I love The OC Mix! It definitely has a hipster, earthy, organic vibe that pervades the whole center. Parking is much more plentiful than at The Camp or The Lab. Parts of the shopping area are indoors and others are open-air. It's a refreshing change from uber-corporate South Coast Plaza, but they're pretty much in the same price range. As a starving grad student, there's not a whole lot I could buy without debt or extreme guilt, but it's fun to window shop. There is a small farmer's market on Saturdays from 9am-2pm and it's definitely worth checking out. Very fresh produce and artisan foods available for purchase. Next time I go, I will definitely have to pick up some of the honey from the honey stand. Overall, a great addition to the retail space of Orange County. read more

ben f & i were in need of some refreshments...ben wanted a smoothie, carolyn wanted iced coffee and i WON! haha we ended up at where Portola was said to be located with the use of Yelp and we were...disappointed...yea you read right....we were lead into an empty plaza that looked closed on a late sunday afternoon. what? we turned the the buildings though and found the doors to OC MART MIX open...although there were hardly any cars outside we parked and ventured in.... oh my goodness!! happiness rose around me and i was squeling with delight...the OC mart mix is freaking amazing! although that day the stores were all closed I got to look inside them all and was amazed...what is this place??? how cute & amazing is it? am I in heaven??? think...airy open market with the cutest stores possible in little stalls. after finding this place I came 4 more times and I can't seem to stay away. they have jewelry, flowers, candy,bikes, sunglasses, portola coffee lab!, let them eat cake, farmers market and food trucks on saturdays and much much more. i really hope it stays this perfect...i really didn't want to share this place but it's my yelp duty to spread the word on amazing places like this! love the courtyard to enjoy some sweets, coffee and a nice conversation and strolling around the beautiful stores. the single downer? single bathrooms...i had to wait forever and girls behind me eventually used the mens stall when they couldn't wait no more... btw make sure the stores are open before you come by.... read more

Love finding a spot to read, study or work on personal things here by myself after a long days work. When I first began coming here, I never knew the exact time mix mart/portola coffee lab closed. I Asked a few people and didn't get an exact answer. They close around 9:30PM. I found out they dimmed the lights down real low to let people see it's time to go & I figured that out when I opened the door out the restroom and saw darkness. It's high end meets conscious consumer California hippie and I love it! There's a kombucha bar, an acai bowl shop, a couple clothing boutiques, a cheese and wine store, a sushi spot, a coffee shop, an art gallery, and more, plus tons of nice seating areas inside and out with wifi everywhere. read more

As I have told many of my friends one this is one of the best places in Orange County! The selection in places to eat is beyond wonderful! They have something for everyone there (even vegans!). And the shopping is great too. The mall is adorable, and parking is always great. Come on Saturdays for their farmers market. read more

I still prefer The Camp or LAB. OCMM tries to take this concept indoors but it just lacks the destination vibe and cool stores of those places. OCMM is more like a small hipster indoor flea market with higher prices. The "store" spaces are more like cubicles and doesnt seem to offer each vendor much identity. Coffee and cheese but no restaurants. Both The Camp and LAB have great places to eat. It's still a cool alternative to the malls but I just thought it fell short of what it could be. This section of the plaza has a great concept, and a beautiful courtyard. The parking is easy too. Love all the little shops run by different people, not corporations, and it gives it so much more character to the place. If Etsy Was a Mall in Orange County I am a huge fan of the unique. I don't fully appreciate mass-produced clothing and goods as much as handmade, vintage and/or made-with-love items. That is why I was so excited when my friend Tammi introduced me to OC Mart Mix-a mall of sorts that houses a variety of independent artists and sellers of handmade and unique goods. As an addicted buyer and seller on Etsy.com myself, this shopping venue is just for me! When Tammi and I visited around Christmas time, we stopped in on many boutique-like shops. Lots of pretty and special jewelry, scarves and dresses. Other fun places include some cute children's clothing shops, antique shops, a cheese shop, an oyster bar and more. The highlight of the trip was the Portola Coffee Lab, a coffee shop that takes their java so seriously that it's almost like science experiment to concoct the perfect brew. The coffee shop is constructed in the round style, and its entire set up is similar to that of a lab. The baristas even wear lab coats! All the coffees have various brewing techniques that go above and beyond the typical insert-coffee-and-hit-start methods we see everywhere. I had the iced mocha, which is made with homemade ganache. It was perfect and delicious. Tammi and I also shared their rendition of a breakfast burrito, which was also yummy, however, Portola Lab's attempt at making the burrito "elevated" took away some of the traditional gluttony we appreciate in a typical breakfast burrito. I like his place a lot and have been coming here since it opened. Everything has only improved here but one thing has gone extremely down hill- your EDM house music playing in the communal area. It's loud and obnoxious at 6:30 in the morning. read more

