Found out about this brewery in Westmont and came to try a few beers. It's in a pretty hard to find location in some industrial area, the worst thing about it. Whiskey Hill is a funny name, as this place has beer, not whiskey. Oh well, what they have is still good. There's a pretty good selection including some hoppy and sours. A lot of breweries are in kind of strange areas. It's the case with this one. This is located on Vandustrial in a building it share with some offices and whatever. Lots of trucking companies around here. There's semis parked along the street. Anyway, the beers. It's about $6 a pour. It's not quite a pint but whatever. Even so, a pretty good price for a small brewery. Has many to choose from. Best was the 7 Mile Bridge. It's a Belgian Weisse with key lime, toasted coconut, and vanilla. A lot of lime flavor. This is almost like a sour to be honest. A pretty strong one at 7% ABV. There's not a whole lot on tap, but they manage to have quite a bit for a microbrewery to be honest. Get some beers on tap or take some of the cans to go. It's a small place but when it's warmer they have a patio. There's no food but sometimes there's food trucks. read more

First time at this brewery. Their Deck the Hills drink was pretty good. It has a slight sour taste with cranberry, nutmeg, and cinnamon. It's a smaller brewery (i.e., no food) but looks to have plenty of seating for a busy night. The bartender was very friendly. The brewery hides between a couple industrial, warehouse-type buildings and can be easily missed. Recommend giving a try. read more

Brewery only ok. Parking lot is tight. Seems like all of the businesses in the area fight to control parking spots. I get it they are dog friendly and patrons can bring dogs. That part doesn't bother me. I didn't like how one guest had her small dog walking across the bar top. read more

1st time in Westmont and 1st at Whiskey Hill and as Arnhold would say, "I'll be back." Great service, room, food and more importantly great beer. We had the double cheeseburger w/side winder fries and everything was perfect. The beer selection was excellent as there's something for everyone. Rotating craft beers and if you come during the fall/winter you might be lucky enough to catch some of their barrel aged stuff that fly off the shelves unless you get a heads up. I was visiting a bestie and suggested we grab a flight somewhere. I looked up a couple nearby places and Whiskey Hill Brewing popped up so we headed over to check it out -- wow, did I hit the jackpot! This nice "chill vibe" place was nestled in an unsuspecting industrial and, best of all, it was serving up a super delicious current-tap menu! A flight of hazy, NEIPA, and milkshake and NE DIPAs? Breweries are everywhere. Most of them have taprooms now. Myths and Legends has one too, but it's nothing fancy. It checks all the boxes: tucked in an industrial park, wood everywhere, open to the brewery, friendly bartender with funky colored hair. The space isn't too big, and they don't have a lot of extras, but they do have great beer. I got a flight and really enjoyed everything, from light to dark. My husband had a gose he really enjoyed. This isn't an extensive review, but I definitely recommend it. Go, have fun, check it out and enjoy some very tasty beer. read more

