FIRST EXPERIENCE: I had my first tattoo done at Chicago Tattoo Co during Covid. The artist did an…read moreamazing job, it's beautiful, I practically fell asleep during the appointment, the lines were clean and the steadiness of their hand was impressive. No blow outs or anything. They made sure I was happy with the size and placement. Wonderful experience. Unfortunately, that artist seems to have since left their business. MOST RECENT EXPERIENCE: The second interaction I had at Chicago Tattoo Co was with Tim. I recently lost my dog who was a huge part of my life for 14 years. I was looking to get a piece done of her that looked "faded" as if she were just beyond the veil. I brought an awful sketch with me that I did in about 30 seconds in my car before going in. I can't draw, but I wasn't trying to create something good anyways. Just something to express the "faded" idea I had in my head, since I couldn't explain it with words. Instead of trying to understand what I meant, Tim's first reaction was to judge the drawing. He said things like "I'm trying to be nice" and "no one will know what this is" "it could be a pig"... Once we got past the -its just an example- conversation, he moved on to the size and details of the piece. He said "good" tattoos have to be a certain size and I needed to go bigger. I was not willing to go bigger. By the end of the conversation, he had insulted my quick sketch, my idea, and many people who have tattoos currently that don't live up to his standards. I felt bad for those who have tattoos they love that he crapped all over. He literally called them "shitty tattoos". RECOMMENDATION: I cannot recommend Tim for literally anyone, despite his obvious talent and skill. A man that only appreciates the work he'd do himself is not an artist I'd want tattooing me, because they're likely to have trouble listening. However, Chicago Tattoo is a hub of very talented individuals in general, and its a clean environment. I have attached an image of the sketch I brought in and another sketch that took me about 8 minutes. The second is closer to what we discussed in person, but I can't imagine the first is SO bad that he really couldn't understand what I meant through conversation...it was just a visual aid anyways.. Side Note: Wether someone else likes or recognizes what your tattoo is shouldn't matter. It's what the art piece represents to the person getting it done. Get whatever you want. :)

So got a full panel done last December, tattoo machine was making a weird sound asked about the…read moremachine and was told it was a rotary, roughly 30 minutes later he said the machine wasn't working properly and had to switch, paid 850 for the top of my forearm, tattoo took 4.5 hours so was charged almost 200 an hour to leave with a scarred arm and told it'd be the hourly shop rate to fix anything, I have tattoos from years ago artists will still touch now that's understandably case by case but paying 800 for not even 5 hours work and having scar tissue from a faulty machine and I need to pay 100+ to get the tattoo I paid handsomely to get covered up still showing, 10/10 will not go back will not refer, got my first tattoo here on my 18th birthday and proceeded to get the 2 largest pieces I have here and feel taken advantage of, other than that the artist was super cool and the experience was awesome I just wish I didn't have to pay for ink that's supposed to still be there and to not have scars making patches in the color.

My sister and I have been talking for awhile about getting matching tattoos and I finally took the…read moreplunge after reading a ton of reviews for various local places. I emailed the team here and they got back to me quickly. I sent them a mock up of the image I wanted to work with so they had an idea, as well as, the location I preferred. When I arrived, the artist was able to do a transfer for me and we opted to move the placement a little bit higher up my wrist as I have a dominate tendon that could have been more painful and made it look odd with the movements. I liked that she advised me on her logic and why she thought it was best to move it up about an inch. The tattoo took about 30 minutes and was wrapped up nicely. The place was very clean and everyone was very professional. It healed up nicely and still looks great. I get a lot of compliments on it. Overall: A Love my tattoo and planning another for my back shoulders. :)
