Great atmosphere. As strangers in a small town, we didn't feel out of place. There was a down home friendly feel to the restaurant side and a fun rowdy feel on the bar side. The staff were great at their jobs, friendly, and genuine. We didn't feel rushed or neglected. The food was very good. Though I only had the chicken wing special (apparently it's a Thursday night thing), it were excellent. I still want more. My friend had a salad with salmon and liked it a lot. We had a wonderful experience here. This restaurant is in the cute downtown core of Elkhorn. We parked on the street; there was plenty of parking. The salad was pretty much a side salad. With the runniest ranch dressing I've ever seen. So now let's get to the wings. I ordered the fire cracker sauce wings. And I'm still trying to figure out we're the firecracker comes from. But that's not the worst of it. The wings were just these big glob of oily breading caked over the driest wings I've ever had. And when I told the bartender (who had the personality of a wet noodle) his repose as. "We'll... everyone loves our wings". I ordered a taco salad and the meat was wayyyy over salted- I believe to cover the taste of the old, cooked meat. As someone who loves salt, this is saying a lot. Based on the texture and taste the meat must have been sitting for at least 4/5 days. I hate about half without sending it back- a decision which I later regretted. Once we got home I immediately became sick due to food poisoning which I know I got from eating here. Ironically, my mothers patty melt was not salted or seasoned at all. Fries are solid. My party had the filet, a burger, chicken pot pie and they all loved their food. The desserts are to die for. I love Wisconsin for many different reasons: the cheese, the beer, the shepherds pie.... Yes, the Shepherds Pie at Someplace Else in Elkhorn is out of this world. The flakiest damn pie crust I've ever had. It will surely change your life. I came to town on business and when I asked the desk clerk at the Hampton what he recommended for a good place for dinner, he said: "you should go to someplace else." I looked at him a little odd and he told me about this local bar and restaurant in downtown Elkhorn. I'm all about Mom & Pop kind of places, so this was an easy choice now that I wasn't offended. This is your tried and true Wisconsin bar/supper club. The bartender, Mike, was very friendly and definitely sold me on the house specials: the baked french onion soup and the shepherds pie (which was already on my mind). The french onion was, literally, one of the best soups I have ever had - thick, melted mozzarella with big chunky soup soaked croutons and a savory onion soup that is just awesome. Check my posted photo. The shepherds pie, as I subtly eluded to, is pretty good, I guess... The flaky crust is just great, with a mix of perfectly done hearty vegetables. it's so big - I should have only ate half, but I cleaned my plate as every good boy should. An easy dish for two to share, though. The best part about Someplace Else is that it's very affordable, everything is reasonably priced and comes with a more than generous helping. This is the type of place that I wish every neighborhood or small town was lucky enough to have. After visiting the Elkhorn Antique Flea Market on a Sunday afternoon, this was one of the few places open for an early dinner. Not our first choice, but it seemed okay. Upon entering, there were many tables sitting empty, but not bussed or washed. It took awhile for someone to greet us. After that, the greeter took more time to wash down a table not of our choosing before seating us. I asked if we could take the two top near the window, and the reply was, 'well, that will take me more time to clean that one too'. So we stood and waited while he continued the first table he was working on, then slowly cleaned the table and chairs of the second one. Sigh. The friendly waitress, Ashley K., came and took our drink order. She brought back my beer without a glass, so I requested one. No problem. A dirty glass was brought. I mean, with crud hardened onto it. She had gone somewhere at that point, so I walked to the bar myself and requested a clean glass. The young man behind the bar gave me a different one which appeared clean. I walked back to our table, sat and poured my beer, and went to take a sip, and was immediately assailed by an awful odor. I would describe it as between gym socks and washbucket water after cleaning a floor. Truly retch-worthy. My dining companion also grimaced upon smelling it. Again, I walked to the bar. I said 'please smell this', he did, and he said 'that's just the way that beer smells'. I said, 'are you sure?' 'Oh yes, very sure. It just smells like that.' So I asked for another clean glass, and smelled that one. UGH!!!! Same disgusting dirty smell. I said, I can't drink this, and I'd like you to replace my beer and I'll just drink it from the bottle.' He did so, and I walked back to my seat, but while my back was turned there was a loud crash like he had thrown something. I don't know if he did or not, but it was not a very polite interaction. A bit later, the waitress came back after having been told about the issue. She apologized and explained that their dishwasher barely works, and it takes four or five tries before things get clean and rinsed. I don't fault her, of course, but this is completely unacceptable and should probably be reported to the health department. We had our lunch and it was fine, my daughter said it was one of the better gluten free pizzas she's had. I had a chicken wrap and that was good too. No one got sick, so that was very good. But I would not go back, especially not to eat anything off any dishes or drink from any glassware. My wrap was entirely served on paper in a plastic basket, thank goodness. The pizza was on a metal pan. We genuinely felt bad for Ashley K. because she is an excellent waitress and deserves to work for a much better restaurant. read more

