Hands down my favorite bakery! The quesitos are packed with cream cheese and so flaky and tasty, I love them! The pastellitos de guayaba are also so yummy and stuffed with filling unlike some of these other places which are just puff pastry. You really can't go wrong with the variety of desserts from here, the budín, the flan, the tembleque, sugar donuts, orejitas, you name it they are delicious! I recently ordered miniatures from here for my nieces sweet 15 and everyone went crazy for them. Service is good. Most of the staff speaks Spanish but they always try and are very pleasant. Ambience is ok, the front entrance due to its location you always have your beggers hanging out asking for money but just ignore them and you'll be fine. The back entrance could use more lighting in the hallway, and the ceiling definitely needs some attention from that leak and bucket but if you'd like to avoid the beggers and hate parallel parking then park in the back. read more

Terrible ordered 2 Tripletas with everything on it lettuce tomato onion and pan sobao and they came plain with ketchup and none of the condiments I ordered then went home and it was too late on top of that the wait is long and the atmosphere and location are horrible then the sandwiches are tiny. Biggest waste of money go to the better one in New Britain Ct where they actually give your moneys worth and are organized, the atmosphere there is also better they are called Borinquen bakery this bakery is a shell of itself and not worth it. The line was long, but that's not unusual for Hartford's known Puerto Rican bakery on park street. I've been going to this bakery since I was a small child, and fun fact they used to be on Broad street yearssss ago but because of a lot of hot activity, they moved their location from b Broad to Park. They have all kinds of traditional Puerto Rican pastries. Today, I was in the mood to buy donuts and a a loaf of bread, sobao, which is a sweeter and softer bread with butter for my job. The only reason why I gave them 4 stars is because I believe they need to have more than 2 people in the front to attend customers. The line was super long, and I thought was going to make it late to my job, but I made it. Pastries definitely get a 10/10 in my book, whatever it is that they are doing as far as the food they should keep doing it. The ambiance is average. But the service is below average, I came by to purchase a dozen donuts and received 11, went back an explained to them and Patricia took one of the donuts out and add a chocolate in there but I didn't realize until after the fact. I ended up leaving and checking before I went home and notice I still had only 11 I called and explained and the guy told me no problem come and we'll give you the missing donut. Went back and the other lady upfront instead of providing service she sent me back to Patricia. Knowing she missed count she started giving me attitude and aggressively push the donut off to me... crazy thing everyone loved the donuts at the party but the service given because of a issue on their end was inappropriate... You guys need people with good customer service, that understands English because all kind of ethnicity shows support to this business. This spot became a regular for me weekly when picking up fresh bakery for the nicu nurses who took care of my son. I've always gotten the Cinnabon's and guava pastries and it's always been a hit! Whatever icing or cream cheese they put on the Cinnabon is delicious! The prices are not bad for fresh bakery! I would suggest this place to everyone I know. I stopped in yesterday and thought I'd get a Pernil Sandwich ( Roast Pork Sandwich). I haven't had one since last summer and thought I'd get one from a place recommended by a co-worker. I've eaten Pernil most of my life. Let's just say I'm over 50 years old. That's a lot of Pernil. I've also learned to oven roast it the old school Puerto Rican way by my parents. I've even smoked them on a Pellet Smoker Grill. I ordered 2 Pernil Sandwiches with lettuce ,tomatoes, Mayo ketchup and cheese on Spanish loaf. I don't usually write reviews. Let's just say that this was the worst Pernil I've ever eaten. The Pernil was bland,, dried and hard as if it were left overs . The texture was so bad it just wasn't something I could enjoy eating beyond the 2 bites. Then too top it off I paid just over $16.00 for them. The bakery has taken so many steps back. I enjoyed getting a nice ham and cheese sandwich with a coffee but I don't anymore. The coffee is disgusting, I grew up going to Puerto Rican Bakeries in the Bronx, NY where they had milk warmed up or steamed milk. After seeing employees use a microwave to heat milk and then they don't even stir the coffee after putting sugar in it. The ham and cheese sandwiches suffer because they are made with leas ham than before. Also they want to charge a fee for using a debit card?? We are still in a pandemic and they dare charge a fee for that? WTF? I like buying the muffins and they never have enough. On four different occasions the ham and cheese sandwich disappointed me. So I went back more than once to see if it was just a bad day but it's not. So please if you enjoy coffee don't go there unless you like microbes coffee? That's not a real Puerto Rican way of doing coffee. Truly sad and they lost a customer. read more