Excellent brews and excellent people make for an excellent time. Whiskey Hill is tucked back in a small industrial area just off the main road. Their shared parking lot isn't huge, but does offer a few spaces with plenty of parking down the street. This place always has some really innovative beer and all of it is frankly delicious. They collaborate with other great local brewers - the result of which is a bunch of beer industry beer geeks that are greater than the sum of their parts. This also means you are going to get the newest and freshest ideas every time they create a new brew. The staff here is always super friendly and efficient, which pairs quite nicely with the beer. During the pandemic they have hand sanitizer at every table, the staff wears masks, the tasting room has a big open garage door, and there's a big tent outside to ease your concerns. Perfect spot for grabbing a drink during summer! Located in an industrial park type area, they open their large garage door and there are tables inside and outside. There were about 10 types of brew on tap the night I was there. They allow you to build your own flight if about 4-5 beers so you don't have to have beer FOMO. On the Saturday night I went, they had a karaoke host that was fantastic! Everyone seemed to have a great time and there was a good variety of music being played. Funny story, I was in Chicago a few weeks ago and went to Mikerphone Brewing. I even bought the shirt... Anyway, the next day I flew into Ontario, CA and was wearing my Mikerphone shirt as I got off the plane. A couple behind me commented on it and told me they owned Myths & Legends Brewing. Of course I had to look it up on Yelp and told myself the next time I was in the Chicago area I would stop in. If you hadn't guessed, that's where I'm going with this long-winded story. Don't worry it will get worse from here on out! Myths & Legends was easy to find although the parking was a bit tough. It's located in one of the ubiquitous light industrial areas which so many breweries seem to enjoy as their natural habitat. The taproom is small, cozy, and fun. I was the only one there for awhile and lucky me that it was brew day! So I enjoyed the amazing aromas while enjoying some fine beers. The standard flight is four beers. Here is a photo of the beers on tap at the time. I asked if there was anything they were particularly proud of and the charming young lady behind the bar told me they just got a new brewer. The beers on tap were brewed by their previous brewer but she suggested several and I followed her advice. The Pegasus Wing IPA was very smooth. Light hop aromas and very mild flavor. This is an easily drinkable IPA. Nothing exciting but solid and comfortable. The Devil & Jack was up next, described as a pumpkin cream lager. It was nice and clear with a light amber color. Very light pumpkin aroma and only a little pumpkin flavor. Of course I was still smelling the beer brewing so my sense of smell was a little overwhelmed. Wail of the Banshee! An imperial Irish red. It had a nice malty aroma and but was a little harsh at first sip. This beer is a 9.5% and it showed a little. I didn't love this one but it wasn't bad. Ok, the last beer was a 9.5, the Baba Yaga is a 10.1% Belgian special dark. Beautiful lacing. I even took a picture for you! The beer was good but not exceptional for me. Wheaty, flavorful, and alcoholic upfront. I expanded my four beer flight to a six beer flight because, well, that's what I do... The Duckhook Scottish ale. I always have to try a Scottish ale! Really nice head on the beer and everyone likes good head. This was a really nice malty ale. Nothing about it was particularly exciting, but it fit the style and was just damn tasty. Last, and I'm writing this as I taste them so we will see in a moment if it is least, was the Mugshot rye porter. I always like beers with rye as they have a nice spiciness to them. The spiciness was a little harder to detect in a porter but it was there. This was/is a good beer! (I should probably stick to one tense when writing a review but that would be too easy...) Ok, all in all Myths & Legends is definitely worth a stop. The beers are good and unlike many breweries now that try to make themselves stand out with gimmicky beers, Myths & Legends is just brewing good beer. I appreciate this! The taproom was welcoming and the staff that I spoke to, which was only the young lady behind the bar, was friendly. I highly recommend a stop in to Myths & Legends if you are in the area. They were much better than another option I hit in the area a couple of months ago. I won't mention the brewery in this review but if you are interested you can locate the review quickly. I visited Whiskey Hill Brewing on 6/24/22 in the late afternoon. I visit craft breweries as a hobby. Whiskey Hill is typical to many breweries in being located in an industrial park. For them, they also have somewhat limited parking. The inner decor is also typical to many breweries in having open air, a little grungy, and caters to patrons with dogs. My server was kind and helped me in picking my flight of 5; this was a little different as most brewery offer a flight of four. I believe the price for this flight was reasonable and comparable to other establishments. I was given a free brewery sticker when asked and Wi-Fi connection was solid. I was intrigued with the flight as several I picked were very full bodied with higher ABV. Of the two I tried that were lower ABV, a wheat and a Kolsch, both were very clean on the palate with a fruity aftertaste. Overall, I found the beer and range of selection very satisfying and would return if in the area again. read more

