Came here for the cinnamon buns as this place was on my list for YEARS! I was surprised to see the variety they had there. I went for the cinnamon bun with cream cheese on the side and a mini lemon pound cake. I was quite disappointed with the cinnamon bun. It was hard and quite thin compared to the ones I've had at other places. It was too sticky and chewy for my taste and I don't think the cream cheese elevated it, other than adding extra moisture. The only item that saved my review from going lower is the mini lemon pound cake. I thought it was well made and really cute! The lemon icing is so good and compliments and pound cake well. If you are looking for an authentic NYC Jewish deli then look no further. Solly's have good bagels and some of the best corned beef I have had outside of NYC. I will say however, their portions are small, 5 potato chips with your sandwich and dished out with bare hands anyone? The egg salad, while flavorful, was skimpy. I also feel they are overpriced. I spend over $20 for one corned beef on rye and a small coffee. They have your typical bagel selection which is not huge; basics like plain and everything but would like to see a larger selection. The garnish, as noted in a previous review was a gloveless small handful of kettle chips and slice of dill pickle. The sandwich itself was terrible. Meat, not a ton, was chopped, which dried it out, so not a pile of juicy, steaming meat. Tasteless. A very thin slice of Swiss and maybe a tablespoon of sauerkraut, also no taste emanating. There was a grill, but the sandwich was not grilled. Slices of bread were toasted, meat and cheese were warmed in the grill and the sandwich then assembled with a sauce inside. This review reflects a first and one time experience. I was surprised to read so many reviews stating unprofessional/abusive behaviour of the owner toward staff. I didn't see or experience any of that. On the contrary the staff behind the counter were all calm, collected and attending to their work and when the owner did come out she seemed chill and friendly. I'm not saying that's the way it always is, but I didn't experience any unprofessional demeanor from the owner. The Lox Bagel was fresh, well put together and tasty. I also love the amount of Israeli items they have that are imported. I was looking for a kosher deli and finally I found one in Vancouver. Their lunch items are plenty and so are their breakfast items. definitely going back to try their other items on the menu! read more

The customer ahead of me, who also witnessed this, said the trainee appeared to be doing a good job, and then the Training Manager barked back at this customer as well. While my order was being rung in the Training Manager was whispering & gossiping with the cashier about how poorly the new trainee was doing...the whole experience really soured my lunch, enough so that I'm now here writing this review. If this woman is the owner I will never be able to visit this location again. So disappointed. read more

Not a bad spot for some goodies and light meals. This spot kind of reminds me of a place in Toronto called "What a bagel" because it's also a Jewish bagel/bakery joint Plenty of seats inside and out. I ended up getting a cinnamon bun with cream cheese icing and a mishmash bagel with chive and garlic cream cheese. I enjoyed both but I was a little bit disappointed in the taste of the cinnamon bun. Although it was soft, and moist, I didn't think it was "the best" because I thought it lacked that cinnamon flavour. If you have a big sweet tooth like me, make sure to get the cream cheese otherwise, it has the perfect sweet balance. The bagel and cream cheese was good, nothing outstanding. I made a pickup order with a cashier and moved to the area where I was supposed to pick up my order, as instructed by the cashier. The store manager asked me to move back to the cashier to make my order. After I told her I'm waiting to pick up my order, she apparently had a problem understanding me and started yelling that I should go to the cashier. I'm not sure if she has a language problem, or if it is just an attitude. I'm a business owner and honestly, I would fire her immediately. She's not an asset but a liability. I have been going to sollys since I was a kid, I went in for the first time a while and while waiting for my food, the owner came in, yelling at her staff, pulling down her mask under her chin so they could hear her. She never at any point was fully wearing her mask. As my food was being prepared she didn't have her mask on fully and grabbed the food from the person serving me (after just simply running her hands under water.) Times have changed and running your hands under some water isn't enough. I wanted to ask for a new one as I don't know where she had been and her hands were not clean while handling my food; but the poor kids looked scared. Super disappointed, it's been pretty known around Vancouver that the service has never been great at sollys but we always go back cause the food is so good, but this really put me off. read more

