Both Dr. Solem and staff are kind, efficient and patient when explaining changes to my kid's treatment plan and accommodating our schedules. They patiently double check to make sure wires aren't cutting into my kid's cheeks and they'll fit us in if a bracket accidentally breaks off. I can't recommend Dr. Solem highly enough! As an adult patient, I came to him needing to correct a bite issue and fix one problematic tooth. From day one, Dr. Solem created a comprehensive treatment plan that made complete sense, and we stayed right on track with monthly check-ins throughout the entire process. I brought my middle son in for a braces consultation this week and we were accompanied by two of my other children. The staff were so kind and understanding! They offered treats to my kids and chatted with them a bit, which was helpful as I learned more about what procedures my son needed. I also appreciated learning about all the options for payment as well as what other kinds of services they offer. My kids felt comfortable there, which is always a plus. I was so excited to learn that they would be able to remove my permanent retainer on my lower teeth and make a night time retainer for me someday! That's next after getting my son set up with braces! KAISER PATIENTS BEWARE!!! ESPECIALLY PARENTS WITH CHILDREN WITH CLEFT PALATE/LIP who need treatments!!!!! I would give NO STARS if I could!! I was not going to leave a review at all but after being blocked which was unnecessary I thought I'd leave a review warn other parents with Kaiser Insurance. We were referred to Solem Orthodontics as they are closer to home, we were excited to start with this place as we wouldn't have to travel to Oakland as much. Me and my daughter went for her Consultation and right away were asked if we had insurance I stated yes we have Dental insurance but we are being referred by Kaiser. I stated they should have received referral/Authorization since December of 2023 as I have a copy of the referral, according to them they still hadn't received it (weird). First red flag , Secondly I was told yes Dr. Solem could work with my daughter but we needed to pay a $500 deductible (second red flag ). I was like hmmm that's strange, so our secondary insurance kicked in 5/1 for (DUAL KAISER COVERAGE) and I again called to double ask about the large amount of deductible, since we are double covered through Kaiser the $500 should not apply! I was told Dr. Solem would give me a call to answer my question, He then called me and asked me regarding my daughters regular dentist treatments as then he would be able to answer my question, which he did not I then again made him aware we are double covered through Kaiser. He asked "what do you mean" I again stated we have dual-coverage through Kaiser so would the $500 deductible still apply? According to him it still did and he wasn't allowed to bill Kaiser for Medical and Dental. Mind you he was not using our Dental insurance at all so it would all be through Medical, and that he had spoken to a Social worker and and who knows who.. So point is that we still had to pay a $500 deductible. which did not make sense because that's why there is an authorization/referral in place by Kaiser as he is getting paid by Kaiser!!! This whole process did NOT make any sense at all!! and it was not sitting right with me.. My daughter has been to 2 previews Orthodontics since birth due to a cleft palate/lip so we are very aware of how everything works and especially referrals/Authorizations. I reached out to my daughters case manager/social worker through Kaiser to make them aware of the situation and how we are being asked for a significant amount. Luckily I had proof of why they were trying to be charge the $500 "(copy of the treatment plan supposedly)" and proof of the text messages from this orthodontist. Right when I reached out to Kaiser regarding my concern I get a text message from Dr. Solems office "regarding my concern about the $500 deductible, and stated they were out of network and that is what they are required to charge" I totally understand they are out of network and therefore they are contracted by Kaiser and that's why there is a contract in place. I did not respond, because I was waiting for an update from my daughter's social worker to reach out to me for any update. Turns out I was told most likely Dr. Solem was going to put a hold on working with Kaiser patients. Which was another red flag of why all of a sudden was he going to put a pause on working with Kaiser patients after I raised my concern? So this orthodontist was trying to charge us $500 on the side on top of being paid by Kaiser for the services. I knew something was not right and honestly what feels like FRAUD!! Im GLAD I listened to my gut and listened to my instincts on this wrong situation!. I called today to cancel my daughters appts just to find out I was BLOCKED !! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL . I am a 50+ adult who never got braces as a kid. One upper tooth has always been crooked, but the bottom teeth used to be straight. Also I've had a pronounced overbite my entire life. Over the last 10 years I've noticed that my bottom teeth are crowding, and over the last several years my bite has been completely changing so that I only had one contact on each side. I went to Dr Solem to see if this was correctable. He felt quite confident that he can not only fix my bite but that even the super crooked tooth that I've had all my life will be fixed. Because I have been comfortable with sleeping with a night guard, Dr Solem recommended Invisalign so that I can continue having a "night guard" of sorts as I sleep better with one. This process will take 1.5 to 2 years and I'm currently only 3.5 weeks into the process. I am so shocked that I already have 3 points of contact on each side of my mouth, and my overbite is drastically reduced (which even a friend noticed). This past week I had a little concern over the tray position on my 3rd set of trays and Dr Solem and his team were very accessible and even moved up my appointment to check to see what's going on and to give advice. They are not worried about it and explained what is happening. I feel like they all really care and are genuinely excited about fixing my teeth. I won't lie....Invisalign isn't completely a walk in the park (what braces are?), but I'm really excited about the final outcome. I'm excited about how much better it already is after 3 weeks! As for the appearance of the office, it is very clean and welcoming. I'm thoroughly impressed. I'm sure I'll be updating this review as the 1.5 - 2 years progress. read more

Dr. Solem is trustworthy and I highly recommend. The entire office practices a great amount of personal care. I first visited Dr. Solem because my 20+ year old retainer broke. The process for a new retainer was quick - a single appointment to discuss options for replacement and within that same appointment he was able to take a 3D scan of my mouth to make the retainer. I've been really happy with the new one. Throughout the entire process, the entire practice was a pleasure to interact with. The offices are clean and the equipment is modern. read more

After getting initial consultations from two different Orthodontic offices, I was happy to find Solem Orthodontics. I know it's cliche but you never get a second chance to make a first impression. The office is so immaculately clean and so professionally set up. This is important to me. I think the care and pride they take in their workspace is a reflection of the care they take with each patient (me). The staff is friendly and welcoming and I felt immediately at ease. Not many people realize that 1 in 3 orthodontic patients are adults. As an adult that works in healthcare - the staff treated me with respect and made me feel that I didn't need to advocate for my own best interest as everyone there already made my best interest their priority. My son is now 19 but had Dr. Solem's office been around when he needed Orthodontic work, I would not have hesitated to bring him here for treatment. My son had a pretty big overbite and I am so impressed with the treatment plan and how quickly we saw results. He had an expander and then braces on the top front teeth to move the front top teeth into a better position. My son is due to get his braces off the top very soon and later down the road we will do a full set to get everything straight once he gets all his adult teeth. Dr. Solem is probably the best orthodontist i have seen. We switched to Solem Orthodontics from my old dentist because we were not satisfied with the work they did. Dr. Solem has Harvard training and was recommended by friends of our family, so i knew he would be more capable than my old dentist. My son needed braces and the he walked us through the entire process. He was very patient and professional and explained all our options. We chose to go with Invisalign. Dr Solem had the braces done professionally and in a timely manner. My son says they fit great. His teeth already look much better, and Solem orthodontics is really good about following up and keeping us on track - Invisalign is a process that takes months to complete, requiring dental professonal's supervision. Solem Orthodontics saved me in a pinch! A wire on my retainer broke and my last orthodontist appointment was over 15 years ago. Dr Solem first offered to see if it was fixable (it was beyond repair) and then he made me a new one and it was ready within a week! When I picked it up he took his time ensuring everything fit correctly, nothing was poky or messing with my bite. He also offered for me to come back and get it adjusted if I noticed anything down the road (it fit perfectly).
