The burning smell was an indication that something was burning out, like a compressor, fan/engine, or circuit, and after deciding that it was a fire/safety/health hazard, i decided to seek out help/repair/service for my dying refrigerator. Going through Yelp, I contacted around 5 locally, highly-rated refrigerator repair service businesses. All were either hard to get a hold of, or had availability a full week out. Can't wait an entire week with a fridge full of cold, perishable, and expensive food! I managed to contact the General HVAC Electric and Appliance Repair and they had an immediate opening the same morning! Talk about quick service. They gave me a 1/2 hour window of arrival, and within 20 minutes of my initial contact, someone quickly showed up at my front door. It doesn't get any faster than that! My service tech was Alex (the owner I think), and he was friendly & professional & efficient. Before even entering the house, he put covers over his shoes so as to not track any outside dirt into thr house, nice touch, appreciated, and definitely shows care, concern, and attention to detail & respect for the client. Good start, impressive, and noticed! Alex inspects the refrigerator from the inside/out, front/back, and top/bottom, and sets his focus on the computer panel behind the ice machine, which holds the motherboard/master panel that controls the refrigerator's cooling & operational functions. He meticulously & carefully removed & extracted thr panel, making sure not to damage any clips or fasteners that hold it in. He also took great care not to scratch any surfaces or lose any screws in the process. Once extracted, it was determined that the control panel was failing and needed refurbishing and/or replacement. That short curcuit was what was causing the burning plastic smell & poor cooling, for this 30 year old refrigerator. It has served us well, but was giving up the ghost in its lifetime of running non-stop for 30 years, a good run for a faithful trooper. Alex diagnosed, serviced, and fixed the refrigerator in an efficient, meticulous, and careful 30 minute home visit! He was very easy to talk to, and walked me through the entire process of what he was doing & discovering. He outlined the course of repair, paying attention to honest diagnosis, feedback, and repair cost estimates. He is very upfront & professional & honest & detailed, and I would not hesitate to hire him again. He is very trustworthy for a person who does not know anything about electrical, appliance, or mechanical functioning. Prices are very fair & competitive among other home appliance repair businesses. A flat $85 charge for house call, and that gets applied/pro-rated towards any repair or labor charges after the initial diagnosis. Appreciate it! My LG refrigerator died recently and I needed it repaired ASAP. Triton was able to come the soonest so I went with them. They came right away and fixed the problem- the fridge needed a new compressor. So far so good. The job ended up costing around $1350. $950 for the labor and $400 for the part. Super expensive I know but still cheaper than getting a new fridge. The problem was that the compressor was still under warranty and the repair man said that they could reimburse us for the part if we call LG to have them replace it after the fact. He assured me that this is common practice and he's done it several times before. Ok so I pay them, call LG, give them all the info they asked for and they say they will send Triton the new part in 3-4 weeks. A month goes by and I call Triton about the reimbursement. The guy says he needs to check with his warehouse or inventory manager or something to see if the part arrived and would call me back. I never heard back. I tried again the next week. Same thing- he needs to check with his inventory guy and will get back to me. No call back. I call again and you'll never guess what happened. Yes same story. And now I am writing this review because I'm starting to think I'm not getting that $400 back. Ugh. Still I can't give only 1 star bc they did fix it and they were courteous the whole time they were here. 2 stars it is.
