My go to is generally the "other" place but if you know Montreal it's a bit of personal preference at play. Both St Viateur and Fairmont in Montreal are great but they are different! Here the food options are a bit broader - they have bagel crisps and lavash. I would get the crisps and lavash way more often if they came in smaller packages soho wasn't faced with wasting food. Their cinnamon bun is decent but doesn't hold a candle to the other place in Kits... They have other food to go - not sure about their Montreal smoked meat or if they have the beef salami. Passed by Sollys and I had to get a cinnamon bun. Although it's called Sollys Bagelry, their cinnamon buns are my favourite. They are full of layers, have tons of cinnamon and it's not overly sweet. When heated in the oven the layers become nice and crispy. I also recommend their garlic cream cheese if you like garlic. It's on the pricier side but definitely worth it as a treat once in awhile. read more

Wish I had read the reviews first. If you want to see counter service given with less than zero F's this is the place. Even with the boss present I couldn't even get a bagel with just lox and a schmear of plain cream cheese. And then the bagel just weren't that good! Went in and the only bagels left were whole wheat which I would never eat as a bagel but the counter person said more were coming from the other store so we decided to wait. That was a mistake. I don't whether they were lying on purpose or just thought it was more polite to lie but more than 1/2 hour later still no bagels. No apology, not a single F given. We were like if they aren't coming soon just tell us that and then it was "5 more minutes" said a few times. Then they finally came...well some of them. They forgot to bring any onion bagels and while they talked about how there was no onion bagel they couldn't be bother to tell the person who actually ordered one... I should have known when I told them not to toast my bagel and they were surprised that it wasn't going to be that good. A good bagel has a slightly crispy outside nautrally and a chewy inside. This was soft anywhere the seseame seeds weren't on the outside and had a more bready texture inside- I don't even know if they are boiled then baked them like all bagels should be. I ordered it will small scheamer of plain cream cheese and lox. I got it with a thick layer of cream cheese and onions and capers even though I specifically said nothing else on the bagel. My spouse got a breakfast sandwich on everything. She said the taste was ok but the texture inside was too bread like. Also it's billed as a Jewish deli but I strongly doubt that there is anyone Jewish involved in this business, certainly no one working there was when I was there, although I the owner/manager may keep halal and some workers speak Arabic. read more

I know Montreal is famous for bagels, but the bagel I had today was delicious. I guess it would be the equivalent to an 'everything' bagel, but so much more flavorful and fresh tasting. I had it toasted with a dill cream cheese spread. Sooo good. The service wasn't great and the gal behind the counter was not the friendliest. And although both my partner and I received food that wasn't quite what we ordered, we very much enjoyed our lunches. My favourite cinnamon buns ever! So many places slather them in icing, or fill them full of raisins or nuts. For me, I love it most when its just pure cinnamon and butter. I was torn between putting a 2 or a 3. The sundried tomato bagel was excellent. Having my bagel with a decent coffee, sitting outside at the tables in the sun was pretty blissful. So no complaints after I got the bagel but I have to say the service was lacking. There were only two of us ordering so not crazy busy. I wouldn't even go as far to say the serve was rude. She was just completely indifferent and didn't want to be there. There are a lot of bakeries that want you to be in their store and at least say good morning. So I am not sure I will go back. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. BUYER BEWARE!!! I went in at 9 am with a friend. They weren't serving breakfast bagels because they didn't have the ingredients. Ok, understandable. Every time I see "voted best in town" Im alway interested in trying. Solly claim is best bagel and best cinnamon buns. I wasn't planning on coming to Solly's but I was in the neighborhood. Overwhelmed with the board menu I asked the server for some recommendation. Very helpful I ended up with a cinnamon bun and onion bagel with smoked salmon shmear (cream cheese). Started with the bagel with smoked salmon shmear it was nice I think they over loaded it with the cream cheese but is was nice, smoked salmon worked well. The bagel was also good fresh and has a nice chew to it. The cinnamon bun was ok, I've had better. Overall it was good still not convinced its the best but good. Only several small tables, I think most people take their food to go. It was nice just to seat there and people watch. read more

I recently moved to Vancouver from Seattle, but I'm originally from the east coast and I'm Jewish and, if nothing else, I've missed Jewish delis SO SO MUCH the past two decades. I go back home just to get my fix. It's bad, how much I've missed real, legit Jewish foods. So it was with glee and high hopes that I stumbled upon this deli-like shop in Kits! I was excited to see blintzes and latkes and matzo ball soup for sale, and so many traditional cookies and, of course, bagels. We purchased some cookies (which were pretty good, but hardly exceptional). The primary reason I'm rating this place so lowly is due to the young lady who worked the counter. It was really clear to me and my husband and my two kids that she just didn't want to be there. She was dour and not friendly in the least. It was like we were bothering her, interrupting something else she'd rather be doing. (Note: there was no-one else in the store when we were there). My family all commented on her sour demeanor after we left the store. I was really scared about the other reviews about the alleged mice running around there in the PM. I had mixed results myself. These may be the best bagels and cream cheese offerings in Vancouver. Haven't tried them all yet, but this is the best tasting so far. However, they really blew it by shoving a bakers dozen bagels and cream cheese into a too small ultra thin overflowing brown paper bag that ripped at the slightest touch, rolling bagels and sesame seeds all over the back seat of my car. It's never been my favorite bagel shop in Vancouver but I used to go a lot.. Until I met the owner/manager... I saw her new hires working very hard to learn the ropes. She berated them for the tiniest things (I wouldn't even call them mistakes). She would tell customers "she messed up your order" and was extremely rude to staff in front of a full restaurant, people looked very uncomfortable. When the owner went to the back I told the poor girl/worker how good she was doing and she didn't have to listen to those harsh comments, and then she looked like she was about to cry. As I was leaving I let the owner/manager, as politely as I could, know I didnt appreciate the way she spoke to staff and I didn't think I could return again soon. Instead of having a conversation with me she yelled at me in front of everyone so I decided to leave and still yelling said "YOU ARE SUCH A MELLENNIAL!!!" Side note: If being a mellenial means I stand up for workers rights, I am SUPER okay with that "insult." Yelp keeps nagging me to write about this Solly's location, so I will, even though I have written about the Main St Solly's location too. This Solly's is pretty much exactly as awesome as the other two locations in town. They are friendly to vegan, vegetarian, and omnivorous diets, with a vegan bagel sandwich right on the menu. Thanks to the rules of kosher food preparation, the bagels and knishes are vegan, which is just fantastic! I love the homous veg bagelwich at Solly's. It is satisfying and loaded with all my favourite produce. Plus, those chips are delish. One thing I don't like about this Solly's - it's tiny, and every table is inconvenient in some way. Got a pumpkin/chocolate chip muffin and some bagels from here. The muffin was pretty dry but the bagel's were delicious.

