I went with my fiancé and my brother to check out this Naperville brewery. It was busy the day we went due to a Santa event; however staff was very efficient with serving patrons. The brewery is small but had a cool Viking theme with wall murals! The beer names are quite interesting! We tried Punk Rock for Rich Kids (APA), Hand in Hand Into Oblivion (Blended Yeast Saison Ale) and Ravaged by Vikings (Double IPA). We were impressed with the flavors! Ravaged by Vikings was very hoppy. Staff was very friendly and offered great suggestions! Overall, great beers and I would need to do another visit to Solemn Oath to try more of their beers when it is not super busy. read more

I wanted to love this place so much - I drove in from Chicago, and was greatly disappointed. Unlike most others, I didn't think this was hard to find at all. Nestled behind some car dealerships, it was in the back of a large parking lot. What was disappointing, however, was that there was some kind of garbage disposal crate located right in front of Solemn Oath - holy goodness did that stink! Not a good note to start. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, and was kind of surprised at how small and crammed the tap room was. And only 2 bartenders were working. We waited for 10 minutes before being able to order (about six beers were already sold out), and upon ordering - I got my drink, but my fiance's beer had just tapped out. One of the bartenders went to go change the keg - leaving a single bartender to fend for himself. I had finished my beer already and my fiance was still standing there waiting for his beer. Finally, the remaining bartender asked him if he could help him - he grabbed the beer he had ordered (I'm assuming the tap was changed out), and we scrambled to find a place to stand or sit. We grabbed another round, and tried to close out our tab. Turns out both bartenders, despite making my fiance wait approximately 30 minutes, double charged us. They already processed our cc and suggested we "gift a beer" instead of a refund. Um...we won't be back. So we asked for the refund and left. It was a weird experience. The wife and I finally had an opportunity to drop in to finish out a date night and I was pleasantly surprised with this place. First impression - kind of your typical appearance for a smaller operation - industrial - equipment everywhere - loud music - chalkboard menus - hipster staff. But still.. it was cool, and even cooler was that the beer was really freaking good. Now I've been to quite a few breweries and to be honest I feel like a lot of the beer starts tasting the same. But this place seemed to have a bit of a twist on things that had a tendency to set them apart. Take for instance their barrel-aged horchata Goldmund. They describe it as vanilla, cinnamon, and the uniqueness of Horchata-inspired flavors joining in the mix of chocolaty milk stout aged in bourbon barrels. And that's about right. It's simply amazing and I struggle to describe it any other way. And I had several. All in all - I dug it and I think you will too. Alex is such a great bartender! We had an awesome time talking with him and learning more about their beers. He takes his job seriously which I appreciate (although the people getting carded mostly didn't haha). Seating is very limited and pretty cramped. In the summer it's expanded a little ways out into the lot. Like other reviewers have mentioned, it was a little hard to find, but the lights strung up outside helped us a lot. My fiance LOVED their Oktoberface. Definitely one of his top Oktoberfest beers. Sadly a couple of their other beers which sounded great were all out already. It's good that the demand is high, stinks when you get there at the end of production haha! Also, please bring back fun sponge! read more

Beer. Nothing else. Before you head over make sure you plot the address on your phone map first. This place is hidden, even for those who 'think' they know where they're going. When you see the garage door logo, you're good. Once you arrive you'll find that Solemn is a very small space inside. The bar seats about ten and they have a few table tops that you can use. A couple buddies and I met here for happy hour on a Thursday and it was busy. I'm sure weekends are high traffic so you might consider the size constraints prior to your visit. The bar staff here Thursday were two very knowledgeable, very friendly people. My buddies and I got great feedback on their existing line as well as what's coming down the road. I went with a flight and a beer on the side. Look, I'm terrible when it comes to remembering all of the names..so I'll skip that part. You'll drink what you like anyways. The bottom line...every single last one of them were excellent. This is where I insert the *. Most