This mexican restaurant was so cute! I came to eat here while visiting New York and it was such a nice peaceful setting. We chose to sit outside in the cute patio area that had a cute little swing and was just so colorful. I loved all of the decor in the restaurant & the food was just as good as the decor was, thats the best part. I loved when the setting matches the food quality. The prices were very decent, and the food is made fresh. I ordered a chicken quesadilla, chips and guacamole, and loaded nacho fries for my kid. It was all so delicious. Ordered the taco platter for 10 to go. Service was fine, order was ready on time. I have to say these were the worst tacos I've ever eaten. Such a major disappointment with all the positive reviews. I ordered steak and chicken both were terribly dry. The steak was not fresh or tasty in any way. The cheese portion was enough for maybe half the overall tacos....which didn't matter because nobody was going back for seconds. The green salsa was odd and had the consistency of watery guacamole. The corn tortillas were very thick and difficult to eat (even after steaming). Maybe some of the smaller portioned orders come out fresh and tastier but I'm not going back to find out. read more

It's a great place to grab a quick bite while shopping at the plaza, or before/after catching a movie at Regal cinema which is in the same complex. Sombrero Tacoria applies the fast-casual ethos of chain takeout places with a proper dine-in component that's aesthetically pleasing. The interior is clean, cheerfully decorated, and pristine. In warmer weather, you can also eat on the chic and comfortable outside patio. The food is fresh and tastes good. The birria tacos, their signature item, is pretty awesome. And the child and I always enjoy their quesadilla. While I favor Chipotle's bowls more, this is a much nicer dining experience. The horchata and homemade lemonade are both great. Service is quick, and if you order in, they'll bring the food to your table. For takeout, there are also self order kiosks if you'd rather not order at the counter. BY FAR THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I'VE EVER SEEN. They sent us the wrong food order then refused to make it right. Told us to call the delivery guy. I've been ordering from this location for the last three years. Today when I got my takeout order home there was a long hair in one item. I returned to the restaurant and asked that it be remade along with the other item I ordered for sanitary reasons. The person working there got her manger on the phone and when I explained I wanted both items remade I was told no that they would only do one. I expressed that it would make me feel better if I had two new items otherwise I wouldn't come back as a customer. The person on the phone told me no and that he didn't care if I came back or not. First time visiting. It is a fast food type vibe with tables for sitting. You order and they bring the food to the table. Place is clean. It was pretty empty when I got there. I had the Signature Birria Tacos (chicken). It comes with a dipping sauce. Food was delivered quickly. The Birria itself was crispy like it was deep fried and tasted fine but it was extremely greasy. An hour later, I can still taste it and may need some ice cream just to get the taste out of my mouth. If you like your tacos extra greasy, you'll like this place. The manager at the counter was very helpful in pointing out all the vegetarian options - well, actually only one veggie "protein" option - sauteed mushrooms, and he recommended the taco trio for a light lunch. The place had recently been redecorated so everything looked bright and clean. Their homemade lemonade was delicious. The tacos, while nicely done and presented, felt a bit too greasy. Orange-colored oil dripped down and pooled in the box. It smelled so much like bolognese sauce that I began to suspect that they cooked the mushrooms in beef fat ... Luckily I didn't get sick, as I usually would if I had consumed food that touched meat. I'd return for other vegetarian options, but may stay away from the mushrooms :-) read more

Very colorful and festive atmosphere. A lot of effort has been put into making this place feel fun. Food came out quickly and tasted amazing. Not an overload of sauce and salt like other places. There is option for customization but the staff know what they are doing and I would trust their recommendations. Al Pastor Tacos Trio was so good. This is still a nice spot for the ambiance, cleanliness, servers... but for the last two months the food has been too salty for my health. During another visit the texture of the steak was too tough and needed several chews to swallow. That's great if you're practicing mindfulness, but not good for the jaw. It's my first time here in The Sombrero, Nanuet NY, and wow (!) what a great experience. The food was fresh, and fast coming out in 4 minutes, and absolutely delicious. I ordered the Birria Tacos, with dipping sauce, which was a perfectly married quesadilla & griddle taco combo ($15), and Steak Hard Tacos ($15). Customers were happily eating other amazing looking meals, and the music was spot on. The birria tacos were amazing and the consume they service it with was so flavorful BUT the house hot sauce really made them shine. The chorizo, chicken, steak and carnitas were very good as well. There is an option to order at the kiosk. I was able to pick up my own seat. The staff starts to work on the order immediately. They also bring your order to the table. I ordered steak nachos. So... I'm in the area and see "Sombrero Tacoria" , we have Mexican restaurants but few Mexican food franchises, so let's give it a try. Walking in you find a well lit, clean, roomy restaurant , went to the kiosk to order and it was easy to use, ordered 6 tacos de carnitas. With anxious anticipation, I saw my order being prepared. The "carnitas" came from on top of the counter and it was cold. The add ons which were the standard cheese tomato pieces with I guess some whit cheese sauce. Sadly It was bland, the meat was cold and almost flavorless and the toppings did nothing to make it better. What a shame. Most Mexican restaurants find their success in a simple way, flavorful and plenty of meat on two heated tortillas, with cilantro. But f course there's different combinations but more or less the same process for all. Most will come in and probably enjoy the fare but won't know how much better it could be. They have self ordering kiosks which made things easy. I ordered the steak tacos and the chorizo quesadillas which were so delicious. They have outdoor seating which was perfect.
