I opted to take it home and toast it myself and the staff was wonderful in accommodating- putting the cream cheese in a container (I opted to try two different cream cheese flavours). The only downside was that they only offer 1 flavour of gluten friendly bagels (the gf rosemary) despite the menu saying they have 3 varieties. Unfortunately the blueberry cheesecake cream cheese didn't pair well with it but the smoked salmon cream cheese was amazing. read more

Grabbing a bagel sandwich here fulfills some subconscious desire to be a real city girl picking up a bite on errand day. Mont-Royal's meat was probably the best mtl smoked meat I've ever had - not at all dry with a healthy (not too overpowering) amount of mustard, but I've yet to visit Montreal. The Steveston is a great option as well. Do be careful when you unwrap your 'wich~ the pickle and its juices might spill out. Got a half dozen of blueberry bagels to bring home to enjoy (spoiler: I did in fact enjoy them) It's a little pricey for the size but quality and service both have been great at my two visits so far, so I'll def be back again when I'm in the area :3 read more

Our daughter and I were searching for brunch with Grandma. The place we had originally hoped to go to had a super long lineup so we decided to just pick some other place that was nearby, easy to park at and didn't have a lineup! We ended up at Rosemary Rocksalt which is a bagel bakery known for making Montreal style bagels. They have a huge variety of bagels to choose from, including a rainbow coloured bagel!  Grandma just ordered a bagel with some butter spread on to it while our daughter had a Yaletown Breakfast Bagel with a side order of poutine and I had a Steveston Bagel Sandwich. We were quite impressed with the food, and before we'd even left the shop my daughter was already saying that she'd like to come back there again sometime! While I was there, I also picked up a Too Good To Go bag. For $5.99 I brought home a bag that had 12 bagels in it. They were all the same flavor of bagel. It was their namesake bagel, the Rosemary Rocksalt. I have to say that I am quite impressed with this bagel. To begin with, when I purchase a Too Good to Go bag, I am fully accepting from the beginning that the food I get is unlikely to be fresh. By the time I came home with our Too Good to Go bag, we were full from a day of eating and didn't have time or room in our tummies to try out any of these bagels, so it was another day before we actually got to try these bagels. I toasted it up though, and was still very happy with both the texture and the flavor of the bagel! The rosemary flavor is wonderful and very pronounced!  We couldn't eat so many bagels in such a short amount of time so we ate what we could over the next day or two and put the rest in the freezer. When I took one out of the freezer and toasted it up for breakfast it was definitely not as good as fresh but...for a frozen bagel, I was still pretty happy with it!  Highly recommend the Rosemary Rocksalt bagels! read more

Cute little bagel shop along Lonsdale. I know Roasemary Rocksalt is part of the empire of Ken Sim and his businesses. On top of that, it is interesting to see how the company is doing after 10 years after our yelp elite party. The style of the bagels hasn't changed and on top of that they added 2 cream chesses since back then. Cute. The service was quick and easy, as the lady who attended to me was very attentive with me. On top of that she answered my questions promptly. Not a bad place for a quick bagel and for some quick bites, but at the same time it is expensive. I saw their bagel "sandwiches" as they are hitting almost $16 for some deli cut meats and bread. I just wanted something small and quick, so i just ordered a quick bagel and cream cheese. It wasn't the worst of flavours, but it is delicious and a quick morning snack before work. I would just give the Veggie Spread on Everything Bagel a 6.5/10. Not the worst, neither it is the best. read more

Needed some food before hiking Garibaldi Lake, so yelped this place and got some bagels. I got a Hastings sunrise breakfast sandwich with meat, egg, and cheddar on a rosemary rocksalt bagel. That was good! The rosemary flavor was very heavy which I liked. I opted for an everything bagel to take on the hike. Unfortunately, the bagel was rock hard when I got around to eating it. The predominant flavor that I tasted was poppy seed, not really anything else. Street parking out in front. Rosemary Rocksalt has been a bagel shop I've been meaning to try out for a while now but we were finally in the neighbourhood so we decided to get a few to try out! Rosemary Rocksalt offers a variety of different bagel flavors and sandwiches to choose from. Since we were taking them home we decided to stick with the basics. I noticed right away that the bagels had a bigger hole in the center than other bagels I've had before! They were also a lot smaller than commercially bought bagels. The sides were thinner too so there was not as big of a surface area for us to spread cream cheese or other toppings on when we ate them toasted. When we cut into the bagel, you could see that the crumb was quite dense. It was also thoroughly coated with toppings and golden brown colour on the top and bottom of the bagel. We liked that they paid attention to this and ensured that the bagels were thoroughly coated. read more