reviews probably state this..Solemn's * is a 3 beer limit. I wasn't fond of the rule but that's Naperville being the obnoxious city that it is. It's not Solemn's fault. One more oddity, Solemn doesn't accept cash. Only plastic here. And even odder, they don't accept tips. Bartenders will accept 'a drink' in the form of tip. One last thing..no food. ONE. OF. MY. FAVORITES. Let's start off with locations. This brewery is located behind some commercial industrial Park. The parking lot always has plenty of room. Other than the weird smell coming from old brewing waste (I'm sure it's removed frequently, but during the summer months can smell a bit odd), the patio is cute and filled with local doggies! Now to the beer, yum. I've tried plenty of their beers and majority are delightful. The brew masters know their stuff. They aren't afraid to try things and collaborate with other local companies. Solemn Oath is one of my favorite stops in Naperville, but even as a huge SOB fanboy I've got to admit this place has a few flaws that are keeping it from being as awesome as it could be. Let's start with the bad news: First off, as mentioned in a few reviews, the growler rules are pretty silly, which I believe to be a City of Naperville thing. Basically, if you're getting a growler filled here it MUST be a Solemn Oath growler, they won't fill up anything else. I've got a cool vacuum thermos growler I love using and they won't touch it here. We don't go as often as we would because seating in the tap room is brutal. Unless you go at like 2:00 in the afternoon, chances are you're not sitting at the bar and instead are just huddling in a corner. "Prime time" hours, like closer to 7:00ish, are just insane. With how much SOB has been expanding throughout the rest of that industrial complex they're in, I've got no idea why they don't make the tap room way bigger and add more seating. But, like most things to do with beer in Naperville, it wouldn't surprise me at all if it was another City of Naperville thing. The three beer limit is silly too, as everyone's tolerances are different and like most craft brews, the ABV of SOB's beers can vary wildly. But, unsurprisingly again, this is a City of Naperville rule that I'm sure sounded really good on paper at some City Council meeting. All these things really add up to scratching your head as to why they chose to open in Naperville when there's so many other more beer-friendy suburbs nearby, but, I digress. Now, the GOOD news: The Solemn Oath crew are both super cool and incredibly tuned in to the local beer scene. Another up-side to showing up early in the day is not only getting seats, but it also being slow enough to be able to BS with the bartenders. Also, if you feel like getting internet stalker-y, a lot of them have real cool beer brewing-centric Instagrams where you can see a lot of neat behind the scenes stuff like them installing new equipment or brewing new beers. Their Old Order program is something I really hope catches on in a big way locally. Basically, once a year they open up membership and you effectively pre-buy a ton of barrel aged beer that gets released throughout the year, sort of like pre-ordering a bunch of video games. Instead of waiting in line like an idiot, your bottles are just reserved. They even do really awesome release parties whenever they've got a new beer. It's basically the best thing ever. Last, but not least, Oath Day is without a doubt the best beer festival I've ever been to. I'm not sure if it's intentional or not, but the amount of people they let in seems perfect. Lines are short, space is ample, and it's just a really cool day... Compared to a lot of other local beer events which seem to be wholly interested in selling as many tickets as humanly possible and packing as many people in as the fire chief will allow. If I was a single chick, I'd be here every day. This place is a sausage fest and I'd definitely have my pick of any type of man I wanted -- from the burly lumberjacks to skinny hipsters to just the average working man, I think any woman could find her potential mate here. I came to Solemn Oath a few weeks ago on a Friday afternoon with my husband and Angela P to try out their beer and also finally try some Toasty Cheese. Solemn Oath doesn't have food, so if you're the type that likes your beer with food, make sure to come on a day where a food truck will be on the premises. I tried the Oubliette and found it delicious. It's a light beer and right up my ally. The seats are very hard to come by so if you plan on coming in on a Friday night, I'd recommend leaving work early to beat the rush and snag a seat. Just tell your boss I said you had to leave and that should work as a valid excuse. (I am also willing to type this up and print it out for you