Just went here for Christmas shopping. Amazing experience. Such great quirky, unique items. They pack an enormous amount of little gifts into this store. I love this little gem on 4th St. in Long Beach! I came here looking for a couple of unique gifts for a few very different people, and walked away extremely happy. The workers were friendly and helpful. I loved the large selection of one-of-a-kind items. Dolly Parton candles, music boxes, unicorn keychains, and items specific to Long Beach. I always give local businesses a chance first when looking for gifts. I have yet to be disappointed. There are so many interesting items. I love this store and all their products. They have a rewards plan where you can collect points and get five dollars off once you've spent fifty dollars. I don't live in Long Beach, I live in Las Vegas, but they hooked me up with a card and confirmed that they would ship stuff to me, which is exciting. Their prices are really fair, especially when you get to buy the products and know that no one else will be wondering around with the super sweet gear you bought. The last item I purchased was a purse shaped as an old-phone and when I wore it out last night I got compliments all over the place. A few things I've picked up at Songbird: socks with pugs on them, woodland creature pencils, a funky flask, a sloth wallet. This place has everything you never knew you always wanted. And it's one of the best places to pick up a unique, unexpected gift. The shop seems small when you walk in, but there's a lot of stuff in here. And it's all super affordable. There's a nice selection of greeting cards in the back as well, to go right along with your super-cool gift you're about to give. Songbird's buyer is some kind of genius. Unlike most of the other 4th street shops, Songbird isn't bursting at the seams with stuff. (Not that I have a problem with those kinda shops, I love me some treasure hunting.) But, everything they do sell is absolute perfection. Seriously, any cute thing that I can imagine, Songbird has. A robot tissue holder? Check. Cute headbands with feathers of vintage brooches? Check. An amazing selection of handmade cards? Check. I just moved to the area a few months ago, and would pass The Songbird Boutique on my early morning walks to Portfolio Cafe, which is right across the street. I finally went in about a month ago wanting to purchase a beautiful ceramic box I had seen in the window. The box had been sold, but the owner really took great care of me, ordered another one, and had it ready within a week, really going above and beyond. It's easy to fall in love with the whole place. It's chock-full of great finds, you can spend a long time looking through the diverse and eclectic products that are artfully arranged around the store. The owner handpicks every item in the store and has GREAT taste--seriously! Without a doubt, every time I go in there I see something that I simply must have. It's a really good place to buy gifts-- I bought presents for both my boyfriend and my brother from this shop and they both LOVED them. The prices are affordable, especially considering the items are such high quality. If you are going to Retro Row, this shop is a must. Start with a coffee at Portfolio and then mosey on over. If you're walking down Retro Row, the first store you might pass is Songbird. You might not go in right away, but you'll probably do a double-take as you realize you just passed a store that has a variety of zombie toys, art, robots, and other quirky gifts. How can you not go in? I'm not going to lie - I usually purchase something every time I'm there. Some of their items are not that expensive and they make great gifts that I'm sure the receiver probably never thought they were ever going to get. But when they open, they can't help but laugh that they just received a zombie foot squeak toy or a gravy boat in the shape of the sinking Titanic. On this trip, I bought a pair of wind-up racers in the form of old ladies on walkers. You wind them up and watch them click across the table to a finish line of your choosing. I actually bought them for my grandma because I thought she would get a kick out of them. Again - I had no intention of buying anything when I walked in, but then I found a gift that I just couldn't leave without. There is a lot to see inside and the staff is not pushy at all. They say hello to you when you walk in and are always open to answering any questions. Songbird kind of reminds me of a little store I loved back home called Pandora, but with a more limited selection and fewer awesome girls working there. (Not that there are mean girls here. There are actually just fewer in number.) On a recent trip here I was able to pick up the following: Cupcake barrette Sushi magnets Elephant topped coffee spoons As you can see they have a collection of gifts as eclectic as my imagination so we are a good match, this store and I. This is such a cute store! I love the shoes & that they have lots of dresses for curvy girls (hourglass figure). There's cute knickknacks, Japanese themed items, Dia de Los Muertos themed items, other whimsical items (some may even be