This store has been open for four months now (7/09) and I definitely think everyone should check it out who needs a gift, fun items or clothes. Such a lovely little oasis of quaint kitsch! You walk in and are immediately greeted by the friendly shopkeeper while a bird whistles sweetly in the background. As you walk around, you think "Hello Kitty bags/shoes/hair clips, how cute!", then "Sailor girl shirts, how sassy!", then "Zombie car decals, how.... morbid yet funny!", then "Cards that are impressively sexually blatant! YES!" This store has such an insane range of gift options, you can find something for your toddler niece, your sweet ol' gramma, and your gothic sex fiend gal pal all in the same place. The prices are nice, so you don't have to drop a pretty penny to find something for everyone. Score! read more

This is my favorite store on Retro Row and my go-to store for gifts for people because I can always find something here. The prices are very reasonable and they are really good about ordering new items. My biggest problem is not wanting to buy something for me when I go into the store. They also have a great selection of "cat" items, which is great for gifts for my feline enthusiasts. read more

Best boutique on 4th! I live around the corner and overtime i need an emergency gift for a friend, i stop here! it's great for unique little gifts to mail to friends and family out of state. If I could give Songbird 10 stars, I would. This is the best place to go when you need a cute gift for a friend or a new piece of jewelry or clothing for yourself. I've bought several dresses from Songbird, and always get great compliments on them. The fact that they carry larger sizes is delightful. From the great customer service to the constant influx of new items to the happily chirping birds (they're real!) on the counter, this shop just makes me happy. read more

I recently moved back to Long Beach from the San Fernando Valley to be near family, and I can't believe I never heard of this little gem of a store before. A few weeks ago a friend took me shopping on "Retro Row" on 4th Street and she saved this place for last, knowing I would love it and WOW! She was right. This store is jam packed with all kinds of quirky-to-edgy gifts, accessories, even some clothing and shoes. There is a lot of Frida Kahlo/Dia De Los Muertos stuff which is totally my jam, and the coolest assortment of socks. I got myself a pair with mermaids on them and my husband a pair with robots on them. I also bought some earrings with rockabilly type anchors. The lady working was so nice and even offered to gift wrap my items, I declined because they were not gifts but I really appreciate that the service is available. I'm writing this review because I have started planning my Christmas shopping list and this is the first place I thought of, and I realized it is important to support small and local businesses. I will definitely be heading to Songbird in the next week or two! read more

Songbird is always my first, and I'll be honest sometimes my last stop on retro row. I'm a Long Beach native so I'm a little bit jaded by the retro row thing but songbird always has something I think is TOO COOL.