Visiting Vancouver and thought I would give this place a try as I absolutely love bagels. This is why my score is only 2. The cafe itself was clean, organized and the staff were friendly and helpful. The menu has great variety for us bagel snobs and the price range is fair. It's not cheap but it's not expensive either. I decided to try their WHISTLER Breakfast Bagel on the Rosemary Rock Salt Bagel, which is their trademark. The packaging was very tasteful and the branding absolutely dead on and the ingredients were fresh. However, a couple of bites into the bagel I quickly realized that the bagel was completely RAW on the inside. It was difficult at first to see and taste, because it's covered with cream cheese, but nevertheless, the texture and taste of RAW DOUGH presented itself, and as I scraped off the cream cheese it was apparent that this bagel was completely undercooked. In food, raw dough whether it's a pizza or any other pastry....is a huge disappointment....not to mention risks of digestive issues. You're on the right track Rosemary Rocksalt......just give your bagels a little more time in the oven! read more

I ended up here since I knew I was going to be in the area again. A quick peek on Yelp and I knew this was a place to check out. It did not disappoint. A comment before I continue. I am not a smoked meat expert. This will be the third time that I've had Montreal smoked meat. At this point in time, I can't say that I'm a huge fan of it since I've yet to find one that wows me. No exception here. However, of the ones I've tried so far, this is the best. Decent flavours and a good amount of fat for moistness. That said, the bagels are excellent. I came in and wanted something simple. Smoked meat on whole wheat, and smoked meat on rosemary rock salt. The whole wheat bagel was not bad. Good texture with a bit of a chew but not too chewy. The rosemary rock salt was something else. This was a winner in terms of taste and flavours. This took the smoked meat to another level. In fact, I end up getting a third bagel. Smoked meat with jalapeno and cheddar on a rosemary rock bagel. This hit everything out of the park. I thoroughly enjoyed the flavour combination on this one. I understand that there is now a location on Main and Broadway. Good, because that's where I'll be headed for my fix. read more

I was lucky enough to discover this little gem of a place three years ago and continue to go back time after time for their breakfast bagel. It is a great deal with an egg and Montreal smoked meat, with cheese on a beautifully cooked bagel. The food is consistently good, the staff friendly and welcoming as soon as you walk in the door. Sit at the window and watch the North Shore wander by, or get it to go. You can also buy some of the best bagels in the Lower Mainland and take them home with you. They now have opened a few other locations in the LM so obviously they are doing something right. Treat yourself to well priced excellent food. Try the lunch sandwich for sure! read more