GOURMET Cheese, Wine, and Olive Oils all in one place...I love it. I love cheese, LOVE IT. I tried giving it up once, and failed horribly but thats ok. We got a slice of the black truffle gouda...so rich and flavorful! All you need is crackers and you're golden (I had water crackers). We also got an oak smoked cheddar, which was really smoky. Then we turned around and got some olive oils which were also really good. I got a white truffle oil and a garlic olive oil. The ladies that helped us were super nice and let us sample everything before we made decisions. They explained everything to us since it was our first time. This is a store for grown-up girls. I mean, all of my very favorite things, all rolled together and then in WINE BAR IN THE MIDDLE! In all honestly, I don't get the premise for the store because it doesn't seem like a place where people will actually buy things, but I still love it. The best way to describe it is a farmer's market for OC's desperate housewives. They have a paper store, candy store, flower market, bridal shop, bakery (ok, this is outside but still), plus add the bright colors and zen garden? It is my new favorite place where I'll dress up and pretend I live the Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous. PS- I came when most of the stores were closed, so I just walked through... it might be a different kind of place when the stores are actually open. read more

Awesome place, a must go! I was guided here by someone out at the farmers market, and I am glad they sent me. They eclectic mix of shops holds a treasure for everyone. The spice shop is modest yet amazing, the olive bar is a hit, and some of the other shops fancy a "green" image. This is definitely a trendy spot holding lounge type seating throughout. There is a great coffee bar as well. I would definitely go here again. I gave a 4 start rating because many of the shops were not open when I was there, so I was unable to experience them all. read more

I absolutely love the vibe that I get from this place. I find it appealing with just the interior design alone - and I know it'll get very popular over time. The small boutiques, food places, and even other smaller shops (soaps, perfumes, etc.) makes this place a very urbanized "hipster" hot spot. Food trucks on Friday night, right next to the 405 freeway. A great little grass area for the kids to play in and a nice fence to keep the kids alive while we chow on good grubs! Don't expect food trucks to make a cheap dinner .... it's fun and delicious! read more

Well it's the closest thing the O.C. has to the Ferry Building on S.F. Lots of various stores ranging from housewares, spice shop, baby clothes, vinyl records, coffee, tea, juices and more. My favorites are Birdie for acai bowls, the cheese shop for great cheese plates and portola coffee lab. Nice place to hang and people watch. Surfas across the parking lot is great for cooking supplies and food too. read more

Cool and unique stores and anti-mall/mall concept...includes neat alternative bike/moto concept shop called Derringer and a happening coffee bar (not Starbucks) that is open til 9. the landscaping is peaceful. i love all the succulents and "dr suess" like bushes. the inside is spacious with a variety of unique shops. we enjoyed checking out all the little shops. had a waffle cone at N'ice cream on a nearby comfy sofa. i know some of my friends who would enjoy coming here. it does remind me a lot of the camp/lab. i wanted to try the portola coffee lab but there was a long line. i'll come back another time hopefully when it's not so crowded.... read more

What an awesome mix of shops! I originally stopped in because I'd read fun things about Portola Coffee Lab but the whole vintage / rustic theme was a surprise and I loved all the handmade jewelry and local designer creations. Wine bar, tea bar, ice cream, cheese shop, not to mention lots of cool clothes, shoes and bags. Variety of stores fit my needs. All businesses have great customer service and friendly, helpful employees.

I went there for the first time last Saturday and was hugely impressed. Once you enter the retail space, you feel as if you've entered a private party where you're welcomed as a guest. Ornate was staffed by a beautiful young lady who was as friendly as she was comely. Alexander Grey sells a stunning collection of sunglasses showcased in a minimalist space, which works well. I reviewed We Olive separately. I had an excellent if rather pricey espresso at Portola Coffee, a place I must explore more extensively on my next trip up. If I didn't live in DP, I'd be there weekly. As it is, I'm planning to head up there next Tuesday for the food truck experience. read more

Farmers Market in parking lot every Sat 9-2 (always a new gourmet food truck to wet your appetite) try Barcelona on the Go or the Garlic one. We Olive is nice for Happy Hour, they serve Tobin James which is one of my favorites. Over all the food and drink places are the best to visit or hang out, but the boutiques are just really over priced. If you want my honest opinion, it's really all about Portola Coffee Lab and 7th Tea Bar! read more
