I just had Solabrite replace my two Solar Star attic fans, which had been installed in 2007. Considering the warranty was only 5 years, I'd say I got 4 warranties' worth of cooling out of them. Ray was prompt and efficient, and had the work done in a half-hour. I know the fans make a big difference in my home's climate. I don't have air-conditioning, and without the fans working my house felt hotter than usual, even earlier in the day and later in the evening after the outside temps typically cool down. I'm looking forward to feeling the difference later in the week as a warm-up is expected in the next few days. read more

I previously gave Solabrite a 5-star review in 2012. Unfortunately, Solabrite is no longer owned by the same owner as in 2012. The new installation crew is less experienced. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The plus side is that the new owner, Mufid, is a very nice person and very easy to deal with, and goes out of his way to offer discounts where applicable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] One thing this new crew is better at than the previous owner was in dust control. The new owner's crew diligently covered all my furniture with large plastic sheets. The previous owner only used a shield at the sheetrock drill bit to capture sheetrock dust, but did not use plastic sheets. However, in other aspects, the prior owner's installer was much better. For example, the previous owner's installer used a gutter protector to prevent his extension ladder from scratching or bending the top edges of my gutters as he climbed onto my roof. The current owner and his crew were far less diligent in this regard. They placed the full weight of the extension ladder, along with their full body weight, on my gutter without any gutter protection, resulting in very unsightly scratches and noticeable bends to the top edge of the gutter. The new owner's crew was careless regarding fingerprints, leaving numerous fingerprints on the reflective surfaces of the solar tubes. Those fingerprints would noticeably diminish the light output from the solar tubes. The fingerprints were caused by the installer prematurely removing the protective film from the reflective tubes during installation. Removing the protective film should have been done AFTER the reflective tube was securely affixed. If the installer couldn't do that, he should have used new disposable gloves when handling the reflective surfaces to avoid leaving fingerprints. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had to complain to the installer about the numerous fingerprints before he would climb up to the solar tube to remove them with a glass-cleaning spray.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Another area where the new owner's crew was careless was in restoring the fiberglass insulation they had removed during installation. They removed or pushed aside the fiberglass insulation in the roof space and never bothered to reinstall it around the solar light tubing, leaving large sections of the roof without any insulation. I can see the huge gaps in roof insulation caused by this new crew by using a thermal camera. When the new Solabrite owner came to my home to prepare a quote for the bathroom solar tube lights with bathroom exhaust fan add-ons, I had every reasonable expectation that the quote was for a turnkey installation and would include Solabrite or its subcontractor repairing any damage to the drywall caused by the installation and repainting the repaired areas to match the existing drywall color. Since my bathrooms didn't have existing exhaust fans, they needed new electrical switches. Solabrite subcontracted an electrician to install power switches for the exhaust fan add-ons. During the installation of the wall switches, the electrician ran new wires behind the bathroom drywall and cut multiple holes in the drywall. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After the installation, neither the electrician nor the Solabrite crew patched those drywall holes. I complained to Solabrite, and the owner came over several days after the installation to patch the large holes in the drywall at no extra cost to me[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. However, I was still left responsible for sanding the drywall patches smooth and painting them to match the existing bathroom wall color. None of this was mentioned during the quoting process or in the quote I received that I, the homeowner, would be responsible for patching up, sanding, and painting the drywall to match the color for damage caused by the electrician. This was a very unpleasant surprise that I only found out after the fact. Since the electrician was a subcontractor to Solabrite, and I didn't contract with the electrician independently, it was (or should have been) ultimately Solabrite's responsibility to patch up, sand, prime, and repaint the drywall. In all areas where I indicated the installer crew failed to meet my expectations, it's really the owner's responsibility to properly train the crew and enforce high-quality standards. Failure to do that ultimately falls on the business owner. read more

We love our new solar tubes! For years we've been dealing with a dark living room. Installing these has made a dramatic difference. In hindsight, we probably would have chosen the smaller size (14" vs. 10") due to the amount of light they provide, as our living room is small. The installation was fast and efficient. Our installer, Mufid, was very personable and he did a great job. The only issue we ran into was the installation date. We called the afternoon prior to our installation date, to get a confirmation. We were told that they wouldn't be coming the next day, as scheduled. They asked if instead they could do it one day later. We were surprised by this and wish that they had contacted us, rather than us finding out by contacting them, the afternoon before. All and all, we're very happy with the end result. read more

We hade Solabrite install a whole house fan in our 2000 sq/ft home here in Santa Rosa earlier this year. Works exactly as advertised. During this record heat the house got cooler much faster in the evening and as it clears the attic of heat as outside air is pulled in if you leave it on low overnight it makes consecutive days of record heat much easier to deal with. Solabrite came out, identified the problem and promptly fixed it without charge. Ultimately it was a problem of the roofing company's workmanship not Solabrite. My kids room was quite dark and my only option was to enlarge or add another window each would have required a complicated permitting process, then I came across solatube which is a very good product that bring lot of natural light to the room. the product works too well that during the clear night even the light from the moon is enough to keep a sensitive light sleeper awake. So I installed a solar dimmer switch which also works using solar energy to darken the unit. I have been very happy with the solabrite who installed the product. They were very professional, efficient, they came to give me a proposal and I hired them on the spot and they were done in few hours kept everything clean. I would highly recommend them. Only issue was that I had to remember to turn off the dimmer before the sun went down which was a problem because I kept forgetting to turn it off. However, solabrite fixed that problem as well. They came in and enabled a feature in the dimmer that turns on the dimmer before sun goes down. read more

