Literally a hidden gem of a find in downtown Greenville... We only found this place by visiting the Greenville Drive team store on a Saturday afternoon. Decided to check it out for dinner on a Friday night and was shocked it was so empty. It's only a matter of time before this place fills up! I'm assuming baseball season will have this spot packed. This is the second location (original is on woodruff rd). If you look up the other location- they have fabulous reviews and rightfully so. They have daily specials, lunch specials and happy hour! A DJ on Saturday afternoons as well as brunch. We sat at the bar and Vanessa took great care of us. She gave us great recommendations. I love that they make their own drink mixes! It makes all the difference in quality. We tried a mango mojito and Pisco passion. Both were yummy! Pisco passion is strong fyi. The mood for something filling/delicious was fulfilled and then some! We both got mofongos which come with your choice of plantains: sweet, green or trifongo. We only tried the trifongo with roasted pork (which was amazing) but our favorite was the shrimp al ajillo (garlic shrimp). For the record- last time I had mofongo this good & flavorful I was in Puerto Rico. Safe to say we LOVED everything about both dishes. Still thinking about the garlic sauce with the shrimp! Chefs kiss! And the crispy pork belly pieces on top of the plantains that just melt in your mouth! The Ribeye steak board was recommended by a local (also dining at the the bar). He RAVED about the steak and the sides it comes with. Apparently only this location has a magical creamed corn dish as one of the sides for the all steak boards. Will be back to see how magical it really is! Ambiance is hip & fun with a splash of casual elegance. Great for a family dinner, date night, girls night- whatever. The only downside to planning your visit here is the parking. No private lot & street parking is scarce. I believe there's a garage across the street? The food, drinks & service will make the parking situation worth it. Planning on coming back to try their brunch. Cannot wait! read more

Tasty, inviting, good service: this place had it all! I got a Chicken Rice Bowl, and I definitely recommend. We did get chips and cheese to start off with, but I wasn't too crazy about that- I recommend getting just the salsa instead. I will be back to try more of their entrees! read more

