When choosing a place to host a work event for my department, I usually take lead. This particular event was a little more intimate than others I've planned, however there were 14 of us which still required me to go though the events department for most places. The Dutch was referred to me by the events planner of another Andrew Carmellini restaurant - the menu, prices, and vibes looked on point so I decided to pursue booking my event here. The Dutch is one of several restaurants owned by chef Andrew Carmellini. I'm not too familiar with his spots, but I have been to the nearby Lafayette and it has slowly become one of my favorite restaurants. The Dutch checked off several boxes for me since they were able to accommodate a party of our size in a private room, offered a varied menu, and allowed us to purchase drinks as we went instead of locking us into a preset package. The restaurant itself looks great - the decor was somewhat modern, and the private room was a decent size with the walls lined with liquor bottles that made the aesthetics pop. The menu was preset for us when I booked, though they said we could make modifications and add more food if needed. All the food was served family style with three apps, three mains, and two desserts. We started with scallion chipotle cornbread, marinated baby beets, and Chinatown calamari. These were all pretty good - the cornbread was warm and buttery, though I could not really taste any chipotle. The beets were good, but the calamari was the most unique dish for me. The squid was breaded, but then served in somewhat of a salad which added brightness and cut through the heaviness of the fried fish. For mains we had the smoked ricotta agnolotti, the hot fried chicken, and the lemon roasted cod. These were all solid, though I would say I was looking for the smoked in the pasta, the hot in the chicken, and the lemon in the fish. Besides that though, the chicken was fried well and juicy, and the cod was a great consistency - each coming with sides that complemented the proteins well. The pasta was the weakest dish IMO, I probably wouldn't order it if i ever returned. Additionally, they served us sides of broccolini and shoestring fries which were both very good. To close out the meal, we were served chocolate chip cookies and various ice cream scoops which were solid. Service was great - we had a dedicated server and bartender for the evening who were really friendly and accommodating. Outside of that, the communication with the team when making the arrangements was great - Jo was very responsive and made sure all my questions were answered. Overall, we had a good time at The Dutch - the food and vibes were on. I would be curious to return as a regular patron to see how their food and service holds up. read more

Had a nice dinner at The Dutch recently. The interior is elevated casual, with tables and a bar area. We split the cornbread appetizer, which was good but not particularly unique. I got the burger, which was a well cooked medium-rare. You need to order fries as a side dish, and one order is more than enough for 2 people to share. Overall it was a good dining experience, though not a particularly memorable one. That being said, I did not order anything adventurous or unique, so worth a try for a date night or casual dinner with friends! FYI - the main bathroom is in the basement down a decent flight of steps, but there is a single bathroom on the main floor as well. read more

Absolutely love The Dutch! I've visited here multiple times over the past few months and each time it has been just as great as the last. It's usually pretty busy, but thankfully they have a decent amount of seating both inside and out. My must orders here include the fries, calamari, and cookies! Just a good spot for catching up with friends. Some people were in jeans and sneakers, others in sport coats and heels. It really is a place for everybody! The food was good, but only two things I had were memorable. The corn bread (SOOOOO good, wish I ordered more!) and the oysters. We ordered 3 of each option they were offering that day, and to be honest I usually can't taste too much of a difference in what bay the oyster was from. These tasted so fresh, the difference between each bay was night and day! Blindfolded I would be able to distinguish them which for me is a feat because I normally can't. I had such a nice time at The Dutch this past weekend! I was so grateful they could accommodate our large party of seven on a Saturday night. We sat outside and it was lovely. The vibe out there is easy and relaxed but still feels nice. Our server was incredibly kind and knew the menu inside and out. He gave great recommendations and really took care of us. I tried the "Faux Daisy" mocktail to start with and really enjoyed it! Not too sweet, felt like a real cocktail, with a nice hit of orange bitters. My only tiny gripe is I wish there was a little more of it... the ice takes up half the glass, and it's gone in like three sips, but hey, maybe