I recently got my nostril pierced two days ago and I am so glad I went to Somatic. My cousin highly recommended this place since she has been going there for five years. The second I walked in I was instantly greeted by the friendly staff. We quickly filled out paper work and were helped with figuring out which jewelry to choose. Then we talked about the cleaning and healing process thoroughly. I was getting pretty nervous beforehand, but felt very comfortable after talking to them about how the procedure goes and all of our questions or concerns were answered honestly. The person who pierced me was Andy who was very helpful, friendly, and he did an amazing job! I felt very comfortable during the piercing since he would explain what he was going to do beforehand. They are strict on when they allow you to change the jewelry due to the extensive healing process, and how often you need to clean the piercings. somatic is great. i stopped in yesterday to get my septum pierced (by ericka?), and it was an awesome experience. i used to go to the old somatic in costa mesa (had my lobes pierced by luis when i was 15) and it was the best shop around. the long beach (and i believe original?) location is no different. friendly knowledgeable staff, pretty good jewelry selection, very clean sterile piercing room. they go over all the pros/cons of the piercing you're interested in, and tell you what to expect when healing. i really couldn't think of a better shop in the southern california area. so go here! read more

Well I tried to get my forward helix pierced on a Saturday, but when I arrived they stated they did not have the correct earring to supply the piercing in question. Even though I called Thursday and asked all the necessary questions and asked if I could schedule an appt but said walk ins were the only type they took. So I did not make an appt but Saturday afternoon when I walked in they did not have jewelry to support the piercing I wanted. I did everything I could to make this process seamless, but apparently somatic body piercing did not help in this process. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a simple piercing. read more

I've been to Somatic on 3 separate occasions, and can safely say I won't be going back again. I first got my ears pierced in Venice Beach, and decided several months later to go to Somatic to get my piercing stretched, and bought plug earrings from them... they were competent and sanitary, and did a good job. When I returned a few months later, I ordered a set of niobium hoops to replace the plugs... they had to order them, and it took a couple of months, and what I got wasn't what was described to me (they said the beads would be soft and pliable, making it easier to take off / put on, but they weren't)... I should have complained more but finally just gave in. That brings us to today, when I went in with the old (surgical, stainless) hoops I had from getting my ears pierced in Venice. The person working out front took them back to the girl who does the piercings, and came back saying she won't put in anything they don't sell, but they will sell me a pair of hoops for $30! I don't know if they are worried about liability, but surely they have a form I can sign to waive them of liability... I had these hoops in for several months, and I know they are top quality. My guess is they just want more money than they can get out of just doing the piercing. Regardless, I was offended that the woman doing the piercings didn't even come out to discuss it with me... classless. I'll be finding somewhere else to get my piercings done. read more

I moved away from the LB area, yet I will still come all the way over here for my jewelry when I need it. This shop is very small and only has a quite a few handful of jewelry, however they all look great and are very safe to use. I decided to get my first ever body piercing and that would be the naval spot. I came in on a Wednesday afternoon and by my luck, I met Sarah. Prior to this, I have been here a week before and the people who worked there weren't exactly nice.. I came by to get all the information I wanted to know before reaching my final decision. After all, I am very squeamish when it comes to blood and pain. When I came by a week after, I met Sarah and let me tell you, she is amazing! She reassured me that everything is safe and painless, and followed through steps with me on what she's doing. Needless to say, the procedure was quick and painless. Way over-priced! I also did not get the zero gauge plugs that I chose out. I had called the following day, and was told that they are dark because they're in my lobes but, when I cleaned them, they were the black glass plugs that I did NOT choose. I had left a message to let them know & never got a response. My ears have already been a zero gauge for years but since I came in with size 4 plugs, they stil charged me $15.00 for putting zeros in. I had already been charged $86.00 for the jewelry & lip piercing, which I thought had already included putting my new zeros in. I have been getting piercings for years and normally, when you get more than one jewelry, and a piercing, they will hook up a little discount. I am not seeking a hook up but, when a customer does not get the jewelry they chose, a professional business would work with the customer to make things right. I am very disappointed and since they never returned my call, I will never go back. A Damn shame since I do have more piercings in mind. They were kind & courteous when I was there but, over the phone, I feel I was lied to about the plugs being dark because they were in my ears and the ones I chose out were almost completely clear. read more

I went in this morning to stretch my lobes. I brought with me my brother and one of his friends. Two things: (1) as per usual, the service was incredible. Jill handled all of our piercing work this morning and Jeanette handled the front. There was only one hang up, there was trouble closing my selected jewelry, but despite this, Jill kept going at it making sure that I was never in any pain or experiencing any discomfort! Sweet. She also pierced my brother's genitals and his friends' lip. All of the piercings look great! We discussed, on the way home, the importance of having a piercer that takes the time to get to know the client by name and to verbally walk you through the whole process. It makes a world of difference! Jill is no different here, she's down to earth AND she makes the whole process incredible normal and accessible. (2) Somatic was holding a toy drive today, benefiting childrentoday.org. A local based org that does great work! I was very excited to hear them partaking in this venture. Bring in a toy, get your piercing for $10. Freakin' sweet! I will always back any local business that goes out of its way to support local causes like this. They take the price cut so that you come in and donate toys for the holidays. I don't know about anyone else, but this speaks volumes to the type of mental place this business is in. I love it. The first time I got my ears pierced, at a limited too when I was 9, they used a gun and sure enough both ears got infected, one even rejected the earring slowly and now I have a ripped ear. yikes, right? Somatic was great, they made me feel comfortable, and gave me all the info I needed. The studs I got are beautiful and come apart in 3 pieces so it's easy to switch out pieces. This was my first time being pierced with a needle and it was much more pleasant than a gun. It felt like a quick pinch and was a very clean procedure. Loved getting my ear piercings here! I always would get infected ears from going to claire's and the titanium posts they use worked like magic. My ears healed really well with minor swelling and they only feel sore now and sometimes itchy. Great experience here though :) read more

Recieved a lovely nostril piercing on 6/10/16 from Shannon. Service was top notch from start the finish. Called the shop on my way down from work and was offered all information needed with lovely attention to customer service. Upon entering, Elyse greeted me and was super sweet and lovely to chat with. Elyse informed me right away of prices and that there were a few folks ahead of me and that the wait was approximately 30 mins, but once I filled my paperwork out I was welcome to go get a coffee and wander around. So kind! Elyse helped me narrow down which jewelry I wanted and even sterilized the piece for me as it was the last of it's kind after letting me know that I could chose a different piece of I wasn't comfortable with that. The shop was SPOTLESS and very inviting. Shannon came to chat and visit, pre-piercing and was warm and friendly. Once back in the room she explained all details of what she was doing and her bed side manner was calming and full of love. Piercing itself was painless and fun! After a jewelry change I wasn't handed a mirror or anything and unknowingly got the wrong jewelry. It was fixed easily by my installer, which was much appreciated.
