OMG. i cant believe nobody has written a review about this place yet!!!!! I was introduced to this place by my friends who live around Ellicott city and...it is simply amazing. the portions they give you is HUGE. Im a big eater and the the kiddie size is enough for me. I think it comes with one free topping cuz i havent been charged extra when i asked for a topping. I didn't like their chocolate. but their orange, vanilla and banana is really really good. They always have orange, vanilla and chocolate. but they have special flavours everyday. The ice cream is creamy but not too creamy. its not too sweet. its just great. MUST TRY IT and its sooooooooo cheap! p.s it's soft serve ice cream. HAHA read more

This place deserves a perfect rating. If you've gone in the summer, you know the line goes on forever, but everyone waits patiently because it's just that good. Been coming to Soft Stuff since I was 4 y/o so it is what I compare all soft serve too (and no place else comes close). As a child I'd get the small cones, which must have been bigger than my head at the time. Now I opt for the kiddie size because it's actually a normal serving. Large? Forget about it, no one should consume that much dairy in one sitting. Chocolate, vanilla and twist are standard; mint and orange (with swirl availabilities) are rotating players. They have milk shakes, snowballs and banana splits, but it's really about the soft serve. Orange swirl and vanilla with rainbow jimmies are my go-tos; no need to get fancy with toppings because the ice cream really does stand on it's own. Don't know what's in store for the future since they tore down the Forest Motel and plan to build some awful office complex or whatever. Soft Stuff as a sit-down parlor? Weird. I just want to sit down on the curb in the motel's carport with my high school friends like old times :( read more

Lots of options, twist choco+vanilla or vanilla+orange, millions of sprinkles. CASH ONLY. Super fast, friendly. I got the 32oz to share with a couple friends, and they threw in a couple cups, sprinkles on the side, and extra spoons! This place is an institution! Awesome, creamy, soft serve, and rolled in sprinkles - I love it! And I love the atmosphere. You can enjoy your soft serve in front on the grass and watch route 40 traffic go by or you can go sit at the picnic tables in back under the trees! This will be a very simple review. Excellent ice cream, utterly soft and the portions are hug. I ordered a small pistachio come and it was about 7 inches in height. The texture was creamy and milky and just amazing. The only detriment to the experience is Baltimore is hit and it'll drop down ur fingers regardless of how fast you try to eat it. The store was very well maintained and the staff was very friendly and helpful too! I'll miss this ice cream. read more

Awesome! On the side of Route 40 in Ellicott City. They have a small parking lot, you you walk up onto their deck to wait on line and order. I went with my usual: Vanilla soft serve with chocolate sprinkles. Granted, it's really tough to do this wrong, but it was delicious. I wish the ice cream was a LITTLE creamier, but it was still excellent. Prices are reasonable too! read more

This will be out of the ordinary for me, but this review is going to be short (for me) and sweet. Ice Cream: 5/5 stars. You can't get any better with a small being a giant serving of ice cream for $2. There's no real need for this place to have bigger sizes but they do if you really want one. I ate the cone before I thought about taking a picture, it was that good. I got the Orange and Vanilla Swirl in a cake cone, my friends all got Strawberry (the flavor of the week) and Vanilla Swirls in Waffle cones. Except for one, who got a cake cone instead of a waffle cone. The Waffle cone is extra. It's an outdoor pay at the window type of place, and there really wasn't anywhere to sit because there were so many people eating ice cream (which tells you something about a place that doesn't have much seating). So, my friends and I stood around gobbling up our soft serve ice cream very happily I might add. It was a good ending to our meal at Honey Pig which is at the shopping center next to it. I grew up eating soft stuff on warm summer nights, outside the wooden shack and right next to a creepy motel... luckily the ice cream is still delicious, creamy and sweet! It's still cash only as well so come prepared. The new location definitely doesn't have the same rustic feel, but now you can get your soft serve fix all year round. I do miss the old shack though... I highly recommend you stick to a kiddie size unless you are SUPER hungry or are lucky enough to not be plagued by lactose intolerance such as myself. My go to order is a chocolate-vanilla twist with rainbow sprinkles. I also highly recommend a chocolate dipped come (But be prepared to get messy!) My family and came here right after we eat from dinner to celebrate my 9th years old nephew for desert. This place is so tiny and tight bearly can fit inside. So crowded that I have eat outside. Its true. The small cone size is a lot. Came with a friend and she couldnt finish hers so she ended up throwing it away. I ended up cutting off some ice cream with a spoon to get to the cake cone part. The interior is nice with a couples of tables for small groups. read more

I don't know what they put in there treats but they are super delicious! I tried the strawberry sundae and I just ordered a small size but it came out huge. They were out of mostly all their flavors and the workers had a hard time communicating this to the large crowd. Also, the machines were having freezing issues so they could not serve cones only dishes. Soft stuff is the BEST ice cream I've found in EC/Columbia area. My friend who is from EC took me there for the first time and it's definitely a local's secret. The ice cream is smooth and delicious and the portions are huge! I always get a kiddie size and it's more than enough! The ice cream is so smooth and creamy!!! The pricing is not bad at all for the amount that they give you. I went in with the intention of having the pistachio ice cream but found out it was seasonal. I really want to try it as that is my favorite flavor but also because of how it looks (white and blue on the edges). I tasted the banana ripple and it was like having banana pudding! Soft serve right next to Honeypig. Say whaaaaaat? My family and I waddled over here after stuffing ourselves with Korean bbq, and were pleased with the quality of the soft serve. Also, be aware that a small is actually a tower of creamy yumminess, which is great unless you just ate the equivalent of an entire bbq pig. I think a normal "small" is the kid's size or something. Soft stuff pleasee accept credit cardss it's like..the 21st century?! Lolol. Anyhow, the consistency of the soft serve here is amazingly creamy and thick. They have been open the same amount of years I've been alive (ahem..31...cough) and they offer the most combinations of soft serve flavors that I've ever seent!! Something about this place just brings out the kid in me and I love to get chocolate sprinkles all over my ice cream. It's pretty pricey, but you can save a buck by ordering the kids cone because it's still a hefty amount. What actual kid would be able to finish that portion of ice cream I really don't know haha. Yum! SO glad Soft Stuff is back & I live closer now & can enjoy it more often (though I do miss Cindy's in Elkridge!). I know these fancy self serve froyo places sold by weight are fun and all, but honestly I'm not too adventurous and end up with vanilla and some toppings most of the time anyways. This soft serve ice cream is about the quality. It is thick and creamy and delicious not watery like a lot of the froyo places are. It needs no toppings at all, but I like a few chocolate sprinkles/jimmies sometimes. To me it is comparable to Kohr Bros in OC. There is usually a huge line so be prepared to wait! And I have to knock off a star for cash only. I mean it's 2014 and I don't generally carry cash. Obviously it's not hurting their business as they are always very busy, but a bit of an inconvenience to the customer. read more
