Decided to walk to Sol Agave after visiting the pier. When we arrived, it was pretty empty so we sat at the bar. All the staff were friendly, server was great and the bartender made amazing drinks. I absolutely loved the blackberry cocktail they had. Food was delicious. I had the tampiqueña. Which was a skirt steak on top of a chicken quesadilla. Amazing. Meat was flavorful and tender. It came with this green soup, jalapeño cream soup. I have never tasted anything like it!!! Sooooo goooood. Chiles rellenos were also delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambience was nice, a bit dark so for us older people who need glasses it was a little hard to read the menu.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All in all, will definitely make the 40 minute drive to go back.

We visited this location as my friend invited us and had tried it at a different city. We came during happy hour and Sebastian helped us. He was friendly, patient and professional. With the happy hour options we were able to try a variety of foods. We had the ceviche, the ribs, the pork belly and the taco. 10 out of 10 for all. We also had a beer and a margarita flight 10 out of 10 as well.

Sat at the bar for a drink after spending some time on the beach. Felix greeted us with friendly energy and was super attentive. I got the skinny margarita which was really good and so was the chips and salsa. My friend had the pork belly bites which were delicious, and of course, Felix came by to make sure everything was going smoothly. Everything about this experience was great so when you go in, make sure to ask for Felix!

The food here was so delicious. We were sat really quickly our party to 3. The staff was super friendly. The manager was on it. I will say our server was lacking. He never came back to our table once the food was delivered. That was the only annoyance. Other than that I would come again. The portion sizes were a good size and very flavorful

Had an great dinner at Sol Agave in Santa Monica. I grabbed a burrito and my girlfriend ordered the lamb, and both dishes were legit fire. My burrito was packed, super flavorful, and didn't fall apart halfway through (rare!). The lamb was tender, rich, and honestly one of the standout items of the night. For dessert we split the butter cake and the tres leches, and both were ridiculous. The butter cake was warm, soft, and crazy good, and the tres leches was probably the best I've had in LA -- super moist without being soggy and just the right amount of sweetness. The vibe was great, service was on point, and it felt like one of those spots you just end up coming back to without planning it. Definitely recommend.

On Halloween day, my significant other and I had friends visiting from out of the country. We met for an afternoon in Santa Monica and we had a little more time to spend together. I suggested seeing if we could grab a drink at Sol Agave. Very happy that we stopped by. It was mid-afternoon and happy hour time. The bar was relatively empty, and we let the host know we were only going to get drinks, but he allowed us to sit in the patio area AND order from the happy hour menu. We really appreciated it. The customer service was friendly and prompt. I think that since it was Halloween afternoon, it may have been a little less crowded that a normal Friday happy hour. The restaurant was comfortable and not loud at the time we were there. We enjoyed our drinks and the complimentary chips with salsa and bean dip. The chips were super fresh and delicious. Loved the visit, and I look forward to going back again for a full meal in the near future.

I was going for a walk in the area and trying to get some exercise. I happen to be walking by Soule agave restaurant and I walked in at 2 PM sharp and I asked what time is the happy hour start? I was lucky it starts at 2 PM and goes till 6 PM. I ordered the mixed ceviche with octopus fish and shrimp. I felt it was generous portion and very good quality. I would definitely come back in the future.

This place is located on ocean Ave in the heart of Santa Monica across from the beach. Very nice spot and everyone was super friendly. Our group was greeted right away. We had reservations but arrived about 25 mins early and they still seated us once we checked in. (I was glad that we did not have to wait). Our server was really nice and checked in on our table to make sure we were ok and didn't need anything. This place is cute inside with indoor and out door seating, tables (high and low), booths and a full bar. I ordered the filet enchiladas. Unfortunately my food was cold so I did not enjoy them and took most of it home to heat up. (Heating up leftovers might not be as good). I'm sure they would have been good if served at the right temperature. I did dine here on Mother's Day so maybe that's why the food was cold. Next time, I will come on a regular day when it's not so busy and give it another try.

My friend and I just happened to be hungry and in the area so we decided to try something new! Roses: - The food was yummy! I got a Sol Agave Bowl (with steak/no avocado) and a spicy mango margarita (so YUM and actually spicy!) - Our waitress was nice, and I liked that they kept filling up my water (I drink a lot of water) - Walked in on a Thursday night, no reservation needed Thorns: - Careful where you park, one of the lots they validate for, but the one I parked in they don't - Wish we got a refill on the chips! - "B" health score Overall a solid, spontaneous dinner spot or good for date night! I'd love to come back and enjoy their patio on a warm summer day.

