The staff here are so client-centered and personable. Scheduling is so flexible and the quality is unmatched! Brooke is my hairstylist, but sadly she is moving out of state, and Tasha is the best in the game at all things nails! I've been going to Paula for my monthly waxes for almost a year and I highly recommend her. She's reliable, fast, and gets the job done. I love that she sends reminder texts for your upcoming appointment. Her prices are very reasonable, I buy her package deal (6 waxes for $200). I'm never in there too long but while I'm there we always have nice conversations. Sol Cura is located inside of a hair/nail salon and the stylist are always nice when I'm there. It's never crowded and I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes for Paula. Her room is clean and pleasant, and she always has good music playing. The woman who did the wax was very nice, and she knew what she was doing. The woman who runs the place did not - she refused to take my Groupon because I was a man, despite the fact that I called and asked her before the appointment if the "brazilian" Groupon works for men, and she told me it does. She would not even let me use the women's Groupon I had bought and pay the price difference between the men's and women's Brazilian. She told me if I didn't pay the full $95 she would call the police, and then asked for my ID because she said she "needed it for Groupon" It's crazy how a business owner can be this narrow minded when it comes to customers. Paula is fast! She's also very reliable. She's never cancelled on me and she's even penciled me in for a last minute appointment. Like most other reviewers, I found her on Groupon. You're only allowed to buy her Groupon once, but after going to Paula, you won't want to go to anyone else. She also sends reminder texts the day before your appointment. I am only giving one star because the shaping was good. This is the absolute worst customer treatment I've experienced. Their website is undated, leading me to the incorrect location. I was told that I was notified through text messages about it, but there should be more updates online through the business on their website. It's misleading and harmful to a positive customer experience. There is a deposit fee to pay to secure your appointment, so I called to ask about a refund policy since there was no mention of it online on the website. The worker on the phone seemed taken aback and immediately denied that they do any refunds. I was skeptical but still decided to go through with making an appointment since I'd seen high ratings for this place. This was my first time getting an eyebrow wax done in the area. As soon as they were ready for me, Paula took me back to this dark waxing room. She immediately asked me if I called the other day, and started to reprimand me like a child. I am younger (attending school in the area), so this is what I believe lead her to think she could treat me as such. She called me extremely rude and disrespectful and told me that if I were to ask and call about a refund policy anywhere else in the area that they would instantly turn me away. It left me stunned that a business owner would treat any customer, let alone a first-time customer like this. I have worked in hospitality services, and it absolutely blew my mind that Paula thought she could get away with treating a customer like this. I will actively keep people away from this place in hopes they don't get treated as such. Absolutely no professionalism or matureness, if you do not have a policy listed on your website, expect to have customers asking about it. Also, my skin was burned after, not sure if this was intentional on Paula's behalf or not. Definitely will not call to ask about a refund since I know I will be turned away. I found this place through Groupon - normal price for a Brazilian is $35 (30 for students!!) - and it was for $19.50, honestly the most incredible deal. Finding the place was a bit tricky because Google Maps had me stop right in front of Perlis when it's much further down. It is in a small house so there is a cozy vibe going on there. As for the wax, Paula was very professional and efficient. There is no double dipping and she was pretty quick! I was there at noon and out by 12:20! Only thing I would recommend is to get a speaker/iHome/Google Home - she was playing music off of her home so it lost some of the professional touch there. Other than that, I DEFINITELY plan on returning here. I'm used to paying way more for a Brazilian so can I get a hell yeah for getting to pay $30 from now on?! read more

This is a good place to go if you want an affordable wax. I went to her twice for my first and second Brazilian. First time was pretty traumatic, she didn't trim me and I thought she got annoyed with me because I was very obviously uncomfortable. Very nice results though. Second time was not as precise, I was still very stubbly and she told me it will basically always happen.. which I don't think is true. But all in all she's good at what she does but i would rather pay a little bit more for better results. This was a gift from my daughter. I knew I was possibly going to be late so I called Paula. I told her I might be @ 5 minutes late. She chuckled and said no problem. I arrived 8 minutes late and she refused to honor my appointment. If that wasn't bad enough she did it in front of other customers. I asked why didn't you tell me that when I called?! No answer. Why didn't you call me at the 5 minute mark and tell me I'd have to reschedule?! No she waited until I came in the salon to cancel. To add insult to injury I guess I wasn't supposed to ask if she was an independent tech or working for the salon because I was then ushered out by some tall 'male' that works there. I didn't feel welcomed at all (to be frank, I felt discriminated against from the moment I walked through the door) Such a HORRIBLE PLACE!!! Owner (PAULA) has a horrible attitude. She didn't want to acknowledge my Groupon even though I was a 1st time customer! I drove about 20-25 minutes to get here. I was on time, I signed my waiver, which took all of 2minutes and my "time had expired." Paula told me that I'd have to either come back (rebook & pay, after signing my waiver already) bc she had another customer booked right after me! After telling her that my time was still credible bc if she had started the process of being waived IMMEDIATELY when I walked through the door, instead of her having a stink attitude & asking so many questions, basically harassing me about if I'd been there before (which she was "sure of" ; I guess this is her way of saying all black women look alike), we'd be already starting the waxing. I even threatened a refund from Groupon after this terrible experience, only then did she agree to wax me. Afterwards, I was iffy about letting her even wax me. Still, I got my wax but it was terrible (maybe bc she really didn't want to do it) DO NOT GO HERE!!! WORST PLACE IN THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS. DO NOT PATRONIZE! If I could give this place a negative 1000, I would. I bought a Groupon for Paula around the end of June, for a Friday date at 3:00 pm. The Vagaro system is horrenous for fostering connection between the client and the provider, because I put an extended note on the optional page when I placed my appointment SUNDAY asking if I could arrive 15 minutes later after work and if not, to contact me back so that I could reschedule. I called at 3:08pm on Friday to ask if she had read the note and was still anticipating my arrival. She said that I would have to pay a 50% cancellation fee because it wasn't 24 hour notice. I understood and rescheduled. What makes me fuming is that I had an appointment for today, Thursday July 11th, and because of the horrible thunderstorm I was not able to make it. I called about 23 hours before the appointment and WAS STILL CHARGED A LATE FEE. Where is the grace and understanding for circumstances. I was able to cancel a nail appointment at a local nail salon for the same day for no charges. While Paula may be an experienced professional, I do not recommend ANY temporary residents to choose this service, Groupon or otherwise. You are much better off paying full price at a salon that has just as experienced professionals and is much more flexible and accessible with their appointments. read more

I've been getting Brazilians by the same esthetician for about 5 years now, but after my experience here I think it's safe to say I won't be going back to strip waxing. Great waxing experience with Paula. She was efficient and sensitive to my needs. She shares building space with a barber, etc. so don't be confused when you walk in - you're in the right place! However, she has her own little room for her services. It was light, bright, and decorated nicely. She offers a mirror at the end to check over her work which I thought was a nice touch! I am very happy! She did a great job! I have very thick hair and made sure to exfoliate to prevent ingrown hairs. She even asked midway through how I was doing and if I can now tell the difference between the two. She blew my mind when she pulled out the tweezers to check for any left over hairs. It's a nice clean space. Zoe did a good job of making the experience of getting a Brazilian as painless and quick as possible. I would give 5 stars for my first visit but my second deserves 2. The first time I got a Brazilian here I hadn't gotten one in well over 6 months so I was very sensitive and she made me feel comfortable and she got me baby smooth. The second time I went it was practically painless however she left a significant amount of hair on the pelvis area. It looks like week 2 of the previous wax the same day.