that's just how cocktails go. The cornbread (scallion/chipotle) was really good with amazing butter, though the chipotle flavor was very mild. Our server told us the place is known for their burgers, fried chicken, and hanger steak with house-made kimchi which I thought was so cool. It did take a while for our food to come out, but since we were a big group, I get it. When it arrived, everything came out hot and together, which I appreciate. The burger was good! It was a solid, classic good burger. Didn't blow my mind, but it was flavorful and solid. The hanger steak though? Phenomenal. Perfectly cooked, super flavorful, balanced, with that kimchi, rice, and egg on top... I loved it! My boyfriend was kind enough to share some with me :). The hot honey fried chicken was another standout. Huge portion, totally sharable, and packed with flavor. The fries were like elevated McDonald's fries in that they were thin and crispy, but felt fancy too! I wasn't wild about all the sides being $14... though I know it's NYC. That felt a little steep for 3 pieces of broccolini, but everything we tried was great quality. The duck meatloaf was a fun surprise too. I don't eat duck, but the others said it was amazing and surprisingly mild in duck flavor, so if you're duck-averse, you might still like it. The service overall was just top-notch. You can tell everyone cares about the food and the experience. The ingredients feel high-quality and intentional. It's definitely more of a "nice night out" kind of meal (probably around $50 a person at a minimum). I'd absolutely come back for the vibes, chicken, and steak lol. We came to the Dutch last night and had a tasty, enjoyable dinner. It was lovely evening out, so we chose to dine outside. It's on the sidewalk with a lot of foot traffic, which was fine except for the occasional smell of smoke. Also, a bug flew into my rosé, but the server kindly replaced it and gave me a coaster to cover it. For food, we ordered the following for 2 to share: - The Prince Platter - Chinatown Calamari - Lemon Roasted Cod - Potato Purée The Prince Platter was nicely presented with oysters (4 kinds x3 each), jumbo shrimp (4 pieces) and lobster salad. I especially like the jumbo shrimp, which were fresh and very plump. The Chinatown Calamari was more like a calamari salad, with cucumbers, carrots and bean sprouts. The calamari was lightly breaded and perfectly fried, which I loved. We didn't try the famous fried chicken, but will have to next time. The Lemon Roasted Cod was a nice, colorful dish and the Potato Puree is a must try for any creamy mashed potato lovers. Our servers were attentive and it was a great meal overall. I've been stressed lately. Going through it. In the blender. Just a lot going on, personally and professionally. One of the main stressors being this big deal at work I've legit been chasing for a year. It's been a journey. This client is so hot and heavy one day, then just ghosts me for months. The team knew I was stressing and down bad, as the client said he was going to sign last week and then went radio silent, so they took me to lunch here at the Dutch to take my mind off it. Everyone got a round of drinks, I just stuck with water because alcohol at this point may have sent me past the event horizon. A random thunderstorm began to pour down outside as if to match my mood. As I was sitting there in the beautiful interior of the Dutch feeling sorry for myself, I got a text from the client that read "Did you get the signed contract back?" My heart sank into my chest. I showed my work bestie and we silently walked outside while looking at each other like "oh my god... is this about to finally happen?" I called him in the hallway, as I didn't have anything in my email. I stayed on the phone with him as he re-sent it, and when it came through, me and my homie SPRINTED into the pouring rain chest bumping and hugging. I love that mf. If I saw a movie where this happened, I would have thought it was beyond corny. "That would never happen..." We came back inside drenched in rainwater, and ordered champagne and a round of tequila shots for everyone. We proceeded to get LOADED at 2pm on a Thursday. It was beautiful. Sales SUCKS a lot of the time so you gotta celebrate the wins, and boy did we. Our server, Celeste, was so confused about the vibe shift but just rolled with it like a champ. Big shoutout to Celeste. She's the good luck. I demolished this 8oz dry aged burger and fries, washing it down with tequila on the rocks. I also had half of my big homies AC fried chicken, which was delectable. Full transparency though, anything would have tasted good at this point. If my 20s taught me anything, it's to never tie my self worth to a 9-5 job, but this one felt good I can't even lie. Caught up with my long time friends at the Dutch last night (and yes we did go Dutch at the Dutch ‍)! One of the besties is married to one of their chefs, so when the staff saw that we were coming the made sure to make our night super special Everything