What an impressive experience. They have multiple locations and I hope the food and service are as good there as it was here. We have lots of bagel places back home in Chicago. What we don't have is a bagel place that makes a rosemary rock salt bagel. I picked the rosemary as the bagel for my breakfast sandwich and was not disappointed. Full of flavor and just enough salt. The smoked meat seems to be a flavorful tender cut of beef brisket. Watching the employees boil the bagels, put them in wood planks, season them, and slide them in to the oven was pretty cool. The bagels remain on the plank until they come out of the oven and are placed in cooling crates. It's nice to see your food made fresh. The service was great too. All four employees were smiling and honestly friendly. They seemed to enjoy working together and it didn't seem like just a fake "thank you" at the end. One of the employees knew it was our first visit and even came over to see how we liked the bagels and breakfast sandwiches. The prices were a little high but seems to be the norm for this neighborhood. It also helped even though there is mostly just street parking we found a spot in the tiny lot behind the building. I have been eying on this location for a good while now, as I don't frequent Lonsdale Avenue ever since the disappearance of my two favorite video stores which I used to pick up bargains from. Looking at the cute name, I really had no idea what they were selling, and it was only a matter of time till I made it back to this area to finally step in and see what the heck is going on here! Due to my dear's cravings, and due to the fact we were around the area, and that the restaurant wasn't open till 5 to satisfy her craving, we had time to burn, and might as well look into those bookmarks! When we were walking toward the store, then did I realize it was a bagel shop, and when we opened the door our eyes fixated on the display of their fresh in-house made bagels, stacked on their side in a multitude of varieties. While we were looking around, the young lady behind the till asked us if it was our first time here, where we answered 'Yes'. She watched our movements then asked if we would like to try a bite of their bagel, I don't say no to samples.. really I don't, the term, 'Try before you buy' always is in my head! Her name was Misty, and she proceeded to cut some pieces of their signature Rosemary Rock Salt bagel. I loved the medley of sweet and hint of the rock salt on top of this thing. It was dense, a good chew to work those molars and not overly fluffy (as warned by Misty) like those other cheap bagels you get at supermarkets. Since now my tastebuds have been hightened, hand is reaching the wallet, and while we made the decision first off of just buying 4, Misty then advised us for just more than a buck you can get two more.... upsell, very good... very good indeed... add two more to the bag please! Some poppy seed, some sesame, some everything, and a happy smile we walk out the store right.... WRONG. So while we finished making our selection of carb treats, Misty comes and drops the bomb and ask if we have any interest in Montreal smoked meat, stating, clearly that it's flown in from that Eastern Province, brined, tender, cooked, and if we would like to try a sample... uhm..... who offers meat just cut off the main portion, then to take the time to steam it up and serve it as a sample.... as I said above, I do not say no to samples. As the heating process was happening after she sliced the meats, she told us about the times they toss the bagels, and the best times to come here, note taken, hopefully coming back at that time, and like an imaginary microwave ping, she went to get the meat samples, presented on the parchment paper it was heated on, for us to devour. Phone set to camera mode, snap snap, before I eat this... all I can say is.. take the money, you've already got me on the bagels, might as well just throw the meat in there as well. OK, ring me up please, and another pause, as she introduced us to their selection of cream cheeses, then my dear asked for a sample, and she provided this to us, salmon and veggie. In the end we picked the veggie, as it was their best seller, and it was the better one on our taste buds, we had to gather ourselves to stop, or the bag would have ended up as two bags. For a first time visit, I will remember this, it was fun, Misty was genuine in allowing us to try things, and also told us many things that happen in this location, and also mentioned about a new location opening up near Broadway and Main in the future. I have had many bagels in my days, I would consider myself spoiled to a point, and I have to say for the Lower Mainland, if you're a bagel entusiast make some time and come get one here, I've eaten them for two days and the bagels are definitely one of the better ones in the city. Came here after my boyfriends soccer game. We had the loxs and smoked meat both on the rosemary rock salt bagel! They make their own bagels and you can really taste the freshness. The stevenston was pretty tasty, the smoked salmon was of really good quality and there was no fishy smell. The texture of the fish was good as well, its wild caught after all. My first five-star rating goes to ROSEMARY ROCKSALT! I've had bagels. Sweet bagels, savory bagels, bagels from Russ & Daughters in NYC, bagels rock hard from the Starbucks display case. I've also had amaaaazing meat in sandwiches in NYC, Seattle and here in Vancouver. I'm not saying this to brag about my travels (okay maybe just a little) but to give credibility to this statement: Rosemary Rocksalt has some gooood bagel sandwiches. The bagels: Juuust a little on the soft side of chewy, just the right density. I mean we like a solid bagel but we don't wanna feel like we've just eaten a latex sandwich, right? I had the namesake bagel and the Everything bagel. The fillings: I went for the Montreal smoked meat. AUGH. I'm coming back here again and even though I'll want to try something new I KNOW I'll be ordering this again. So moist and tender and juicy and meaty. Best two inches I've ever had in my life. (The meat. I mean, the Montreal smoked meat. They piled it in the bagel to a height of about two inches. What were you thinking?) I also had the Breakfast Bagel: cream cheese, onions, capsicums, cheddar cheese, egg, meat in one exTREMEly satisfying sandwich. On a non-food-related note: there is a wall at the end of the counter with frames photos and write ups on each employee and their dreams/goals. Customer service was great. I bought a dozen cinnamon raisin bagels and they were not good. Texture was gummy and chewy. Didn't taste like cinnamon or raisin and doughy. I've eaten Montreal style bagels many times in Montreal and at Jewish bakeries in Toronto. Supermarket bagels are pretty bad, but these are worse. read more

