I've driven past Eden Bonsai a bunch, and finally stopped by today. Mr.Kim was very attentive, pleasant, and nice to talk to. The Bonsai are priced very reasonable especially since some of the smaller/medium sized trees are almost 10-15 years old. I bought 2 trees from him that i'm really happy with - it took a lot of walking around the aisles going from one plant to another back and forth. Mr.Kim put a bunch of options side by side and we stood there and observed their shapes together. My wife and I have been to most of the bonsai places around Los Angeles County and this place has the best prices for sure. The selection could be a little bit better but they do have plenty of good stuff as far as nursery material and bonsai then I have a chance to look at the pots really But I did notice some quality rocks as well. read more

You will probably miss the turn into this place when you're looking for it for the first time. But just look for the Wienerschnitzel and pull into their lot. Look right past the "Wienerschnitzel Only" parking spaces and you'll see a big sign that says BONSAI. They have their own parking spaces there. Once you walk in, you'll see there's a huge collection of bonsai waiting for you! It's almost overwhelming to choose, but they will help show you around. The man that helped me even offered suggestions on my gift search. He was never pressuring or trying to upsell me. He gave helpful suggestions based on aesthetics and ease of care. I found a beautiful, traditional-style bonsai for $85. All the small sized ones are around that price. That plus the $7 plant food and tax came to $100 and some change. There are also a variety of larger, more expensive trees, including trees that will blossom flowers (currently in bud form) He does accept card, and can even hold your tree for you if you can't pick up your purchase the same day for whatever reason. Also, this place typically closes at 7pm, according to the sign at the entrance. But when I called, he was closing at 6:30pm. So I'd recommend calling ahead just in case. He teaches you everything you need to know in caring for the new tree and also includes an instruction printout as well to take home. He even insisted on carrying the tree all the way to my car and setting it carefully inside. He was helpful and seemed to really care about the trees. And now that I've got this cutie temporarily on my office desk, I'm envious of my own purchase! I'll definitely have to come back again another day to get a tree for myself. read more

My kids and I recently saw an exhibit of beautiful bonsai trees and my son decided he wanted one of his own. I checked Yelp and saw Eden Bonsai had 5 stars, so off we went in search of the perfect juniper bonsai. We easily found the location thanks to other Yelpers who had advised us that we just had to look behind the Wienerschnitzel! Upon arrival we were greeted by a really nice man who gave us a tour and helped us pick out the perfect tree. This place has so many beautiful trees it was a little hard to choose!! He let my son pick out his favorite pot and replanted it on the spot. He gave us plant food and instructions and went over all the details to make sure we understood all the ins and outs of bonsai maintenance. We are ecstatic about our purchase!!!! On the way home we remarked that Eden Bonsai is owned and run by true artisans. That's the only way I can describe what we saw. This small little bonsai store sits within a parking lot behind the a Wienerschnitzel and offers a variety of premade pine bonsais. We came on an afternoon and we were the only ones there. About four rows of trees at various stages of training. There are definitely some mature trees for sales including some beautiful fruit trees but don't expect any grandmaster bonsai masterpieces here for sale. I had a very positive experience at this shop. Great selection and the owner was knowledgeable and patient, despite what I am certain were questions I could have googled beforehand. Example: Do bonsais prefer jazz or folk rock ? Answer (and this shouldn't surprise anyone): Speed metal. The whole thing feels a little like adopting a pet. Some of the trees are already potted, but you can pick others and he'll pot them for you. I learned a lot from watching that process. As far as price, I don't know what bonsai trees go for on the open market. It's not as cheap as going to Armstrongs for, you know, a pot of begonias. Though I don't know how much begonias cost, either, if I'm completely honest. To be clear, you can't buy begonias here and we've spent too much time talking about them now. But I definitely recommend this place. read more

Buyer beware. I just wasted 90 minutes of my life driving to this place only to be turned around because they weren't open. I generally trust posted hours and expect a business to honor them. Nothing noted and no sign on the door of the business beside posted hours saying they should be OPEN. My BF and I stopped by here to pick up a bonsai tree for our new home, the gentleman who works here is EXTREMELY knowledgable! He's friendly and gave us a tour of the quaint nursery. Very rarely- if ever- do I stop midway of walking, drop my jaw and say 'that is BEAUTIFUL'. We came across a large planter with a few towering bonsai trees that resembled a miniature forest. It was around 25 years old, not the oldest he had, but like all the bonsai trees there, it looked like it had a story to tell. Once my BF found the one that was calling to him (an 8 year old bonsai with a partner nestled in a rock formation) the owner gave us an instruction handout and prepped the tree for his new home. He scrubbed the outside of the pot till it shined with pride. He even took the initiative to carry it to our car. You can tell he cares for these plants as if they are his children. A one stop shop for happy little bonsai trees! What a terrific nursery for bonsai and other lucky plants. I've stopped in a handful of times to purchase bonsais for my husbands zen garden and for gifts for loved ones and friends. They have a large selection, and great prices. I wasn't sure what variety of bonsai would work best in a moderately lit room, my husbands office, so I asked and the owner could not have been more helpful. He always takes the time to find the best plant for your needs. I always have to force myself to scale back my purchases, which is hard since i'm a not so secret horticulture/botany enthusiast. Eden doesn't limit its sales to only bonsai trees, they have a selection of other Asian plants, money trees, elephant paw palms, etc. Affordable and quality, it doesn't get any better than that. The owner Terry is friendly and always loves to assist me no matter I buy the bonsai or not. The selection of trees are endless. Starting from $15 small bonsai to couple thousand dollar miniaturized maple bonsai... I have an opportunity to observe when Terry was training and shaping the raw bonsai tree to a complete and beautiful tree, and it just blew my mind. I recently purchased $50 small juniper bonsai for my father-in-law for Father's Day, and it was a complete success. He loves it every moment. It came with an instruction and maintenance manuel paper for my convenience. I will be going back for my wife's birthday gift next month. I highly recommend this place and you won't be disappointed. Geesh this place is hard to find. Drove by it twice looking for the address. If you google the address you actually see the Wienerschnitzel hut which is in front. Go in the driveway and a Bonsai sign on the back chainlink fence lets you know you've arrived at the right place. These are real bonsai not the mass produced glued in place junipers occasionally seen at the big box stores. Sizes from the little pot that fits in your hand to 24" box specimen. Super cute Cotoneasters with berries. Can't wait to see it in bloom. The one guy there says he's been there for 10 years and does the pruning himself. Don't know how he stays in business with the very reasonable (not cheap) prices. The real thing. This is not a large or a flashy, not a dressed-up place. It is small, tidy; it felt utterly authentic. A place that existed because the owner loved doing what he did and did it very very well. Beautiful trees, great prices, and a fine, understated sense of the art. I had called to ask for some advice about a tree I'd been given, which had survived three years of my negligent ownership. The tree was an opening day gift for our studio, Arnott Kenpo Karate, and it was very important to us. He suggested I bring in the tree, and when I did, he just took over, trimmed it, repotted it in a more appropriate more beautiful tray, put in new screen, lava rocks and soil, added fertilizer, and gave me a box of fertilizer to use myself. He trained down some of the branches with wire, explained what he was doing, and what I needed to do to tend to it. He charged me $15. I truly hesitated to post this review because Eden Bonsai is the sort of place you can treasure as a secret refuge. His prices on the older, larger magnificent trees were much less than I've seen elsewhere, but the man, the owner was the prize. When you experience someone respecting and loving his work like that, it makes your day. I'm looking very much forward to my next visit. read more
