This sunny Saturday afternoon had a peak of 84° at 12:39 pm. We came to quickly hang out and spectate at the Sierra Madre- Firefighters Car Show. There where some incredible rare, classic and restored vehicles. However, one of the things that surely drives me away from anything else is hunger. So I needed to eat Something Healthy. ;) Something Healthy Cafe is located at the center of Downtown Sierra Madre. Despite the many people around, there were multiple places to eat and dine, so there was no wait. We entered into this charming home appealing cafe. The food was amazingly fresh, organic, well prepared and equally balanced with flavors. The preparation has been well thought. They ladies were very helpful, friendly and welcoming. Since this was our first time, we were also given a choice of free pastries. Yummy. 5 Stars all around, seriously. No complaints, delicious, clean and the ambiances was calm and relaxing. Feeling a bit peckish and stopped in this little place. The food is great--had the coconut curry soup and it was delish. But what struck me the most was the owner's kindness and generosity. I was hemming and hawing about the soups. When I asked about the coconut curry, he offered me a sample. SOLD. Then I said I might come back for a drink and he offered it to me on the house bc it was my first time here. I had the blueberry lemonade, which was also lovely. Then I realized I like my soup to have a little crunch (don't judge!) and asked about the chips. To my shock they were a very reasonable price (under $2). He didn't even roll his eyes when he had to ring my last minute purchase up again. Everywhere I look inside, there's positive messages and vibes: they're selling a shirt to support the local first responders with 100% of the net proceeds, they're committed to volunteering and feeding those in need. So, this didn't start well. We came in and ordered sandwiches and sat down. And waited. And waited. And waited. And eventually it had gotten to the point of being ridiculous so finally we got up and asked about it. They didn't make it. What happened, I don't know, but they eventually started making it. They came over and gave us each a dessert as an apology, which instantly got them a star back. The sandwiches felt like a pretty decent value for what they cost. Mine was good. Not amazing, but good considering the cost. My finance got the pesto with vegan chicken and she did not care for the vegan chicken. Needed some kind of preparation other than just warming up. Very plain. Overall I'd come back because I think the incident was likely isolated and freak. Prolly realistically 3 1/2 stars but now that I have something in my stomach I'll round up. Edit: after we were done the manager came over and gave us a couple gift cards for free meals in the future to say they were sorry. They have a drink selection for everyone. They even offer a lot of the non sugar mixes. They are amazing as well. I mixed myself mine up and free refills. The staff was so friendly. There is a lot of parking every where. In front, on the side streets and they also have a huge parking lot across the street. They have a relaxing atmosphere inside and out. They place is decorated so sweet with a nice warm friendly vibe. The prices were very reasonable. I pay close to 30.00 and that doesn't include tip for the same salad down the street. Mine was 15.00. What an amazing place my wife and I found in Sierra Madre Village. We met the owner Richie Rich, and he opened his doors and heart to all the passerby at the restaurant. The lady at the register was so cordial and accommodating. We enjoyed all three vegan soups with wonder Rosemary sandwich on Multigrain bread. The protein we chose was salmon. It was delicious. The Caribbean Sandwich has a nice kick of spice to it...as well as some sweet and acidity from the mango salsa. , The Rosemary Sandwich is true to its name with great flavor. So glad that Something Healthy Cafe opened a new location here in Sierra Madre. I enjoyed their cafe in Monrovia. Their sandwiches are delicious while only using simple, delicious, and healthy ingredients. I had their turkey pesto sandwich today and I loved that it has both avocado and roasted bell pepper, which has added layers of flavor. I also loved their sandwiches are grilled and pressed. Despite the recent ingredient cost increase across all food industry, I find Something Healthy Cafe's price to be very good. Most places would charge the same price without the side chips/salad. In addition, they would provide kid meals for free, making this an incredible value for family with multiple young kids. I am so glad they are now closer in Sierra Madre.
