Food and service was good. The only thing that disappointed me was that I ordered a fountain coke. It was full of ice. After I finished I requested a refill. This is a great place. Located in downtown Freehold. Fantastic Italian cuisine. Everything is good. Ive eaten here many times over the years, I've never gotten a bad meal. Service is excellent. The wait staff is always attentive to your questions and needs. Parking can be a challenge at times as with any restaurant in the downtown area. Definitely try to get a reservation especially on the weekend. Otherwise Giorgio the owner is usually there and he will try to get you in if he can, but make the reservation if you can. It's not a huge restaurant and it gets packed in there. Very popular and for a good reason. Prices are midrange. BYOB. If you forget, there is a liquor store across the street that has some good options. I've also gotten catering from here and it is just as good as eating in the restaurant. I don't understand all of the good reviews honestly. Freehold native here, we are inundated with amazing Italian restaurants, sadly this is not one of them. Service was 9/10 so please servers don't take offense, but the food was beyond subpar. We started with the octopus (chewy) Baked clams (even more chewy) Zucchini flowers, tasteless? No sauce for dipping? For an entree I got the $44 veal parmigiana. The amount of cheese on this thing was actually disgusting. The veal chop was pounded so thin I could only taste mountains of mozzarella cheese. Very very disappointing. Sorry solo, I wanted to like my meal I really did. read more

I'd been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile and I wasn't disappointed. The restaurants ambiance was great for a nice night out with my girlfriend. The service was very good-- our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. The bread was enjoyable. For an appetizer we got Carpaccio Di Manzo. It wasn't what we were expecting but the flavors came together very nicely and we both ended up really enjoying it. We both got Farfalle all' Ammiano for our entrees. This consisted of "bowties, shrimp, scallops, and seafood in a secret family sauce". The "seafood and secret family sauce" part incorporated salmon into the dish. We both found it very tasty. Overall I really enjoyed my dining experience. I'd especially recommend it for a special night out with your significant other. I plan to dine here again soon! read more

I decided to have a very small reception for my very small micro wedding in May of this year and it went horribly. The only thing that went right was that they fix their mistakes later on but they did not use any of my table settings. they did not give me a cake cutting knife or a cake server when they told me they had one they did not help us with the music like they said they would and the waiter told us there was no vegan or gluten-free options when clearly on the menu They offer them and we have been there for many many years and they have always done that. If I can tell anyone, I would say they are subpar for a nice dinner out, but do not have them for any of your events. read more

Really had a very pleasant meal here in downtown freehold! Nicely spread out tables during the coronavirus outbreak. Very very happy to stumble upon this place in downtown freehold. I was planning to eat at a different popular restaurant when I noticed that the outdoor dining was not spaced appropriately at that other restaurant. As a matter of fact many of the restaurants in downtown freehold did not observe the proper social distancing during the coronavirus outbreak. Fortunately I stumbled across this place where the outdoor tables were spread out extremely well and separated from other tables. Just so glad to dine here, starting with the bread basket, excellent! I knew right away we made the right choice stopping here. Terrific service and terrific atmosphere even for outdoors. My dinner was seafood over pasta and I remember loving it. They really did a great job here with a generous portion but cooked to the quality you would hope for fine dining. Another entrée we ordered was pasta with Bolognese sauce including meat and sausage. This was excellent! We split the different entrées and this was so delightful! The last entrée was a pear and gorgonzola cheese ravioli with a nice rich cream sauce. Heaven! Very rich and creamy but delicious and what we were hoping for. I definitely recommend the spot especially if you were visiting freehold borough during the coronavirus pandemic. Parking is a little bit behind the actual restaurant (not much street parking). This was my first time coming to the area so took a minute to find the additional parking. It's is fancier (wait staff is wearing white button down dressier shirts and black pants), linen table cloths and napkins. We were seated immediately with our reservation. There is a ton of pasta choices, all are said to be made fresh. Both of our pastas (Cacio e Pepe and Pappardelle all Limone di Almafi) were both good, not amazing but good. Although we had different pasta dishes the sauces were similar which was weird. We shared the special which was the branzini with lemon sauce and sautéed veggies. This was a low point in the meal. The veggies were all cold and over cooked, the sauce tasted so strong like lemon juice straight from concentrate. Very overpowering and took over the palate completely. Would probably come back to try some of the other pasta dishes to compare. It is on the pricey side. Complimentary focaccia style bread with olive oil for dipping was provided. read more

He explained the menu to me at least twice! He presented price options and was upfront about the best plan for me. Tom even helped my girls solve a decorating crisis. I think this place deserves a little bump in my scoring since coming here a couple times since my first review. I went with the eggplant parmesan over pasta. The eggplant parm was ok. I wish the eggplant was crispier but the flavor was good. It looks like they egg batter the eggplant before putting it together. The pasta was a little overdone as well but its typical for the suburbs. Overall, it was a good dish albeit some flaws. My wife got the salmon and it had good flavor. Again I thought they could have cooked it a touch less. We also ordered the homemade potato chips with dipping sauce. The chips are definitely homemade and I prefer them without the sauce which has a weird flavor to it. Overall, Solo is a cool neighborhood spot that people in the area seem to like. 2 stars was a little harsh so I will settle for 3 stars this time. The dishes arent spectacular but they do a job. I am gluten-free and I had my choice of any pasta dish and they supplemented the pasta. My dish was the sausage, peas, mushrooms in a light cream sauce. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. I love this restaurant. I usually have the garlic chicken which is great and who can resist the "almost famous chips" which I believe are now famous homemade chips. It was my first time at this restaurant so I really didn't know what to expect. We had a 7:45pm reservation and we were seated in a fair amount of time. The people were extremely friendly, so waiting an extra 15 minutes was no big deal. Our serve, Josephine, was top notch and you would be lucky to have her wait on you! She truly elevates the bar on customer service. As for the food, we had the Carciofi Alla Giudea, which were extremely tasty and props for presentation. For our main courses we had the squid ink pasta, which was a special, and Scaloppine Di Pollo Alla Mamma Carmen. All very fresh and delicious. Of course there was desert: Biscotti Fatti in Casa, and Warm Bread Pudding. It is a "BYOB" and to my surprise, there was no corking fee, which seems to be the norm these days. Amazing food. From beginning to end , all I can say is wow. Italian food in Freehold is primarily from transplants Brooklyn / Staten Island which has a unique cooking and tasting difference which I have not become accustomed to at this point. Solo, is the complete opposite with cooking techniques and home made recipes from Rome, Italy. You can taste the difference and see what true service is like here. 5/5 easily the best Italian restaurant I have been to in Freehold. read more

As others have noted, they treat you like family here. That certainly sets the stage for an enjoyable meal. And the food is very good. Those that had the traditional Italian dishes and those that went a little avant garde said their food was very good. I had a steak, something I tend not to order outside of a steak house, but this one turned out to be excellent. It's on the cusp of a 5 star rating except that it was a little cramped but then again it shouldn't be a surprise that the place is popular. read more
