The restaurant feels like a cozy small space. It was relatively easy to score a reservation a few days before. Very walkable from NOMA metro, or park at the La cosecha garage. The menu had three sections and we decided not to go for any of the mains, being more drawn to the intermediates, ordering all 4 off that section and the Bulgarian banitsa off the small dishes. Creative dishes but not wowed by the execution. My husband and I enjoyed the ribeye tataki the most- guacamole was yummy but my husband didn't think the ribeye had much flavor. The mole is our second liked dish. I was more disappointed by the squash quesadilla- I like my butternut sweet but they smoked it, making a more savory flavor, which is not my preference. The Bulgarian banitsa was very light and small, and the texture was too much phyllo for me and not enough of the filling. We ordered pumpkin cheesecake for dessert, rich enough for two to share. 6 dishes was plenty for the two of us. Some people next to us seemed to order mains and a couple of smaller dishes. The restaurant has two levels, and the second level looks into a Pilates studio (which also doubles as a private dining room). There was a Pilates class going on when we arrived at 5:30, but we were seated on the first level. The service was very attentive and came by our table often, but our dishes were paced a bit slow, we were there for 2 hours. There are two gender neutral restrooms and the one I used had a black toilet- an ick for me, can't see whether they're clean!!

We discovered Eunoia while enjoying the sights and sounds of Union Market. It was like a well-placed oasis away from the chaos of the hustle and bustle around the area. We were greeted, seated, and received amazing service from start to finish. Jonnathan and team took care of us and made the night really special! The food and drinks were all phenomenal!

Eunoia blends Mexican, Bulgarian, and Japanese influences--with a subtle Mid-Atlantic touch--into a menu that's inventive, balanced, and full of character. Each dish feels intentional, with flavors that play beautifully together and should evolve with the seasons. The beverage program holds its own--the wine list is well-curated, and the cocktails are crafted with precision and personality. Service is warm, attentive, and clearly proud of what's coming out of the kitchen. Huge kudos to the chef and team for creating such a creative, dynamic, and genuinely enjoyable dining experience. Already looking forward to the next visit.

Friendly staff, good service and nice cocktails. Decent happy hour deals. Liked their short rib rigatoni and sea bass from the dinner menu.

Solid place to get dinner. The ambiance is great and the staff was very nice. The cocktails are delicious but the portions are small just a heads up. The French fries are the perfect snack.

The team's hospitality was so accommodating. They were kind enough to let us dine even though it was the end of the evening. They made sure to come by to answer all questions, they were kind, patient and didn't seem to rush us. Each course came out in waves, and the team cleared the table completely, brought new silverware in between courses. The food was so flavorful and light. The mushroom soup was reminiscent of a miso soup. The grilled bass was also delicious, the only thing it was difficult to eat around the bones. However, the experience was so great I'd definitely come back!

Second night open, love it. Would definitely return if we weren't about to move away. But you can! If you feel like restaurant food is all tasting about the same, try some interesting flavor combinations in a beautiful welcoming space! Our server (I'm sorry I do not recall her name) noticed details without being at all intrusive and gave just the right amount of information about the dishes.

A Union Market standout, Eunoia is already one of DC's best. Eunoia is the kind of restaurant that makes you stop mid-bite, look at your dining partner, and just nod because words feel inadequate. Chef Josa Maldonado, trained at The French Laundry (3 Michelin stars), Pujol (2 stars) and Jatak (1 star), is crafting something truly special here. His fusion of Mexican, Bulgarian and Japanese influences with nods to the Mid-Atlantic is not just clever, it is soulful, bold and deeply thought-out. Each dish feels like a conversation between cultures, elevated by seasonal ingredients and an evolving menu that always promises something new. From the very first amuse bouche to the unexpected gifts from the kitchen throughout the night, it is clear this team loves hospitality and understands the magic of surprise and delight. The beverage program is just as impressive. Beverage Manager Alexa has curated an incredible wine list that perfectly matches the menu's creativity and nuance. Bartenders Chris, Enzo and Jose built an incredible cocktail menu with precision and personality, delivering drinks that are as beautifully balanced as they are inventive. Service is warm, attentive and genuinely excited about the food they are presenting, which makes the experience feel even more special. Union Market has no shortage of great dining spots, but Eunoia is operating on another level. If you love culinary storytelling, impeccable execution and a dining experience that feels both world-class and personal, this is a must-visit. Highly recommended, and already a contender for one of DC's most exciting new restaurants.

