The guys running the place are very friendly and are probably even knowledgeable about certain car problems. (They have lots of training certificates on their wall to prove it.) I won't go there again for basic maintenance, though. I went in for a coolant flush and a possible explanation as to why my heater wasn't working well. They tried to sell me a new thermostat because mine was opening a whole ten degrees under 'optimal' operating temperature. (No thanks.) I got my oil changed there out of convenience since they were already working on my car, but that was over $100. (Steep.) I was quoted over $1,100 to replace my spark plugs when I was told (by a different mechanic) the labor manual says that job should take 2.2 hours for my car. (Pass!) After performing their 'complimentary courtesy inspection', they didn't even mention the potential issue with my front suspension I asked them to look at. Bottom line: I'd rather pay a nominal fee for a useful initial inspection and deal with a mechanic who discloses reasonable labor breakdowns (with rate and times) than get a free complimentary inspection and then get presented with large fees with no real explanation of labor costs that don't necessarily address my problems. read more

When the air conditioner in my 2019 Subaru Forester stopped cooling the cabin air, I called a few independent shops in Concord, to find one that has an AC recovery machine that handles R1234yf refrigerant. Most independent shops do not have the $10,000 machine, so it took several calls to find a shop that referred me to Solano Way Auto Repair, "He has the machine." I set up a morning appointment for the following week and got a fair estimate for AC troubleshooting and service. After I turned over the key, the shop gave me a ride home. After seven hours, or so, the owner, Ken, Jr., called to let me know that my car was ready. He explained the various steps that his techs took to ID the refrigerant leak and that the AC is now fully recharged and operating normally. He then sent someone to pick me up at home. The final bill matched the initial estimate exactly. As a courtesy, they inspect and photograph many parts of the vehicle, to ensure that the owner is aware of items that need immediate service or may need service in the near future. I needed an oil change and possible brake work just before a long road trip. As a first-time customer, I was welcomed warmly by Ken, Jr. and Adam at my 10 a.m. appointment. As it turns out, I needed rear brakes, 4 new tires, a new battery, and new wiper blades. Ladies!!! This is the only mechanic / auto shop I've felt comfortable taking my cars to without feeling pressured, taken advantage of, or upsold as a woman. I went in thinking my engine needed checked so they made me an appointment for a diagnosis. Went back after playing with some buttons to find out I needed brake fluid. The entire team was helpful and easy going. Didn't charge me for a quick top off and told me I needed my brakes changed but didn't try to get me to make an appointment. I never even made it into this shop.. this guy was my kids soccer coach, I mentioned to him that my ac was out and he said he could help. Even offered to drive the car in himself since we were local. Exchanged numbers with him, messaged him... no response. Messaged again and again, finally responded, messaged him again.. no response again. The guy just ghosted me. Had a starter replaced on an accord today. Ken JR has GREAT customer service and his crew got the job done on schedule as promised, fairly priced. Why Ken JR's CS is great: * prior to taking the car in, I called to get an estimate and Ken told me they don't do phone estimates but still voluntarily recommended that if it was the starter and since it's a Honda, I should replace it w/ a specific starter motor to avoid further headache down the line. This was 100% free advice that goes a long way in my book. Needless to say I brought my car into his shop. *unbeknownst to Ken JR, the car had been sitting for over a year and the oil had replaced about 3 months before it began to sit. Since the car was already in his shop for the starter, I called about an hour later and asked if they could do an oil change as well. Ken JR said they'd be able to do it, and then a few hours later Ken JR called me to say, "your oil is full and clean. We can change it if you'd like but the condition looks good." I explained the car had sat for a year and he then recommended changing it. He could have easily just taken my money but he chose integrity instead. My roommate had some work done here and recommended them. Given that they're right off my exit, I had been meaning to give them a try. I had some long overdue maintenance items to take care of like changing tires and I was dreading some kind of leak but was very thankful for Ken Jr.'s patience and thorough explanation of what I'd compare to learning another language. I recently took my 2002 Toyota Camry to this shop, expecting to pay for a 2 hour diagnosis. We were given a tip about something to try first. Apparently this car sometimes has problems after the battery is disconnected and re-connected, sometimes dying and having to be started again. I have a 2008 GMC Yyukon with a 145,000 miles. Instead of going to the dealer I decided to support my local business and it was the best decision I could have made. I brought in my truck because it kept making a weird "get off an old mattress spring" noise from the rear. From the get go, Ken Jr was very courteous and advised me they would check out the issue and perform a full vehicle inspection as well. Not only did he call me to provide an update on my tuck, he sent me texts with a link to a website that showed what they did along with pictures of the issues they found. My truck needed a lot of attention. My rear ear brakes, rear differential, transmission, and a couple door lock actuators needed to be replaced. I still had time with the front brakes, but I decided to have them change them as well. Ken advised me that it would take a couple days to complete the repairs and that he would call me to provide updates. After two days of having my vehicle, Ken was a man of his word and constantly kept me in the loop with updates. I now have my truck and feels good as new. I had called in the morning and asked if I can drop my car off for a brake inspection because my brakes were making noise. They took my car that morning and told me that there was $95 inspection fee. He called me a few hours later and told me that my brakes were fine. I went to get my car and I went to pay and he said "no charge" :) These are great they don't nickel and dime you and are honest. This station's tester has an attitude problem and their rates are wayyy too high $70.75 plus $8.25 Failed.. needed oxygen sensor. free retest if I had it repaired. Dropped my car off @ 7:30 am solano way auto repair.2197 solano way concord 94520. Charge for replacing oxygen sensor $295. I returned @ 4:30pm to pick it up. They hadn't gotten to it yet !!!!!!!!!!! Smog + oxy sensor = $348.75 I took my car & next morning [today] I dropped it off @ the garage @2848 willow pass rd. They installed the oxygen sensor {that I had] / took it next door to bay smog & smogged it. My price for smog AND oxygen sensor install= $100~ out the door!!!!!!!!. These people total professionals, quality work @ more than fair prices My advice " stay away from Smog test express And solano way auto repair.
