I showed it to the Attendant the older gentleman and he acting like he didn't know anything about it and wouldn't redeem it. Yeah, I think I'll be looking for a new place. Way to loose a long time customer. Better drink a Red Bull before you arrive and psych yourself up with loud music. LET'S DO THIS! I've been taking my car here for years. Love it. No-fuss, no-frills self wash for $3. They advertise that if you plug in another token after your four minutes are up, you can get an extra 1:20, but I've found this to be hit-and-miss... and sometimes the token machine will eat your quarters, dispensing nothing. Credit card is the best way to go, but my experience is that about half of them have busted swipers. That leaves dollars, which is fine. Just go in knowing. read more

This place is filthy, the cement is so grimy you track it into your new clean car. They need to put a deep clean on this place - the hoses for the vacuum is disgusting. Went there three days ago it was clean in quite the issues are having to give up 3 dollars for a 5min vacuum to not do its job I believe all the vacuum's need improvements it's one thing to have to pay for something that does not work. Compared to a car wash that is busy and probably not as well cleaned but it gets the job done for a dollar less. Hopefully either the price goes down or they get new vacuums thanks. read more

I was very happy to find this place on Google Maps last weekend. My buddy needed a serious car wash and vacuuming. We figured out how to do the wash in a matter of seconds. Going clockwise, my buddy sprayed the water, I followed behind with the soapy scrub brush, and my buddy followed with water for the final rinse. This took all of 3 minutes! We had a good time as if filming a low budget 80's movie scene. (De La Soul from the early 90's quietly played in the background.) We moved on to the interior of the car. The vacuum head was clogged. No problem: I alerted the owner and he immediately identified and resolved issue. For our inconvenience, he provided a gratis cleaning naps to tackle the dusty dashboard. Altogether, we washed and vacuumed the car in MINUTES! The owner is friendly and approachable and the self service is very affordable. read more

I have to say that this place has gotten a lot more consistent lately in terms of their equipment actually working, and I really appreciate that. Now, I can only speak for the vacuums as I haven't tried the actual vehicle washing stalls in a while after severe disappointment ensuing every time I tried previously. There used to always be a staff member on site (probably because of the lack of reliable equipment and constant customer complaints) but I don't see anyone near the little tool shed looking fandangle in the corner anymore... Maybe they've decided that if their equipment works, they don't have to have a dedicated staff member on patrol. Ixnay, boo! You still need someone there. Their consistency may just pay off: This year for Father's Day I gave my dad $10 in Solar Car Wash tokens and told his butt to have a grand ol' time on me, something I never would have done with the old shady equipment. I brought one car here Tuesday and liked it so much I brought the other one back Wednesday. The place is clean, and Brandon (the staff member I encountered) was super helpful and friendly. For about four bucks, maybe five, you have a clean car in a few minutes. Think about the time it would take at home to do the same thing, gotta mix the soapy water, have a clean rinse bucket, clean up afterwards and - oh yeah - make sure you don't waste any water! This is a no-brainer bargain, more effective in my opinion, And fun. read more

When I lived in Berkeley, I frequented that location as it was the best car wash deal in the bay area. I am so glad that they have one in Oakland as well. $3 to start and $1 for every minute. Solar Car Wash has lost a loyal customer. I've patronized this place every week for over a year now, but no more. I've come here three times in the past ten days. Each time, there has been no soap in the high pressure dispenser. It's literally no different than the "rinse" option. I'm paying to WASH my car, not soak it. Today I spoke with one of the employees about this. He was far less than helpful. I've concluded that either the owners are too cheap or the staff are too incompetent to address the issue. I don't know where the Solar part is coming from since this is mostly water and pressure. Not sun and electricity. I think this self service car wash is the most popular car wash on the weekend. Take New Year's Day. This car wash was packed, everyone was washing their cars. The grounds are clean and there is a tenant ensuring that the change machine is working, customers are disposing their trash properly and most important not hogging the car wash area. They have strong suctions vacuums too and not all crusty. Who wants to use a crusty vacuum hose in their nice car. I don't. This car wash closes around dusk so it is best to go in the morning. This place is around the corner from my house and I used it once to vacuum. It was so strong! I like that it has a timer so I can see how much time I have left since other car washes are like a guessing game, omg, how much do I have left?! I went back a second time to wash and vacuum since it's so much faster than washing at home. The vacuum didn't work. i was really upset since I had to pay another 2 dollars on another machine. I promptly called the service number and left a message. I thought they wouldn't contact me again but they did! They did everything in their power to help remedy the situation and I am very pleased at the way they handled the problem. Very professional and kind. I don't mind problems. Hands down my favorite car wash in oakland. The credit card readers actually work and are really easy to use. Great water pressure, all wash functions operate properly, and the vacuums actually clean your carpets! I would obviously prefer to wash my car at home, but sense I cant, this place is definitely the next best thing.
