As always, I wait until my second visit before writing a review. I think it is the best way to be fair. One bad experience can simply be an off day, and one amazing meal can be a one time success. A second visit tells you whether a restaurant is truly consistent. I am happy to say that Sofia's delivered both times. The pizza is delicious. It may not be the kind of pizza that changes your life, but it has everything a great pizza should have, a flavorful crust, quality ingredients, and great flavor. That said, do not come just for the pizza. A personal pizza is perfect to share as an appetizer, but the entrées are the real stars of the menu. I ordered the trout, and it was one of the freshest fish dishes I have had in a long time. It was cooked perfectly, full of flavor, and served in a generous portion. The vegetables were fresh and cooked just right, and the pasta that accompanied the dish tasted like something you would expect from a good Italian restaurant. My wife ordered one of the lunch specials for less than $14, and it was equally impressive, original, delicious, and generously portioned. Bread is delicious. Basil soup is tasty. Sweet wine was good and my baked ziti w was tasty. My husband's plate was bit cold on the inside of the large shell. I love this place! I love everything about it! The place is cute inside and located in the neighborhood positioned to cater to locals. The service is top notch. The owner is at every table and visiting with the many regulars. Now for the food... Delicioso! They serve homemade focaccia bread with olive oil as a free starter. No mater what you order it's the best version of that dish you'll ever eat. This time we had soup for appetizer and we shared the 4 meatball plate each covered with a different delicious sauce. The pesto cream sauce was my favorite and the meatballs were so tender I think my eyes rolled back in my head a little. My entree was spicy shrimp and it was very very good. I brought home another whole meal's worth of leftovers. Oh! And, I must mention their wine collection because they'll help you find the best one for your dinner. Y'all it's such a great place! Last year I gave this place 5 stars...not this year. Dipping sauce for bread had no flavor, calamari appetizer had little flavor and they were a little tough, carbonara had little bacon so it was a flop too. The Ceasar salad was still terrific and they have the best anchovies anywhere. The house merlot was tasty. The service was very good and the place was not busy and the ambiance was so so. Sofia's Italiano is a quaint and fancy restaurant. The interior definitely gives you an Italian family vibe. Their prices on the menu are surprisingly decent. Sofia's Italiano has a vast selection of wine and there's a cocktail bar too. Once you're seated, you're served fresh bread with a spicy herb sauce on the side. Sofia's Italian cuisine was superb. Especially some of their signature dishes, like the Jalapeno Chicken Linguini. There's AC, yet they have extra fans for some reason? The staff are wonderful, always checking on us and refilling our drinks. There's plenty of space for large parties. Sofia's Italiano even has a an area for private parties. I've noticed that in past reviews Sofia's Italiano has had a gnat problem. When I was there. there WAS at least one gnat around my table. Maybe the staff are finally dealing with the infestation? I hope so. There was also some inconsistences with mine and my companion's orders. The chicken in the Creamy Chicken Sofia was dry and the soup my friend ordered, Zuppa di Fagioli had little broth. read more

I found out sometime recently that Gina's and Sofia's were the same restaurant in every way, except the name. Thus, being awesome like before. I came here tonight and ordered the Lasagna, my favorite dish here. It comes with a complimentary soup or salad as well as bread n oil. I always got the house salad with Italian dressing on the side whenever dining at this cafe. Everything was so delicious, fresh, good quality and made with care. One of the best lasagnas in TX has to be here as I said in the past. Every single thing I had tasted the exact same tonight as in 2022 when it was called Gina's. The pasta layers were soft. The rich, savory cheese, cream sauce typically used for lasagna, red sauce and meat were all very flavorful and moist. The aromas in this entree were so balanced like a real lasagna and not just some of the fake Americanized ones you get in some other restaurants. The Italian dressing is creamy here as opposed to vinaigrette. I like both kinds and I would certainly recommend this one like the main course for newcomers. My server was very welcoming, friendly and efficient. I even remember the stuffed shells, ravioli, meatballs and blackout cake being great stuff here too. read more

Would be 5 stars, but despite empty restaurant when we got there, they sat us near the back, there's a bit of strange odor back there. Our party of 7 came for lunch after church. We were seated right away. Some ordered off the lunch menu and some off the dinner menu. I ordered cheese ravioli which was so good. Ginas for BRUNCH now too! I'm so excited. As if Gina's wasn't hitting it out of the park already with their over the top lunch and dinner options now they are doing BRUNCH too??? My husband loves everything on the menu but because I don't eat a lot of beef/chicken or pork I love that they will bring me pretty much anything on the menu without the meat so it is kind of a vegetarians dream place in addition to being a place for my Barbarian of a husband. Don't even get me started on that delicious bread they make in house or the fact that they will let me add those sun-dried tomatoes to anything. Even my grandkids love that place and the wine...OH THE WINE. If you haven't been to one of their wine tasing events you have to add it to your "Fun Things To Do" list for a night out but be prepared to want to buy a bottle of everything you try because the selections are all a 10 out of 10. read more

Gina's restaurant has always been a place we raved about when it came to their Gina Chicken soup except for today. The soup was not a good tasting serve. It was tangy and very bland. The soup is no longer a soup it's more of a chowder. Even the server tasted it and insisted in taking it back to the chef who agreed and made a fresh batch. Yes they comp it and gave a to go bowl. The chicken was chunky and dried probably because the chicken was too big and chunky. The same with the vegetables. Some memories are best left as a memory. We went as a party of two without a reservation on a Saturday evening. This place is great. Sofia's Soup is a worthy meal by itself - if I had known how good it was, I would have just ordered that. The Antipasto salad was loaded with meat and the lobster ravioli plate was plenty for two. The service was on point. As Gina's this was a convenient so, so Italian restaurant to meet friends or family for lunch or dinner. Since it has become Sofia's, the recipes seem to have been revised. Much better! Just had chicken piccata. Compared to what it was when Gina's, chicken was moist and delicious. Before was sort of dry. Tasty creamy sauce covered chicken and pasta. There is still the same wonderful bread and dipping oil. Salad was so, so. Still mostly iceberg lettuce. Looking forward to trying more made over entrees!! read more

We ended up at Gina's the other night after the restaurant we planned to visit was closed. What a great bit of karma. We've been here before, and the place is always spottless. The servers were very efficient and attentive. The atmosphere here is very cool. There were people out for date night, families with small kids, a couple large parties, and it was still very comfortable and inviting. My dad was with us, and he has a gluten allergy. I thought we might have a hard time finding something for him in an Italian restaurant, but surprisingly, they had several options. All of their soups are gluten-free and DELICIOUS! They also have gluten-free pasta that actually tastes good. The manager was very helpful and friendly while Dad was trying to decide what to get. And for those of us who can have gluten, their bread is AMAZING! Not like what you'll find in other Italian restaurants around here but super tasty. I had chicken Parm and my wife had the spicy shrimp. Both were excellent. If you want fresh, tasty Italian, Gina's is your place. read more

The food was subpar, the salad was not brown but close, and straight from a bag. Didn't care for the bread at all. The lasagna was okay not great. But to top off the entire meal, my husband had to kill a roach that was crawling up the wall and it was a baby and that usually means that there is a thousand more.
