If you're looking for a taste of a New York delicatessen in the state of Ohio, look no further because "Big Apple Deli" will definitely have you covered. Located just outside of Toledo in the neighboring community of Oregon, this place has been dishing out delicious New York-styled sandwiches dating back to 2011. The location itself is located directly off of Woodville Rd. and just north of Oakdale Ave. As of 2023, they are opened for business Tuesday through Saturday from 8am-7pm while being closed on Sunday and Monday. I ended up coming here during the afternoon of Wednesday 9/13/2023 at around 3:30pm as I had not yet eaten lunch and needed something to fuel me the rest of the afternoon. The exterior offers ample parking throughout while the large sign is easily identifiable from the street. The main entrance also has the business name in very large letters which gives their business that 'wow' factor even before entering. As far as the interior layout, it is well laid-out and spacious with seating for about 25 guests. And since this place is named after New York City, they have a ton of memorabilia on everything associate with the Big Apple. This includes representing the NY Mets, NY Yankees, & NY Giants sports teams, a picture of the Brooklyn Bridge, a Subway stop at Times Square, signs of many New York streets, and much more. All of their menu items are even named after landmarks and sports teams in New York City; "Broadway", "Central Park", "Rangers", etc. I ended up going with a small specialty sub (for $5.99) of their "Madison Square" combo. This included ham, pastrami, salami, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, peppers, Italian dressing, mustard, and creamy mayonnaise on a soft New York-styled roll. I also opted for a bag of chips which were Ohio's own "Ballreich's" sour cream & onion flavored and a 20 oz. size of Royal Crown cola. Total price was a very reasonable $10 for everything. I also wanted to point out that in addition to their yummy sandwiches, they also have a huge variety of soups, salads, potato salads, snack trays, and even a ton of desserts. Once my sandwich was ready, I took a bite into pure heaven. The bread was one of the freshest and softest rolls I've even bit into. They also did not skimp on the meat while this place can easily rival any New York deli. The service here was also top notch as the staff here go above and beyond for their customers. When you factor in the service, food quality, location, experience and affordable prices, "Big Apple Deli" is easily a 5-star Yelp experience. read more

Staff was good with answering questions for these first timers and let us know what was offered and some specials that they had the day we visited. We tried the following Food: Chicken Noodle Soup Non-.spicy chili Jalapeño potato salad Macaroni salad Club Sandwich Roast Beef Sandwich BBQ chips Regular chips Iced tea All of the above food was delicious and would order everything again! Ok, I may be jumping on the "five star bandwagon" here, but this place definitely deserves all five stars! Awesome fresh and flavorful offerings: Of course, the Reuben kicks ass. But also, the subs (I've had the Fire Island and the Manhattan) are top notch. Everything, including the veggies, mayo and bread, is super fresh and tasty. The meat is sliced to order, right in front of you. The chili, the various salads, and pretty much everything else at the Big Apple Deli, should not go unsampled. I saw some complaints about price, but I didn't think the place was that expensive, especially when you take into account the quality of the food...the Fire Island sub was $7.49 (a buck more than the other subs), and it filled me up nicely. It's the day after christmas, and we're driving around looking for a place to eat. We head towards the east side of toledo (why not?!) and decide on Big Apple Deli. Sadly, it was closed. We sat in the parking lot crying for a moment, questioning the meaning of life. After we pulled ourselves together, we drove around the east side and ended up at Ralphie's. Bad move. Terrible food. But I digress. The reason we headed over to Big Apple in the first place is because of their fantastic sandwiches and chili. The atmosphere makes you feel like a kid in the 80's. The walls are covered in certificates of community service, catering flyers and other toledo relics. The sandwiches are all made fresh, and they offer an odd assortment of party trays and pre-made salads. The kind of stuff that would make your grandmother proud. The portions are big, the prices are reasonable, and from what i've heard... the employees are all co-owners which makes sense. They all seem to take great pride in their service. While we are very disappointed we ended up at Ralphie's, we're more-so disappointed that we weren't able to make it to Big Apple Deli on our day off. It's a christmas tragedy. read more

Amazing is the first thing I want to say about this place! We were out garage saleing this afternoon and wanted to find a good local spot. So of course, I jumped on Yelp for some advice. This place had nothing but rave reviews and we quickly found out why. It's a small, quaint place to grab a delicious meal. I had the special, half a French Dip sandwich, macaroni salad and a soda for less than $8. The hubby had the Philly Cheese Steak. Both of us LOVED our choices. The hubs was BLOWN AWAY with how much meat was on his sandwich. Delicious! The next thing I have to rave about are the employees and owner. They are absolutely, hands down the friendliest restaurant peeps I have EVER met! Tim, the owner was so personable. It felt like we had known him for years by the way he talked to us and treated us. He even asked us how many dogs we have and gave us some goodies for them! Whenever people were leaving, you would hear the employees saying good bye and thanks for coming in (they were across the dining room from the door!) When we left, I noticed they had a drive up window. I couldn't resist.... since this is a NEWS YORK STYLE DELI, I decided I HAD to get a piece of CHEESECAKE! I had some kind of oreo pie thing with my GIANT Roast Beef & Cheese sandwich last week and it was 100% worth killing the "diet" for the day. We were only here for a short weekend on our most recent visit (to attend a wedding) but this was the best food we had during our time here, by a pretty wide margin. Fresh, delicious sandwiches that are a great size and still cheaper than what we're accustomed to back home. Extremely friendly and patient employees. The service was above par--super friendly, jovial, and welcoming at all times. The interesting thing was that we were there about 25 minutes before closing. Usually at that time, the staff is closing down and doesn't really want any more customers--but not here. I had high hopes for this place. It is a cute little place. I love that they cut the meats fresh in house and have home made items in the deli display. I ordered the Ruben and was highly disappointed. It was over dressed and the corn beef itself was so fatty that I was unable to eat over half of the meat in the sandwich. I was so upset because I really wanted a good ruben.