Bad: Mango old fashioned was too sweet, couldn't taste the tequila. Enchilada tortilla was puffy, its not the typical thin "Al Dente" tortilla. Good: Cucumber margarita is the best ever. Waiter was spot on and excellent service. Seating is not crammed with wide spaces in between tables to have private conversations. read more

Was super lazy after biking all day and decided to walk across the street from JW Santa Monica to check this place out... wow! The food, service and ambiance were all fantastic. Friendly staff from moment we walked in for our reservation and the food was so delicious, I got the Filet Mignon Enchiladas and my mom got the Lobster Enchiladas... both were so flavorful! The pieces of meat for Filet Mignon were so juicy and tender, plus the sauce that goes with complements the perfectly cooked shrimps . We also both ordered the Margarita Flight... not going to lie I was definitely tipsy after, my favorite was a toss between the Mango, Watermelon and Orange. The food was good but i can not say that it is any better or worth then other Mexican restaurant we been eating at. Service was OK, again no complains but regular service nothing to brags about everyone was just doing their job. The issue was the loud music, the echo and the volume at the restaurant made it impossible to have a conversation, we cut the evening with our friends short and went home read more

We came here as a large group for a biz lunch. Most of us ordered the Sol Agave bowl with differing proteins - I got mine with carnitas and it was a perfect amount of food for lunch. The bowl had a very generous amount of carnitas. The carnitas were sadly a bit bland and the service was definitely on the slow side - even on a not very busy mid-week lunch time. We didn't get cocktails - but I would love to come back for happy hour - the decor is really lovely. And the bathrooms are HUGE and very clean too - you can literally have a party in there lol read more

Service and ambiance are great. 5 stars. The drinks are 3 stars, especially the flights. Mimosa uses extremely cheap champagne. And the food $68 plate for two is a 3 star affair as well. Overall disappointing. Two tortillas total for two people in a fajita style plate? How many corners are you cutting to survive inflation and Covid? A few too many. Chips and salsa were the best. Went downhill from there. read more

We celebrated our wedding anniversary starting with breakfast / brunch at Sol Agave. Service was truly amazing. Juan, our server, was the kindest and most attentive server I have ever had in Santa Monica! We also got to meet the Chef, R Navarro, who took time to say hello and asked how we liked the food. Awesome chips salsa & beans to start. My husband had a tasty El Americano breakfast. I had the wonderful Mole Enchilada and pork tacos. For dessert, I had the spicy Margarita. It was by far, one of the best Margaritas I have had! In summary, restaurant was beautiful and the ambiance was great. You have choice of inside or patio dining. The service was amazing and delivered with a personal touch. The food was fantastic. Would definitely recommend stopping by. Can't wait to go back! read more

Enjoyed a family dinner at Sol Agave while in Santa Monica for an event. Not many restaurants would accept a reservation for 10, but Sol Agave was happy to accommodate us. The menu is varied enough to ensure everyone gets what they want. Service was very good. My cocktail, the Watermelon Basil Margarita was yummy. A few at the table weren't crazy about their drinks. The food arrived quickly. Fresh ingredients, flavorful. The atmosphere is quite nice. I'd definitely recommend this for a group gathering. read more

Came here in October and it was pretty good. The taste quality and color were all appetizing. Their spicy margarita is actually spicy. Our group had a great time. Maybe 10 min walk from the pier and the restaurant was nicely decorated as well. I think they gave us some chips salsa and bean salsa which were delicious. Everyone left happy! read more

Fantastically delicious. Listen. My tastebuds haven't been awakened like this in years. Everything is so delicious I couldn't stop eating. The shrimp ceviche has an ABUNDANCE of protein with the perfect balance of acid and pickled vegetables. Utterly phenomenal. I managed to eat half of my salmon salad which was the perfect sized salad; the combination of salmon with all the fruit and pecans are just divine. The atmosphere is stunning, attire being cute-casual. The music isn't too loud. All around amazing ambiance. Lastly, thank you to my server Wilbur. Such a decent place, everything is really cool: food, ambience, service (Thank you Manny- great guy). Prices are completely commensurate with the level this restaurant provides. Even when everything else around is super booked you will probably find a table here and get a great service. Definitely will be back. The pulpo (octopus) appetizer is a must. And the spicy Paloma- best one!! read more

We had dinner here after half a day at Santa Monica Pier. The service was great. Same for the food. One small remark regarding the octopus: the sauce used on the octopus was to overpowering. But the octopus itself was cocked on point! The only restaurant we could find nearest to the Pier that closed later than 9PM. They close at 10PM. We got caught off guard as we were visiting from VA, and in our area we're used to kitchens closing around 11PM.... read more

