There were a lot of regulars there and the staff was very friendly joking around the entire time. I had the corned beef and hash with eggs which included a side of buttered toast and potatoes. The corned beef hash was good and they cooked the eggs the way I requested it, which I appreciated. The potatoes were sadly bland and mushy so they needed salt and ketchup to taste like anything. After all the hype and hearing about this spot, I finally got to go. Overall, I thought the food was fine. I was here for their famous Challah French Toast, but it lacked flavor. I can tell that the batter was decent, but not well seasoned. Typically, great french toast for me has a moist, rich center and this was fairly dry and only had the subtle flavor of the batter/custard. I also ordered a side of scrambled eggs and that was the best part of my meal - the eggs were fresh and tasted as I expected. The service was attentive. I was here somewhat early on a Sunday morning and there were only four other customers, so it wasn't difficult to get a table. If I went back, I'd try other items on the menu. read more

Well, since Jamie W. and I were going on an inadvertent tour of Manhattan's greasy spoons for breakfast, it seemed like a major miss if we didn't try it. After all, a lot of cool local celebrities like Julianne Moore and Molly Shannon apparently get their maximum amount of daily carbs here. It was bustling mostly with hungry thirtysomethings, and we decided to sit in one of the tiny sidewalk tables covered in a wooden frame. The comprehensive menu was meeting their needs. There was a huge selection of breakfasts, sandwiches, and salads, as well as a couple of pages of diner-style hot plates. For some reasoning, I had an unmet hankering for a club. I ordered the $17.25 Chicken Salad Club Sandwich, and it arrived just the way I expected, quartered with bacon, lettuce, and tomato between three slices of white toast. However, the wait time was less than ideal. We stood in line for almost an hour to get a table in the heated outdoor structure (they don't take reservations). There were open tables outside on the sidewalk, but it was too windy, and we knew we'd be too cold. They don't have any indoor seating; I'm not sure if they plan to bring it back eventually because I believe that I read that they offered indoor seating before COVID. Once we were seated, we were quickly greeted by our very friendly waitress (I didn't catch her name). We were starving by the time we got seated, so we were grateful for the prompt service! The restaurant has your typical diner menu, plenty of omelets, sandwiches, pancakes, etc. My friends and I each ordered an omelet; I went for the bacon and cheddar omelet, filled with melty cheese and crispy bacon. Although the omelets are small, I prefer that because I'm not a fan of omelets with too much egg and not enough fillings. We all swapped our home fries for regular french fries, which was a good move! The french fries were crispy and delicious. We also ordered a small stack of pancakes to share because there are few things better than diner pancakes! And last but not least, we shared the chocolate chip french toast. It lived up to the hype; the texture was perfect, and it had so much melty chocolate on top. I'll be back one day (when it's warmer) to order it again!
