Over due review. Found this place just this year. Saw some rave reviews on Yelp. So when a friend asked where to get a cake for his wife's 50th, I suggest to order from Some Crust. I had a design in mind for them to copy, it wasn't the exact design but it was pretty. Ordered the chocolate ganache cake. It was delicious! So the following month for my mom's 70th, I ordered from there. I had a design in mind which were the pressed flowers which my dad had been pressing for years and they came out so beautiful!!! I was absolutely IN LOVE with my wedding cake. Not only was the taste amazing but aesthetically beautiful. We were able to pick out what flavors we wanted to sample, and the portions were a great size. I was able to sample with my wedding party no problem. We ended up picking black and white with buttercream and red velvet with cream cheese. Visually I wanted a clean and classic look and they delivered. The filigree on the sides was subtle but elegant. The buttercream on top was not too sweet and very soft. My guest all commented on how delicious it was (and noted that it wasn't overly sweet). Overall, I recommend 100% read more

I ordered my wedding cake from Some Crust Bakery and it was delicious! Gaby was always so quick to respond to my questions and very organized and friendly. During the cake tasting I got to try 6 flavors and I ended up ordering a 3 tier cake - top layer Elvis, middle layer red velvet, and bottom layer chocolate with the European buttercream frosting. Delivery to the venue was in included which was so convenient. I love that on your one year wedding anniversary you can call them and you get a complimentary mini cake of one of the flavors from your wedding. Also cool that if you return the cake boards, you can 12 free cookies! I also ordered the dessert buffet which was so delicious and got so many compliments from guests. I love this little village Cafe in Claremont. This cozy town offers several specialty stores, dining and treats! Some Crust to me, is known for their bakery and delicious egg sliders!! I've been here several times so this review is way overdue. The early morning line and wait for a slider can be long sometimes so order ahead. The staff is nice and friendly. The cafe is always clean stocked with delicious treats and breads. I got my usual egg slider with sausage, mushrooms, spinach, garlic sauce and avocado. Absolute perfection! I would love nothing more than to give this bakery a million stars, but it the fact that they never answer the phone and online ordering is not available makes that impossible. It is very inconvenient to travel to thos location during their hours to order a cake. That said, the bakers are PHENOMENAL and can truly create any type of cake requested (see photo of my baby shower cake as well as the phot that I shared with bakers as inspuration). I absolutely love this bakery and is so glad that I discovered this location near my home. I love their walnut chocolate chip cookies, it is so soft and the size is huge! All their cookies are big and moist. Their other pastries are good as well. Cupcakes are super flavorful and the staff are always friendly. I'm so sad to have to write this review because I've been coming to this bakery for about 15 years and won't be returning. Their pastries and custom cakes are divine and their cake decorators are wonderful. However, their customer service is so severely lacking and the manager I spoke with was not sympathetic at all to what happened. They had one person working the bakery and their line was out the door. I waited 40 minutes for a cake that I had already ordered and paid for weeks ago, they wouldn't give it to me without waiting in line. Multiple people in line were upset with their lack of customer service and staffing and several people just left the line. The employee who helped me flung the liability waiver so rudely from in front of me that me and several people behind me were in shock. Love their pastries and cakes, but not worth the wait and frustration, and I'd rather take my business to an establishment that cares about their customers. read more

