Ate here for a quick bite after a run, and I'm sorry, but it was just bad food. I had the spicy chicken thighs with 3 dipping sauces, which I feel should be pretty hard to mess up. Fried chicken is inherently delicious. When it came out I actually checked to make sure I'd gotten the spicy one because I was so confused by the taste. The server said sorry, but their spicy rub doesn't really have a kick to it. The breading wasn't just not spicy, though - it was musty and unpleasant. I tried to drown it in sauce, but the dips weren't particularly tasty either. Ranch would have been great to cool off the heat, but there was no heat to cool, so it was just bland on musty. I love fried chicken/pretty much any kind of greasy bar food and I was starving after a run, so when I tell you I couldn't make myself finish them.... The one thing I'll give them is that they weren't dry, and that's the one star I've added to the baseline 'clean place with nice view'. Borderline inedible. I also really dislike places that make you order and pay from a QR code with no interaction, but that's a personal prejudice, so I won't hold it against them. I know I was at a bar eating sober, but believe me when I say alcohol wouldn't have saved this. Not worth the $10. There are so many better places to get bar food in Navy Yard. read more

The beer and food here is solid, and of course the riverfront setting is hard to beat. My gripe with this place is their fees and subpar mobile ordering experience on Smarttab. They charge a 4% credit card fee along with an additional convenience fee for ordering through the QR code (which to my understanding is the only way to order). The recommended tip % is calculated after taxes and fees but industry standard is BEFORE. Just tacky in my opinion. I normally tip well but this practice actually had me scale back my tip. Finally, both the web and app version of Smarttab is glitchy and not intuitive. Put in my card info and the page said your order is submitted so we waited and waited for our drinks... turns out i had to hit another button to confirm payment. Did that and the app froze and not sure if payment went through so had to check my bank account. Maybe user error although I use a much better app Toasttab with no problems. read more

The National burger was juicy and delicious, and the tots were great as well. The beers were good. Their menu leans towards IPAs, but they have a handful of other brews too. The location offers lots of outdoor seating with river views. The indoors has floor to ceiling windows, so lots of natural lighting on a sunny afternoon. The bad? I visited for the first time recently, right when the brewery opened at noon. The place was pretty empty. They have online menus and ordering, but I had heard that it's hard to use so we ordered at the bar. Service was good and easy going. I appreciated the staff who stopped by our table multiple times to refill water and clear dishes; they were helpful without getting in the way. I had the Air Gourd'n (pumpkin spice porter), Red Devils DC Lager (light lager), and Gute Nacht (marzen). All were good but the Marzen was my favorite. I want to see many more German beer styles in DC! As for the Air Gourd'n, it's hard to know what to expect with a pumpkin beer -- will it be more sweet or more spiced, more natural or more fake? This one was more spiced and more natural, which was good. The beer was good but the food was awesome! The fries were great (if pretty standard) curly fries with good spice and crunch. The pretzel was awesome with a great balance of salt, butter, and beer cheese dip. The National burger was just excellent -- quality ingredients in a perfect ratio. I will definitely be back. (Other posts mention a credit card fee. I didn't pay the bill so I don't know if we incurred this, but it is wholly inappropriate to charge this and is potentially against credit card policy.) read more

Went last night to see an awesome band, No One You Know. The band was outstanding. Apparently the owners of the ecrstablishment don't like $$, as it was a complete joke attempting to purchase a drink. That's all the patrons could talk about. It took me 30 minutes to get a beer. Seriously. They could have easily made 3X or 4X profit. Bartenders were completely rude with zero hustle, and they should have had at least 3 or 4 more, if they like $$. So simple. Came here to celebrate an advancement. Great location with parking and lots of seating. Very open and airy, perfect for enjoying the beautiful weather. They have a decent beer selection and a small bar. Their menu is mostly burgers and bratss with a few additional options. I ordered the Cobra Kai brat with tots and it was seriously the most amazing hot dog ever! Pickled Asian slaw, jalapeños, and spicy mayo yumminess! It looked and tasted amazing! It's a GOOD day in the neighborhood when you end up at Solace! Talk about prime real estate - their riverfront terrace with a cocktail or some rose in hand while you enjoy the breeze and summer sun - doesn't get better than that. The ambiance, the staff and the service were all great when we rolled in on a Sunday afternoon. Yes, to all those non-beer drinkers / celiac disease (like me) individuals, this review is for YOU. You can still join your friends while they sip the beers and enjoy an adult beverage yourself. They serve up all sorts of fun, and their food can be altered to accommodate dietary needs as well. Bottom Line: lots of great beers. Mostly IPA but overall very well rounded. Their own hard seltzer was actually a killer! Food is fantastic as well. We will definitely return for food and booze! One huge downside: this place is louder than the runway at National Airport. I've been in manufacturing plants that are quieter. Overpriced, over rated and I met one of the rudest bartenders there. He would do what "management allows", the customer can not make special requests. He said, "if it's not on the menu, don't ask". Would not make concessions for dietary reasons. I can't eat spicy foods, the hot dog he served me burnt my throat and I only ate a bite! The hot dog was $9., Tater tots were $3.00, beer $9. And a garden salad $5.00. He did not inform us we would be paying a Credit card fee and 10% tax! He paid little attention to us until it was time to tip! So for 2 hot dogs ( 2 for my husband,since I couldn't eat it, tater tots, garden salad one beer and a lemonade came to $44.00, that included the the credit card charge , 10% tip and the tip was extra. They don't allow dogs inside anymore, bummer on really hot days but I understand. Depending on the manager you might get away with it, but I personally think they should stick with one answer. Swung by on a Friday night to grab a drink before dinner. Enjoyed the location, atmosphere, drinks and food so much we had dinner there. Ordering is convenient. You can scan a QR code and order via online and they'll bring your order to your table...and it's fast. Otherwise you can order direct if you wish. The beer we had was very good. Staff was friendly and the establishment is dog friendly too. We got the pretzel to start and it was definitely different. Dough was not traditional pretzel dough and therefore didn't quite taste like one but more like a savory funnel cake. Not bad by any means but different. We eventually ordered the house burger and the Tuscan bowl. Both of which were great. Would definitely recommend checking this place out. We sure will be back. read more

Tonight's experience was very disappointing. Upon walking in with my children (waiting for their dad and his father while they parked) I was met at the door to be told there were no seats available. I could see available seats, not around a table but near the windows. That was fine for us. It was trivia night. We didn't account for that and that's on us but also we were ok with that. Also, we had pre-arranged plans to meet up with many friends from out of town. The crowd did not bother us and I was actually looking around the room trying to find our friends when I was approached. Again, I was not even bothered by the crowd by any means but it was clear that the employee that met us at the door felt that we did not need to be there. Even insisted that we go to the pizza place next door rather than stay. When he realized we weren't leaving he then mentioned the seats by the window. It's unfortunate that we already had pre-arranged plans because after that comment I wished we would have left. We continued to feel like our presence was not welcome at this establishment. This has been one of our favorite places to go since we moved to the area last May but tonight may have just ended that. It's disappointing because this has been a place in the past that we have enjoyed multiple times with our kids and felt like we could be there with them. After tonight that is not the feeling it got. An excellent place for a cold beer and a casual meal. The food is really quite good, although the beer list contains too many IPAs. (There is only one pilsner, and there should be at least two.) The location is excellent and the huge windows provide nice views of the river. A surprisingly good addition to a row of relentlessly mediocre restaurants. read more