functional, not just knickknacks), jewelry, bags, and dog accessories. I also got a kick out of the shrunken/compressed (you know, add water & they expand into normal) boxers--the designs are pretty entertaining. There are live parakeets in a cage to go with the name of the store. The woman behind the counter was pleasant, helpful, but unobtrusive. I had found several dresses off the sale rack that I wanted to try on, & she mentioned that if I needed help getting zipped up, to holler. I ended up getting a va-va-voom red Marilyn halter dress on sale that I ended up wearing to graduation this past June. And I couldn't pass up on a pair of sandals on that visit either--but hey, even my friend's boyfriend complimented my sandals when I wore them. Such a fun and unique store... the only problem is ever time I go in there, I can't pick one thing, because I kind of want everything! They sell clothes, shoes, jewelry, cards, novelty stuff (moustache Bandaids, anyone?) It's the perfect place to find a fun gift for a friend or for yourself. And if you like something, buy it, don't hesitate, because it will sell out and you'll never see it again and you'll be sad. Trust me, I speak from experience. Songbird has cute stuff and it's a great place to shop for gifts. Nice dresses, adorable totes, little knick-knacks, etc. Some of the stuff they sell has problems with the quality, though. By the time I discover that, however, the receipt is long gone and they only accept store credit for returns anyway. Two recent issues were my purchase of an iPhone case that looked like a camera. Coolest iPhone case ever AND it only cost $8. In a few weeks, I discovered why it was only $8: it stretched out and wouldn't stay on my phone anymore. I had to toss it. And a few weeks ago, I got my brother the Port-A-Pint. He loved it, until it began to leak. On the second day of use, it cracked and broke in his hands. In the garbage that goes, too. I think I'll be a little more cautious with some of the purchases I make here - if it's something that's going to go through daily use, I'd steer clear. read more

As soon as this store opened I fell in love. There are a lot of stores on 4th street that are similar in what they sell. However, I've found Songbird is the best for gift shopping, decorating, clothing, jewelry, knick knacks, and a few surprises. I've taken my friends and family to check it out with the intention of buying them something from there at a later time. ;) The owner is always friendly and keeps a steady stock of exciting options. This place is worth visiting if you are in the market for a gift for your uber-cool bff or even a selfish pick me up. Gnomes, matryoshka (Russian nesting dolls), Lucha Libre, Cupcakes, if it's cute, odds are they have it. On my recent trip I bought a sheet of matryoshka stickers, and a Gnome tissue box cover. The owner lady was nice, and had a cute dog with her. I always attempt to remember birthdays of people I love, and purchase items that are handmade or original. This store is a destination! I'd been wanting to visit for so long after stumbling upon it on the early morning walks I started taking during COVID. Finally got in there recently, and it was even better than I thought it would be from peering through the windows. There are so many funky tchotchkes, cards, gifts and whimsical yet entirely practical items across various cultural genres that you are guaranteed to crack a smile. Hell, you'll probably LOL! It's basically entertaining to shop here. Personally, I think I combed through everything in-store at least twice because I had such a hard time deciding what to get. (Ultimately, I settled on a brightly striped acrylic-type bracelet for myself as my main purchase.) Songbird is seriously fun and the place to go when you are looking for something unique and quirky that you're just not going to find anywhere else. So i started off on the wrong foot by reviewing this store as Siren instead of Songbird; my mistake as i only know it for being the kitchy store off 4th and junipero... I have lived a few blocks down from this store, and have always browsed the window. they have cute stuff that catches my eye. but i never seem to pass by when the place is open.. but yesterday was different; i needed birthday presents fast. something unique, thoughtful, and items that my friends would want, but never buy themselves. that to me are the criteria of gift giving, and is exactly what i found at this store. the owner was very thoughtful and helpful, not pushy at all. i walked out there with all my gifts in under 30 minutes; which is a miracle considering my gift-shopping habits. i spent what i expected for good gifts, so i was very content. the items were not cheap, but not overpriced.. although, there was this wallet i would die for that i couldn't afford, but you could see WHY it was $100+.. handpainted, leather, and one of a kind. but if you think about it, that's how much one would pay for a marc jacob's wallet everyone and their mother has.. so purchasing the latter wallet becomes much more reasonable.. I will definately go here first once another birthday rolls around; or mine for that matter :) read more
