I am so grateful I found Tim! I have a 121 year old house in Boston and I rent out the first floor. You can imagine I need "a guy" for everything and Tim is THE guy for my windows now!!! One of my storm windows from long ago shattered. I called Solo Glass and immediately got the owner, Tim. He was incredibly friendly, personable and professional on our initial call. He clearly explained every step of the process. Very shortly thereafter, Tim scheduled me for an appointment and arrived punctually with his four beautiful pug pups! He was so friendly and polite and exercising safety precautions during the pandemic by wearing a mask, keeping a 6 foot distance and limiting the amount of time he spent inside the house. He needed to enter my tenant's unit and explained very carefully to myself and my tenant how the process works and was able to repair the storm window in open air, spending only about 5 minutes indoors. The window looks AWESOME. This was really reassuring to me, given that I need MORE work done on my windows and I don't want to have to wait for the pandemic to be over to complete the work. Tim is well-informed, SO professional and SO good at what he does. That's a rarity nowadays, so if you need any window restoration/repair - he's THE guy! read more

This is a neighborhood place with friendly, down to earth, no frills style and service. We have an outdoor table, the glass top for which got lost in the move from one part of Cambridge to another. After a frustrating round of calls to glass places (all pricing a table top at more than the table and chairs even cost), Vern at Solo Glass patiently explained my options and suggested plexiglass as the most affordable option (none of the other places we called offered this). For a 48' by 28' rectangle it was around $60. I gave a deposit on the phone and it was ready the next day. They were even happy to add an umbrella hole for an extra $15 once I got there, which only took about five minutes to do. The result is exactly what we wanted, and I'd use Solo for anything we need in the future. read more

After 4 weeks, 2 dozens calls and a promise to take care of it tomorrow. My window has yet to be fixed, no call to reschedule. The guys there are very pleasant and seem professional. However, my experience with Solo has been a disappointment. I understand small jobs can require some extra effort to motivate any repair guy. I broke my glass shelf inside my fridge. I called them up and gave measurements for the piece of glass. Was it available? can it be cut while i wait? Yes to both questions. Great! I thought I'll drive over there now. When I arrived I was given the advice that a piece of plastic would do instead, in fact it was better, because it was flexible and would not break. I asked if I can have the glass. No can do, they haven't got it in stock, pissed and not bothering to ask why he told me differently over the phone, causing me a wasted journey. I asked him the cost difference between the glass and plastic, he would not give me an actual figure. Very strange I thought, well since i am already here and the piece of plastic was not expansive at $25 I went for that option. I fitted it into my fridge at home, but as soon as i put any weight on the shelf, the plastic flexible 'glass' bent and the plastic frame that held it in place actually split in two. So now I have no shelf and no means of replacing the 'glass' as the the frame is broken. So much for their 'advice' that i didn't want anyway. I was worst off for coming here. I am sure it was a genuine piece of advice that went wrong, but that in addition to telling me they had a standard piece of glass in stock when they did not (and I suspect they knew that), giving shady replies, and ruining my shelf. My conclusion that this business is unprofessional is an understatement. This visit happened late last year (Nov 2011) , so maybe they have cleaned up their act a little, but I am reminded every time I open my fridge door! read more

Great worker and great guy. This is the summer so he is very busy. If you are patient he will accommodate you. Follow his instructions and request for texts with measurements and other. He does pick up the phone! If the job is on your premise he comes ready with his van (and his three cute pugs). I have an old Victorian and saw the amount of work involved (he had to replace two glass frames and cut them to measure, and then deal with four broken sash chords and their weights). So my girlfriend wanted to put some mirrors in an old window frame. We called some other places and Solo Glass was by far the cheapest. Tim was super nice and friendly. We chatted with him while he cut and installed the mirrors. The finish product was top notch and we will definitely go back to him with other projects. His address changed so call first. Right now he is based out of a storage facility, but don't let that deceive you. He is a pro and this work is really great. Most importantly I found Tim to be ethical, professional, and very conscientious about his work. That all counts a lot for me. Timmy was able to come to my apartment a few hours after I called him with my issue (one of my windows not staying in the open position). He was extremely friendly, quickly diagnosed the issue, and presented me with the details (cost, time frame, etc) of two options (repair or replace). I appreciated the fact that he gave me all the information I needed but did not charge me for the in-person diagnosis. I will happily call him again if and when I decide to repair or replace my window. read more

