I visited 42nd Street Bagel Café in Claremont today and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. I ordered two sesame bagels, toasted, with cream cheese on the side, and two everything bagels, toasted, with cream cheese on them. When the employee took my order, she repeated it back correctly as two sesame bagels and two everything bagels. However, when I received my order and checked it before leaving, I discovered that I had only been given two sesame bagels and one everything bagel. When I politely asked about the missing everything bagel, the employee insisted that I had only ordered one. She also refused to provide her name when asked. Instead of resolving the issue professionally, I was required to pay again for the missing bagel. The dismissive attitude and lack of customer service were disappointing. As a former New Yorker, I was equally disappointed with the bagels themselves. The restaurant promotes a New York-style bagel experience, but these bagels did not resemble the authentic New York bagels I grew up eating. They lacked the characteristic chew, texture, and flavor that make New York bagels famous. The bagels were also barely toasted. Rather than having a crisp exterior and warm center, they seemed only lightly warmed. A properly toasted bagel should have some crunch and color, and these simply did not. Mistakes happen in every restaurant, but how those mistakes are handled is what matters. My recommendation to future customers is to carefully inspect their order before leaving the counter. Unfortunately, based on this experience, both the customer service and product quality fell well below expectations. read more

OMG!! The bagel place on foothill in Laverne just moved to new ownership and got rid of a whole bunch of beloved bagels...... Lucky for me I found this place and they have a greater variety and even greater overall bagel satisfaction!! I was like a kid in a candy shop! Pumpernickel, onion and cheese, Italian..... see the photos. Great tasting dough, they were boiled to perfection before baking.... Perfect skin and chew!!!!! Fantastic self serve iced tea, this is a biggie for me too!! Service is fast and friendly. Cool vibe inside with plenty of tables, no need to wrestle for them. This has been my favorite bagel place since the 90's. I do remember they played with a bigger variety of bagel flavors compared to today. I haven't been here at least 13 years and I was in town with my daughter so we decided to get a bagel and coffee here for breakfast. The restaurant is exactly how I remembered it and the service is still exceptional. I got the garlic bagel with the salmon/lox spread. It was just as good as how I remembered it. I came by 42nd Street Bagel Cafe with my fiancé when we were just walking by after getting coffee. We noticed the long line and wanted to see what the hype was about. I will say that it was quite busy and the line was long but it went by super fast! There is quite a selection of bagels that they seem to make fresh everyday. Be sure to come early in the morning if you want a specific bagel. They tend to run out of certain bagels by the end of the morning. We both got a jalapeño cheese BLT bagel and it was just so delicious! I like how the bagels come with a side option which is very nice! I chose the veggies and my fiancé got the fruit. I also really like how the theme of the cafe is based off 42nd street in New York. It took me a second to put together when I was dining inside and all the decor had Broadway shows everywhere. I used to work down the street from this shop and looked forward to their bagels. Chewy, lovely golden brown crispy exterior. I haven't had their bagels in a couple of years. I wonder if they changed their recipe? My bagel looked pale. When I picked it up to slice it, it felt underbaked. After a nice little toast and a swipe of cream cheese, the total disappointment set in. It wasn't chewy. It was gummy and under baked. The service was very nice and it's always been clean. Our prior visit the food was delivered to us. This time unbeknownst to us, our food sat inside on the counter. We finally went into check on our order. Unfortunately the food was not warm by then. My wife ordered me a sandwich to go because I had to take my son to a ice cream event close by. I took the box that was packed for me which had a croissant sandwich and a salad packed. I got home and was disgusted by what I saw , old dirty lettuce and mauled bagels as if someone had bitten into it. The staff suggestion that the coneggtion breakfast bagel sandwich was one of their most popular items, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Not bad! This sandwich plus iced tea made for a perfect combination on an overcast day. The bagels were nice and toasted, and the egg and bacon were just right. This place has a broadway feel with all these musical posters in the restaurant. The inside was dimly lit and had a chill ambiance to it. Almost every table was taken which was a pretty awesome sign too. The service itself wasn't bad with staff welcoming and thanking all of us for our orders. The knock for one star was mixing up a few orders or patrons getting confused with which order belonged to whom, but eventually all was figured out. I was in that mix too. Great New York style bagel shop in downtown Claremont! You gotta come early if you want the wide variety of bagels as it sells out quick! We got the Vox Bagel and a default bagel with the garlic herb cream cheese. The Vix bagel has two strips of salmon on each bagel and generous with a side as well. 12.95 is a decent price for it, and it was delicious. The garlic herb cream cheese was SO delicious and flavorful. Probably one of the best cream cheeses I've ever had! Plenty of condiments and utensils and eats inside and out. Parking may be harder to find in downtown. Highly recommend if you are looking for an afternoon or morning breakfast! read more

This small bagel shop is 10/10 would recommend. Upon entering the shop, you instantly get hit with the smell of fresh bagels. It is absolutely heavenly. I love that there's so many options to choose from, but this time I had to go with a classic everything bagel with creamed cheese. I will say it did take longer than I expected to receive the bagel but that day I wasn't in a particular rush. I had some time to sip on their coffee, which was pipping hot and perfect for the cold day. As far as flavor for the coffee, it was pretty basic, but not in a bad way. The bagel came out very warm and they definitely didn't skimp on the cream cheese. Came from the SFV to have breakfast with my old boss. We walked to the Claremont Village Eatery and the meal was delightful. So much food! I had the Lemon-Blueberry pancakes and she had one of the delicious breakfast sandwiches. I had my left-over pancakes for dinner. Just a dependable bagel place. They offer a variety of bagels and schmears. Their cream cheeses are fine but not notable. I usually get the Lox, Stock, and Bagel. They are usually pretty busy and close early. Service is pretty quick. Their tables are usually pretty full, but plenty of people get takeout. A soft edible bagel I feel like is the bare minimum, but the bagel I was given was as firm as a hockey puck that just came off the ice. My expectations were already low coming into a bagel shop in Claremont but somehow this place set a new standard. Save your money and spend your $10 anywhere else for your own sake. read more

The bagels here are pretty good and exactly what you need when you want a bagel. Their lox bagel with all of the fixings is pretty expensive, but they do try to load you up with some extra sides and a pickle. They do get pretty busy around here in the morning, so I recommend leaving ample room before getting to work! read more

The flavor of the bagels is good but the amount of oil that comes off them is off putting when heating up.
