Yes Solly's do have good bagels. It's one of those places that was terrific back in the 80's. Let's be honest here folks, this location is in dire need of a makeover. Honestly the place is filthy, and that is inexcusable. Unless your home is like that I hardly consider this comfortable. The food and staff were wonderful besides the woman who is the owner screaming the whole time at her employees . They were all working hard and she was yelling and wailing the whole time acting like some psychotic control freak . Yesterday I stopped by Solly's and picked up some poppy seed bagels. A couple of years ago I decided that Solly's bagels were so good that I wouldn't eat any others in Vancouver. I don't live near their stores but I now ignore any other bagels and just wait until I get to a Solly's location. They are also outstanding with Solly's cream cheese and smoked salmon or the cream cheese spread that conveniently already has smoked salmon in it. They are always generous with the poppy seeds and the toaster enhances the seeds' nutty flavour. These are worth waiting for! read more

I was actually just coming by in passing during Greek Free Day and tried their Jam filled nut roll which was awesome, but not 80 cent awesome for something a little bigger than your thumb. Service is pretty friendly (usually). I love how much meat they stuff in the bagel sandwich, and I like how it's kosher (which generally has higher standards than non-kosher). If I can't get organic/naturally raised, kosher is the next best thing. I always either throw out or give away the 1/4 of a pickle and chips. The samosa-like thing was good too. The cinnamon bun sample I tried was pretty good. This bum really liked it too, he'd walk by every 2 minutes to dip into the sample plate over and over again, taking 4 samples at a time. read more

Solly's is my go-to cinnamon bun place in Vancouver, and that's saying something. I've been making and eating cinnamon buns for half my life, and Solly's cinnamon bun is the ultimate. Thin, buttery layers of sweet dough, caramelized with just the right amount of cinnamon. Epic cinnamon buns. Splurge on the cream cheese icing for an all-out breakfast treat. Good quality bagels, and their freezer is always full of tasty looking goodies and soups. The service isn't always the friendliest, and the interior could definitely do with an upgrade and better seating. My best advice, get one of everything and take them to go, and enjoy them at home or at one of the local parks or beaches with a hot coffee in hand. read more

Came in for a cinnamon buns and a coffee. Both were amazing. Took home some frozen bagels. There was an elderly Jewish lady yelling into her phone loud enough for the whole place to hear, alternating between Yiddish and English. Made me feel at home, because its not a real Jewish business unless someone is yelling at somebody. Five stars for sure! read more

Solly's makes fantastic cinnamon buns. They also have a great selection of bagels, baked goods, cream cheese, soups and other things to make a lunch on the go tasty. The coffee is regrettably poor but most locations are near good coffee shops so all is not lost. read more

solly's makes some tasty treats. i'm a big fan of their bagels, the babka buns (they must have crack in them), the knishes, and the cinnamon buns. this place isn't healthy or good for you in any way, but damn it tastes good. another standout is the cream cheese. it's pricy for take home cream cheese but they use real smoked salmon! delish! read more

I've passed here many times and finally gave this place a try. Had their soup - it was flavourful, but on the salty side. Came with bagel chips that were a bit stale. I didn't wait long - just under five minutes. It wasn't too busy either. Cashier was friendly, but the lady on the sandwich side was... Cold. I had some confusion with the soups, and when I asked a question she just pointed to them with no word. Twice when I asked for more clarification. A bit off putting for me. Seeing all the negative reviews I should not be shocked by the questionable service. I'm not convinced to go back. read more