because I am that selfless of an individual.) Breweries are popping out every where, but when you find a good one, you make sure you keep coming back. Solemn Oath Brewery is one of those breweries. To be quite frank, in my opinion, it's a beer lovers haven. What makes Solemn Oath so special? Well for one their beer is amazing. You can't be a great brewery without having great beer, and the quality of the beer at Solemn Oath is what makes it stand out. Their beers are well balanced and crafted in a manner where you can tell the brewers are conscientious about every detail they put in their product. The creativity of the flavor profiles and variety of beers is truly exceptional. From IPAs to stouts, this brewery has something for everyone. As for the brewery itself, it has a small tap room. It is intimate to say the least, but it provides a great atmosphere. The people who are there love beer and are more than willing to strike a conversation about the beer, and after a second or third beer (pending on the alcohol content) might be willing to also have a conversation about the meaning of life. The bartenders are knowledgeable, friendly, and are in charge of the music, so they bring their own little flair to the tap room. Though small, the tap room provides a great atmosphere and definitely enhances the Solemn Oath brand. Solemn Oath is a great brewery. It has great beer, friendly customers, excellent service, and terrific atmosphere. I'd highly recommend it to hang out for 1 or 3 beers (3 beer limit, and credit card only). I haven't yet been disappointed by Solemn Oath, and if you give them a try, I doubt you won't be either. Oh and I forgot one important thing. They have and awesome beer board where you can buy a beer for a friend. They put it up on the board and when your friend stops by, they can pick up the beer you purchased for them. So if there is someone you haven't seen in a while, buy them a beer and reconnect. I mean what's better than beer to help bring people together? Final thought... you should also buy me a beer for telling you about this (I enjoy Butterfly Flashmob). Put it under Arvin, there's not many Arvins out there, so I think the first name will fine. This small brewery hidden behind the car dealerships in Naperville makes the best brews I've tasted in IL. The focus is around IPA's which are never boring in Solemn Oath. They have mastered a way to create unique IPA's while constantly keeping the rotation fresh. Inside the small industrial brewery room can fit probably less than 10 seats inside, but there's additional booth seating around the corner away from the action (I never sit there because you feel disconnected) and there's also around 6 picnic benches outside during the 2 months of the Midwest summer, so enjoy it while it lasts! This brewery has some of the best people behind the counter and they play loud music which is a huge plus in my book and ultimately makes me come back. Some of the other breweries I like don't play music and it definitely takes away from the vibe. Alex has been behind the bar for a few years and feels like the hub of positive energy everytime I visit. Snag a t shirt, hat, beer to go and buy the staff a beer on your way out. Solemn Oath doesn't allow tips and no cash is accepted, so bring your cards and leave the piggy bank at home. PS. I wish they would offer frosted mugs during the summer and have guest food trucks more often. Solemn Oath Brewery was different. I was headed over here to meet with some friends today because I heard Toasty Cheese was going to be there. It was really hard to find! I put it into the GPS which took me to this industrial area where Solemn Oath was hidden in the very back of a building in what looked like a garage (see picture). Honestly, I never would have guessed this was a brewery people could go to and drink with friends if no one had told me otherwise. So we got our Toasty Cheese and headed inside. This place was packed and it was extremely small on the inside. There was the bar area and maybe six or seven barrels stood up to act as tables. No seats. We snatched up a 'table' for the six of us which barely fit the food and beer. At least they were cool with us bringing the food in there though. We got the 'hexafoos' beer (American Farmhouse Ale) and it was decent. I actually liked it a lot. A small glass of it was 6 bucks. A little expensive for a small glass, but I guess that can be expected for this kind of place. I wasn't exactly crazy about the crowd in there either... there were a lot of stare-ers, probably just looking for a fight. Overall, I'm indifferent about this place. Apparently Toasty Cheese will be there every other Friday, so I may be back, but I wouldn't go here just to drink with friends. Better bars, better breweries elsewhere. read more

