    Montreal Smoked Meat Platter- Small

AMAZING! Always delicious! Been going to this place for years and always tastes wonderful

Tried their signature Montreal smoked bagel. Meat was hot and tasty, but this thing is bagel sized. Thought they'd at least use a larger bagel. Probably the most expensive sandwich I've had in years. Knock 1 star off in terms of value. I left hungry. Oh well, at least they included a pickle slice.

If this is what your bagels are going to look like , you really should rename your them half poppy seeds or half sesame!

I found this little shop while walking around Kitsilano and saw the lineup almost backing out into the parking lot. Loved my Montreal smoked meat on a bagel. The bagel was perfectly toasted, crispy, and chewy with that hint of sweetness Montreal-style bagels are known for. The smoked meat was steaming, reasonably lean, and delicious. The spicy mustard gave the sandwich just enough of a kick. Plys, the sandwich was piled high - I can only imagine how stuffed the large version would be. The ambiance is not much to speak of - there are a few seats indoors and outdoors. It's definitely a to-go place. Service is friendly. I would definitely return for another sandwich or just to get some bagels.

Taste: 4.7/5 The bagels here are classic Montreal style--smaller, thinner, and sweeter. They offer a solid variety of flavors and cream cheeses. I had the Lox & Cream Cheese on an everything bagel, and while the ratio of toppings was pretty standard, I could've used just a bit more lox. The club sandwich on a sesame bagel had a great blend of flavors, and the egg-tomato-cheddar on an everything bagel had a perfectly cooked egg (no runny mess) and the cheddar itself was really good. All of them, the bagels itself were the stars--perfectly baked--and the egg was cooked just right (no runny mess). Price: 3.5/5 The bagels themselves are reasonably priced, but the cream cheese adds up, especially for the flavored ones (I paid $5.25 for one!). The sandwiches are on the pricier side, but it's definitely worth it as an occasional treat. Service: 4.1/5 The cashier was really kind when I changed my mind mid-order, which made the experience smoother. Both the ordering and waiting lines moved quickly, even with a decent crowd. If you come early, there's usually no wait, and even when there is, it doesn't take long. Vibes/Atmosphere: 5/5 A must-try on Granville Island! This bagel spot feels like a staple of the market, and I'll always make a stop when I'm here. It's got that cozy, bustling vibe that makes it part of the island's charm.

    Breakfast bagel on an everything

I've been here twice, and it's a great breakfast option when you're on the go. The breakfast bagel with salami, cheese, and egg is yummy. However, the bagels aren't the best; both times they've been a little dense and dry.

Lox and cream cheese bagel Honestly not as good as I expected it to be... The bagel itself tasted a little bland. It was also harder than i thought it would be and hard to take a bite out of. The capers were also lost, I could see them but I couldn't taste them. I liked the cream cheese the most and everything felt a bit lost. The bagel itself also overpowered the salmon. Many of their other bagel sandwiches look packed with ingredients though so I would like to revisit for a second opinion.

After years of hearing the hype. I thought I should give this place a try. As a Montrealer who moved to Vancouver a decade ago. I simply accepted there was never a bagel that would own my tastebuds and heart as much as a Montreal bagel. I ordered my usual Montreal order: poppyseed toasted.... I must say. This bagel left me speechless. Tasted like home. 5 stars easily; My only regret was only ordering one. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Smoked anything hits different in Vancouver. It's smoked but doesn't have that intense smoked flavor that I really don't care for. Montreal Smoked meat....WOW! Shipped directly from Montreal weekly. I was really hesitant to get this but the thought of tasting something from Montreal peaked my interest. So I got a Montreal smoked meat on a onion bagel, no mustard add Mayo and cream cheese.....damn this sandwich was sooo good. I honestly wished I got a large to get more smoked meat or at least got 2 sandwiches. The meat was so flavorful, no fat and no smoked flavor with the crispy yet chewy bagel, delish. Best thing I ate at Vancouver! I wished I didn't wait to try Siegel's on my last day and hours before my flight. Because I literally can eat the Montreal smoked meat sandwich everyday!

    Don't let this fool you.
We got served frozen, old-stale bagels.