was DELICIOUS, we spilt some appetizers (oysters, broccolini, tuna carpaccio, wagyu beef tartare, whipped fava dip) and not a single one disappointed. The tuna was definitely my favorite out of all the stuff we shared, The calamari and slaw that it came with was also out of this world! For my entree, I got the lobster tagliolini and everything about it was perfect. I usually like to add black pepper or crushed red pepper to my pasta but this didn't event need it and the lobster was so tender we finished off dinner with some lovely dessert options including their infamous chocolate chip cookies! Terrible service- tons of ppl standing around; a few rushing around NOT answering your questions/needs; have to ask for things multiple times (and still not get them); plates sitting there empty then ages later someone finally comes around and asks if they can clear an empty plate; upon ordering new food there is no utensil and THEN they ask you "do you need a fork"? This is simply ridiculous, and exhausting. OH additionally the place is hot and stuffy. Really uncomfortable. And unnecessary crowding-- they seated a LOUD party right next to us (in a sparse restaurant) and thus could no longer hear anything. Whyyyyy. Great ambiance, service and vibe; Sadly, the food did not match any of those. The steak was oversalted, the jumbo shrimp cocktail was overcooked and medium size, at best (not that I wanted any more); the duck meatloaf was meh and the fried chicken had a great crisp but was incredibly dry. On the good side, the beet salad was very good and the brussel sprouts with bacon was yummy. This restaurant's menu needs a rethink or they need a new chef. read more

The Chamomile Highball surprisingly tasted like a cocktail rather than a mocktail. I wouldn't say that it reminded me of chamomile as much as I'd say it tasted like it used healthy ingredients. As an appetizer, the Tuna Carpaccio and Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail -- while good -- didn't stand out amongst the appetizers compared to the calamari. The Chinatown Calamari was the best calamari I'd ever had, mostly because of the unique mix of vegetables that gave the calamari a less heavy and oily taste. The Citrus Glazed Salmon was flavorful, although it was cooked just a bit less than I like it. I was disappointed by the meat to salad ratio, but the plate was filling. Walked by this place & decided to come here for brunch. We got the fried chicken, black hanger steak and cornmeal flapjacks. All the food tasted decent, flapjacks were a little dry but the blueberry syrup made it better. We really enjoyed the fried chicken with their homemade hot sauce & honey butter biscuits as well as the hanger steak with kimchi fried rice- both dishes were cooked perfectly. 4.5 stars The Dutch had always been a favorite restaurant of mine, and I had enjoyed many lunches and dinners there. However, it had been a good deal of time since my last visit. In fact, when I signed in to write this review, I noticed several notes and unpublished drafts of my past experiences. So, I am proud to say that I am finally writing this review! On my most recent visit, I got to experience their private dining area, which was in the basement, for a work event. The small room was supposed to hold up to 20 people, but it was TIGHT! The space had a small bar that could accommodate about 3 people standing, as well as one long table that had seats right on top of one another. Plus, the acoustics were awful; between the background music and group of boisterous folks, it was very hard to converse at a normal decibel. Aside from the room, the food and drinks were excellent! I enjoyed a few glasses of the 2023 Hedges Family "CMS" Sauvignon Blanc from Columbia Valley, Washington. The crisp white was balanced, fruity, and with only a subtle hint of acid. It was excellent! In terms of the meal, everything was served family-style, but, thankfully, they remembered to provide serving spoons for use amongst our bunch of strangers. The first course included three appetizers. First was the "Chinatown Calamari" with smashed cucumbers and chili crisp. Its dressing was vinegary and definitely had an Asian flare. The octopus had been ever so slightly battered and fried. Each ring was tender and succulent. The House-made Scallion-Chipotle Cornbread was crumbly and more like a dry bread than a cake, which I preferred. It had just the right among of scallion to prevent us from offending our closely seated neighbors. Lastly, there were Marinated Baby Beets with sheep's milk labneh and hazelnuts, which looked great, but I did not sample. For the main courses, they made sure to diversify the options, so that there would be something for everyone. The Steelhead Trout had been cooked with wild garlic in a brown butter sauce. The pink fish had been cooked perfectly, leaving it tender and moist. The trout was also garnished with some greens. In addition, there was a large bowl of Fried Chicken and Biscuits. While I did not try the crispy