It was Saturday evening and I was sitting on the couch bored. I looked at my facebook news feed and noticed the "Chicago Pizza Boss" food truck was heading to the brewery from 5PM-9PM. I immediately was convinced I can not only order a delicious brick oven pizza, rather wash it down with some craft beers. The area is industrial and most of the businesses around appear to only be open weekdays only. It was plenty easy to find parking on a Saturday. Upon entering the door everyone said hello and I was not prepared for that. It was like walking into someone's house..LOL! I assumed everyone new each other so I went with it. I sat down and instantly engaged in multiple conversations. Before my first sip of the Otis Campbell - Double IPA I met couples from Downers Grove and Westmont. Way cool vibe considering I did not have to drive on a major highway towards Chicago. I was drinking local and loved every second of it. Following my double IPA, I fell in love with the Mugshot Brown Rye Porter. A darker coffee type appearance with a light body at roughly 5% ABV. Lastly I finished my evening with the Mother In Law an English bitter with about 4% ABV. Atmosphere was cozy, everyone talked openly and we even shared food off the Chicago Pizza Boss truck. Because you know it's all about the beer, bout the beer, no cocktails... This is where the big boys play. And by that I mean those who are in it for the beer. This local brewery is perfect for hanging out with fellow beer geeks. They have a tasting room and you can buy growlers to take home which is awesome. Straight up no frills at this place. Just a small warehouse space (with plans to expand) in an industrial area. You wouldn't know where this place was unless you looked it up (on yelp of course), or if you've taken your car to Lump & Sons Auto next door (see my correlating review for deets). They don't serve food, but a pretty awesome pizza food truck is typically around. The owners and managers are all awesome. They're super passionate about their beer and are very knowledgeable about the brewing process. Fun facts: - They are the first brewery in Illinois to brew completely electric. - The whole crew always gets together for chili and beer to brainstorm and vote on names for their new beers. A little hard to find on your first trip (if you get to 63rd and Vandustrial, you're close), but you'll know the way on your subsequent visits. Yeah, it's almost guaranteed you'll be coming back. Most importantly, the beer. They do not make a beer I do not like. They're known for their Krispy Karl stout (which is delicious), but their Belgians, IPAs, American ales, porters, red ales, etc., are creative and tasty. And they rotate their taps frequently. If you go one Friday and return the next, there will probably be something new to try. If Wire Transfer or Catherine the Great is on tap, for the love of God, get it! (UPDATE: Urban Legend no longer makes the Krispy Karl. 51st Ward Brewing is now the maker of Krispy Karl). Everyone who works here is super friendly. There is always good conversation happening, and usually they'll be playing some tunes in the background. It's a more intimate and fun atmosphere than at some other tasting rooms I've been to. No food served, but you can bring whatever you want to eat, and on most Saturday's there is a good chance a food truck will be parked right outside the front door. When the weather turns nice, they open the big door and have a little patio area. Maybe I'm a little biased because I basically come here once a week, but this is the epitome of what a microbrew tasting room should be. read more

Urban Legend is much like Solemn Oath as others have said; part brewery and part taproom. It was the middle of a Sunday afternoon, so we had no problems finding a seat, as it was just us and one lone patron. My husband had their "Step On It, Klaus!", a German Weizenbock and I, their "Hasen Fuss", a cream ale infused with grapefruit, pomegranate, and tangerine. It was like nothing I've ever tried before, but it was amazing! Before heading out, he also purchased some of their "Fain's Sword," a barrel aged Scottish ale. It was great to finally stop in, and I hope to do so again. I'm not too familiar with their beers but I look forward to trying more of them. read more

Relatively easy to find, and finally a brewery with substantial parking around it too! Big points for that. I tried two beers, the Sweet Lacey- Belgium Ale, and the Cream Ale. The sweet lacey did have a wheaty bite to it, which was a little shocking at first, but calmed down as you drank it. The Cream Ale I found a little bland actually, which isn't a word I've ever used to describe a beer! I'm not into IPAs and heavier beer, which limited my choices. The brewery itself was nice, actually had tables to sit at (another local brewery revelation), and the bartenders even though tending the bar, came out to our table frequently to offer refills. Prices were mostly in the $3.50 range, with their specialty beers costing $7. Pour sizes were 8 oz. They offered flights of 4, 4oz drinks for $9 as well. It was a nice place overall. read more

I've been here a couple of times with my friends and have not yet had a visit that disappointed. The beers are excellent, I must've tried everything the had on the board except for the sour, since I'm not a fan of cherries. The only downside is, the beer is good, therefore it sells out, and sometimes you can walk in and half the selections will be wiped out. That, however, is not the brewer's fault, so there will be no deduction for that. The atmosphere is also awesome, though I must say it is preferable in summer when the garage door can be open for breezes on a hot summer night. It's a great place to get together with a small group of friends and have some terrific conversations. Also, everyone behind the bar is very, very helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable. I couldn't ask for a better watering hole. Especially when I can grab a monstrous can or growler for home. read more

It goes like this. They're not a great brewery. But it's a cool enough spot that I'm compelled to stop in whenever I'm in the neighborhood, which isn't that often. The bad: I've been burned by their packaged to-go beer. They always taste old and not very good. I wouldn't recommend buying something you didn't already try on draft, because they do have their share of mediocre beer. The good: their beer isn't terrible. They have something drinkable to please most beer drinkers palate. I also enjoy the atmosphere, and the bartenders have been pretty nice. Still unsure why they deviated from the "Urban Legends" name. They should have at least changed it to "SUBURBan Legends" or something. But what's in a name, right? Cool spot. Okay beer. Wouldn't come from out of my way though. read more

