My mom got the chilaquiles with a a latte as well. The pancakes were ok, but there was something off flavor wise that i couldn't quite pinpoint. Not sure if they make them with a protein batter, but I didn't care for them too much. I have never had an experience like this. First off: the drinks were okay at best, and the ambiance was cute. I liked the aesthetic of the place, and I created a lot of good vlog content that I won't be using because... At first, there were just 5 of us. We all ordered drinks and shared a dessert. It was just the 5 of us for about an hour/hour and a half. Our friends from Canada were visiting and they wanted to come grab a drink, so they came after we were done and grabbed a drink. We ask for the check and ask if we can split it and pay for what each of us got: the waiter says no, but we really needed to split it, Americans-Canadians, because we cannot pay each other easily. Our waiter proceeds to say: "it's just $140." We asked if we could see the itemized receipt to make it easier for us to figure out how to split it, and he said, "It's just $140, it's not that hard guys, come on." This started to annoy me, but we just looked at the bill for a moment and figured it out to split it 3 ways. Once we decided that, one person paid their 1/3, and then my friend's boyfriend came in. She asked him to use their card, and he paid another 1/3. The waiter actually said, "Wow, you just needed a man to come in to pay it! Give him a round of applause, everyone!" This was absolutely insane and the most disrespectful thing I have ever heard. While paying, we also figured out that he added a tip and a fee for a large party, because my friends joined us at the last minute. I am so appalled by this place. Also, cherry on top, they are using TOAST to pay out tabs. I have been a server, and I know for a fact he could've split our bill and made the experience so much easier. Came here at midnight after a party. To walk in to a cozy place when you're hungry just feels like "oh thank goodness". Service was very nice! I wouldn't say quick...and for a NY diner you would expect a bit quicker, but hey, maybe slow on the night shift. My husband and I split a milkshake and buttermilk pancakes (they give 3 large ones in an order). Milkshake was very good with a rich flavor. When I opened the bag back at my office, I realized they gave me 2 side salads instead of the 1 side of fries I ordered. The sandwich itself was definitely not what I was expecting for a tuna melt (read: a whole chunk of seared ahi tuna instead of a tuna salad), but it was a unique take on a tuna melt and definitely not bad. I have been coming to the Soho Grand Hotel Diner for the past five days and the pattern is impossible to ignore. This diner has great food, but the character of the place, the energy, the service, and the way the staff operates is completely off. Every day I sit in the same spot and order oatmeal noodles. And every day it takes fifteen to twenty minutes just to be acknowledged, let alone offered water. The servers move like they are unsure of their roles, unsure of their sections, and unsure of who is responsible for anything. There is no structure, no accountability, and no leadership. It feels like a team of people who were thrown onto a floor with zero guidance. You can see it in the body language. People just wandering around, not checking on tables, not noticing guests, and not taking ownership of the space. Everyone seems confused, overwhelmed, or simply uninterested, and it shows. It gives the impression of a staff that is poorly trained and poorly managed, and that ultimately becomes the character of the diner. The most frustrating part is that the food is amazing. The kitchen clearly knows what they are doing, but the service completely diminishes the experience. A restaurant is more than good food. It is the people who represent it. And right now, that is where this diner falls apart. We were in town for some work thing for the hubs and this was one of our stops. It's location was good and it looked like it was going to be adorable - and it is! They even have a working juke box. They offer adult beverages in addition to the traditional diner fare. Speaking of traditional diner fare, I didn't find it too friendly for folks that cannot eat egg. Fortunately they have sour dough bread, so I ordered the turkey club sans mayo. It was good. The hubs ordered pancakes and thoroughly enjoyed them - they looked fluffy and wonderful. We had to wait a bit, so I'd suggest making a reservation. If we're in the area again, I'd check their menu and see if they have any changes. Immediately when I walked in I notice there was disorganization. A couple had to come ask for a menu after being seated for several minutes. The host was wondering around while a line was forming near the door. When we eventually got seated, my boyfriend and I were looking over their very small menu with niche items. I am a fan of eclectic food but when I'm at a diner I usually prefer the classics. He ended up getting the chicken and waffles and I got a roast beef sandwich. The service was pretty slow and our food took over 30 minutes to come out. We only saw our waiter when we ordered and one more time after that. After that I noticed the manager was walking around. We made a lot of eye contact and I had asked my waiter when we paid if she was indeed the manager. He had confirmed that she was. I'm pointing her out because she came around asking if we needed anything, my boyfriend asked for some more water since they serve in very small glasses. When I saw her I asked if we could once again get more water and she very rudely hit me with "your waiter can get that for you" and walked away. The modernized diner theme was really cool! Had a juke box and the diner seating was fun! They are super strict on reservations though so make sure your entire party is ready for seating. Our waiter was great though! Really enjoyed the "lookin for a kiss" cocktail! The sparkling wine was the perfect ingredient in this nice & light rose/citrus-y drink. The jack's espresso martini was also pretty tasty but where were the beans on top?? The spinach, farmer's cheese and tomato omelette was super tasty and packed with the veggies and cheese.