We stumbled in here at the tail end of the first Winter snow of 2020 - oh for a warm welcome on a snowy COVID Wisconsin afternoon! And yes, it was warm and delightful. If you're looking for the classic "dark wood, mirrors and wall signs" kind of place, you've found it. But the food is really what makes the stop special. It was lunch and we ordered "burger and beer," kind of thing. We got half-pound patties of local angus beef and possibly the best "pure burger" I've had in a long long time. It's the beef ... fresh, unprocessed, not "blended" with "something else," and just plain well cooked. I had the mushroom-swiss and my Bride had a basic cheese burger. Both had good cheese and were offered with a choice of sides. Good service and a reasonable selection of draft beers. Elkhorn is a nice stopping point or place to over-night. Quality of service was excellent despite restaurant being busy.. The freakin fries appetizer was a good portion and heavy on the ranch sauce which was fantastic. The firehouse burger is saucy and moist and served on a toasted brioche. You also get 2 sides which is an obsessive amount of food but delicious. Definitely the place to hang out. While i know they are known for their chicken pot pie, we had the pot pie, and while it tasted good, we happened to not get much chicken in ours. Im talking 2 chunks in mine and 3 in my friends. And believe me when you tell them they get really nasty. The waitress actually brought the cook out and they were so hateful they said we are known for our chicken pot pie and we're like that's OK but there's hardly any chicken in ours. Never went back. UPDATE: if you want a truly superior chicken pot pie make the trip to the elegant Farmer you can buy an already made one or you can buy a frozen one and bring it home and cook it. I bought the frozen and I'm telling you it was the best chicken pot pie I have ever had, stuffed full of chicken and veggies delicious. Second visit here; as with the first time, stopped by after a round of golf with friends. The five of us came by late afternoon on a Saturday. Two got the chicken pot pie, another opted for the French dip, someone else had the Reuben. The last member of the group went with a grilled cheese. All enjoyed their meals...the beer was cold, the Pinot Grigio crisp, and the Absolut and cranberry nice and strong. The server was great. I just got home from dinner. I had to write a review immediately. I have been looking for good wings in Walworth County for months now... I love wings so much. Holy moly this place has them. I happened to go on the wing special night too!! (Thursday) 20 wings for $15 or 10 for $8. I got 20. The firecracker sauce is soooo good. It's got a little kick and a lot of savory. Also the Honey Buffalo was great. Mike the bartender was super kind and was eager to see how we enjoyed the wings. These wings are HUGE. I've been to Someplace Else several times, and the food is always excellent. They have a great variety of options with something for everyone. Tonight I had their Chicken Tetrazzini for the second time, and it is AMAZING. As is their French Onion Soup. We also tried their Pumpkin Butterscotch Bread Pudding, which was the perfect fall comfort dessert. My only complaint would be that the service is extremely slow, or maybe it's just one or two of the servers who work there. Tonight, it seemed that our server walked past our table every couple of minutes without stopping. My water was empty for at least 10 minutes, and at least 4 walk-bys from our server, before I finally said something to her as she walked past. It wasn't a dinner rush, so I'm not sure why it was like this. All in all, we'll be back. I do hope, however, that they make some efforts to step up the service. read more

Great little restaurant in Elkhorn with a good selection of food. The food is delicious and fresh. I only gave it 4 stars because service was a bit slow, but I understand that's a bit of a trend these days due to lack of workers. Also they seemed a bit skimpy on the fries that came with my sandwich. Their fries are absolutely delicious and the amount on the plate seemed about 1/2 of what they use to be. Maybe charge a bit more to offset rising prices in lieu of cutting the serving size??? read more

I have boasted about this restaurant before. I had out of town guests come in and we went for friday night fish fry. Our waitress was kind, fish was okay, but when we got our bill we were shocked. Advertised prices in the menu were average, got our bill and meals were $3-4 more than on menu. Tried talking to the manager but the immaturity from her was ridiculous. She literally walked away and would not discuss it. All she said was the prices went up. Well then run some menus off that are updated. Not really difficult to do. Of course your restaurant would probably be more empty than it was last night. I will find a new place to call my favorite place to go in town. And yes, I will go SOMEPLACE ELSE! The Jury Room has a pretty good fish fry. AND there prices are great. read more

Someplace Else is definitely a gem in Downtown Elkhorn. They're doing a whole lot fo things right with the menu - they focus on doing a modest number of dishes and doing them very well with fresh ingredients and well prepared food. I've been here several times and have had both the Stuffed Chicken (a great take on Chicken Cordon Bleu) and Parmesan Crusted Chicken each time. They've been so great I haven't wanted to venture on to anything else yet. Their other signature chicken dish is Chicken Pot Pie that I have not tried but companions have loved. On the burger side they have HUGE pub burgers that are always a hit with my son. The same attention to freshness and detail extends to the burgers as well. The staff has always been inviting and attentive even on busy Friday nights. Overall a great pub experience but with excellent food. My only small quibble would be they close a bit early for sometimes late habits. Small quibble at best though. Overall you should like the experience! read more

Upon planning my trip I saw this place on Yelp and wanted to try it. The selection and reviews looked good. I came 2:30 on a Wednesday. Looked like only 1 couple at a table. Waitress was at the end of the bar. No one at the bar. I walked more than halfway in so she could see me. She turned and walked to the register (okay, in the middle of something) rang up whatever, turned toward me, then turned and went in the back w/o acknowledging me. I assume from this that business is great. That losing 1 customer is not a big deal. I wish I had stayed in Lake Geneva and ate rather than driving here. read more