I'm Bulgarian and when I heard there was a Bulgarian - Mexican - Japanese fusion place opening right down the street from me, I had to check it out. Growing up I had never seen a Bulgarian restaurant in the US, so this was worth it even for the novelty. We had the banitsa pastry, grilled black bass fish, and pork shoulder. The banitsa is a ubiquitous Bulgarian street food, and the flavors were just right, though the presentation was unlike anything I've seen, extremely thin and with an exaggerated filo dough crown. I thought it was an interesting attempt to turn it into haute cuisine, but I'd prefer my mom's for next time. The grilled bass was tasty, with a slightly chewy skin and stuffed with vegetables and perhaps some minced fish inside. The tarator spread was again an interesting take on the classic cold soup, but it didn't exactly bring me back to having a fish on the Black Sea coast. Also, what do I do with the tortillas? The pork shoulder on the other hand was extremely tender and juicy. Overall the ambience was very pleasant and I loved the jazz music and urban views out the windows. The service was also very friendly and prompt, and they're just getting going after their first week opening. I would come back again, especially to try the vegetable dishes. I wouldn't say any of the flavors brought me back to childhood trips to Bulgaria, but I appreciate what the chef is trying to do with the cuisine. I'm only a bit concerned they may not appreciate the Bulgarian flavor profiles the owners are insisting on while clearly very comfortable with the Mexican ones. In fact there is a lot in common, with both cultures centering on fresh vegetables, and especially roasted peppers, in meals. I'm curious what they'll do in the next season, when I hope to be back again.

I'm convinced Eunoia will be one of DC's most exceptional spots, and Chef Josa deserves serious attention for the caliber of this rotating menu: which showcases both his creativity and skill. The space is trendy and chic, without compromising on feeling intimate and warm. The menu is honestly artful and much more nuanced than often found at such an accessible price point. Both when I came by for a solo meal and when I hosted a large group event upstairs in the loft, I was completely struck by the quality of the ingredients and curation of the dishes. Guests remarked that even the salad left them speechless, and the eggplant dish was easily among the most distinctive and satisfying dishes I've ever had. For the large group event, Cynia and the rest of the team did an incredible job of working with me to curate the event and incorporate special touches: adding beautiful touches like fresh flowers, candle lighting, and a specialty menu. Even at the discounted prices, the small plates were generously portioned and included gluten free and vegan options for our group. Having heard Chef Josa's story of integrating influences from different countries, and having experienced both the food and the setting, several of us agreed this restaurant is worthy of serious recognition. We were grateful to be among the early customers, and we look forward to hosting again for a special occasion in the unique event space!

Our water glasses were rarely empty. Service was kind. Food wise if I were to stack rank I would say the hummus is the best of what we ordered. The pita bread is thick and garlicky and oily and massive. The croquettes would be at the bottom of my list simply because they're dissimilar from any I've had before and a little bit underwhelming. The tuna was fresh but it's a small dish and not much to write home about. The lamb skewers have a subtle kick to them and they're pretty substantial. I'll definitely be back to try more! The serving size of the dishes I ordered were medium to small. The service was far less satisfactory than food. I tried the following dishes: 1. Complimentary pita: ~40g per piece. Not salty and paired well with the other dishes. Definitely get some! 2. Lahmacun: The lamb+beef mixture was tasty. It came with 4 pieces. 3. Branzino: ~6oz. The fish was grilled to perfection; juciy tender, and the skin was nicely charred. It was served with freh parsley and seasoned grilled tomato (salt+oregano I think). 4. Imam Bayildi: Half of an eggplant topped with sauteed onions and tomatoes. While itself was pretty normal, it went so well with the Ottoman rice. 5. Ottoman Rice: The true highlight of all the dishes I tried! It was basically Basimati rice cooked with dried apricots, raisins, almonds & pine nuts mix, and seasoned with black currant. Overall it was warm, earthy and lightly smoky. The apricot slices added some delightful sweetness and juiciness to the dish. Should pair well with Labneh, chicken and seafood. But to be honest, I can simply eat this stuff along for a whole meal! 6. Tabbouleh: They went against the traditional recipe by substituting the bulgur with quinoa and added some pomegranate arils. I liked the special texture of quinoa. The sweetness of pomegrante arils also enriched the flavors. However, I had to constantly spit the seeds when enjoying the salad. 7. Kofte: Adana style ground beef patties. Just like what I make at home haha! I ordered it as an add-on to my salad at lunchtime. It came with only 2 pieces which weighed no more than 3oz in total... Despite the delicious food, service was disappointing. The first time, the dinner, was Okay. While my food came out slowly, at least my server was aware of it and asked me how I liked the dishes. The second time, the lunch, was horrible. Even before I was seated, my server made me feel that he was reluctant to serve me, and emphasized that I had to order asap. "Luckily", I had already decided what to order. After I got my dishes, no one in the restaurant asked me if the food was Okay. And at the check, my bill was thrown onto my table. In comparison, the two ladies dining next to me came even after I started eating, but were greeted warmly and were given lots of time to decide what to order; not to mention that the staff gave them lots of suggestions, asked about their dining experience, and even chatted with them about sightseeing in DC, etc. Such discrimitory treatment is really unacceptable.