poultry, the buttery, flaky biscuits were terrific! However, they were lathered with a honey butter that was very sticky and a bit too honey-flavored for my liking. Lastly, the vegetarian option was the Smoked Ricotta Agnolotti sitting in a light, sweet tomato sauce and accompanied by some basil. I found the smokiness interesting, especially in contrast to the sweetness of the tomato, but I do not know that it would be a dish I would proactively order. Lastly, for dessert, we were presented with a platter of cookies and a giant bowl of ice cream scoops of assorted flavors. I sampled the Raspberry Sorbet, which was refreshing, light, and not too sugary. The Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies were warm, gooey, and packed with chips. They also had a slight brown butter or caramelized taste. I was so excited to be back at The Dutch and to try it in a new way. I would return, but today was mid. Made a Resy for brunch on a Sunday for 2 PM for 2 guests and was seated immediately. A/C wasn't working well so it was a bit stuffy. Excellent service. Pleasant, attentive, and knowledgeable staff. We ordered the grapefruit vanilla brûlée, crab deviled eggs, flapjacks, and lobster frittata. I enjoyed all of these things but would run back to none of them. And they were all made well enough that I'd be interested to know how they execute other things on the menu (like the famous chicken or the steak). Cocktails were solid. My friend loved the Jitney Julep and my favorite was the Oaxacan Sunset (both of which were spirit forward). A busy spot with great service and solid food! I love how the fried chicken is crispy and delicious without being greasy. The hot sauce is a great add. The service is always good & friendly. They know when to drop a drink menu, follow up on a new drink, pick up your food, etc. the restaurant itself is gorgeous, a little dark, and well maintained. Was in NYC for a magic show for the Great mentalist Jake berg at the Soho playhouse. The Dutch was close by. Met some friends there. Started with the chipotle corn bread. Eggplant dip pork ribs and heirloom tomatoes salad. Everything was real good. A couple of Margaritas as well. Shared the fried chicken and Lemon roasted Cod. All the food was delicious. Service on point. Playing good music. Good find. Highly recommended read more

I have always loved this place. The staff have always been so friendly, accommodating, and timely in taking orders. The menu offers a wide variety and brunch is always fun. Unfortunately, today while I was at The Dutch today I was there having brunch and ordered the soft scramble smoked salmon dish. The last time I had it I was so happy with it! Salmon was delicious. This time around, instead of the dish coming with a toasted bagel, it was served with the hardest piece of bread I have ever tried to cut into. If anyone has ever seen the SNL skit where she is cutting into the steak and the whole table shakes, that was us today. They even gave us steak knives ahead of time probably knowing how difficult cutting the bread would be. Servings were smaller and the roe was only a few instead of a whole side. Venturing into a classy joint like this as a solo diner meant sitting at the bar, but at least there were three different kinds of bars, and my windowside location must have been considered a decent spot since a nearby setting said "reserved." This was my Ramp Season Finale, so I opted for the Ora King Salmon primarily for this briefly available bulb. The menu was into the brevity thing and didn't detail the excellent sauce. Might have some secret ingredients. The fish was outstanding, converting this salmon agnostic. The sugar snaps were so fresh one wonders if they were harvested that morning in Washington Square Park. Terrible service and food! Went here with my girlfriend for lunch and ordered the fried chicken and waffles. The wait was over 45 minutes despite the restaurant being nearly empty. The chicken was completely raw under the fried breading. Servers were dismissive of complaints about the food and refused to take it back or make it right in any possible way. Sadly when a customer is allergic or doesn't like something and is told that "we can omit but we can't replace" I think that is a sign that the place doesn't care about the customer. When I finally ordered (after a tasty little Mezcal drink called the Life Coach and really wanting to give the place a chance) Deviled eggs with crab and jalapenos, and biscuits with butter and honey. Well the biscuits showed up cold (slightly less than room temp) wtf? I waited for over 15 minutes after the order. Plenty of time to bake a Biscuit. Disappointed, and they were really tasty. This is an amendment: The waitress who cashed me out was extremely nice, although she did see me leaving a comment and ask if there was anything she could do to have saved the situation. I'm not one for wasting food if I try something and it's tasty I'll eat it cold or not. But when you're expecting to get a hot buttery honey