I had a very disappointing experience here. All of our food was served cold, which is unacceptable for dishes like Turkish kebabs that should be hot and freshly prepared. The entire order came out in about 10 minutes, which made it seem like everything was pre-cooked and just reheated. The French fries were clearly undercooked and tasted raw. The ayran was also extremely diluted more like salted water than a proper yogurt drink. We brought these issues to the staff and asked to speak with a manager, but no one came. We went here for Valentine's Day for dinner. The entrance was weird and the seating was odd. Its very small and the tables are close together. When I approached the hostess stand which is at the entrance of the kitchen and bathroom. You have to walk through the restaurant and figure out where/who the hostess is to get seated. We changed seatings a couple of times. It took some time for them to get our order. When the host came over he asked are you ready to order. We were trying to ask questions because it was not mentioned they were on a grand prixe fix menu. We ordered, the appetizers came right out but the drinks were received half way through us finishing our meal. They didn't check on us, we had to ask for someone to clear our table. I went in with a friend and we had a great time. There is a patio and indoor seating, while it was a sunny day, we opted to eat indoors since still a bit chilly. I would recommend making a reservation since there are a limited number of tables. Our server was great and was quick to take our order. The food menu has so many good items, but we settled on some apps to share. Everything was so delicious. The shrimp came out sizzling and hot. We also ordered a side of rice for the shrimp which was perfect. The falafel came with hummus on the bottom, so if you aren't looking for a ton of hummus, this would probably satiate your appetite. Let me first say, this is a gem of a restaurant and perhaps a new favorite of mine and I am so grateful it's near my home. From the moment my friend and I walked into Sofra, we felt it was a warm welcoming atmosphere. It was cozy and felt like you were part of the family. My friend and I went at an off time for a late Sunday lunch which was a lovely time as it was not too busy. Our experience matched what their website so beautifully stated about the restaurant. It was an incredible experience for mind, body, soul and taste buds! We enjoyed EVERYTHING we ordered. It was marvelous. The menu is designed in such a way, it can be enjoyed as family style. When we looked over the menu, everything sounded incredible. The pictures were very alluring and had us wanting to try everything. We decided on the Shrimp and Garlic, Chicken Shish and Manti. The flavors were just incredible-- a marvelous balance as well. We loved each dish. The bread and Turkish tea were wonderful too. I wish I could have the signature beyti every day for dinner. I don't eat a ton of meat but this was outstanding! I was at dinner with a friend and despite some kind of disturbance outside, the wait staff never faltered and our water was always full. The food was good, but the cocktails were too sweet and the service was Dreadful. There were two other tables so no reason for it. I was willing to overlook it to a degree, but the ultimate insult was seeing an automatic 20% tip for barely existent service. Gaslighting criminals who intentionally withhold Norton and cause harm and will burn in hell. First there is no greeter at a restaurant, you have to walk in to the bar to ask to be seated. Second, I asked for hot water. Initially I was given tea, which was removed while I had nothing. And then the water was scalding hot, so hot that even after at a cold water, I burn my tongue, which persists after I have left the restaurant and will likely take a while to heal. I had to beg for bread. After half an hour, I still had no food and had to ask for that as well. I had asked for no oil on my food, and added to the server later that I also wanted no oil on the vegetables. When I was served early vegetables, the server only argued with me about what I had said, even though she had not understood or bother to clarify what I was telling her. Toward the end of my meal I was given roasted vegetables without potatoes or the assortment that have been in the only vegetables, hence less nourishment and fiber and complex carbohydrates. They claim not to know how many ounces were in the fish they were serving. I also explicitly said that I could not eat salty or spicy or acidic food. When they brought the vegetables without oil, they brought tomato and onion, which I cannot eat; I can only eat the zucchini. They gave me three to go containers, as if I would take home food that I cannot eat. Temperature of the restaurant repeatedly fluctuated throughout the meal, not because of many people coming in and out, there was very little business., Which is what they deserve. Do not be deceived by the website which falsely claims that they have salad and would be a good place to go. Aside from repeatedly bringing scalding hot water,At no point did the server ask how I was doing or if I needed anything. I had to beg for everything. No one seemed to care that I had to rely on my own supply of cold water to dilute the water that was too hot, my own celery and apple for dietary fiber and balance. When I pointed it out to the server, she said only that she "didn't have time for this" and angrily stormed off and was even more rude. What kind of fake Greek Turkish restaurant does not have salad or honey?! This is a b******t gaslighting fake establishment that only intends to cause harm and deny nourishment. read more