I usually don't write many bad reviews, because I know all shops have their bad days, but OH MY GOD. I originally stopped going here not because their food was bad, but the owner at the time was so awful to her employees right in front of me that I couldn't get myself to support a business run by such a verbally abusive person. One day though, I was in a rush and decided to just stop by to quickly get a bagel and give them another shot and man, do I REGRET IT. After I ordered my bagel, I proceeded over to the area where they prepare the bagels. I don't remember her name, but she was in training and was Japanese. She was transferring all the cream cheese from a big tub into a smaller one in the preparation area. Once she was done that, she had cream cheese on her fingers and LICKED THE CREAM CHEESE OFF HER BARE FINGERS RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. It's a glass divider, so she was well aware I was right in front of her and she didn't even seem concerned with that. She then proceeded to touch my bagel and prepare it for me. In retrospect, I obviously should have said something, but part of me was in shock honestly. If I wasn't in such a rush I would have talked to a manager or whoever or maybe collected my thoughts and said something, but I just rushed out of there and immediately composted the bagel. Not only was this incredibly disgusting, IT IS A HEALTH CONCERN. Before I just avoided this place, but now I will be warning people. read more

I loooovvveee solly's, have been going here forever and it is always a good experience. The staff are friendly and nice and always seem to be in a good mood. The bagels are amazing, I always go for a plain or sun dried tomato, they are both so good with garlic cream cheese or plain cream cheese. The cinnamon buns are amazing, especially when they are fresh. If you see them putting new ones in the display you know it's a good time to buy them. Their chicken salad sandwich is pretty good too, especially on a plain bagel. Sollys is always everything I want it to be and it never changes! read more

I used to love the matzo ball soup here but lately I have found it nasty. The broth is OK and the matzo ball is bland. More than once I got inedible pieces of chicken in the soup. I STRONGLY DISCOURAGE EATING HERE. THEY TOOK OUR MONEY FOR A SANDWICH THEY NEVER GAVE US, AND WHEN WE ASKED FOR A REFUND THEY REFUSED. They acknowledged that they were not going to give us the sandwich even though we paid because they *were not allowed* to refund anything. When we first got in, the manager or owner, Leah, was yelling at and berating her employees so loudly in the kitchen that everybody in the main area could hear her, she was awful. The kitchen then got my partner's order wrong, so he brought it back up and asked for the correct order. After waiting 30+ minutes, they still hadn't brought out a new order for him so we went up and asked for our money back. The employees couldn't authorize it without some code, and they needed to call the angry woman from before, Leah, in order to get it. When they called her, she apparently refused to give it to them saying that they don't "do refunds" -- so they stole our money without ever giving us the sandwich. If you eat here, be prepared for them to take your money and refuse to return it. read more

Best Bagels in town by far!! We eat them all the time!! Tip though, they sell out a couple hours before they close almost everyday, so don't expect to get bagels in the last two hours they are open. I went for the cinnamon buns and stayed for the bagels. The cinnamon buns are worth ruining your diet for and the hours at the gym you'll need to work it off. Solly's - The only place to get your chicken soup. The only place i can get soup for my girl when she's not feeling well. No preservatives and junk, just good soup with matzoh balls. Solly's makes a pretty good bagel, and they also do a nice job with what they call "Jewish style baking". You know, rugelach, knishes and other seasonal items such as latkes and hamentashen. This is definitely a good little place to stop in for a quick coffee and an even better place to take advantage of the baked goods, and perhaps just for a moment, pretend that you're somewhere on the Lower East Side in Manhattan in the days of your (or someone else's) ancestors. read more

Having been a costumer of Solly's for several years I'm am very disappointed in the lack of freshness and quality in there bagels and cinnamon buns. Recently I've been visiting the broadway location around 830am on Saturday morning for cinnamon buns and bagels for my families weekend treats. They are usually fresh and warm right out of the oven. In the past 6months I have been severed day old cinnamon buns and even gotten to to point of phoning the management to question why I'm being sold day old baked goods at a premium price,they apologize d stating that there baker had called in sick. The problem is that it has continued every week since then. It's on and off. Today when I went in I asked the person at the counter if they were fresh baked today and he informed me they were not. I left thinking there are an amazing amount of bakeries in Kits and it time to find one. To bad the owners can't recognize why a place that use to have a constant line up is empty on a Saturday morning. Wake up and smell the coffee ! read more