Hipster, dipster. But, yummy beer. I like the 3 beer limit, surprisingly - allows you to escape the pretentious air before you're buzzed, and allows for a slow-sip enjoyment - instead of chugging! Many varieties available. Bartenders do not take tips, but you can buy them a beer. You can also buy a beer for a friend, and they post it on the wall so they can get it when they are in next. Industrial Park drinking on a Saturday night? Yes, Please! I had a groupon for Two Fools, and I decided to take a non-beer drinker here along with one the pickiest eater/drinker adults I know and even they found a beer in the small size to try, and actually enjoy! Looking for a brewery that's low on frills but high on flavor? Solemn Oath will be right up your alley. This brewery is fairly new, having just opened last year. Like many great breweries, it's hard as hell to find. Why you hiding from me, Solemn Oath? If I remember correctly, it's in the first group of businesses on the right side of Quincy, right after the car dealership. Then you have to go all the way to the back, where you'll see a big lot of cars, and possibly trucks. It's all the way at the end. You'll see a garage door that says "Solemn Oath." Congrats. You have arrived. When I first arrived, I wasn't sure where to go in because you just see the garage door and then a business door and think "Um, is there a tap room here?" Yup, there is. One door leads to the brewery. The second and last door goes to the tap room. There is a bar with about 10 seats. No decor really. It's literally a tap area in a brewery. You'll see the guy brewing beer right before your eyes while you sit at the bar and drink what they've made. Now the beer. Man is their stuff good. I love the funky names. Being an English and Journalism major in college, I was excited to see a beer called Oxford Comma. I made sure to add it to my flight of beers that I got. By the way, I highly recommend getting a flight. There is a 3 beer limit imposed here (thanks, Naperville). The best way to try the beers on tap is to get a flight, which counts as one serving of beer. If you're with a friend, mix it up so you can try each other's beers so you don't miss out. My flight consisted of Oxford Comma, Hexafoos, Oubliette, and Wreckagemaster (told you the names were great). The beer menu gives a description of what you're drinking, along with a pronunciation guide. Oxford Comma is a nicely spiced Belgian Blonde Ale. It's pretty good, though the ginger makes it a little hard for me to have a whole glass of it. Hexafoos is a farmhouse ale. Definitely taste the citrus in this one. Oubliette was one of my favorites. It's a pale ale with some fruity notes, but not in an overpowering way that makes you feel like you're drinking juice. Wreckagemaster is a double IPA and is pretty strong. Gives you a good kick in the mouth. One of the interesting things about this tap room is that you are not allowed to tip the bartender. You can, however, buy them a beer. We were there for quite some time and the bartender was really nice, so we bought her one before we left. You can also buy a beer for someone to get at a later time. They add their name to a board on the wall, and that person can come in later to claim it. I didn't do this because I don't like my friends that much. (Kidding...but not really) The prices were a little high ($6) but it's good beer so I can't complain too much. Don't bring cash, as they take credit and debit only. We left with a growler of Mr. Inappropriate, which is a very drinkable Belgian wheat. It's hoppy, so beware if it's not your thing. I love hops, so I'm perfectly happy with a full growler. If you're into breweries, definitely put this one on your list. There isn't food here or TVs, so be aware that you're coming for the beer and the beer only. I first stumbled upon Solemn Oath Brewery at the Wheaton Ale Fest '12. I was impressed with their offerings there and was intrigued finding out it was a "local" brewery. Well, it has been a while since the Wheaton Ale Fest and yesterday, Saturday afternoon, I decided it was time to retry Solemn Oath's offerings. My hat off to you other YELPERS that pointed out finding the location was a bit tricky. It LITERALLY is the little drive that is DIRECTLY behind the Cadillac dealership. Don't be fooled, just take the turn and head back to the building with the green stripe around the top. It is tucked away back there. I drove right by the street and had to turn around. There was plenty of parking there, but like I said it was a Saturday afternoon, I'm not sure what it would be like say on a Thursday night after work. Walking in you are immediately greeted with the smell of beer and cleaner (maybe the clean smell is just some of the beer ingredients like