This blows the small ROI out of the water. Very disappointing. Then I found out this fee was optional, but I wasn't told. I asked about cancelling the fee and it would cost me about 5 years of the fee to cancel it. As for the install, installers and engineers disagreed and I ended up with an install that looks uglier than it should. They offered to fix that, but wife didn't want more holes in the roof at that point.

One year ago I had my system installed. Top Tier failed in customer service. Calls not returned…read more "I was sick." I am out of the office." These texts I saved. I have also recorded much of the verbal communications with them. However, in the end my system has been performing very well providing me with approximately 5 months without a Duke Energy bill. Fast forward to 2/23 this year. I get a text from Erick with Top Tier (text message snap shot) under the guise of sending someone from their office to check in with me (a consultation). Erick also inquired as to whether or not I was still get electric bills. I shared the information as I just did in the above paragraph. On February 27 the person who arrived at my home was Wilbert Mitchem. He was a salesperson, not a consultant. He immediately began a sales pitch about a "backup battery." After he laid out what it was I began asking questions. I told him that if I was understanding him correctly this would be a battery I could access (plugging in) for running some of my things inside (fridge, freezer etc). He responded in the positive. I asked him how big this battery would be. He pointed to my Emeril Toaster Oven and told me that it would be a little bigger than that. We then went outside to look at my system...again, was installed over a year ago. It's important to note here that my system also has a battery that simply stores power for any power outages and will run four circuits in my house for up to four days. I set a date with Top Tier for this installation. Wilbert had told me that, even after looking into my pantry/laundrey room, this backup battery could be installed there. I had to message Top Tier that we would have to delay the installation because something had come for me. I asked them to contact me directly with the new installation date. I never heard from them after that. I went out to my garden in my back yard one day early March. As I went to my car I noticed ANOTHER BATTERY attached to my wall. Not just any battery, it was the exact SAME battery as was already installed with my system. Dimensions--30 tall x 42 tall x11 inches deep. Most interesting was the fact that Wilbert stood right in front of the original battery that was installed with my system. So that means he blatantly lied about the battery he was selling or he had no clue WHAT he was selling. The installation took place without me being notified. I have to installers on my security cameras. Top Tier was slow in returning my calls. I was sick or I am out of the office was a frequent response. When I did get someone on the phone they were absolutely not helpful.. I called the fiance company GoodLeap. Essentially they told me.....you signed the paperwork so you're 3crewed. After speaking to Cody at Top Tier I was told pretty much the same thing. Interestingly Wilbert showed up at my door during all this. I have his picture saved on my phone from my ring camera. Through my Nextdoor App I have shared this all over East Charlotte and asked others to spread it across Charlotte. I was cordial to him when I went outside, but I made it very clear to him to never set foot in my yard again or I would have him arrested for trespassing. I am not sure if Wilbert or Top Tier understand that when a salesperson enters a persons home they have no expectation of privacy. When I spoke with Cody yesterday (5/28) I made sure he knew that all of my phone conversations have been and will be recorded. I highly recommend solar especially with Duke prices rising so sharply. For the past three months I have carried a negative balance on my electric bill....yes, Duke is paying me almost $2.50 per month. Top Tier and Goodleap have had numerous complaints. Many have had no remedy. In doing research I have found that the BBB has several unresolved complaints with Top Tier. Based on what I have a read IMO I'd say this smacks of predatory behavior.

Several days later he showed up with and installed the correct part. Before leaving I explained that my app showed power from my panels going ONLY out to the grid - not recharging the batteries of powering our home. the tech said it could take a couple of hours to reset...that was more than 48 hours ago. My CSR seems to be ghosting me. We are now at 2 weeks where our system is not producing/operating properly. As someone said earlier the "service side leaves much to be desired.". Renu's service department is slow to respond and doesn't follow up when promised. Update: Tech Bobby Brown arrived yesterday and seems to have fixed the issue. He worked on some high voltage stuff whilst I held an umbrella for him in a steady rain. I very much appreciated Bobby's efforts. That said, this warranty repair took too long to complete. Customer service (while very polite and pleasant) did not communicate well and the initial tech came with the wrong part then poo-pooed my concern about energy flow. My system was out of commission for 19 or 20 days which remains unacceptable. I am raising my rating to 3 stars from 2 with the hope that this was a one-off issue and that I'll be able to raise my rating more in the future.

My experience with Renu Energy Solutions has been very disappointing…read more I began the process of expanding my solar system nearly a year ago. During that time, I was sold equipment that I did not actually need, which resulted in unnecessary expenses and wasted time. As someone who trusted their expertise, I expected honest recommendations that were in my best interest. The situation became even more frustrating when I needed an additional AC/DC converter to support the new panels I purchased from Renu. I reached out to the company approximately one month ago and have yet to receive a response. Multiple follow-up attempts have gone unanswered. The lack of communication and customer support has been unacceptable. When customers invest thousands of dollars in solar equipment, they deserve timely responses and ongoing support. Instead, I have been left with an incomplete solution and no assistance from the company that sold and installed the system. I chose Renu because I expected professionalism and expertise. Unfortunately, my experience has been characterized by unnecessary equipment purchases, long delays, and poor customer service. I hope the company improves its communication and customer support so future customers do not experience the same frustrations.

I went with Freedom after the initial company I was going to use dropped the ball. Freedom was a little more expensive bemuse we selected the top of the line Sun Power panels. Freedom Solar has a decentralized approach to project management. The sales rep would did the initial presentation was okay - a little shaky on his knowledge base. He said he would oversee the project - after a while he dropped out of sight and everything was done via their customer service department. Overall the customer service reps were good. Couple of issues - getting approval from our HOA. They snail mailed the initial application / fee which the HOA said they never received. Customer service resent and eventually we got HOA approval. My question is how come in this day and age was this process not done electronically. Installation day comes - the electrician shows up and works till after sunset to complete his tasks. The panel installers never showed up - we were contacted at the end of their time window. Instead of rescheduling for the install the next day we had to wait a couple of days for somebody to be flown in from Texas (we are in North Carolina). All the inspections passed without issue. The app is easy to use for monitoring. Time will tell how much benefit we will receive - keeping fingers crossed for positive results. One last annoyance - got an invite to a zoom call to review the system and app - BUT it can't be scheduled for several more weeks. Would have thought it would have been scheduled with in a week of turning the system on. I would have preferred if Freedom Solar had a true project manager who coordinated and communicated all that is going on rather than their decentralized approach.