First off, my apologies to Doug, Tug, and Mike... (You'll see why at the end of my review). It was a Wednesday night and I was able to get out of work a few hours early. With the extra time I wanted to go to some place I have never been. I remember seeing a tweet of Urban Legend's hours for the week. A QUICK check and I thought they would be open until ten. With that we headed out. After being to a few industrial park type brewing places I wouldn't say it was hard to find, but you do need to look for it. As we entered, no one was in sight. The door beeped and we soon met Doug. He came from behind the cooler area and seemed a little surprised to see us. We did not yet get why but he quickly recovered saying that they were having some issues with their mill and that today had turned into a 20 hour brew day. We told him this was our first time here and we'd like to have a flight so we could get the full Urban Legend Brewing experience. Doug was quick to start pouring and talking. He is a great host with lots of fun stories and he also was generous with his wealth of brewing knowledge/experience. We soon met his friend Tug that was working out of sight. Mike came in to drop off coffee and help them out as well. They discussed the recipe and brewing right in front of us - we felt privileged to see the action "behind the scenes." Heck, we even felt like we were involved. The atmosphere is that of a brewery. You are basically right there, in it, you get the smells, and you see all the shiny tanks. I think it would be utterly ridiculous to rate this place (or any place) based only on the beers. What if they have one beer you fall in love with? What if you don't like a certain one or style type? You have to go and try them, and of course they change. I must say Tree Hugger is a must try, it is earthy, savory, and unlike anything I have had! I found The Mother In Law to be very balanced, session-able (meaning you can have a few without becoming a sloppy drunk), yet still tasty. Doug also let us try some things that were not even complete yet. It was a great experience, and I truly did not want to leave. As we ended our night we left and Doug made a joke about coming back when they were open. We walked out not even getting it.... When we got home, it didn't hit me until I was brushing my teeth. It was a WEDNESDAY. The hours I looked at were for Thursday. They were closed. Thanks to Doug for having us, and next time we'll make sure you are REALLY open. read more

My husband and I went here on a Friday night and were shocked to find the place almost empty. I can't believe it. The beer is fantastic! They've got a ton of different styles, including limited edition stuff that they don't distribute. I will DEFINITELY be going back. No food, but they let you bring your own, if desired. Went to Whiskey Hill last night with a group of friends. This group has been to nearly a dozen microbreweries over the past 12 months and Whiskey Hill ranks at near the top, if not, the top. The beer is very good but more than that is the attitude, friendliness, and care taken by the guy behind the bar. You can see the attention that he has when pouring you a beer. He brings your table carafes of water without being asked. He tells you that if you decide to order dinner from local restaurants which restaurants you need to ask for plates, napkins, etc. It's more than the beer that makes this place good. Urban Legend Brewing Co is another fantastic brewery in the suburbs that you must check out if craft beer is your thing. UL isn't hard to find. It's in an industrial park, like Solemn Oath and Church Street, so the taproom is part seating, part brewery. The bartenders are super friendly and definitely eye candy for the men. They're super sweet and know their beers, so I don't mind. Dominic P. and I stopped in on Saturday night for a casual "date night." The bartender immediately suggested a sampler. 4 samples, at 4 ounces each, is only $9. The regular pours are inexpensive as well. These are the beers we tried: Monks Challenge Weizenbock Sweet Lacey's Revenge Belgian ale Skylla's Grasp, a hopped pale ale Hassenfuss cream ale My favorite was the Skylla's Grasp, which I believe also won #1 at some beer show. Sorry so vague, I was too busy enjoying my beer to read all the details. It has a definite citrus taste without being too fruity. Urban Legend is cool with their customers bringing in food, as there are sometimes food trucks in the lot. There are also free bar snacks to munch on, and sorry I'm not sorry that I hogged the cheeseballs... Seating is limited to a few stools at the bar and three or four tables, but there is also plenty of standing room. Urban Legend is a cool place all around. Reminds me a lot of Church Street Brewery in Itasca...small taproom, great people, lots of food truck opportunities, and decent beer. When we showed up the food truck wasn't there yet, but some other patrons were tailgate grilling in the parking lot and were willing to share. Beer brings out the nice in people, apparently. Well, beers 1-3 at least...after that, you never know what you're going to get. Either way, thanks strangers! You have a couple of options for drankin' here: A flight of four 4 oz. pours (limited to brews that don't have insane ABV's) or an 8 oz. pour of anything on the board. I think they had 6-8 options available. I ended up just grabbing two 8 oz. pours of the IPAs on tap: Cooper's Parachute (American IPA) and The Creature (Black IPA). Both were surprisingly hoppy...even their stout had an IBU of around 90. EXCELLENT. I'm pretty sure you have to start a tab with a credit card here...not sure if you can use cash. Not like that's a problem for me because I use my debit card for a $1 gum purchase. I have no shame. read more

