Called in for a small meat lovers pizza as they are one of my favorites and I have not tried this location yet. Plenty of toppings and a great location with ample seating, either table or bar style. Got there a little early and had a beer while waiting for it to finish. Service was great from start to finish and will be back for more when in the area! read more

I got a chicken barbecue sub I added bacon and cheese they asked if I wanted toasted I said yes the sandwich on the sign said $13 I grabbed the water out of the cooler ring me up $21.53 I asked why is my bill so high I thought it was a $13 sandwich he said because of the toppings I wanted I said okay I got two toppings that shouldn't come near $5 besides that the sandwich was horrible it was regular white chicken they slapped barbecue sauce on it it wasn't cooked in barbecue sauce one slice of cheese which they cut in half and pizza topping bacon bits never going back again!!! read more

Small town pizza and sub shop - went here with friends after a boat ride and returning from the nearby ferry pier. Went here with a group of 5 friends, looking for some good rates lunch food. I'd say it was all about average, not great, just good. They looked like they were gearing up for a big pizza rush later, putting together pizza doughs and pushing them out onto the pizza trays. They didn't sell any pizza by the slice and I had originally thought I might get some pizza, but once we got there just wasn't into the crust, didn't see any tossing etc. One person in our group got a small pizza and it looked like a fairly thick original style crust, she liked hers, cheese and meat toppings. We asked about the gyros - did they have a roasted gyro meat spit? They said no, so we decided against getting the gyros. That left a large selections of grinders/sub, and most of us got a variety of hot sandwich styles, since it was a cold day, I got a hot turkey grinder. Was good, served with some chips. I'd say was a good grinder, not too much meat, nice fresh bun and good toppings. My friends asked why I had picked this spot, and I indicated it was one of the highest rated nearby in yelp when we were looking for lunch, with a variety of items. I'd say this was a solid 3, but overrated for a 4, a bit of inflation in yelp, maybe due to lack of a lot of competition nearby. The staff was friendly, the food was okay, would eat there if nearby but not necessarily drive out of the way, we drove a bit further to get there and probably was not justified, sad, as I was hoping the presence of some Greek food on the menu would give us a shot at some decent Greek food, or yummy pizza, and both those options seemed underwhelming, ended up with my third choice of a grinder. My family has been ordering from Socrates since they opened up in East Greenwich in 1992. There's something about their crust, just the right mix of crunchiness and thickness. They are generous with the toppings and overall just have the right mix. I lived in the northern half of North Kingstown for 10 years, at one point counted more than a dozen pizza joints within delivery distance. I don't know how this place isn't rated more than it is. Their pizza is by far the best pizza in North Kingstown! I have yet to have a negative experience and I've been ordering from them for a while. Staff is quite friendly and their pizza is made in a timely manner. Few cons but nothing to change my rating since they are not a huge deal... They don't deliver and they are closed on Sundays and Mondays. If you're looking to dine in, it's quite small inside, so not ideal for big parties... Again, no biggie, just figured worth mentioning if you've never been. *Edit.. This is one of the only places I know of that has Gyros around the North Kingstown/Coventry areas. I was very excited to see a place like this come to within a reasonable distance of where I work for more lunch options. The owner is a great guy and seems to know a lot about some of his regular customers. He is very talkative and makes sure everyone in the place has what they need. The menue has tons of various options for sammiches, pizzas, and Gyro type dishes. Everything was fairly reasonable in price. Maybe slightly high but if it comes piled in ingredients I could see how they ended up at that price point. I ordered up a standard Gyro and my mouth started watering....it had been so long since I had one. While I was half expecting to see the rotating spit of that mystery meat log I couldn't see it.....not sure if I should panic or not, but I kept calm. Something about seeing the meat shaved off that turning hunk of whatever it is is so satisfying. To my dismay, strips of gyro meat were pulled from a cooler (freezer?). Pre-cut strips were placed on a pan to thaw out and sear up a bit. Very disappointing to see that. I am not sure it really affected the taste in the end but I saw how the sausage was made and it didn't meat (meat, get it?) my expectations. The Gyro was good otherwise, It had a right amount of onions and that cucumber sauce. It was filling and satisfying...despite my other disappointments. read more

I am sad to say that Socrates pizza is poor. I ordered a small extra pepperoni and Greek pizza. First the crust was crunchy but lacked flavor...the Greek appeared to be a "white" sauce cheese pizza with no other ingredients...since it was take out I did not discover this until I got home. The flavor on both was decidedly cardboard like. Diego, Miyako and Isabela were in full agreement with my assessment. The gentleman at Socrates was friendly and attentive but it did not make up for the crap flavor of the pizza. My search for a good local pizza joint continues...it appears that homemade pizza is the clear best option. Diego's dough recipe couple with his spicy sauce and nitrate free pepperoni is a much better option than the local pizza joint offerings. Salud! read more

Ordered and picked up a large cheese and pepperoni pizza. Pizza was very thin and not filling enough for us for dinner, it seemed to be more of an appetizer. It was very greasy as the pepperonis curled up and were filled with fat!! We had to put pieces of a paper towel on each pepperoni to remove the grease. It was-over priced at $16.00. We were very disappointed. We had to find something else to eat for our dinner. We won't be going back! read more

I went into Socrates Pizza to order a meatball sub. The owners wife took my order. She had spilt sauce on the floor and stopped to wipe it up, then proceeded to make my sandwich. I said excuse me but could you wash your hands, which she did. She was going to make my sandwich with her bare hands that she had just cleaned the floor with, no gloves. I went in to Socrates today and was telling the manager about it and he "FLIPPED" out, banging his fist on the counter saying his wife is clean. I said sir I choose not to have my sandwich made by someone who just wiped up the floor. He starts yelling GET OUT. WOW....That is a health issue !!! read more

Thanks to yelp found this very good establishment. Upon entering, friendly greeting by the man who I'm guessing was the owner. Looked around and saw some excellent RedSox decor on the walls, very clean and bright inside, by no means does the dining area look like it hasn't changed since the late 70's like a lotta small pizza houses. None of those weird shaped booths, very comfortable atmosphere with a few big TVs. These guys are sports fans and avid fisherman. When I check out a new place on the road, I usually order small to get a sense of quality, and a good barometer is an Italian grinder. Here is the thing: I think with all the conversation, he forgot my girlfriend asked for no hots on it due to heartburn issues. The sub came out fast, it was dense with quality bread and ingredients. We were just up the road when we discovered the gaffe, called him up and when I returned with the hots grinder, he was already out the front door with our replacement, waved off the return sandwich and was sincere and decent about the simple mistake. The no-hots grinder was excellent, fresh ingredients in a perfect distribution. The same quality you would find in some of the better delis downtown. Next time we try one of those white pizzas they have on the board and maybe a gyro to take to work for lunch. For that reviewer who was miffed by seeing they use frozen lamb patties, 90% of all Gyro place I've been to do the same, fresh lamb doesn't keep long and is big bucks. They would have to charge $12 a gyro, and not likely to sell many at that price. The secret is having good flatbread and taziki (spellcheck please) sauce which they probably do.
