Nanuet, NY - This is the newest location of Sombrero Tacoria (the other three are all in NJ) located at the Shops at Nanuet. It's a great place to grab a quick bite while shopping at the plaza, or before/after catching a movie at Regal cinema which is in the same complex. Sombrero Tacoria applies the fast-casual ethos of chain takeout places with a proper dine-in component that's aesthetically pleasing. The interior is clean, cheerfully decorated, and pristine. In warmer weather, you can also eat on the chic and comfortable outside patio. The food is fresh and tastes good. The birria tacos, their signature item, is pretty awesome. And the child and I always enjoy their quesadilla. While I favor Chipotle's bowls more, this is a much nicer dining experience. The horchata and homemade lemonade are both great. Service is quick, and if you order in, they'll bring the food to your table. For takeout, there are also self order kiosks if you'd rather not order at the counter. Over the summer there was a live DJ on Friday evenings, bringing a festive atmosphere to the restaurant.

The food is very average not authentic at all. However, the customer service is truly poor. They don't know how to communicate with customers. Workers have terrible attitudes ! I been there many times and dealt with poor customer service time and time again. I haven't been for a few months and decided to give it one last try and the worker there was very unprofessional. Prices are outrageous for the portion. I mean a pinch of lettuce is ridiculous!

First time visiting. It is a fast food type vibe with tables for sitting. You order and they bring the food to the table. Place is clean. It was pretty empty when I got there. I had the Signature Birria Tacos (chicken). It comes with a dipping sauce. Food was delivered quickly. The Birria itself was crispy like it was deep fried and tasted fine but it was extremely greasy. An hour later, I can still taste it and may need some ice cream just to get the taste out of my mouth. If you like your tacos extra greasy, you'll like this place. It was a bit too much for me and I won't be back. Photo attached.

After watching a movie, I felt like something light and Sombrero Tacoria looked like the right kind of place. The manager at the counter was very helpful in pointing out all the vegetarian options - well, actually only one veggie "protein" option - sauteed mushrooms, and he recommended the taco trio for a light lunch. The place had recently been redecorated so everything looked bright and clean. Their homemade lemonade was delicious. The tacos, while nicely done and presented, felt a bit too greasy. Orange-colored oil dripped down and pooled in the box. It smelled so much like bolognese sauce that I began to suspect that they cooked the mushrooms in beef fat ... Luckily I didn't get sick, as I usually would if I had consumed food that touched meat. I'd return for other vegetarian options, but may stay away from the mushrooms :-)

Birria is always satisfying. And they were able to add tajin to my marg, which I loved! I always order takeout but actually came in that day, was almost tempted to order more The horchata is always my go to!

Wow this was was fantastic! From the service to the food FANNNN-TASSSS-TIC! The nacho fries were tasty and the chicken was a great addition. So flavorful and a huge portion! The birria tacos were amazing and the consume they service it with was so flavorful BUT the house hot sauce really made them shine. The chorizo, chicken, steak and carnitas were very good as well. My favorite was the carnitas! Yum! We also had the tres leches cake and OMG I wanted to go back and get another 3! By far the best tres leeches cake I have ever had! We will be back soon! Probably tomorrow hahaha

The lengua taco was good, chopped but identifiable, and the tripa was A+ being a bit crunchy and flavorful. All of the tacos came topped the same with onions and cilantro (which was bearable to me and my cilantro gene). The tacos come with limes, a charred onion, and house sauces- the red is less spicy than the green. The sabado y domingo portion of the menu is just things that are available on Saturday and Sunday, such as the barbacoa de chivo, tamales, caldo de pensa, the foods that take time. I would have been tempted but then... tacos. On another weekend visit I would for sure want to try the barbacoa. I wasn't sure if it would be just a counter or not but there are a number of large tables in their space, and the staff will bring the food to you once you order. It's a ultilarian place trying to feed their people on the cheaper side while still giving them tasty food. Parking - it's all street. Tuck in your side mirrors. The streets are narrow. They take card and cash, but the prices are not listed on the menu.

Decor was minimal but nice and comfortable. Had great music in the background (80's rock - yes I'm GenX). We decided to sample a few things so for appetizers we got the mini calzones (sausage and broccoli rabe) that came 3 on a plate and were about the size of a ravioli and stuffed full. Absolutely delicious. Not overwhelming in garlic taste or sausage - a perfect balance. We also got the lobster dumplings. This came in a small bowl with broccoli florets and a tasty sauce. There were 4 dumplings and again, perfect balance, did not have an overwhelming lobster smell at all and the sauce was tangy with a sweet aftertaste. We also had the ahi tuna tacos, came 2 on a plate, piled high with cabbage, a slice of avocado, tuna, and a crème sauce that left me wanting more, and 2 cucumber slices on top. Again - delicious. For dinner we split the Ahi Tuna and it came with Soba Noodles and Bok Choi in a sauce. The tuna was seared with, what tased like, crushed red pepper flakes but it only had a slight "kick" to it. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted so great. We got the polenta on the side and it was perfect for offsetting the spice! Dessert matched the meal in its taste and presentation! We had the dark chocolate mousse and the napoleon. I think the best part of both was the ice cream that came with it, a perfect addition to the dessert and presented with such elegance that you almost didn't want to eat it. Our waiter was fantastic. He gave us some good suggestions that we went with and did not steer us wrong. Right now, they are BYOB. We had a great chat with the chef on our way out and he was super nice and friendly (and he beat Bobby Flay!). This is our new favorite place and can't wait to go back to try more. They have a lunch menu that is different from the dinner menu that I can't wait to try. Chef Michael says his chicken burger is the best! Gotta try it!!

No frills, no flashy atmosphere -- just comida auténtica and seriously satisfying flavors. I ordered the carne asada nachos and an order of tacos al pastor, and both hit the spot perfectly. Fresh ingredients, bold flavor, and that classic street-style taco taste that instantly lifts your ánimo on a gloomy day. The nachos were loaded, cheesy, and packed with flavor, while the al pastor tacos were simple, fresh, and delicioso. And yes... we washed it all down with a Coke Zero in a glass bottle because somehow it siempre tastes better that way. Now, if you're looking for upbeat energy and polished service, este lugar probably isn't it. The staff seemed a bit inexperienced and lacked motivation. But where the service fell short, the kitchen absolutely delivered with authentic flavors and generous portions.
