    Alterior Motive And Potato Chips
    Steve A.

Bought a few beers at this brewery in Downers Grove. It has a few locations with this being the first of these. Alter has kind of a funny way to get to it. Kind of hidden on the side of a warehouse in some industrial park. The prices are pretty good for local stuff. A busy place in spite of how hard it can be to find. It's one of those breweries you find in unexpected places but get rewarded when finding it. There's a good amount of space inside so it can handle large groups and parties. Good prices for the beers. It's about $7 a pint. Best we had of these was the Altetior Motive. This is an IPA that has notes of pines and raisins. It's about $2 for snacks like potato chips. The food here is limited except when a food truck has a visit, usually on weekends. Has various events. Trivia night is on Tuesdays, and they have live music. For sure it's worth looking for and getting beers. It's located close to the Belmont Metra station. There's not really anything to eat but they often have food trucks.

Alter Brewery is a great place to grab a brew and spend some time on a Friday night. Alter makes great beer. Lots of cool fruit-infused hefeweizens. You can bring your own food, which is a great way to go out. We ordered delivery from Dans, which was great pizza. The combo was perfect. Other than the high-decibel golf bros surrounding us, it was a very good experience. They eventually mostly left and ordered a massive number of Domino's pizzas, which was their loss. They have a lovely covered patio with "live music" that night (I'll be kind). You can't do much about 90-degree heat and 90% humidity, but that's not their fault--it's Illinois in the summertime. The sausage, pepperoni, Barbecue bacon, onion, and sausage pizzas were thin, crisp, and delicious. Great beer, great pizza, and air conditioning--it all rocks! Bar service was fast and efficient. Highly recommended wherever you choose to eat and drink it.

On a recent trip to the Chicago area, we visited Alter Brewery. Plenty of beer choices, and you can bring your own food. I ordered a King Balaton, Cherry Wheat Ale, and my husband ordered a King Squeeze, a lemon and cherry wheat ale. Both were tasty and refreshing. They offer some appetizers, plus a kiosk to order from Dan's Pizza, which was a great choice. The covered patio has live music on weekends, and the indoor space is large and lively. It was hot, so we sat inside with a noisy but festive post-golf crowd. Great place. Great beer.

Love the outdoor space and light lager is my favorite....light & refreshing! Don't forget your friends and games when you visit this brewery

Met friends Tuesday night for Trivia Night with my daughter and I. Parking was easy, outside seating was nice, plenty of seating in the initial entrance of the brewery as well as once we worked our way to the back to where trivia night was. The crowd unfortunately wasn't that diverse, which ultimately also explained why trivia wasn't as well, however that was completely separate from the brewery experience itself. I'm not a beer drinker so I had an Arnold Palmer however my table really enjoyed all of their different flavored beers. Very nice establishment

With the onset of the governors mandate, I decided to visit my favorite place Alter for a beer, Alter Brewing in Downers Grove. It's been a long work day and a wake to attend, I thought I'd take in a good beer before dinner and the first game in the World Series. I had the delicious and appropriate named F.U. Covid beer. I wasn't disappointed. Met with the best bar tender Mike. Greatest guy and attentive to business. Mallory, the event planner was filling me in on all the goings on and decided to make a change to my upcoming event. Easily personal distancing and with a few TVs it's the place to be. Stop in and let them know I sent you.

A large outdoor and indoor seating available the indoor is filled with wood and metal to give it an industrial look with amber lighting for a relaxing feel. Outdoor seating is comfortable with the lights giving it a nice feel. The beer selection is good along with the cider food is available also they are large with three levels great for an event

    This is the DIPA sweet.

First time in and it is very comfortable. Not to quite, not to loud, just right. Looks like they keep a good rotation of beers going. They dont have a kitchen so they do the food truck thing once a week. Typical board games available if you want to just kick it with some friends Pros: - good beer, 12 taps all variety of beer. - people are friendly and engaging - comfortable atmosphere - all beer brewed on site Cons: - no kitchen - not much for the kid's to do - could have a couple more Hazy 's ( but that's on me)

I love a beer place with plenty of sampling options. You have the option of 5, 12 & 16 oz pours. They also offer crowlers & growler fills. They also have a barrel aged flight. My husband had that & enjoyed all. I had the IPA, very solid IPA. They offer bar snacks & special events. Space is open and clean. There was a couple w a baby in around mid afternoon, environment was totally chill & appropriate.

Ask the Community - Alter Brewing Company

Hello! Do you serve any other alcoholic beverages besides beer (cider, seltzer, wine, etc)?

Hi there! We usually have our own hard seltzer on tap and stock a couple different cans of hard cider.

    Why no food?

Hey John! Our Downers Grove location is a taproom and production brewery and just wasn't set up to have a kitchen. That said, we do have occasional food trucks and are exploring food options in the future. You're also welcome to bring in your own…

    Are pets allowed?

Hey Mike! Unfortunately pets are not allowed in our taproom.

They have a lot of board games to borrow, pinball machines and multiple TVs usually playing some live sports. The best part about this place though is the staff - we've met the owner a few times when we're in, and have a favorite bartender who always seems to be here when we come. They are absolutely incredible and seem like just good people. For those who become regulars, the Draft Class membership is definitely worth it if you can snag one!

NINETY-NINE BOTTLES OF BEER ON THE WALL…read more This bottle shop in downtown Downers Grove has a myriad of craft options. Prior to last weekend, every time I walked past Orange & Brew the lights were still off (they don't open until noon) so I had no choice but to peer longingly thru the windows into a dark business. I finally stopped in during normal hours with the family in tow on the first Saturday in August. I got a mix-and-match 4pk of IPAs + pilsners for my dad, who has oft complained about the lack of decent brewskis at my house. Well Opa, now you've got a quartet of 16oz craft cans to pick from, so no more grumbling about "only shitty light beer" in the downstairs fridge! They have a large cooler for people to take beer to-go. My wife grabbed a 4pk of rosé hard cider ($13) which she later claimed tasted too much like kombucha. I found it refreshing, like a Woodchuck or Strongbow with a gorgeous deep purple hue. Of course I had to play their four pinball tables on the left side ($1 per game). They had a Stranger Things (with snazzy UV kit upgrade!), Deadpool, 007, and Rick & Morty. The first three are newer Sterns that play decently, but R&M is a strange design from Spooky Pinball that I've yet to figure out. * TL;DR * Take one down, pass it around.....that'll be $6, please! Orange & Brew shares plenty of similarities with Beer Shop in Oak Park: brews on tap, assorted brews in bottles on a shelf, and a fridge full of cold brews to take home. The biggest difference is that O&B has pinball tables, and that bumps them up a star. The guy behind the counter who tapped my beer didn't smile (or even say thanks) when we cashed out. I got the feeling he was apprehensive about my wife and I bringing our 4yo & 1yo kids in here, probably afraid they'd crack open and chug a beer without paying. But seriously, they were very well behaved. If I'm in the area and Orange & Brew is open, I'm definitely stopping in for a cold pint and a few games of pinball. Check them out!

Even so, a pretty good price for a small brewery. Has many to choose from. Best was the 7 Mile Bridge. It's a Belgian Weisse with key lime, toasted coconut, and vanilla. A lot of lime flavor.