I waited an entire year to do this review. One year ago on June 10th was my wedding! I remember walking into the room and meeting my husband for our first dance. I glanced over to the cake and guess what I saw? Some crust bakery forgot to decorate my wedding cake. Yep, you heard me. They forgot to decorate my wedding cake. During the entire process of getting the cake order ready over what was more than a six month period. I sent multiple emails with multiple pictures and they just couldn't really seem to get the communication together. Even the tasting wasn't that great the cake was old and frozen, which I understand because you're tasting multiple cakes. But we couldn't tell which one we liked because honestly, they were just dry. I asked them for new tastings, which made me pay for . So, there's that. The day before my wedding I bought flowers that should've been placed on my cake. Now, When I called them afterwards to let them know what happened, I didn't get an apology. I got, are you sure someone dropped off the flowers? I got a call from someone saying the flowers were putting in the refrigerator and the people decorating didn't see them. You think they would've called but they didn't. so I waited one year. when you get your wedding cake they also will give you a cake for your first wedding anniversary. Cute right? . I put in the order which was pretty easy. I picked it up and the girl was very sweet. But they took absolutely no care over the actual cake itself. They did write happy anniversary on it. It was a white frosting with light yellow writing. I did ask the young girl where they used yellow and she wasn't sure. To be fair she did offer for them to change it, but once I finish telling the story, it wouldn't have mattered either either way. She packaged up the cake for me and I went home. As soon as I got home, I could see the top part of the box completely saturated. When they put the cake in the box, there was no protectant to keep the top from smashing in nor the sides. By the time I got home the the cake was essentially ruined. I wanted to give them more chance to see if they would make it up to me, but they didn't. Now you might ask why I gave them two stars instead of one. Their cake is actually pretty good, when it's fresh. we actually got compliments regarding the cake at our wedding, but that can also be because people felt bad that I was upset at our in decorated cake. I also should share that I asked for $150. refund on the cake and they did give it to me. But to be honest with you, it wasn't enough nor did it make me feel better. It was an experience I was looking for that I missed it during our wedding. It's unfortunate. The good news is , that was the only thing that went wrong with our wedding. Lovely bakery to have worked with on making my mother's 50th birthday cake! They were efficient and quick with their service, and the staff were extremely kind in answering any questions I had. I also want to thank them profusely, as I had requested this cake a little last minute, and they still somehow made such a beautiful cake. We had ordered a 10 inch round cake, which was more than enough for 15 guests as we still have so much leftover! The 'Miss Divine' combination truly lives up to its name. Delicious, decadent, and not too sweet! The cake was absolutely gorgeous as well, they truly captured my vision. Unfortunately I've got to reduce my previous rating...I come here all the time(over 15 check-ins alone), but it's been getting slower and slower as of late it seems. I came for lunch on a Tuesday, and ordered a slider and a Italian club at 12:15. It was not crowded here at all, but was told it would be about 20 min to get my order. Now while that seems like a bit long...20 min was fine and I was happy to wait. I take a seat, and I'm reading articles on my phone and realized it's now 12:40... But its okay, maybe they're running a little over, so I continue to wait...now it's 12:45 and I have to be back at work at 1pm...so I went to the front to ask and was assured that they were finishing up my order. Fast forward to 12:50 and they finally call my name and I get my sandwich, but with no time to actually eat it before I have to be back to work. I loved Some Crust so my husband and I decided to go with them for our wedding cake. They were very nice and informative, and we picked a design from their book of cake styles so they 100% knew what we wanted. I also had my grandparents cake topper from their wedding that I wanted placed on the cake and Gaby (the person we met with that helped with our cake tasting) said to bring in a template of how big this cake topper is so the cake decorator would know exactly where not to decorate for the top of the cake. The day of the wedding comes and we see that the cake is NOT the design we chose. The design was not the same and the cake topper hadn't even been placed on the cake. We didn't let it bother us on our day but a week later, I reached out to Gaby who completely did not apologize or even attempt to correct this but instead made it sound like it was not Some Crust's fault and made a whole bunch of excuses. I sent her a picture of the cake we wanted and what they gave us and there hasn't been a reply since. If you decided to get your cake here then be prepared for this to happen. This bakery saw me at various stages growing up in this small town. The food isn't just made with quality it's made with love. Lines can be seen down the street because their cookies sell out that fast! My favorite is the almond short bread cookie with fruit preserves. The raspberry pin wheel pastry, bear claw and almond croissants are great to bring to the office or home! This bakery knows how to wrap your items to ensure they are travel friendly. Years ago I made the acquaintance of Some Crust via these mysterious scones resembling clumps of lumpy batter that one of my father's research and publishing partners provided when they hashed out editing and methodology details in our dining room. The frequency was almost monthly for several years. Finally, I asked where they came from as their unique taste turned into a favorite. He said where, it figures though since he lived in the Claremont Village and frequented the downtown. I ventured forth and was delighted to find excellent pour-over coffee options were a specialty. Plus, their baked goods and confections were unlike anything else I'd seen in the landlocked IE up to that point (c. 2003). Already I was a frequent shopper at Rhino Records just up the street, grabbed bagels at 42nd Street Bagels, and browsed the usual instrument collection at the Folk Music Store. Presently, Claremont Village is an expanded but accessible motley assortment of trending restaurants, specialty boutiques and much more. Despite the expansion of options (beyond, say Starbucks) for coffee, Some Crust has not only held their own, but now occupies the adjacent space making it effectively two small neighborhood-style shops. Verdict: Get the cupcakes earlier in the day so they are moist, otherwise, proceed with gusto for any cookie, scone, muffin or bread you might see. Ergo their fantastic organic single-origin coffees. There are two adjacent shops, so if you go into one and don't see many baked goods make sure to go next door where the selection is much, much bigger. They have anything you could want, from amazing looking gourmet cupcakes to croissants of every ilk and lots of coffee and tea drinks. My iced chai was too sweet, so if you get one, ask if they can only put in half the sweetener. My almond croissant was huge and tender. I'm pretty sure that I could have chosen anything in the case and it would have been good. Prices are reasonable and there are a few tables outside to sit at. read more

Food poisoned I hate to post this since this place seems like it's loved by many but I think this is important to share. I'm not sure which item(s) gave me stomach problems; felt like food poisoning. We were there 05/29 AM and ordered the following: - ICED MOCHA - this one took the longest (20mins) and when I got it, there was an oily film around the plastic cup. I wiped it down but it tasted odd and I can't identify what i was tasting. Burnt coffee, used cooking oil? It didn't taste like coffee. I took a few sips and threw away the rest - TURKEY AND CHEESE CROISSANT - The turkey was hard around the corners, kinda chewy but the croissant was very good and flaky - CHEESE CROISSANT- This one was excellent. Great taste and texture. I ate half and intended to eat the rest after dinner for an evening snack but didn't get the chance to. Roughly 2 - 3 hours after I felt nauseated and it upset my stomach so bad and so fast. Bathroom runs (TMI sorry) and bed for the rest of the day and the following day. I was so bummed I wasted a holiday in bed PS. I have to mention though, the gentleman serving and ringing up the people was very friendly and happy, and it was quite refreshing. I wish there were separate ratings for people and food because I would totally rate him a 5 read more