Drinks are decent , i ordered the steak . Usually when I order steak I get medium rare but it was so chewy! Tried my auntie's well done & hers was ok , kind of tough. Not worth the price . Not to mention the chips were stale & nasty , asked for new ones they were pretty much the same . I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone read more

The chips were delicious and service good. Food was awful. The queso cazuela was a weird bean dip not queso fundido. The chipotle chicken was basically a mayonnaise sauce. The mahi mahi was super fishy and dry and the chicken tortilla soup tasted mostly of black pepper as if they'd mistakenly dumped the pepper in it. Margarita flight was super sweet. I usually don't leave bad reviews but this did not live up to its 4 stars or hefty price tag. . Wanted others to be warned. read more

WOW! Just WOW! This food is out of this world. It really is. It was our first time here and I promise we'll be back. It was that good. First-The location is like a block away from the beach in Santa Monica. Away from all the hustle and bustle of the pier and the promenade. The restaurant itself is beautiful. It really is romantic but still a nice family spot. It has a lot of seating, both indoor and outdoor, even on a chilly night near the ocean it has heaters to keep you warm. This is a perfect date spot. Second-The food is out of this world! Holy crap was it good. We started off with some drinks. I got a classic old fashioned, my wife got the tequila blackberry (really good) her cousin got a spicy strawberry margarita and her boyfriend got a modelo. For apps we got bacon wrapped jalapeños (Highly Recommend) and guacamole sampler which was perfect with the chips and salsa you get at the table. For our meals I got the Chile Colorado (short ribs) and it was mouth watering good and huge portion size. My wife got tacos Del Mar and they looked phenomenal. Her cousin got the Sol Agave Salad. (This looked delicious) and her boyfriend got the rack of lamb (get this I promise you won't be disappointed) and everything was perfectly cooked. This place is a gem. I will definitely be back and I HIGHLY recommend you go to! read more

I really wanted to like this place--unfortunately the service was really slow and there was almost nothing I could eat as a vegetarian (I probably should have looked more closely). The drinks were okay, but even the queso had meat in it (which it didn't say on the menu), so the rest of the table at that while I munched on tortilla chips. We ended up going somewhere else for dinner after we finished our drinks here. read more

Hands down the best Mexican we have had in the 50 years we have been on this planet. Fresh, experimental ingredients, the menu was truly fusion with lots of "oh and awe" moments, all of the staff were sharp and attentive., the margaritas are hands down a contender for the top 3 we have had (we've had a lot folks) and the ambiance was electric. We walked away saying to ourselves this was by far the best Mexican food experience we have ever had. Bravo to the owners, management, and staff for truly killing it. read more

Loved it! Just happen to walk past is, heading back to the car and saw they had the football game on so we went in. Nice atmosphere, restroom was clean. Fabian our server was awesome. He brought salsa, chips and a little side of beans. First thumbs up, seeing that the beans had Mexican cheese on top! (not cheddar) Salsa was tasty and the beans passed the test~ We ordered the taco sampler, which had 1ea Steak, shrimp, carnitas & chicken taco. I was able to make 2 of each so my sister and I tried them all and they were very very tasty~! We enjoyed very much! We had 2 cold Modelos with our meal, served nice and cold. I was curious about desserts. We asked and he brought the menu, which we decided on the Tres Leche cake, which was also very good. Fresh roasted marshmallows... YUMMM and Mexican chocolate sprinkled on top of the whipped cream..(not sure if that's what it is..but very nice touch) Definitely will go back and try another dish~ read more

We walked in right after they opened. So our service was excellent since we were the only people there to start. The watermelon basil margarita might have been one of the best margaritas I have ever had! We split the street tacos and the ceviche because we werent super hungry. The portions were more than we were expecting, but we ate every last bite since it was that good. This place was truly a find and I will be returning next time in Santa Monica. read more