I wish I had caught her name, but this was an awesome experience. Being out of town, we were a little uncomfortable coming in. Our beer tender was so welcome! She not only answered all of our new-to-questions (like where to get the best pizza!) but really knew her beer. My fiance and I were so happy with our visit. We ordered a flight of everything. Aside from their light beer (as expected) they were all very good. I'm definitely a fan of The Creature, their black IPA. Their New England style IPA was a first for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I ended up grabbing 3 different bottles to take home to LA with me. Considering that I have a one bottle per brewery rule that I imposed on myself, that should tell you something about the quality. It's OK, no biggie. There are much better options out there. Had the Big Dummy brew, very good, but the rest of the flight I had, average at best. For the record, I tried Tree Hugger, Catherine the Great, Hasen Fuss, and the Creature. The Creature is their signature brew, they even painted their VW van to represent it. But unfortunately, it's just OK Not bad mind you, but nothing to warrant a special trip back. If I'm close I will probably stop by, but I won't go out of my way... They should spend less time painting their VW bus to appear cool, and produce a stellar brew... my 2 cents. read more

Underrated brewery that I haven't heard much about. I tried all six beers on tap and they ranged from a Cold War 11.8% Russian Imperial to a limited beer with a cinnamon and apricot profile. It is a small tap room with about 6-8 bar seats and 4-5 tables. We were the only ones there for awhile so it was comfortable and our bar tender was awesome. Here is the skinny: Flights - 4 beers for $9 (up charge of $1 for higher ABV beers) 8oz pours - $3-$4+ depending on the beer Bombers - YES, $7-$20 ones that you can take to go OR open and drink in the tap room Growlers - $5 for the growler - $20-$25 for a fill typically (it is pretty steep) Howlers - $11-$13.50 for a fill. I think Cold War was $49 for a growler and $29 for a Howler or something. They had bar snacks (chex mix) for free there and live music playing. Great beer, people and all around atmosphere. I spent about $45 with tip for a flight, two 8oz pours and two bombers. They are serve wine and water there for those curious. read more

Why did I wait so long to check this place out? Seriously! Urban Legend is less than 10 minutes away from me and it took over 7 months to finally check out their brewery. The place is tiny! There is a total of 3 high tops, and 8 seats around the bar, but if you are a beer nerd this is a must see. The beer is tasty! I was really impressed with their bourbon barrel stout (which I generally don't opt for) and their fruity double IPA Otis. I felt a little out of place being one of the only girls around a bar with just men, but after a beer, and having them realize I was a nerd at heart like them, it was really comfortable. In fact, Doug, one of the brewers, told me I could come check out their brewing process anytime I wanted (and trust me I will take that offer up!). Urban Legend has been a hit at the bar I work at and I'm sure it will continue to grow! I can't wait to see what else they decide to brew up. Bottom line: CHECK IT OUT!! read more

Outstanding beer. Incredibly nice and friendly people. These guys know what they are doing... It approaches 3 Floyds quality. Multiple beers on tap, with an excellent bitter, great rye porter, and an outstanding big Red Ale. I really love this brewery. They usually have 6-7 different beers on tap with decent descriptions, with typically a couple changing out each week. Whoever's behind the bar is good at steering people to something they'll like, and very willing to talk about the beer styles. Plus there's always the option of a sampler if you just want to try a variety. The obvious downside is that they are too popular for their own good - they've just about outgrown the space in both brewing capacity and (on busy nights) seating capacity. Apparently they open the garage door in warmer months and expand outside, so I'm looking forward to summer there! read more

This is a nice little micro brewery tucked away inside a super industrial park. The first time we visited we drove by a few times before we figured out where Urban Legend actually is. They've got a good selection of beers on tap. I think my favorite is the "Love Gift" brown ale, but I've enjoyed all of the beers I've had here. A few were too hoppy for my friends, but I really liked them all. read more