This might seems super petty, but considering that this is a bagel shop, you would think they would be pros at cutting a bagel in half. Mine was 80-20 proportion of top and bottom, and jagged. Ordered the cinnamon bun and a cappuccino. Had the bun warmed up as recommended and honestly this was one of the best cinnamon buns I've ever had! Sweet and crispy outside and super soft and fluffy on the inside. Baked perfectly, not too sweet, not dry at all, it was very very good. The cappuccino was good too by the way lol! Oh Solly's. I want to love you, I really do. But there's just so much gone wrong over the years. First, it's the service. Last time I was in, I placed my bagel sandwich order to an unsmiling person who barely spoke to me. I felt like my presence was somehow unwanted there. Not everyone is like that, but it seems very hit and miss. If it's not an unhappy employee, it's other missteps like forgetting the icing to the cinnamon bun (the horror) or forgetting my coffee. Next, the food. The cinnamon buns are still very good, though sometimes it's more hard on the outside than I would like. The bagels are also a mainstay, hard to go wrong. But the bagel sandwiches and "eggels" (bagels with eggs) can sometimes taste off -- sloppily thrown together, ingredients not meshing well. Then, the atmosphere. It can be pure and utter chaos. The seating can be difficult because it's so popular, tables and chairs get moved around, toys strewn everywhere. Make sure you go during off hours. read more

I've always wanted to try Solly's but it's a bit out of the way for me so I didn't get the chance eat one until my coworker brought a dozen into work the other day with a whole tub of their famous dill cream cheese! I was so happy that I ended up eating an entire bagel smothered with cream cheese while everybody else only had a quarter or half! Anyways, we have a mini toaster oven in our office so I cut the bagel horizontally in half and toasted it before smothering it in the dill cream cheese. I can honestly say that this bagel was just as good as the delicious ones that I have eaten in Montreal and in New York! I am tempted to give them 5/5 but I feel that their prices are a bit high (based on the website) and I'm not sure how often I would want to eat such a heavy breakfast item (or lunch I guess!) I would definitely recommend trying this place (I think there are multiple locations) and if I ever get the chance to physically go there myself, I want to try their giant cinnamon buns! read more

Absolute terrible customer service. I ordered 6 different bagels, and did not think to double check my own order... what a mistake that was. I walked an hour home and then realized that the cashier gave me all the wrong bagels. I called them and explained to them the situation. "Reias" helped me and insisted that she double checked the order with me (there is no way she did this or I would have noticed they were the wrong bagels). aw continued to tell me that the mistake was was my fault as I walked out with the bagels. She would not provide me any remedy other than to walk an hour back and trade the bagels. Instead of offering a Refund, she simply told me where was nothing she could do. i have worked in many restaurants and I've never seen an issue handled so terribly with no remedy and no manager on duty to soeak with either. avoid this place like the plague!!! read more

My longterm love affair with Solly's has come to an end. And it was a bad breakup. Despite the declining service, quality of food, and questionable cleanliness, especially over the past 2 years, I still continued to support Solly's. Their dill schmear and potato & onion knishes I will miss; the matzo balls once defrosted that could still break a window and the stale challah, I will not. As a longterm and frequent customer, I have heard the owner/manager eviscerate her staff (always "in training") on many, many occasions. The staff, who are always new because the owner is impossible to work for and/or with, are continually berated in front of customers and coworkers. A sign appeared in November of last year regarding orders. I misread one of the lines as "lowering your expectations", which I thought humorous because it actually would make ordering (and eating) at Solly's a far less frustrating process. It actually says "exceptions". The last line asks that customers be kind and patient with their employees. Boss lady, you are not doing a very good job of following that point yourself! After hearing the tirade three times over that was unleashed on a very overwhelmed looking trainee, I decided to speak up. Bad idea. I told her that her trainee was "trying her best"; evidently this was not something we agreed on. Not only did she tell me why her employee was not doing her best, she stated her staff were incapable of following food safe, and started making personal attacks on me. At this point I had no reservations in informing her that the treatment of her staff is completely unacceptable and I would no longer be making any purchases at Solly's. To write the innumerable (and bizarre) statements that followed and were directed my way is not worth my time -- suffice it to say, I have NEVER experienced or witnessed any other restaurant owner or manager treat their staff, or customers, that way and I am certain I won't see it again. Save for an episode or two of Kitchen Nightmares. Solly's: I can't, I won't, and I don't recommend that you do either. read more

I would give this place no stars if possible. The treats are okay but you can get a sugar fix at many places who treat their employees and customers with respect. The owner is terrible. She yelled at everyone in line to stand 6 feet apart when they were already doing so. She did this while two inches away from a trembling employee and while not wearing a mask near the food. The wreak of hypocrisy trumps anything emanating from the kitchen. The staff are all timid women who looked to be terrified of the owner. One can only imagine the hostilities directed at these lovely employees given the rudeness directed at the customers. An owner that demonstrates such low regard for others makes me question the food safety.
