We have been going to Sol Del Sutherlin for quite a while now. IMO, the food is the best there is! It is a small family business with Dad cooking, Mom waiting tables along with a daughter and occasionally some extra help. The service is always good. Like I said, it is a small restaurant so it can get crowded quick. The family is always welcoming and attentive. The food arrives hot and what we really appreciate is the flavors are spot on and very consistent. We have never had different flavors on our favorite dishes. The best restaurant in Sutherlin. Moving here from Hawaii was quite a cultural shock. The Mexican restaurant is very cheap comparing to Hawaii. The foods are yummy and not very salty. The portion is perfect. Been going here since they opened in Sutherlin years ago. Family ran, and they are such a sweet family, and the food is wonderful! The only thing I'd say despite giving 5 stars any ways, is that I wish the restaurant seated more people! We'd go there more often if they had some tables, as sometimes we have to go elsewhere when it's too busy and people already waiting to be seated. 5 stars though, no matter what! We live in Phoenix and travel to Mexico and as [of us] all have a "taste" for what we like, this place has to hit someplace in your desire button. Food is extraordinary; presented simple for you to be comfortable and feel at home. Service is immediate and you feel there is love in the mom and pop place and as people in the medical field, my husband commented on how lovingly the one staff member swept the floor. She cared. The menu is quite large for the size of the space and rarely do I order a marg because sometimes they resemble Tide detergent unless a fine hotel, but go ahead, very nice margaritas and I can't describe one negative aspect. Worst Mexican food I've ever had. Beans and rice tasted like leftovers that had been sitting for a week and reheated. They couldn't of gone any cheaper on the chips. Tasted like cardboard. Salsa was too hot to eat for most of us. Hot, not spicy. Hot is not a flavor. Fish tacos were garbage. It's like they dug old fish out of a freezer, microwaved it, chopped it up into little pieces. It had brown spots all over it. I guess I expected nice, fresh pieces of fish as we're so close to the coast. No lime wedges served with it. The decor was typical for American mexican food and the bathrooms were clean. We ordered Chicken fajitas: very good flavor and came out sizzling hot. Tortillas looked homemade. Combo: enchilada was a bit dry but had great flavor. The taco was well made and was good. Definitely recommend if you are passing through. Hours aren't posted (they were open until 9 on a Saturday). Best Mexican food restaurant I've been to!! The fajitas were delicious! the chicken was cooked perfectly with caramelized onions and amazing seasonings. The rice and beans were good and the margaritas were perfect. The chicken ala crema is also delicious, flavorful and cooked wonderfully! One word:MOLE!!! I've never been a Mole fan until I stole a little taste of my Hubby's dish. He has the Pollo Mole. Amazingly tasty and layers of spices and sweetness. So this time when we went in I asked if they could make me Camerones Mole and they did....Wahoo! They have excellent Cadillac margaritas and serve beans with their house chips. How can you go wrong. WOW!! We have eaten here twice, trying different items on both visits. Oh my goodness! The tortilla soup is amazing. The best I've had. But, let me just say, the Arroz con Pollo was phenomenal! I've not had better anywhere else. The chicken was moist, the vegetables done to perfection, and the sauce? Oh my....so delicious and seasoned just right. A new Mexican restaurant in town and good food. Great presentation and service. My wife had nachos will I had the vegetarian fajitas made vegan by leaving off the cheese and sour cream. Everything was done well. Lots of Mexican restaurants have terrible rice but Sol de Sutherlin did it right. We would both eat here again.