Can we address the cat in the room, or restaurant? It smells like badly masked cat pee in the restaurant, which was slightly overwhelming to eat in. If your nose is not as smell critical as mine, then onto the food we go, which was very, very mediocre. The dips are under seasoned, the bread, which is supposed to be pita, is super thick and has the texture resembling a rock. The wine and beer is incredibly overpriced and the selection is not great. Also, a 20% gratuity is added to all bills. Overall, this is a one and done location for me . Such a cozy place to eat after going to the Smithsonian zoo! First off the service at this restaurant was top tier. The server was so attentive the moment I stepped into the restaurant-- constantly checking on me to make sure I'm enjoying my meal and had everything I needed. Sofra is such a gem in this neighborhood! I cannot recommend this place enough. The quiet comfortable interior allows for a relaxed and enjoyable meal. The food was divine and the owner Keenan made us feel so taken care of. We came for Father's Day (party of 9) and let Keenan take us into his hands. He brought out all of his speciality home recipes-- Moutabal, Kozleme, Manti-- and then grilled meats. Everything was perfectly cooked, flavorful, fresh, and delicious. He cooks on a charcoal grill so you really won't get the same flavor anywhere else. Keenan repeatedly walked over to ask how we liked the food. He portioned the appetizers out so that there was enough for everyone to try it all. Keenan couldn't have been more thoughtful or friendly as a server. After the meal we had Turkish coffee and Baklava on the outside patio, and on the way out he was kind enough to compliment our family and shake everyone's hand. Thankfully she doesn't have celiac but after the meal came out and we started eating I became concerned because it looked like the rice had gluten-us noodles in it. our original server never came back and I had to flag someone else to ask the question, after the server I asked came back all they said was "Im not sure but there are noodles that are pre mixed into the rice at the start of the day". then later as I ask for the check magically the original server comes back and says sorry they can make a new dish without the gluten that they originally said they were going to bring out. the worst establishment ive ever take her too. never bring a per who is gluten free here. read more

The name and description were perfect- we love Turkish food. We even made a reservation. No need. The place was empty on a Friday night. It was like a cafeteria trying to upscale. Terrible food. Terrible service. Table cloths on half the tables. The kitchen is exposed and in this case should be hidden. I couldn't finish my dinner. Then the bill came to nearly $200 , what? Quite possibly the best food on the Woodley Park-Cleveland Park corridor. If there is another restaurant better, please inform me. Tragically poorly lit and signed from the exterior, many a driver and pedestrian has likely passed by Sofra without knowing it is open, or even exists. I among them until this restaurant's (well deserved) five star rating lured me inside. (Even then, I had trouble finding it.) This is a tragedy. The food is scrumptious, well beyond what you'd expect from a $20-$30 price range. The tea is also fantastic. The first time we showed up ae got the Sofra experience, which was just outstanding. Among the best meals I've gotten for that price in DC. We ordered two appetizers, and two entres, splitting both. The appetizers were both eggplant based dipsand came with recently baked loaves of bread. One was merely good, the other gobsmackingly good. One entree was beef, and the other a chicken dish. Both taste and presentation were that of much more expensive food. While the taste and presentation is bougie beyond belief, the aesthetics of the place were more hole-in-the-wall. Like it's not bad, but you get the sense that perhaps the owner is far more keen on good food and plating than creating an accompanying atmosphere. Like the restaurant was only halfway done before he got impatient and started cooking up a storm. Thus the lack of signage. This is too bad, because as a good food enjoyer this place MUST survive. Which is why I'm writing this review. All you Northwest DC residents better get in there and start enjoying brilliantly spiced eggplant dips and exquisitely cooked meat too, because if you don't then I can't. And you guys can't take this away from me. If this place closes its doors it'll because you never knew, but I did. And I'll be so, so sad. I went to Sofra with two friends. We arrived around 6PM when there were few other patrons and ordered humus, two salads and fish. It took nearly an hour for the humus appetizer to arrive and well over an hour for the two salads and fish to arrive. When the salads did arrive, they did not include the ingredients advertised on the menu. The server was dismissive of our questions about the salad ingredients and the extreme wait for the food to arrive. We asked at least three times for the check so we could leave early because of the very long wait, requests that were ignored. The service was far from friendly and it was insulting that an automatic 20% tip was added to the check. The server did remove the humus from the check, but he neglected to bring an extra order of pita bread that he had promised. We'll not be returning to this restaurant. read more
