LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS Place! So glad there's a German restaurant nearby that I absolutely adore. My favorite area to sit is in their patio, especially being able to watch the sun set. I love getting their schnitzel, but when I only come for Happy Hour, I always get their full fries order which comes with 3 sauces. I also always get a BRLO IPA. My friends decided to order their fried pickles, the soup of the day, and their pretzel. The service was great! We were getting checked on very often and the staff is super sweet. Really cool place to sit outside on there patio area to enjoy dinner and a drink in a great location downtown Claremont. I've walked by this for many years and finally tried it the food was average I got the Back Abby burger it was okay the patty wasn't cooked as I requested and it had caramelized onions at the bottom which made the bun so soggy I couldn't pick it up. They have large drink menu with a seasonal section the drinks were nothing special I had the smokey and the bandit. This bar is nice and low key. It's directly behind a hotel in downtown Claremont. The ambiance is chill, not too fancy and you can dine inside or outside. I met a friend here to have a few drinks and appetizers. The tequila selection is pretty decent. I love when I can find additive free tequilas and this place has one of my favorites! I ordered a double shot near of the Fortaleza Reposado. I also ordered the cheese board and crab cakes. The cheese board was divine, everything was fresh and everything paired so well. This is a lovely spot to chill out for happy hour. We went around 3pm and they had plenty of room in the patio. Service was prompt and when they didn't have one of the beers we wanted, the server brought out a free sample of a similar one for us to try. Unfortunately for vegetarians the fries are advertised as being fried in duck fat so we did not try them but the pretzel was delightful especially with the mustard that comes with it. The fried pickles were also perfect, hot, and crispy. The two sauces with the pickles were really lovely too. The beignets were only ok, I would probably skip them next time unless I have a larger group to share since there are a good number of them in one order. My friends recommended this spot for dinner when I came to visit them in Claremont, and Back Abbey is the perfect spot for casual dates, family get-togethers, or large group gatherings. Since we had a large group, we got seated outside and I appreciated they had heating lamps since it was freezing out. I love their huge selection of beers and I ended up going with a seasonal holiday light ale. We ordered 2 full cones of their pomme frites, which was sooo crispy and fresh! You can taste the duck fat and it paired really nicely with both their sauces. For my entree, I went with the Back Abbey burger and it was perfectly cooked medium-rare. We ordered The Abbey burger and an order of fries. Their burger was delicious and juicy! The salad was good but had too much dressing for my liking. The fries were thin and crunchy. Certain cocktails were $11 and it was $2 off beer and wine. They also had duck fat fries for $6.50 which I highly recommend. I just had to take the plunge despite my cholesterol numbers. Made from fresh potatoes they are really tasty with a surprising crisp to them. A small yet generous serving will set you back $6.50. I had their Cabernet from Paso Robles which was smooth and delicious. I don't recall the name but it was the only cab on the menu for $15 a glass. On Wednesdays full bottles are half off. Making a reservation was a little complicated as you have to email them and you will hear back in a couple of days. I just prefer immediate feedback as to whether the reservation is ok. We were seated outdoors and there was a band playing next to the premises. Really lively and fun atmosphere. The kids had burgers which were great and everyone loved the fries. The adults ordered the mussels. The sauce was so good. It was a good sized serving: my husband and I shared the mussels and fries. It was more than enough! Service was prompt and professional.