I had the lox but was just missing the bagels for breakfast so we decided to hit up Solly's for whatever was fresh and just out of the oven. The sesame bagels did not have a glossy, crunchy and chewy crust and the insides were slightly on the doughy side, but at least they made the effort to try an make a fairly authentic bagel, unlike some establishments which essentially form a bun into a bagel shape and call it a day. If you are expecting Montreal or NYC quality, you will be thoroughly disappointed but for Vancouver, it will do in a pinch. 2.5 stars. read more

Maybe I'm biased because I'm from Montreal, where I consider the bagels to be as authentic as you can get. Better than NYC and yes, better than Vancouver. The bagel shop is small and cramped but offers a variety of flavours. That said, when we got there, there was hardly anything left because of some Groupon deal that happened to be going on. Now, I'm all for deals, but shouldn't an establishment plan a little better such that they are well stocked to better serve their clients? It was barely midday and there was nothing left, and no one was in the kitchen making more. What's up with that? I found the bagels to be extremely dense, and lacking in flavour. I have filled about ten Eggel cards in the last 5 years. I love the coffee, the service, and also really enjoy saying, "vorsht eggel on a mish-mash bagel, please" every morning. Yummy bagels, great store made cream cheese, but boy do they load it on! Besides the fact that they literally smother their bagels in their cream cheese, I love the bagels a lot. They have a lot of different kinds of their Montreal-style bagels and if you get there in time you can grab a bag of day-old's for cheap. My recommendation is to buy the bagels and their cream cheese separately and go home and do it yourself. read more

An eggle and a cinnamon bun? Don't mind if I do! This is one of the best places in Vancouver to stop for a snake that turns into a meal. Many reviewers compare these bagels to some where else in the country/world. Why? Who cares if I've had better bagels in NYC, if I'm in BC chances are NYC isn't my next stop. We make due with what we got, and Solly's makes me feel good. Jewish style deli's are hard to find in the PNW so take your bagel snobbery back east. You're too stiff anyway. In all seriousness Solley's is great food and any excuse I have to drive across the boarder I stop by here each trip. I suggest you do the same. If anyone knows a better cinnamon bun (without icing, im a purist after all) between Seattle and Van shoot me a note and I will make the trip. Protip: If you are from south of the border like me get a Nexus. This way they are less likely to search your car and find 2 dozen cinnamon buns in the trunk. Possibly the best cinnamon bun i've ever had. Its like they bake toffee on top of it. I always like yo have icing on my buns, and these have none, but i forgot about the icing after one bite. Try these! Especially in the morning when they are warm. Also, the Roasted Veggie Eggel is probably the best bagel treat i've had, maybe ever. I've had one each weekend, and will be back for more. Solly's serves some of the best bagels west of Montreal. Their small storefront reminds me of a NYC bakery. The small street front patio is a great place to watch the vibrant street life of West Broadway. All in all, this is a local gem and my favorite place to stop for a morning snack. This is the only place that I know of where you can get a huge goo-ey chogolate bobka. They're amazing fresh out of the oven or cold! I've never had a bad chocolate bobka from this or the main st store. The chocolate bobkas are about $3.00 a piece but large and very chocolatey. Their cinnamon buns are also very good! I unfortunately haven't tried anything else on the menu here. This location is very small compared to the Main ST location. It only had 2 (or 3) tables inside! The shop needs a bit of a reno and new ways of storing some of their goods. I'm not surprised if they have any pest problems due to the way they have their goods displayed. I've never been to any Sollys, so it was quite exciting when I stumbled across this one. I've heard so much about their bagels. I picked out 2 bagels, a pretzel and 2 knishes. The pretzel was pretty hard, the one bagel I had already (onion), pretty delish. The two knishes were delish! I wish I had bought more than 2. As I was waiting for her to pick out my order, I noticed they had large bags of frozen potato latkes, I wish they had half size packs, but if I pop by to a different Solly's and those are the only sizes available, I will have to suck it up and buy the big huge one. read more

Oh my word, it is making my mouth water just thinking about this place. I lived in Vancouver for awhile, and I truly miss Solly's. The cinnamon buns are probably the best in the entire world ... just a mess of sticky gooey goodness, and not sickeningly sweet like some of the larger corporate varieties. They also do an amazing selection of cakes, bagels, various kosher foods, homemade soup ... I recommend it all. A feast that will warm your heart as well as your stomach. read more

The selection of bagels is limited but tried the fresh dill cream cheese on a sesame bagel. Bagel was good but a little small and the dill cream cheese was different but good! Outside the box!