drizzled biscuit that's what you want to get. Once again, the biscuits were extremely good tasting just cold. The waitress gave me some free cookies to try to make me feel better.. Intimate ambiance yet great for groups. Located in the heart of SoHo. Friendly service and the wait staff is highly attentive. They definitely work as a team. Oysters were great. The fried chicken on the other hand surprised us. It was actually good- crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. I actually ate the slaw and I'm picky about coleslaw. After waiting for about 15 minutes, we were then led to the dining room at the back of the house, which was definitely better in my opinion. The service while we waited by the bar was lacking, but this changed once we were sat. Our table was so cozy, by the fireplace, probably the best seat in the house. Ryan our server was on top of business, making sure we had everything we needed. Dishes were scrumptious and the portions were large! I mean it's thanksgiving right? This we really appreciated. We started off with the turkey wings and oysters. the wings were delicious, and well made, I just wish it had a punch of spicy in it, however it was still juicy. This place was on my list for awhile never visited because of the boring menu...on a Sunday night we couldn't get a table anywhere else in the area.. we came here and got a table right away that should have been the 1st red flag. Tried Chinese calamari, calamari not that fresh the dish is nothing special The jalapeno cornbread not bad Ordered their signature dish the AC fried chicken which comes with cole slaw and biscuit. The slaw and the biscuits are decent, the fried chicken is one of the worst i have had dry and oversalted and at $35 bucks it's a joke. Popeyes is 10x better for a quarter of the price I did try the wagyu burger which was small but fantastic. Carmel apple pie with ice cream fairly standard. Its a Soho location so they can get away with mediocre food and high prices if it wouldn't be for the nice atmosphere and excellent service i would give it 2 stars. Solid food but pretty high prices that I'm not sure I would pay again. We started with the crab deviled eggs ($18 for a half dozen) and scallion-chipotle cornbread ($9). The deviled eggs were excellent- they had generous portions of crab and were each topped with a sliced jalapeño that added a nice little kick of heat. The cornbread was also good, although the scallion and chipotle flavors were pretty mild, and the portion was very small. It came with a fluffy salted butter that was excellent. It would've been nice if it had come out warm so that the butter could melt on top, and it was a little odd that it was served in a skillet but wasn't cooked in one (it was a small loaf). Our mains were the Southern style eggs benedict ($31) and the breakfast sandwich ($25). Honestly, part of my order was curiosity as I've never seen a breakfast sandwich that expensive. However, I have to say it was worth it- it's a generous size (the sausage patty on its own is large) and very flavorful. It came on a honey butter biscuit and was so tall that it was pretty hard to eat, but I really enjoyed it. The only thing that would've made it perfect was a jam, jelly, or sauce as the sandwich was a bit dry on the biscuit. It also came with a side of potatoes that wasn't listed on the menu (nice surprise!), which were drizzled with aioli and topped with Parmesan. The eggs benedict were good, but came with one slice of country ham- this isn't a pricey meat and it kind of felt like a little more should've been included. We also ordered mimosas, which weren't on the menu- we didn't ask but were pretty surprised to see on the check that they were $18 each. It's in line with the rest of the cocktails on the menu but more than I've ever paid for a mimosa at brunch, and the orange juice was not fresh squeezed (which I don't usually mind, but think it probably should be for that price). Came here on a girls NY trip from SD. met some friends for lunch/brunch. Started with their signature Bloody Caesar. It was yummy and came in a cool glass. Also ordered the burger and my friends each ordered the breakfast sandwich and we all shared the fries. Everything was great. The atmosphere, the food, the setting. Sunday brunch paat 2pm. Staff is friendly and super accommodating with our stroller (kid was sleeping in it) Good aervice and food came pretty fast We had deviled eggs, eggplant dip, burger and eggs benedict Eggs were pretty good! Very soft The dip was okay, the crackers had too much seasoning Husband liked the burger and fries were perfectly cooked, super crunchy! Now, eggs benny were a bit too much. First, overpriced for just the two eggs, no side, nothing. The sauce had a too strong flavor that pretty much ate away the rest of the dish, ham not noticeable. You could only taste the sauce which also had too much black pepper (and I am a peppercorn lover) and it was salty. Def do not get this one. Place and ambiance super cute. read more