citrous-hop, but either way it's pleasant). There is seating around a small bar area, a female and a male single person washroom, and some shelves with some of their merchandise for sale (glasses, shirts, growlers, etc.). It was super nice, kinda industrial with soul - think dark wood and metal with concrete floors. We were greeted by two bartenders, "Emily" I think was one, and I forget the other one's name. They were nice and friendly. Unfortunately, there was no seating available at the bar. Having never been there before I felt a little awkward. There didn't really seem to be a good place to stand. Also, there wasn't an open area at the bar to lean in and order. My two suggestions - clear a little area by the bar where it is clear for people to approach and order. Second suggestion - add some counters against the walls so if there is no bar area one can stand by the wall, place the beer on a counter, lean on it, etc. Anyway, we kinda leaned between two different groups and ordered our beers and opened our tab. We then went and stood by the shelving area where they displayed their merchandise. After our first beer two people left and we were able to sit by the bar. I saw in one of the other reviews about a 3 drink maximum, I'm not sure if that is the case. We were never told this and did not see any indication of this. But let's get to the point here - the beer! The beer is NOT what they have listed on their website. I know the website says "oft-changing," but then right after that says "Now Available." There was only one, Oubliette, on the website that they had available. Ha! No worry though, there were 7 different beers to try. Our group of 3 tried each one. I was rather found of Whisper Kisses. OktoberFACE was solid. Yarnbomb was an unoffensive, although not an amazing Hefeweizen. My friend bought their growler full of Buttefly Flashmob, They also offered one called Snaggletooth Bandana. They were missing a stout offering or something dark and heavier than the OktoberFace. It also seemed that they had a lot of pale ale type (Belgian pale, American pale, ipa) to offer. It is credit card only! Which is no problem for me. There was no tipping which I found strange. There was a chalk board where you could buy a drink for you buddy, put their name up there, and next time he could get that drink. Kind of nifty, but also kind of strange. There is no food, so show up on a full stomach or be prepared to get food somewhere afterward! All and all, I'm pretty excited and pleased with Solemn Oath. Definitely worth the trip to find this brewery. Their beers are popular and liked by everyone in the craft world, it seems. Still, they can be hard to find out on the streets, especially outside the more popular craft-y places. And given how many they had on the board, I'm guessing a lot of them rarely make it out of the brewery much. Add that they don't bottle or can, so if you want to have some at home or a party, you'll have to come here. Do it. I could tell you my favorites, but I bet they change a lot. The hoppy stuff is good, I had a single hop beer that was great. The Belgian stuff is good, ranging from light and sessionable to heavy duty. Flights are recommended, four generous pours. Was lucky to find a corner of the bar to rest my beers as I sampled. I ended up going home with growlers of three of them. I had cash but didn't need it, this place is card only. No tips. You probably already read that. I also found the no tip - or the way you tip, with a "buy a drink" system - a bit odd. Nice to get a $6 tip, but I wonder how often the staff gets stiffed. We went on a Wednesday night, and the place was packed. I think that this will eventually be a downfall for them. Went to this place on a Saturday and was definitely impressed by the beers and the bartenders. It's rather hidden in an industrial park but usually easy to spot with either a food truck or a plethora of cars. There are roughly 12-15 spots to sit at the bar plus a few other tables There is a limit of amount of beer you can drink which is smart. I've not seen that before anywhere else, but it's a good idea. The beers themselves are very fresh and good and there is a slew to choose from. I am a fan of Psychogaze, Kidnapped by Vikings and Wreckagemaster. read more

A good date night. The pods were fun but have to make a reservation online and the booking is a bit expensive for example 53.33 after taxes for a 90 min slot. The line to get drinks is a bit of a long wait which took me away from spending time with my group. They should have waitresses that come to the pod. There is not any food that comes with the pod reservations. There are dogs all over the place so if your allergic, watch out. The picnic table and igloos are all pop up materials that is able to be broken down. The pictures were very deceiving online. The pods aren't heated or private either. There is sand around the fire pits which was cool but didn't see why that's needed. The outdoor space is next to a parking lot. There was not any indoor seating. read more