Excellent bakery on Park Street! When I lived in CT, I had gone to other bakeries in the area, but not this one. What a pity that I can only go whenever I make my pilgrimages home. Got a papa rellena (usually called relleno de papa by true boricuas) and tres leches cake. I quickly ate my stuffed potato ball as I pulled out of my space on the side of the street. Glorious! It must have been because I arrived at 7 am, because the outer breading was amazingly crispy and not greasy. The mashed potatoes were fluffy and and provided the perfect background for the inner treat of seasoned ground beef. Simply delicious. Criolla cooking at its very best. Tres leches was consumed before 8 am this morning as well. It was well made, but since I also make tres leches, I typically prefer a less sweet milk bath for the cake. The frosting is a merengue one, rather than whipped cream (which I don't like as much, though I recognize that it is usually the Latin Caribbean adornment for this dessert). Ladies, if you are frightened by catcalls, maybe going in the morning is the ideal time. Mostly middle-aged men in the area, though my experience was that they were polite (maybe extra nice because of my magenta leggins, knee-high boots, and leopard print scarf?) but not dirty and did not say/do anything to make me feel uncomfortable or in danger. Expand your horizons and start your day with Sol de Boriquen. That is exactly what I did today and already my day is starting out marvelously. read more

Great place for cheap sandwiches. I ordered the Cubano, tripleta and Cannoli. Let's get it out the way, the Cannoli sucked - dry with a stale shell - makes sense NO Italian pastry should be bought at a Latin pastry shop. lol. The sandwiches? Magnifico! Yummy! The tripleta had pulled pork, ham and cheese and the works. - it was melt in my mouth the Cuban was simple, even though it lacked the components of a real Cuban sandwich, it was still a tasty one. Legendary cubano sandwiches from a legendary bakery. My "go-to" place for authentic Latino-Caribbean bakery faire on the south side of Hartford. I've had Sol De Borinquen's cubanos hot, cold, for lunch, for breakfast, for dinner and for no reason at all. Even after moving out of the city, I still stop in from time to time. Highly recommended. Like Diana mentioned above, the value for the money is exceptional. If all bakeries were held to the standard of enjoyment-per-dollar produced by Sol De Borinquen, they would be out of business. read more

Great place for sandwiches with an impressive spread of bakery goods. They also make fresh bread, which looks delicious. I went here to get a sandwich, and ended up with the cubanito, which was absolutely EPIC. The bread was crispy and panini-pressed thin, and the meat was great as well. Definitely a great neighborhood spot, no seating, so get a sandwich or sweet treat and take a stroll down Park Street. Also, brush up on your spanish before visiting: all signs and menu items are in spanish and most patrons order in spanish. Also...the prices...SO CHEAP! Amazing. While visiting Hartford, my friend and I went in search for a bakery on Sunday. We stumbled across this place and oh so happy we did!! There is a line almost out the door and everything is pretty much ordered in Spanish, but don't worry.. I'd you don't speak Spanish there are folks that can help. We ordered 2 Cubano sandwiches , 1 bistec , 1 tres leeches and 2 rellenos de papas..(potatoes with meat). For 3 people this was perfect and the good was authentic and fabulous! Sol De Borinquen found me in 2017 when I was working temporarily on Park Street. I don't speak Spanish, I'm really pale. I do wear a smile wherever I go, which seems to help. I ordered the Crisolisimo sandwich off the specials board it was served on Puerto Rican bread that was toasted after being stuffed with pernil - pulled pork, ham was added, cheese was added. It was the best thing I had ever tasted in my life. Heart clogging goodness. I have returned ten times since the first time. Piece of advice to the owners of this establishment. Not everyone who walks in your place holds an EBT card, a little more respect should be delivered from your staff, even though your primary demographics are Hispanics. I walked in, placed my order and to my surprise, the associate asked if I wanted my sandwiches hot or cold. I told her I wanted them hot, she turned around and said that if I was paying with my EBT card it can only be cold. Okay, I've been here plenty of times with my coworkers who happens to be Hispanic and they usually order for me. Yes the cakes are delicious. First time coming here alone to pick up a cake I ordered, one person ahead of me so I got right behind him he was near the cashier. A couple people walked in got in another line that happens to be the REAL line, he acts as if I never existed and takes all the other 3 customers before me. Then he said I was in the wrong line, apparently I knew what was the right line but figured if I was just picking up and no one else was in the bakery in line I just go behind customer at the cashier. This gentleman I find seriously rude and the worst customer service ever. Makes me not want to step foot in an unwelcoming place. To top it off, I picked up my cake, the women working there showed me it... no happy birthday was written on it as I asked over the phone. So she said she'll get it done she'll be right back, 15 minutes of waiting, she comes back out and said the person that does the cake wasn't around she she attempted to try to write happy birthday herself. Clearly she did not know how to and it almost seems to me as a JOKE of what I received. This shouldn't be accepted at all! You're a bakery, just why... why? I got scribbles of something out of this world. Now tell me as a customer picking up a cake and having scribbles on your cake, how would you feel? Pretty darn upset! This place is simply amazing! The bread is delicious (I usually get soboa but they also have pan de agua) and super cheap. You can even get it with butter or garlic spread already added to it. The desserts are plentiful. I like the bread pudding and the arroz con dulce (when they have it). The pastelitos de guayaba are also amazing. Be prepared to wait a little bit as it's usually busy, but definitely worth it! read more