Our Saturday Date Night couldn't have been any better! From the moment we walked in with reservations we made through Yelp, we were kindly greeted by Manager Juan. We took a seat at the really nice bar & enjoyed a Raspberry Chipotle margarita & a Long Island iced tea while our table was ready. Both were absolutely amazing! We got to see all the employees in action & the great vibe throughout the restaurant. Loved the upbeat music. We especially noticed Manager Liz working hard with a great attitude while making everything needed for their popular & refreshing margarita flights. From blending a fresh watermelon to adding fresh cucumbers and agave, to so much more that make up the perfect flavors! Our table was ready promptly & we had a perfect view of both the restaurant & Ocean Avenue. Fresh chips & yummy salsa w beans quickly followed. Next I ordered a watermelon margarita which was also top notch! The green, red & mole chicken enchiladas were amazing! White rice was perfect w corn & so were the pinto & black beans. Our server Francisco was very pleasant & answered all our questions about the large menu. He checked on us frequently making sure our dinner was perfect & that our drinks were always enough. Liz stopped by to also make sure everything was great! At the end I had the pleasure of meeting the chef and couldn't thank him enough for such a flavorful dinner! We live over an hour away but we already can't wait to go back & are already planning a weekend in Santa Monica which will definitely include Sol Agave! The waitress seemed very flustered and kept mentioning that our group was not expected. We started off with drinks -- I got a strawberry lemon tart -- it was good but the strawberries were a bit too chunky for a cocktail (IMO). Some people received their drinks in a plastic glass -- I guess because it was near the pool? We ordered a number of appetizers and then our mains. The waitress wasn't sure about us even ordering a main -- it made me wonder if they actually had enough of the dishes in the kitchen. Apps were good but nothing amazing. I got the sea bass for the main and it had no spice or flavor to it -- it even had these little dollups of romesco sauce that was also flavorless. The waitress did give him a free drink for his patience. Also my other coworker told me the lobster roll was terrible and made her stomach hurt the next day. Just want to clarify from the get-go, we went there Friday night at 9pm, with a reservation. We fully expected it to be busy and had no issue with that. We waited a couple of minutes for our table to he ready, were seated, and asked what we would like to drink. We ordered waters and 2 flights of margaritas along with a the guacamole sampler. 5 min later, they brought chips. 10 min after that, the guac.. they didn't bring any chips with it, and the handful of chips that came with the salsa didn't last long for 3 people, so we didn't really touch the guac. We then waited for a total of 20 minutes after being seated for our waters to come, along with the margaritas, and to place our order for food. We couldn't find our server at all during this time, and the chips and guac were dropped so fast at our table by other people I guess they couldn't hear us say excuse me could our server come around? After we had placed the order, it was a normal wait for food for a Friday, no complaints, but they didn't bring all of it. For instance, my meal was supposed to be asada with flour tortillas, rice and beans- but I didn't get those sides. Again, someone else brought the food, our server was no where to be found. In an hour we had seen him twice (once when we were sat, 20 min later to place the order). We spent a total of $180 there and left a $40 tip, but we won't be back due to the service. This isn't an Applebee's, if people are paying a higher dollar for food the service should be at least decent, the people should be friendly, ask if you need anything etc. read more

We decided to sample a variety of dishes, including the Guacamole Sampler, Sol Agave Para Dos, Carnitas Taco Chicken Enchilada, and the Pulpo a las Brasas. The food was a real highlight. I had one of the most frustrating dining experiences I can remember at this restaurant. From the moment we sat down, the service was painfully slow--so slow that it didn't feel accidental. Tables that surrounded us were served first, while we waited an unreasonable amount of time just to get water, let alone place an order. It genuinely felt like we were being ignored on purpose. What made the experience even worse was the clear sense of ageism. The server was noticeably more attentive, friendly, and responsive to younger customers, while treating us with a sarcastic smile that made it feel intentional. To add to the frustration, the appetizer arrived before the drinks--which, in fact, never arrived at all. After waiting long enough, we gave up and asked for the bill, only to find that the drinks had been charged anyway. I had to point it out and say, "The drinks never came, and that's why we are leaving." He didn't respond at all--not even a simple apology. I visited Sol Agave in Santa Monica, and I was not disappointed. We started with a few appetizers, and they were all amazing. The pork belly tacos were very tasty and flavorful. The shrimp taquitos were also great. The shrimp was tasty, and the sauce drizzle on top was perfect. The queso fundido casuela with Chorizo had just the right amount of spice. Last but not least, the grilled octopus was cooked to perfection, the flavors were amazing, and it's a must try. For the main course, I had the Chipotle Bbq Baby Back Ribs. The meat was tender and sliding off the bone. The sauce had a little kick, but not to overpowering. They were served with corn on the cob and some fries. I would definitely have this again. Overall, the ambiance and service were great. The place was beautiful and one of my new favorite restaurants. If you are ever in Santa Monica, you should definitely give this place a try. read more

