I had no idea what I'm doing, but the staff here are amazing. I learned so much from them. Based on the size of my b pond, they recommended smaller size fish and let me know which fish are the easiest to care for. So far, the fish have been doing well! I also got a few water plants. They were so nice to show me all the different kinds of plants what would work. They let me smell them and that was so cool. My son and I made the drive out to Sunland Water Gardens today because we were hunting for a white water lily for our backyard pond... and this place absolutely exceeded expectations. Fully stocked with everything aquatic you could imagine. Tons of aquatic plants, fish, pond creatures, and just an incredible variety overall. The woman who helped us was a 4th generation family member and you could instantly tell how passionate she is about the business. She basically gave us an encyclopedia's worth of knowledge in 10 minutes and helped us tremendously. Easy parking, great selection, super friendly, and just an awesome family business. My sister and I had a wonderful experience at Sunland water Gardens, due in part to our host/salesman David Gardener. David was an absolute fountain of knowledge. My sister has a fresh water pond. David was ready to discuss everything from filters to plants to fish and turtles. They do turtle rescue and rehoming. Did you know that there is a species of eel that will predict rain. Sun land water gardens is AMAZING. Through unexpected circumstances, I needed to rehome a red eared slider turtle. After searching high and low for a place to surrender the turtle, I found sunland water gardens. The staff was incredibly helpful over the phone and in person, answering all my questions before I even needed to ask them. For just a $10 donation, they provided our turtle with a perfect temporary home and assured us he'd likely be adopted within the week. When we arrived, we were greeted by a kind employee who took in the turtle and immediately showed us where he would reside until adoption, a nice little pond with ample water and basking area. We were offered a chance to bid a last goodbye and take pictures and videos as the turtle was placed into his new home. After that, the turtle quickly slid into the water and started paddling around looking as happy as can be. Though his sojourn with us was temporary, I had become somewhat attached to our reptilian friend, and I am so happy to know he's in such well-equipped and caring hands. After seeing the turtle off, we were warmly welcomed to take our time and look around at their beautiful facilities and stunning plants and animals. The experience had such an impact on me that it sparked a desire to have a pond of my own someday. If and when that day comes, I know the first place I'll go - straight to sunland water gardens! Exceptional and truly compassionate service, beautiful facilities, and though I don't have a pond nor a need to supply it, I feel confident sunland water gardens would have anything and everything you may need for such an endeavor! It's been a minute since I've written a review for Sunland who I've been going to for decades. If they ever close I'll have to demo my pond. I technically go here for plants/products but I really go for advice. I find it hard to find people who Know Things anymore and everyone here does. They have an encyclopedic portfolio of water plants and everything you need for your pond. Nobody rushes you and they're generous and patient w their advice. Plus they'll NEVER oversell you as they make sure you get the right plants for your space and the season. Andy Hurtado helped me today and he gave me a million $ worth of advice. Incredible selection of plants and pond friends, plus such knowledgeable and generous people! My partner and I have been coming for years to stock our container ponds and will definitely be in soon to buy the electric fencing they have to repel raccoons, as well as some more gorgeous goldfish. We were lucky enough to have David come lecture tonight at the San Fernando Valley Iris Society meeting and he was incredible! His info, explanations, and stories were excellent and really made water gardening seem so much more accessible. I'm so pleased work Sunland Water Gardens & its staff. After years of wanting a mini pond for my mini patio (lol) I finally found people that wanted to help. Faustino & Walter installed my new pond & are experts & actually artists! My pond is like a fairy pond -it's only 18 inches wide x 4 feet! If you're trying to build a pond or a water garden (ie: water plants in a container) this is the place!! I chose the hottest weekend in SoCal history to start my water garden. I tried getting plants at the big box stores, but Home Depot had a puny choice, and Lowes had nothing. I ordered a few on Etsy and they sent me little twigs that look like alfalfa sprouts. Not cheap! I drove here on a Labor Day weekend.. all excited to get my water garden plants. Guess what? I didn't bother calling to see if they're..CLOSED FOR LABOR DAY! So why 5 stars? I stood at the fence admiring all the pretties they had. Lilies, Papyrus, Reeds, exactly what I wanted. I don't know how pricey they were but considering I spent over $9 a pop on twigs and sprouts, I'd gladly pay more for some decent size plants to put in my container. read more

I decided that my (hot, dry, dusty) yard and seating area needed a water garden, but ultimately, trying to figure out the best options online just got confusing, since I eventually want to add some small fish. I was already planning to come here for plants, but figured I'd ask their advice. I couldn't have been more pleased. David G. helped me out, providing good advice on pumps and filters, water cycling and additives, recommending a local shop for other possible containers (I went boring with just a barrel liner, but we'll see what my future holds) and then absolutely above and beyond in selecting a gorgeous, healthy Black Magic taro, some bright green floating plants, and a tropical water lily. It came together in a flash (wish my beds were so easy!), and the water lily bloomed last night. The shop itself was stocked, the koi were absolutely lovely to watch, and if you ever thought you might want a little pond for your deck, I couldn't recommend them enough. Thanks! read more

The staff is very knowledgeable of their trade. The koi are treated like family and it's apparent by the health conditions in which the koi are kept. The place had extensive pond plants for all types of sun exposure and pond depths. There was not a mosquito in sight in this hot humid day, which tells me the grounds are well-managed and no standing water breeds pests. The staff member helped me separate plants and gave detailed instructions on how to keep the plants flourishing. I plant to return and get advice on pond filter media and buy another koi. read more