Honestly, I didn't do any price comparison shopping because I didn't know where to start. Cheap isn't always a good indicator of quality - and any time somebody cuts a hole in your roof, you really want to make sure that they know how to do it correctly! Solabrite was one of the vendors at a Rossmoor remodeling event, so I assumed they were somewhat vetted, if only by reputation. We called them, they were responsive, they came right out, the price seemed reasonable for the cost of a tube and everything that goes into an installation, so we went with them. They know Rossmoor, they knew what to do for permitting and approval, the installer was professional, and the results were great. And I'm happy to report that after these relentless rains, there haven't been any issues with the installation workmanship! (And it's been great having these solar tubes during that wet, dark period. They are in windowless interior bathrooms, and during all of the rain storms and the dark and the gloom, we've had some light in those rooms. And most of those times we've gotten enough solar gain, even on a rainy day, to charge the batteries for the tubes' LED night lights. I can't say enough good things about our experience with Solabrite. We had waited a long time before finally taking the plunge with Solatubes, and our only regret is that we missed out on enjoying an excellent product for far too long. From our estimator, Mufid to Alex in the office and Miguel, our installer, every person we encountered at Solabrite was professional, helpful, responsive and just a down-to-earth decent human being. Mufid was efficient and straightforward in giving us an estimate and Alex was patient as we worked our way through several iterations. Miguel was nothing short of amazing. He showed up several minutes before 8 am on a Saturday, had all the parts and options that we had requested, an set about installing a total of 5 ten-inch solar tubes--one each to light our small, darkish bathrooms, and three to light our very dark interior hallway, smartly suggesting light kit adds on those three to ensure a seamless and professional looking finish. While we were momentarily concerned that he was alone on the job, our fears were wholly unfounded. He worked with expert precision and attention to detail and spent the next 7 hours completing a flawless install, patiently navigating our questions and stunned amazement along the way. His clean up was meticulous and other than the areas glowing from their new fixtures, you would never know the significant measuring, cutting, unpackaging and installing that had just taken plafce. The results were truly transformative and we couldn't be happier with the final product. The only downside is that the Solatube-lit parts of the house now shine like a gem and put a couple of other areas to shame; so much so that we have our sights set on two more tubes in the near future! Let me preface that I am a previous happy customer and have had multiple projects done by Solabrite. With that being said, as a previous customer, I would be a "warm" to "hot" lead considering I know the company and know what work they do. I had scheduled for them to come out for an install last year and they no showed. . It wasn't a big deal as it isn't critical to have the work done. They said that they would give me a good deal if I scheduled this year. I had scheduled months in advance due to it's difficult for me to get off of work during the week. A day before my August 7th appointment, I'm told they cannot do it because it is hot and they have to go into an attic and that the tech was sick. . seriously? . If that was the case, why EVER would you take any appointments in the afternoon? So they rescheduled for Sept. 12th. 8-9a. No call. No show. I call this morning and they said that they have it for the 21st and they rescheduled it. Wouldn't they need to call me to reschedule? Nope. Instead, they just moved it without telling me. It shouldn't be this difficult to schedule nor to get this work done. Doesn't matter what the discount, time to go elsewhere. I appreciate John and his team for the previous work but this is unacceptable. read more

I just moved to Danville. One of the first projects that I worked on was replacing some old, cracked skylights before the rain starts and adding some Solatubes to my home (Kitchen, bathrooms). I work from home and noticed how dim some of our rooms were during the day. I had experience with Solatubes before so knew they were the solution. I contacted multiple roofers, however, was not happy with their expertise on the Solatube products. Moving from Southern CA I had worked with a Solatube dealer there and was very happy with the results. I searched for Solatubes on the web and found that we actually have a Solatube dealership in our area, Solabrite ( Pleasanton CA). I was extremely happy with the professionalism of Solabrite from my initial contact. The office was great. Set me up with an appointment quickly especially knowing how panicked I was about the rainy season. The estimator who showed up (Mufid) was also very professional and pleasant and had some great ideas on where to install Solatubes. Prices seemed fair and comparable to what I paid in Southern CA. We ended up agreeing to brighten up our hallway in addition to the Kitchen and bathrooms. I was surprised to learn they also replaced skylights. I had 3 large 4x4 bubble skylights that needed to be replaced. Mufid recommended replacing with Velux Solar Operable Skylights because they were in areas I wanted to ventilate. We just finished the work this week and I have to say the place looks awesome. I didn't realize how dingy the old skylights were making the home.
