He is awesome with catering to each of our levels and keeps it interesting and fun. I basically lined up a week's worth of intro lessons with various teachers and when we got to James my daughter said she loved him and wanted me to cancel the rest of the intros and stay with James. His lessons are fun, informative, as well as laid back which is really nice in terms that he lets the lesson go where it needs to go in order to let things sink in. I think it's really important for my kids to have lessons like that so they don't get bored or uninterested. James is patient, kind, funny and an excellent teacher! We're all very happy with James and I highly recommend him to beginners as well as seasoned pianists. I've been playing piano for about 4 years now and I really wanted to start writing songs on the piano and James happily obliged, and it's really helping me to continue to read notes, and now start memorizing piano chords. I'm going to keep doing it because the class not only helps my singing become better, it is simply a very nice group of people with whom to share 90 minutes or so once a week. There are some classmates who are professional-level who are there to polish their craft, and there are others like me who love music and singing, but who aren't going to be giving performances anywhere - except maybe at home in the shower (great acoustics!) and/or at a Karaoke place. The teacher, Ann, is a highly accomplished singer, piano player, and accompanist (being a great piano player does not necessarily mean you can be a great accompanist - she is). She continues to amaze me because I want to sing a very wide variety of songs, several of which we do not have the music for, and/or she has not played before. No matter, she pulls up as little as a chord chart and off we go. Her husband, Geno, is also there to accompany with some background percussion. He is also a very good singer. All of the above is enough reason to attend and polish your own performances, but there are three serious bonuses : Both Ann and Geno just happen to also be very nice people to be around, and the fellow classmates are totally polite and supporting of whatever level of performance you do. The third bonus is that discussions of politics and religion are not part of the experience. The facility is a simple storefront place, 15 or so of us sit around a medium sized room with a piano on folding chairs and stools, it has a restroom, and has a nice sound setup with a microphone. We visit a bit as people show up, then to business. Ann directs us through some basic warmup exercises, do some ear training work, sing some group participation songs from the lyrics book they provide, and then each of us does a solo song at the microphone. The solo is optional, but you should take advantage of it in this safe and successful improvement atmosphere. Just try one of the many in their songbook, or if you already have one you want to start working on, bring sheet music to one you want to try. Or just ask Ann if she can already play what you hope for - she knows many ! I would recommend that you come join us sometime to see if we're the kind of people you want to share some time and your love of singing music with.

There is one talented teacher (Jett) that I worked with but everything runs through Bobby and his email. You can hardly do anything on the website. I was so frustrated with his antics and interference that I donated the 100 credit I had because he was so clueless and difficult to work with. Do you think he took the time to thank me? Of course he did not.

As accomplished, knowledgeable, and pleasant as she is, lessons with her are as instructive as they are entertaining. Often coming to her with a wealth of questions at the top of our weekly, far-too-short hour together ("time flies when you're ..."), she's never failed to answer each with depth and clarity. After this, as expected, we go through-or vacillate between lesson-to-lesson: technique; theory; ear-training; and our current piece of music. For said music, I've brought in to learn:   - video game tunes - the heaviest metal - 90s pop - hip-hop from high school - and far, far, far too difficult classical compositions (which she politely--but importantly--asked me to put aside for ... awhile)   All save for the last--and the last in time (we'll get to that Tchaikovsky one day, Darya!), she welcomed each with a smile.