This place is great! I had a broken window. I dropped off the window in the morning. It was fixed by the afternoon. Great friendly service and also much cheaper than some of the other places I have gone to before. It cost $120 to fix my window. Another place I had gone to before charged me nearly $180! I walked in off the street with a screen door insert my dog had jumped through. Tim said he could do the job and offered to do it while I waited. Half an hour later I walked out with the repaired door. TIm's work was excellent and we now have a screen door again. I had expected to beg someone to do the work within a week. Had a tenant accidentally break a small window pane in the front door of the building. Tried calling a few glass companies--one said it was such a small job and that I should find a handyman to do it, and I never heard back from the others. I searched on Yelp and found Solo Glass. I should have tried them first. Tim answered immediately. I told him what my issue was and he said no problem, he could take care of it the next day. I called him the following day to follow up and he said it was all taken care of. I went down to take a look and his work was great. He replaced and cleaned the glass and cleaned up nicely. Solo Glass rocks! Only 2 days after I phoned, Timmy was able to come to the house to replace broken glass panes in a couple of French doors. He worked quickly, did a fabulous job, and cleaned up thoroughly, and for a very fair price. While replacing one of the panes, he noticed a place where the molding was missing and took the time to apply some putty to make it look better--without charging! read more

Lied to again and again I had first decided to use them after reading the 2 most recent reviews and someone suggested they are only a few blocks away. I figure it can't go wrong, but was I wrong. I guess anyone can post a review and I wonder if they didn't post it themselves or have a friend do it but whatever the case, I wouldn't trust these guys with anything and I dealt with them first hand. Don't say I didn't warn you. On 3/25/10, Thursday morning. I called to ask for an estimate on 2 glass panels for a door. Tim says he will go and measure it that afternoon and call me back with a quote. Late afternoon I can't find Tim but reached Vern. Vern says he didn't know about the order but will measure it out and get a quote to me early next morning. The next morning I called about the quote but Vern didn't get a chance to measure it yet so he said he will get to it right away. Friday afternoon I got a quote from Vern and was told it was of standard size and it was in stock. They get deliveries Mondays and Wednesdays and Vern said that I will have it Monday morning installed if I give them a deposit. I give them my credit card info with a 50% deposit and asked Vern to order it right away, I need this installed ASAP. I called Monday morning Tim gets on the phone and tells me that it is a special order size and it takes 5-7 days because of the tempering. I said Vern told me he had called the factory on Friday, it was of standard size and it was in stock if I wanted regular glass instead of tempered, and that they can get delivery on Monday. Then Tim said he will call the factory right away to see when they can have it and will give me a courtesy call back. I waited but no answer. I called him back in the afternoon and he said they will have it definitely by Wednesday morning. I said fine but please make sure you get it. He reassured me that once it comes in they will have it installed. I called Tim back on Tuesday just to confirm that we are still scheduled for Wednesday and asked him to confirm it with the factory. He will, again, give me a courtesy call and I said please do that. After a couple of hours I didn't hear from Tim so I called him back and he said yes, it is definitely schedule for Wednesday morning. They get there deliveries in by 8:30 - 9:00 am so he will give me another courtesy call once it's in. I said please call me back in the morning by 9:30 am whether it's in or not. Wednesday morning rolls around and I called the office at 10:00 am and no one answers. I called the other number and no one answers. I kept calling until almost noon and then had someone swing by their shop to see what's going on. The shop was closed and a signed said they will be back soon. This was 11:50 am. I tried to call again but they won't answer my calls. Then I had someone else call them from a different number and they answered right away. We asked weren't they suppose to be installing the glass for me that morning and Tim tell me that Vern is at the factory picking up the unit. What happened to the delivery for that morning??? After that, I never heard from them again. They shut off their cell phone and switched the answering machine in the office to pick up on one ring. These guys are a cheat and a liar. I can't imagine what kind of an operation they are running but with guys like them I regretted giving them my credit card info. I recommend you shouldn't even waste your time on them. I called my credit card company and requested a new card, I don't know what Tim might do with my info. Totally avoid them, don't say I didn't warn you. read more

They came took measurements, had the piece a few days earlier then they thought, Installed it within an hour and done. No hassles, no headaches just exactly what we wanted at a great price. I had the week after Christmas off from work and decided to get somebody in to fix the sash cords on my windows. I called Solo Glass and made an appointment 10 days ahead with Tim to come on Thursday. As Thursday rolled around and nobody showed up by 11 am, I placed a call to find out what was going on. I spoke with Verne. He didn't know where Tim was and took my phone message. I get a call on Saturday around 7pm from Tim claiming that he had to go to the hospital on Thursday for the flu. I asked him why he didn't call to alert me on Thursday. He states that he thought Verne would call. He didn't know that Verne and I spoke and was trying to cover his butt. He then says how bout if he comes on Monday. Monday's a work day for me. Not trusting him with my time any more I told him I'd like to speak to Verne about having him come. I believe Verne is his brother. Tim calls me back 10 minutes later with Verne's cell phone. I've left Verne 2 messages and have had no call back. In my opinion, these guys are a waste of time. No repect whatsoever for my time. read more