Uhmmm....I honestly don't know what to say....which rarely happens. I adore a nice fresh bagel first thing in the morning and when I googled this place I was curious to try it out. I wish I hadn't. The service: I think she might have been sleep walking and stumbled her way to the cash register. Let's leave it there. The food: So, they have a wood burning oven but it's just for show. Both our bagels were not only frozen but old and stale and the egg was not fresh either. Their mini raspberry chocolate croissants were also old. All of what we ordered was of such poor quality and deceptive that we returned it and got our money back. We ended up going to our usual Jewish bagel deli where everything is fresh and served with a smile. Yeah.....fresh and with a smile....think about it! I wonder what they do with that wood burning oven if it's not giving customers fresh bagels?!

Veggie Lox + Cream Cheese Bagel, Apricot Almond Rugelach

A friend has been hyping this place up for YEARS, and finally I tried it. I think these are supposed to be Montreal-style bagels, but mine didn't really compare to the bagels I had in Montreal (the ones in Montreal were sweeter). However, if I'm not comparing, it was a very good bagel. There were lots of things I was into with the menu here: a wide selection of bagels, vegan options including veggie "lox" and dairy-free cream cheeses (plural - not just one), and they have a few different kinds of rugelach too. I got a veggie lox + cream cheese on a caraway bagel with the dairy-free lemon dill cream cheese, an apricot almond rugelach, and a decaf coffee. The carrot imitation lox was very tasty as was the cream cheese, and I loved the caraway bagel even if it wasn't what I expected from a Montreal-style bagel - it was very fresh. The rugelach was different from what I've had in the past, the dough was more like a bread dough and less puff pastry, less sweet, and I liked this version more. The apricot filling was juicy and delicious. My coffee was very basic (which is what I'd expect at a bagel place) but good, didn't taste old or bitter. We were there shortly after noon and they were busy, so it took a minute to get our food, but it does seem like they have an efficient workflow set up to keep the wait reasonable. Nice people. It's not very big inside - there are two tables plus a bar along the window, and a few more tables outside. Most people were ordering to go, so we got one of the tables.

Rosemary rock salt and cinnamon raisin bagels
    Carolyn L.

I am not sure what to expect of the bagels which have received high praise from many. As I was in the area, I decided to try it. I was not wow by the bagels. I had the Reuben on poppy seed bagel. That was tasty. It was probably due more to the meat than the bagel itself. Never get poppy seed again as the seed got stuck to the front of my teeth aplenty. My fault. I also ordered the cinnamon raisin and sundried tomato bagels. Unfortunately I was only told it was unavailable after I had paid and was waiting for them. So I had to find an alternative -- rosemary rock salt. I thought the bagels were just ok, soft and a bit gummy. Maybe that was the way it was supposed to be? I felt it was a bit similar to Rosemary Rock Salt bagels with the softness. I will only try it again if I am in the area, not something I will drive out for. Note: The staff had no idea about the Yelp "check in discount", and did not honor it.

I travel a it for work and like to read the local guides. When one reviewer stated, "They ship the Smoked Meats in once a week from Montreal and bake fresh Montreal Bagels, this NJ Jew was sold. It was even better than expected. The thinly sliced smoked brisket was very tender and juicy. The onion bagel slightly sweet. Extra mustard for me. I told my husband if I had time before my flight in the morning I'd bring him a half dozen home to Oakland, Ca to compare with our local favorites, Botchnick's (New York Style) and Beauties (Montreal) for a taste test. Try the Ruggahla too!

We found this as our initial destination had an absurd wait, and we left satisfied and pleasantly surprised. I saw pics online of what appeared to be large, juicy, and crispy fried chicken sandwiches sporting local hot sauces as the secret ingredients, and that's what brought us in. We ordered the crispy chicken sandwich with the Hot Duck chili crisp on it. Upon the bartenders rec we opted for the extra hot, which was a good call because it didn't really pack a punch to us chili heads, but had great flavor. The chicken was juicy and crispy, and the brioche bun was so soft and fluffy. All around a good sandwich, but we found it strange that they only offered it with chips, and no upgrade to fries, which were available as an add on order. As we ate our sandwich and waffle fries we realized there was no smell of oil in the air or sounds of a fryer, which had us scratching our heads. We looked for a hood too and noticed none. Eventually we realized that everything here is commercially air fried, which was both fun to learn and somewhat surprising. If this place had a fryer, it would be SO much better, but considering this limitation, it was solid. The sauce selection was huge too. I loved that you could taste them all and that they offered some amazing deals too. We found a few that warranted us checking a bag on the way back so we could enjoy them on the other side of the border, and I'm stoked they offer online ordering and shipping so we can get some more when they run out. All in all a solid experience. Staff was so friendly and accommodating. As a hot sauce store, this is a 5 star experience, as a restaurant, also good but just have the right expectations.