Super hard to find but worth seeking out. Every single beer they make is delicious. They switch them out frequently and started bottling many of their brews now which is great! I especially like Wreckage Master, Pyrros, None More Black, Whisper Kisses, Butterfly Flashmob...I could go on. If you're looking for something to send your palate into a tailspin of funk, what in the world is this and damn it's so weird I just have to like it, try Foux du Fafa. Credit card only and check their site to see if there will be food trucks. If you can get the argentinian chefs who make their sausage with chimichurri you will not be disappointed. We have been going to Solemn Oath for several years now and are members of The Old Order. Their staff is always nice and accommodating - the bar tenders are great! Had an issue with an expensive beer going bad and they replaced it after I brought in what I had left. I was really happy with how they handled the situation. Taproom is small but worth checking out - there is a separate area with booths. The Old Order releases are the best! They really go all out with having food trucks (indoors when it's cold, they setup inside) and lots of beer to try. We've also gone for their Solemn Oath Day beer fest and really enjoyed that too. That is the event dogs are allowed to - they included an area with puppies as a pet adoption event since the fest was all outside (dogs still are not allowed inside). Not sure why people think Yelp is the best place to check to see if dogs are allowed but they are not. read more

Met up with 4 other friends here. They are tucked all the way back in an industrial park behind other businesses so if you use Google Maps just drive to the parking lot behind where it tells you to go and then go all the way down to the end of the parking lot to find them (there is also a 2 Fools Cider brewery back in that area you may end up there by mistake first...or give them a try and then move on down to Solemn Oath). Normally they have about 8 - 12 beers on tap but they recently had a large party and were out of half of them. They have a responsible 3-beer-per-person limit as part of their licensing with the city of Naperville. The staff was friendly, very helpful & happy to fill you in on the history of the brewery, info on the beers, Naperville liquor licensing, etc. Two downsides were their seating is all belly-up to the bar/counter style so not really conducive for more than 2 people to have a conversation. It is a small tap room but they could fit in a table or two as well. That and the music, while an excellent selection of tunes, was on the loud side right in the tap room so the 5 of us might have been able to talk in a awkward fashion all at the bar if we could have actually heard one another. Eventually a few of us just stood behind the others & they turned around on their bar stools so we could see each other and talk. Still a good place and we would stop in again if we are in the area and want to wet our whistle. read more

I was in Proviso for business in October and i decided to visit a brewery while I was there. I'M GLAD I PICKED THIS ONE! I tried: Kidnapped by viking Hex W/Gummies Great beers, very flavorful and easy drinking. The Hex w/ Gummies I believe was a cask they experimented with but boy was it tasty. Something I never expected from a beer. Wish they had it to bring back with me to California. I purchased a T-shirt and glass as I always do when I visit small town brewerys. Hopefully I make my way back to Naperville in the near future or better yet I run into a Solemn Oath beer here in California. Great Job Guys! read more

A decent enough Brewery in Naperville it has more spaces on the outside than in the inside and this brewery was quite effective in supplying good beer for the average beer drinker that doesn't put much thought of their beer. I'd give this place 5 stars just for the aroma alone! The beer is definitely fresh. I didn't try all of the beers, a lot of IPA on the menu and those are a little too hoppy for me but I did like the End All Ale a fruity American Pale Ale. I had know idea this place existed, a patron at the cidery across the parking lot, 2 Fools, recommended it to us. It's off the beaten path in a business park. read more

This is my 2nd time actually visiting the brewery, snaggletooth bandana is my go-to store beer. Saturday night I was expecting it to be packed because it's relatively small but it wasn't , which was nice. Started with a flight to wet the whistle and finished with a pint.
