I've dealt with Soil Direct twice for pea gravel and I've been happy with both orders. I used the Yelp deal most recently and saved the cost of a cubic yard or two. Delivery was available the next day and it occurred within the two-hour time window. The quality of the gravel is excellent. I completely re-did my front lawn. Got started digging sod up, dirt, rocks and roots. Found this company searching online for soil. Purchased the top-soil, 70/30. Did it all online. The product was awesome and delivered on time and they did not leave a mess. So, I needed fill dirt. Bought it online. Same result. Finally, needed sod. Bought it here. My contractor recommended Soil Direct because of their prices (which are very competitive). I called repeatedly on June 17, 18, and 19 and no one answered. I also emailed on June 19 and 20 with no response. I finally got through to someone on the phone on June 20 who told me to order online. The online system let me select June 21 as the delivery date, but then the rep (Eric?) called back and said that the dates listed on the system were not accurate. We scheduled delivery for the following week (June 28). The rep asked if our driveway would be wide enough for a large truck to come up. I said yes (we had 10 yards of gravel delivered the week before and have had several large trucks in our driveway during renovations). On delivery day, I get a call that the truck can't make it up -- they don't offer a fix, just say they'll call me back. On July 1, I call Soil Direct to sort out the issue (they should have called me) and am told that they will have to send out a smaller truck, it'll cost more money, and it can't happen this week. I cancelled the order and called the same vendor who I used for gravel delivery a few weeks ago (and they're going to use the same large truck). The cost is a bit higher than Soil Direct, but their customer service (and apparently their ability to drive large trucks) is way better. Soil Direct is not worth the hassle. read more

I'm in the Tujunga, CA area and needed 12 cubic yards of mulch and 7 cubic yards of pea gravel. Soil Direct seems to be only a website (not an actual location) that basically fills orders on line. I assume the local suppliers pay a fee to Soil Direct to be listed as a supplier. I wanted to deal directly with the local place and see the product so I called the Soil Direct Tujunga phone # three times and left messages. No return calls. Finally, on the fourth call, Erik answered. They only have a mailing address and no where to go see samples of their products. To get samples you have to pay $10 and wait for them in the mail. Who knows if what you get as a sample matches what will be delivered? Mulch quality can vary widely. So I asked 3 different local gardeners and a contractor who they used. They all recommended The Soil and Sod Depot out by Whitemen Airport. I went there to check it out. No fancy website , just a friendly staff who gave me advice and labelled ziplock bags for samples They had everything Soil Direct had at much lower prices. Example: 12 cubic yards of "Supreme Walk On Mulch" at Soli Direct $969. The Soil an Sod Depot price was $660 plus $85 delivery. Most of the guys there placing orders were pros. I needed planting mix for my raised beds. I called one day and spoke with a guy on the phone. He quoted me one price. I said I would get back to him when I needed delivery. I called back a few days later and the price with higher. I asked about the discrepancy. Erik, the owner, mentioned perhaps it was a cash price. Either way.......why are your prices different from one day to another? Also, a "cash price" was never mentioned in the earlier conversation. The delivery date was set. Sometime between 7am - 9am. No show. I called at 10am No one was there. Called again a half hour later and got Erik on the phone. No explanation when I asked why they didn't call or show up. Just a lame excuse that he forgot to call me. I said I took a half day off work for this delivery, can you please do something to rectify your mistake. i.e.......a small discount of 20 bucks or how bout an apology??? No, he said. I already have the cash price. No apology, no compensation, no trying to make it right. No professionalism. While I understand things happen, equipment breaks down, etc. As a business owner, make it right with your customers. Starting with an apology! Rude, incompetent, unprofessional. Then he hung up on me saying he didn't want my business. I then did some online research, called The Organic Soil Blend (818) 899-7183 in Sylmar and spoke with Gustavo. His prices were better, the delivery charge cheaper, and he even delivered when they typically won't unless you buy a certain amount. And it was delivered within two hours the same day. Ordered 3 cubic yards of decomposed granite. Received a call beforehand letting me know the driver was going to be half an hour early. Caller and driver were both friendly and professional. Unusually punctual and polite for construction/materials related stuff, in my experience. read more

This place is great for your landscaping projects. I ordered my sod on a Sunday evening for a Tuesday morning delivery, and come Tuesday morning, there it was! It was good quality St. Augustine sod which looks excellent in our yard. Erik was very helpful in making my transaction a smooth one. Their prices are very competitive also. read more

I really wanted to like this company because their website is so easy to use and prices seem fair. I bought a yelp deal, so the price was even better. However, we had scheduled delivery for between 11-1 and they did not show up until after 5 pm. We got one phone call letting us know they would be late, but couldn't get ahold of them after to check on status. read more

I had asked for a delivery of decomposed granite on a saturday morning and expected them between 9 and 11. At 9am a very clean truck showed up, a very courteous and accommodating young man discussed with me where he could drop off the DG, in few minutes it was done. Used them once before for decomposed granite. No problems. Price and delivery as promised and the quality was as expected. But the second time I used them for same my Visa was charged a second time 3 days later for the same delivery I already paid for. I called to report the double charge after seeing it on my Visa bill a month later and requested a call back when the error was corrected. I didn't get one. So I called again the next day and was told that double charge had been corrected. Well thank you for that! If I had not looked carefully at my Visa bill I would have paid twice what I should have. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and say that the double charge was an error and not a fraud attempt, but this is not the kind of error that is easily forgivable. Doesn't speak well for their accounting practices, does it? To be fair, I will say that the load was delivered on time and the driver was very friendly and cooperative. They would have received 5 stars from me if not for the hard to forgive overcharge. read more