On Friday, I went to the restaurant as usual. The food was excellent, as always, but this time a young woman named Rita served us. Never in all the years I've lived in the United States have I encountered such a discriminatory, despotic, and rude person. People like her should definitely be removed immediately from such a good place, because I never intend to return. She's a racist and offended everyone at the table. As I mentioned, I've been to this restaurant several times, and this time I decided to bring some relatives who had just arrived, thinking we'd have a good time together. But this woman's attitude, combined with her ineptitude in handling our orders, made my evening a nightmare. We had such a wonderful experience at Sol Agave LA Live, and a huge part of that was thanks to our waiter, Kevin. He was absolutely amazing--attentive, kind, and genuinely invested in making sure we had a great time. Kevin took the time to explain ingredients, allergies, and recommendations with so much care. He kept us updated on our food, checked in often without ever being intrusive, and made sure everything came out perfectly. You can tell he really takes pride in his service. The atmosphere here is beautiful, the food is delicious, and the drinks are fantastic. The bartenders also deserve a shout‑out--they know what they're doing. Food is overpriced. 4 taco appetizer was meh. Meat was very dry. Service was AWFUL. Went there on a Saturday night at 7:30pm just for some apps and a drink. Place wasn't busy at all. Got sat down immediately and was given free chips and salsa. At least they did that for us because we waited 15 minutes before the hostess finally approached us about having no waiter. After about an hour we finally got our apps but of course they forgot one. So we had to reorder it. Another hour later we finally got it. Took them a whole hour to cook 3 pieces of filet (sugar cane filet on the menu.) Pretty disappointing experience. And no, they weren't short on staff. I went to this restaurant with my daughter and a friend and her daughter. The waiter that first greeted us was rude. Soon after some white people came in and they were greeted right away and helped. By the time they came to help us the people that came in after us were already getting their food! The most disappointing thing was that these employees were Latinos and truly were racist against their own!! I'm a proud latina. what a shame. The employee took my payment and never brought me my change back I'm not sure if he assumed the change was his tip! I didn't say anything because we were with Kids trying to have a good lunch. Came to Sol Agave for an employee luncheon and had a great experience. Service was on point--attentive without being overbearing, and everything came out in a timely manner. I ordered the chicken fajitas with rice and beans. The chicken was tender and well-seasoned, and the peppers and onions were cooked just right. The rice and beans were solid, and the salsa had a nice kick with great flavor--not too spicy, just balanced. Also had the cucumber cilantro margarita--super refreshing and definitely strong. Table of 20 Gets Absolute Priority Over Table of 2. Long story short: A party of 20 people who arrived 30 minutes later than my party of 2 was served their food prior to my party of 2. Oh and the kicker - the massive party ordered the same shit we did. When the restaurant staff failed to get us our order they then blamed the chefs for my lamb being over cooked (needless to say they forgot it entirely, as nothing was refired). Our waiter, upon being called over to the table, also asked: "do you want the bill?" Apparently he forgot he took our order. Sad to say I won't be back once my gift card is up. The food was fine, and our server Diego was good, but the experience was completely overshadowed when a cockroach ran across our table. The real problem was the manager, Luis. Luis refused to offer any compensation, wouldn't apologize, and was dismissive about the situation. To make matters worse, I personally saw him sneaking a shot behind the bar while we were still dining. Overall, it was an unprofessional and disappointing experience. Lastly, bathroom is very dirty as well. Until management changes, I'd recommend choosing another spot in Santa Monica where cleanliness and customer service are taken seriously. read more

I went with a group of friends and we sat at the first table at the entrance.. we work in the hospitality industry so we know what kind of service should be provided, especially at an establishment like this. Service wasn't there. Our server looked over it when he reached the table. Not even a hello, how are you, or even a is it our first time here? Which it was. He came up to the table and said "Are we ready or do we have questions?" In the most monotone voice. Your staff definitely needs more training. We had a reservation for 14 and somehow they lost it (even though someone called to confirm the day before) -- so they had to quickly set up a table for 14 which they clearly did not do that often -- it was all squished between plants and heaters. After waiting 10+ minutes we were finally seated. Right away we noticed that the menus were different, not drastically but enough to cause some confusion. The waitress seemed very flustered and kept mentioning that our group was not expected. We started off with drinks -- I got a strawberry lemon tart -- it was good but the strawberries were a bit too chunky for a cocktail (IMO). Some people received their drinks in a plastic glass -- I guess because it was near the pool? We ordered a number of appetizers and then our mains. The waitress wasn't sure about us even ordering a main -- it made me wonder if they actually had enough of the dishes in the kitchen. Apps were good but nothing amazing. I got the sea bass for the main and it had no spice or flavor to it -- it even had these little dollups of romesco sauce that was also flavorless. Several people at the table ordered the filet mignon -- the only beef course on the menu and one of the plates came out at least 10 minutes after everyone else received their meals. The waitress did give him a free drink for his patience. Also my other coworker told me the lobster roll was terrible and made her stomach hurt the next day. Overall I was not impressed and will not likely return for a dinner here.