I will first say that the interior of the place is certainly beautiful, and the staff seems to be fairly nice as well. Bit formal. But, in terms of the food, I just wasn't that impressed. The lahmacun just lacked flavor. There was very little spice; in fact, for whatever reason, it almost tasted a bit sweet. The ayran was also a letdown. Usually, I love ayran, but this one just tasted like milk. At least it was served in a cool metal container. They served some complimentary bread too, which was nice, but even that seemed a bit industrial. For dessert, I got to try the baklava with ice cream. Was warmly greeted, seated, and given an overview of the menu and brunch package options; decided to opt-out of the bottomless drinks, which had an alcoholic (mimosas and Bloody Marys) and NA (juices, sodas, drip coffee and black tea), as I wanted to try their more speciality coffee and tea. The drinks I ordered were the Turkish coffee, Levantine-style tea and digestive tea. All were quite solid. The Turkish coffee was as robust as espresso, yet not overwhelmingly bitter and slightly sweetened. The Levantine tea was a smooth black tea with natural sweetness and layered with a mint steep and floral notes of hibiscus, and rose petal. The digestive was more herbaceous with fennel and pomegranate zest, in addition to a steep of spearmint. The food was more hit-or-miss. On one hand, the meat and seafood was all very delicious and well-made. The braised lamb shank is their speciality, and well-deserved, as it's moist, savory and tender. The short rib similarly so, and the chicken casserole, lamb biajeen, Adana kebab and steamed lavraki (sea bass) were all similarly flavorful. On the other hand, the sides and mezze options were more mixed; the dolmas and fresh bites cheese with za'atar/nuts were delightful, however, the borek, cheeses, and some of the dips tasted reheated and/or not super fresh, the Brussels sprouts were quite scorched, and the savory salmon waffles were bone dry and flavorless. The French onion soup had the right flavor profile, but not the intensity; it tasted watered-down and even looked it, due to the noticeable oil blebs on the surface. Dessert was similar; the melon and fruits were fresh enough, the yogurt bar was quality, the kadayif nutty with the sweetness balanced, and the layali lubnan was intoxicatingly tasty, but many of the baked goods looked rather packaged and the fondue station was mediocre. The staff, however, were extremely friendly (my special regards to Mia, she's a great conversationalist and a sweetheart!). They answered all my questions, and one of the bartenders even gave me half a lemon to zuzh up my tea with. As I said at the start, more 3.5 stars than 3 stars. The core of their offerings are all quality, so I can't quite dock them a full two stars for the food quality because they had buffets aren't usually renown for said quality. You really can't expect perfection from AYCE, even though I naturally encourage the management to avoid sourcing pre-made items from Sysco if possible. The friendly staff and eloquent Eastern Mediterranean ambiance allows me to still say I enjoyed this experience, and may be back for dinner in the future.

It's one of those places where it just feels good to be out for the evening. As to the food: the vegetable dishes are outstanding. I am not big on dips, usually, but I was won over by the mutabal, made with squash tahini, mushrooms, and shallots. It is served with a delicious sesame crusted bread, that could be addictive if you are not careful. The star of the evening was the crispy brussels, with black garlic caesar and hot honey. My word! This was like no other brussels I've ever tasted. Even the steamed spinach, tucked away on the menu in the "sides" section, was really tasty. The proteins, by contrast, were disappointing. The calamari was ok but nothing special. It came breaded rather than lightly battered - not my preference. The torsh shish - tenderloin shishkebab - was under-seasoned and a bit fatty. I was surprised it didn't have more of a grilled, smoky flavor. But the real disappointment was what was supposed to be the star of the show: the short rib tagine, with apricot, bulgur wheat, and labne. With that description, I was expecting the meat to arrive on a bed of the other delicious ingredients, but instead we got a brick-shaped piece of meat with a dab of something else. It was tender enough, and tasted ok, but really...just ok. For the price I was expecting something a little more special. The desert aficionados among us had praise for the chocolate pot, but the Persian Love Cake did not get a lot of love. For the drinks: for a Turkish/Greek restaurant I was surprised that wines from those countries were not available by the glass. Alas, there was no Greek wine to be had, and the Turkish wine could be had only if you were prepared to cough up $90 for a bottle. As I was the only wine drinker in the group, that was not going to happen. Next time I might go for a mocktail. The fermented carrot juice was funky and mystical and perhaps the best thing we had all night, beating out even those brussels sprouts.