What an incredible little place that is our new favorite: Full of passion and purpose! We walked in at lunchtime on Tuesday, and we had the place almost to ourselves, due to the storm (but it got busier after a bit). We wanted to celebrate a big birthday for my guy. (Whyyyy will Yelp only let me post 10 pics? Ugh I will post the rest separate from my review I guess... Sad) At first, we thought it was Puerto Rican food, but as we researched, we saw the owners are Dominican-- which has very similar food. The menu is amazing, and has all the traditional options, from all types of mofongo, empanadas, yuca frita, seafood, etc etc. As well as some fusion Latin food, and many creative cocktails and desserts. It was so hard to decide, so we went all out, and got a drink and four items to share: Drink: the coconut cream mojito (we ordered it less sweet but it's still on the sugary side) which was delicious! Such great, fresh flavors! Next time we'll try the guava margarita and passion fruit mojito! Appetizer: Empanadas- comes w two and a dipping sauce. We got one of each- a chicken and a beef. Both delicious and that sauce was bursting with flavor! Light and flaky. It didn't feel greasy or heavy. One of the best I've had! I'm craving more of them already. Main dish #1: Mofongo con camarones a la ajillo (traditional Mofongo w regular mashed plantains w shrimp and a garlic sauce). So so delicious!! There was a lot of flavorful sauce-- which makes or breaks mofongo for me. We were told later to try the Trifongo w it next time-- which is mofongo made of all 3 options: the regular plantain, sweet plantain, and yuca! That is different! Will try next! Main dish #2: Pastelón con carne: This amazingness is pure comfort food!! It's a small cast iron skillet, filled w sweet plantains (maduros), seasoned ground beef (they also have w chicken option), and covered w melted cheese-- baked to perfection. And served with rice and saucy black beans. Sooooooo good!!! And the beef seasoning was perfect! So flavorful. Main dish #3 (it's his birthday, we gotta go big! Lol): The Piccaña Brazilian steak platter. Wow!! What a plate of food! It came served on a wooden chopping board, displayed beautifully, with the gorgeous piece of steak- we ordered ours medium which was great, creamed corn (creamy cheesy corn mmm, cabbage slaw, roasted potatoes and sausage links, and a basic side salad of greens and cabbage w a tasty dressing! It was so good!! Every bite! And the steak was served with a chimi sauce and an a ju sauce (the sauce of the meat to pour over or dip.) so good!! The chimi sauce wasn't our favorite- a bit sour for us. But the house made hot sauce was very good- very vinegary the way he likes it lol. As if that wasn't enough food, we then got dessert lol (but we did take half our meal to go and ate it for dinner! Yum!) Dessert: we were going to order dessert anyways, but the sweet waitress, named Georgia, already put in a special birthday treat for him! It was the coconut empanada and sooo good! A sweet mixture of shredded coconut inside. And we got a little cup of Bustelo coffee to sip alongside it. Perfect! Next we'd love to try the flan and other things! Our total came to $92 -- which was well worth it for all of that amazing food, drink, dessert, coffee, big steak platter, AND half of it to take home for dinner! A great birthday meal! We loved getting to talk with the owner, Anna, and had such a fun chat with her! I love the vision that her and her husband, Hector, have, and it's exciting to hear their passion for this place. I also love that they had her mother come over from the DR to teach the chefs all of her seasonings and cooking ways! No wonder the food is incredible- every single dish we had! Hector is also a chef with much experience. The place is very cute, and well decorated, with vibrant paintings from DR, cozy booths, nice lighting, bar seating for those that want a quick lunch or drink. They have great quick lunch options also, like rice bowls, a Caribbean style burger, empanadas, fusion tacos etc. And many drinks. The music playing was perfect. They have a brand new sports bar next store, called the Goat Sports bar, that's connected by a door, and looks really cool inside! With bar style fusion food like mojo chicken wings, empanadas, and much more, a happy hour 4-6p week days for $5, all the different sports games playing, bartenders, and great atmosphere as well. We'll come check it out soon! They have two locations of Sofrito - this one on main st, and another off Woodruff. I hear they're also working on more things! Parking was easy on a Tuesday right in front on the street-2 hour free parking. But I'm sure in the evenings/ weekends that is different. I'm not sure if they also have a lot. We really enjoyed our special lunch and can't wait to come back soon and try even more! read more

So good! Wednesday is ladies night and margaritas are half price, and the mangorita was a great choice. We chose two different "bowls", the chicken with avocado ranch and the Cuban. Both were plentiful and delicious with rice, beans, and Latin-style veggies. Service was so friendly and efficient. Atmosphere is comfortable and casual, and there's outdoor seating with string lights. With so many delicious dishes on the menu to try, we will definitely be back...especially for Sunday brunch. read more

I'm ecstatic that they have opened the downtown location. I try to avoid Woodruff Rd area, but suffered through it to eat at that location. Now they are on our end of town. Everything my wife and I have tried is amazing. Today we started with house chips and guacamole, then I had Ropa Vieja and it was delicious. I never thought I would rave about a bowl of black beans and rice, but it was well flavored and cooked to perfection. They also have killer house Margaritas. The food at Sofrito's in downtown Greenville was awesome! I've heard this sentiment from multiple friends and it's reputation lived up to it. We split the Grilled Octopus, Chicken Enchiladas, and Seafood Ceviche. This was some of the best prepared octopus that I've had. It was delicious. The ceviche tasted fresh and had a good flavor to it. The empanadas were flaky and had a nice sauce pairing. We ordered a skinny margarita and a mojito, neither were too sweet, and both very refreshing. The only thing that could have been improved was the service. While we were sat right away and the food and drinks came out quickly, we had to ask for appetizer plates and water refills. We were outside so our waitress couldn't casually walk by to see if we needed things, so giving her the benefit of the doubt - she got us our things immediately after asking. My family and I came to eat after church and had an awful experience. Our server was absent most of the time. waters were empty and cockroach crawled on table. orders were wrong and food took long time to come out, other people got their food before us after being there for 45+ minutes.