For what seems like forever, my husband has lamented the state of bagel offerings in North West Canada. Having grown up in Montreal, he could never wrap his mind around the large, doughy hunks of bread that we here Vancourites refer to as bagels. When we got wind of Rosemary Rocksalt opening up, he had hope. I tried to not be TOO excited for his behalf, however, in case it too didn't live up to his expectations. Thankfully, all turned out well. Better than well, actually, for these bagels are awesome! Splendidly dense and chewy, he was in love at first bite. Boiled and wood fried, he was brought back to his childhood. Later he would go on to try RR's breakfast sandwich and that too was a wild hit for him. Filled with a beautiful rendition of another one of his childhood favorites, smoked meat, I'm pretty sure he could now call RR his favorite place to eat in Vancouver ever. Personally, I've always been a big fan of everything bagels and RR's is spot on. Topped with plain cream cheese (I like things simple!), it's a delightfully creamy and flavorful way to start the day. I tried the Hasting-Sunrise with the sundried tomato basi bagell, which contained smoked meat, cheddar, and egg, and it definitely hit the spot!! The bagels come cut in half, and they are neatly wrapped if you're taking them on the go. The place itself is decorated cutely; however, there is limited seating. Heard the bagels were good. Somewhat disappointed. Never had Montreal style bagel so nothing to compare to, but the bagels are pretty hard, dense and dry. Just okay. The service at Lonsdale location is what brings the rating down. Not busy when I went, asked for no onions in my bagel sandwich but they put it anyway. When they gave me my order, they forgot my hash browns. The worker responded with "oh yeah...they are coming" and then proceeds to grab them from the freezer to fry. Yep pretty sure they forgot. Bagels are not a joke. Most of my family lives in Montreal and area, and so growing up I was spoiled with delicious Montreal bagels. Every time my aunt visits me, "eryn what can I bring you?" Me: "Bagels." I love carbs, what can I say. I was a bit devastated when I missed the yelp elite event for Rosemary Rocksalt in 2014. It looked epic and so it immediately made it on my list of places to try in Van. I'm so glad that I did. First of all - the Rosemary Rock Salt bagel is the bomb. It is just. So. Good. I don't even know what it is but it just does it for me. Slap that baby with a little bit of fresh cream cheese, some lox, capers, and red onion and you are literally in heaven. Literally. One of my favourite parts of coming here is watching them make the bagels. Last time the guy was pulling the bagels out from the brick oven with a massive wooden beam and with one fell swoop would drop like literally 2 dozen bagels into a milk cart. I was so impressed, I couldn't stop watching and just stared blankly rather than ordering. Incredible. Their breakfast sandwiches are great; and as mentioned before the lox and cream cheese option is always a winner. Plus your sandwich will come with a bonus jumbo pickle spear. Pro tip: Go with someone who doesn't like pickles, and you'll get 2 ;) Finally for all my gluten free friends out there - they do have a selection of no gluten bagels for your bagel-eating pleasure. WOW! That was some slow service. 2 people in front of us. 25 minutes after walking in the door we got our sandwiches to go. After the wait we were eager to devour what we Thought was "hot" smoked meat and we discovered barely warm smoked meat and a Lox sandwich with generius potion of hair :( not too mention they forgot the fries that I had ordered and paid for. I won't even get into the value of the 22 dollars I just paid for 2 little bagel sandwiches. With a 25 minute wait, we had a nice opportunity to observe all of the food safety violations. The kitchen floors were not just dirty.... They were filthy! Being an open concept kitchen environment you would expect that people would want to have a look. The prep area was not wiped once, the girl making the sandwiches repeatedly would help out and touch the cash register and go back to making the food with no attention to changing her gloves or sanitation in general. The meat slicer was not even remotely clean and BC's food safety standards require a piece of parchment to be replaced every time the slicer is operated. I sure hope I don't get sick.... Or anyone else for that matter. One time trip for me. Just another flop on lonsdale.... Should have opened another sushi restaurant. If Rosemary rock salt lasts six months, I will be suprised.... Dissapointed in spending money at this place for bagel sandwiches :( 1st and 2nd time - breakfast egg sandwich (felt hungry during and after. The bagel is made with the cheapest and most bleached flour lacking in all nutrition and is very small. Toppings small in amount for price. 3rd and 4th time - jalapeno cheese sandwich (yay..I am spelling sandwich correct finally!.mmph!) Tastes great but not filling enough. 5th time - meat and turkey - meet is literally razor thin 2 slices and 2 of the turkey which make for very little ingredients on a tiny thin bagel 6th and 7th time - bagel and cream cheese. Cream cheese needs actual ingredients not specks of this and that to actually give it density and flavor. 50 cent coffee - great deal - need to have cream on hand always! and try a medium roast bc your dark is highly bold and acidic. $50 nearly for sandwiches! Waste of money. Staff - excellent except for whomever made the 5th sandwich. PS: please change your pickles to one's that are less soggy and stinky. Mine smelled of meat and had too much brine.
