We recently moved to Worthington from Cincinnati. A couple weeks ago we went on a ride and stopped at Son of Thurman in Galena, OH. We had eaten a few weeks before at Son of Thurman in Delaware, OH, snd enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. We liked the atmosphere in this restaurant too, and we asked the waitress for her recommendations. She said they were known for their hamburgers. We had split the Philly Cheese steak in Delaware so we decided to get a burger for each of us. I don't like French Fries so I got a Side Salad instead. The salad came first and it could have been a meal itself. A little later the MushroomBurger and the Blue Cheese burger arrived. They were huge. I don't think I have had a hamburger this large in a very long time! What we couldn't eat we brought home and I think my wife had 2-3 more meals from the French Fries and the burger . Had an Italian sub with french fries here. The Italian sub was huge as I got the large sandwich and super well flavored with all the different meats cheeses and garnishes. French fries are always the star for me here as they do a great job of keeping it crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. Came in for lunch. There were two servers. The shorter one was really excellent and didnt stop working the entire time. The other one was nice enough but worked the room at a much slower pace and was far more chatty- which when you only have two people and a lot of customers..... maybe less chatting. We came in and ordered fries. They came out really quick. Almost too quick to cook. They were also cold. We sent them back and then there was a long delay. We did get them. They were super fresh. Nice and hot. If you dont like seasoning... remember to order them without salt. They use a lot of seasoning/salt. We then ordered a reuben pizza thin and buffalo wings. The wings are huge. Meaty. Stopped by after Outlet shopping. It's under 10 min drive and so worth it! We had some cold brews (lost coast) and belly fillers. I got the By Thor burger. First time coming here. The atmosphere was very relaxed and all the staff were very welcoming. I think my favorite part of my meal were the French fry's! I love crispy fry's and these didn't disappoint. The only thing I would say is that I requested a gluten free bun and my husband requested no onions. Both were forgotten. They ended up bringing a bun out to me to swap, but the burger was so big I really couldn't swap it out without making a huge mess. We plan to try it again because everything tasted great! read more

We found this restaurant on Yelp as we were passing through Ohio. What a stroke of luck. This place is a hidden gem. We had one of the best hamburgers and fries I've had in my life. I believe it was called the Johnny burger, horseradish cheese and blue cheese on a 3/4 burger cooked to perfection. We also had buffalo wings that were awesome. First experience at Thurman Jr's. Loved it!!! Soooo much more room than the original location!!! Our party of 9 was quickly seated & the staff handled everything from drinks to apps to entrees in a perfect fashion. Pretzel Bites, Reuben Balls, Fried Pickles - wonderful. WOW! This is a great spot. Locally owned with awesome waitresses that are very friendly and attentive. We had reservations with a group of 11 and seated right away. Great drink menu with craft beer. Known for their burgers you can't go wrong. This could be a hidden gem Bar style decor but the entire group lived it. I would be back and you should stop also or miss out. read more

1st time at this Thurmans in Galena and let me just say WE Loved it. We sat out back on a very large nice deck overlooking woods. Ashley was our server and she was so Pleasant , Attentive on spot on. The food taste Fantastic, we started off with a Large Pizza Crisp and in my opinion it truly is one of my Top 3 Pizza's in C-Bus we followed that up with the Famous Thurman Hamburger and is was as it always is The Best Burger in Columbus or surrounding areas. After reading some of the negative reviews, I was hesitant to eat here but I was surprised. The cheeseburger was actually good. I like my burgers well done and I was very pleased that it came out this way despite the patty being so large. It wasn't dried out. In fact it looked greasy but didn't taste greasy which was unexpected. We got the Big 3 cheeseburger and we chose the pepper jack, American and cheddar cheese. The fries were big fries and just okay to me. I think I would have liked them if they were fresh and not quite so cooked. They were dry but edible. Something I definitely did not expect was a $2.99 share plate fee. I had never heard of this before. And I hope this isn't a new thing that restaurants are now starting to do because we often share a big meal at restaurants. Ambiance-to me, it's more of a bar than a restaurant. We visited during the day on a weekday. I'm not sure what it looks like at night. None of the customers were rude or disorderly. There were five others at the bar. We sat outside on the patio on the nicest day of the year. Did you know their burgers are 3/4 pounds?!? Thankfully there is a senior burger, which is about the same portion as the junior burger (6 oz.), but the junior burger comes with fries and the senior burger doesn't. Literally thought it'd just be a regular ol' burger but little did I know it'd be the GOLIATH of burgers. I ordered the Thurman Burger and committed to the 3/4 lb patty because I ain't no bish. Y'all, I'm from California so I'm used to the thin patties they serve at In n out. Boy was it an undertaking to finish the burger but, hey, I'm not complaining. Every single bite was savory, succulent, and to-die-for. And I demolished it. Oh and let's not forget their fries. TLDR: Nice server and fun dinner, but way too expensive. The food was fine. It wasn't super special, but it was ok. My husband's burger was fine, but lukewarm. My veggie burger was pretty good, if not way too big. However, the kids' drinks were priced for EACH glass (not stated on the menu). That means we paid more for their drinks than our beers. $14 bucks for two Sprites and two lemonades is crazy. Our bill was $95 for average food and Bud Lights. I mean, it's Galena and not German Village. It was a $60 meal at best. I'm all for paying for what you get, but man that was a lot. Our server was really nice, but stretched way too thin. We previously had a great experience at Thurman downtown, so we knew we'd have a similarly awesome time at this spot. The food was delicious and service was awesome! For apps we split the garlic parmesan and buffalo wings, along with the fried pickles and we were all very happy with these choices. The burgers are (obviously) the stars of the show but I really enjoyed my chicken salad sandwich and my sister liked the cheese pizza thin too. Wednesday nite we went an hour before closing. We were worried that it may be too late, but they said to come on in. I ordered a Kansas City burger, junior sized. Even tho it was JUNIOR, it was huge. I took home leftovers. Meat is cooked to order and the fries are fresh cut, similar to fair fries. My husband ordered similar, but no leftovers for him. We came in on a Friday night a few weeks before Christmas- it was a bit busy, so we had to wait about 20 minutes. I'd say that was the most negative part of our experience by far. The problem is, you have to wait outside, because there's no really no place to stand inside, or else you're standing right over someone's table where they're eating. Our kids ordered the pizza because they almost always do, but I have to admit, they didn't love it. They said it was too greasy, but hey, I liked it. I'm not picky when it comes to pizza. I had the Angie's grilled cheese with french fries, but of which were greet. My wife and in-laws liked their food too. I appreciated the draft selection and took advantage of the options. But moreso, it was the great service and the atmosphere. Stopped for lunch on a Saturday. Place has the look and feel of a tired old bar / restaurant. Not impressive, but not bad. Service was very quick and friendly. Beer was cold. Fried banana peppers were a great starter. Could spend the day eating them, drinking beer and watching football. Did order a mushroom burger. Opted for the larger one - it is a lot of beef and almost too big to eat. It was good. Ordered medium well at the suggestion of the waitress vs my usual medium. I should have stayed with medium.
