I just experienced possibly the worst customer service I've ever had. After spending a day at Carowinds, my family and I used the sonic app to order a late dinner. Spent almost $50, as we hadn't eaten since the afternoon. We arrived at Sonic and followed the instructions to alert staff we were in a stall waiting. Two minutes later, an older "gentleman" walked out with a receipt in his hand. He stated that due to short staffing, they had closed early, and our order had "just" popped up on their screen. He went out of his way to say that he had nothing to do with the app, and because of this, we would have to call and get a refund. I know this isn't true because when you search for locations on the app, other sonic restaurants show that mobile ordering is unavailable. So I'm guessing he just forgot to turn off the feature at this location, then made up an excuse to escape responsibility and accountability. He never apologized as a representative of sonic. He never offered any solution or consolation. He was flat in his tone and almost condescending. He had the worst attitude and demeanor of anyone I've ever encountered in the service industry. I could tell he'd had a rough day, but that is no reason to treat paying customers so poorly. I asked him to write on the receipt that we didn't receive our order so that I wouldn't have an issue getting a refund. He literally said "no, I don't write on receipts". I asked him his name, and he said "manager" as he walked away. My wife called after him because he still had the receipt in his hand, and he yelled that he was done with us and that he'd told us he couldn't help. We literally had to ask another associate to go inside and grab the receipt. read more

Food was decent. What you'd expect from a far food joint. Actually the bacon cheeseburger and Oreo shake were quite tasty, but I'm docking a star because I walked in (maybe my fault for doing this at a restaurant known for being a drive in) and found the experience very strange. Instead of ordering at a counter like a normal place, I sat alone in a separate room where I had to place my order through a greasy phone on the wall. I guess this is to simulate the drive in experience? It failed. Other than that, fine place. read more

What an experience. Let me 1st say the carhop was awesome!! I ordered a small lemon berry slush and received a lemonade. I told the carhop and she immediately went to get it fixed. Before I gave her the cup I marked the lid to see if it would be the same one. All the worker did was pour some of the lemonade out and spread a spoonful of strawberry on part of the drink to make me believe they fixed a new one. I know this is what was done because I have ordered this drink a million times and it has never looked like this before. The tater tots I ordered were Luke warm and tasted old. I wouldn't dare send my entire order back inside not knowing what I would get in return. I'm really disappointed in Sonic. I stopped coming to this Sonic due to bad service, ridiculous wait times and the food. I decided to give them another chance and the only thing that improved was the service that the carhop provided, everything else remained the same. read more

This has got to be the worst sonic in the country. Every single time I come here there is some sort of issue. Today when we tried to order, someone came on and said "we aren't taking orders right now." Immediately got off and did not say anything else or even give us a chance to ask a question. The service here's a lot better than it use to be. The food may take a little longer than I want sometimes, but its always hot and fresh.

This sonic I tell you I keep trying to give it a chance because it's near me but it keeps making it worst every time I come back. I love the food but hate hate hate the service I receive here. I give it two star because of the food but they don't get anymore Bc of the poor service. They constantly close like thirty mins early I feel? This has happen like a few times I've randomly tried to come thirty mins before they close. I get maybe ten but come on? And then they are still serving people...in the dark. Who does that? I get you wanna leave work but dang? I drive up 30 mins before y'all close and the drive thru lights and all lights off and you serving people in the dark lol. That's crazy to me. Also, have experienced being a customer while in the dark so maybe I should have known. The second to last time I was there with my boyfriend, they shut off the lights while we were still eating there were like several cars still there because closing time wasn't that close lmao. The last straw though and the fact I won't be back, will be because they messed up my charges for my order and tried to blame me. I placed my order on the drive up window, I used my card, it processed, therefore the food could be made. No I did not receive a receipt (maybe that was bad on my part) but I figured it was electronic. The guy comes out brings me the wrong order I told him no that's not mines, which is fine. He brings me right order, I get it, I start eating. He comes back says my card didn't work? He was like do you have a receipt? I was like no you didn't give me one? I figured it was just a mix up? Maybe? I gave my card for benefit of the doubt, he charged it. I figured maybe it didn't ring up? I didn't have no signal at sonic so I wasn't able to see if any purchases went though until later. I found out later I was charged twice, for two different amounts. Yeah. I won't be back. Maybe I'm just being extra but this place is just super lacking with organization and service. Just went there, had not been to a Sonic in awhile, now know why so many have closed. I ordered a double cheeseburger without onions with mayonnaise, had to try to order three different times, she would not listen. When my burger comes out, it is full of onions, no mayonnaise, and COVERED in mustard. They offered to make another burger but I did not want one at that point and am now feeling kind of nauseated from what I ate. read more

Just came back from there, and was pretty disappointed. The inside dining area was a wreck (dirty tables, food on the floor, table side order phones out of order, etc). They weren't particularly busy, and several employees were hanging around talking to one another. My food came out relatively quickly, but was not complete, and even after alerting them of this and waiting on them, I had to remind them five minutes later to give me my missing items, at which point they seemed even more confused. To top it off, the restroom was filthy and there were no paper towels, and I even saw an employee go in and use the restroom, and come out without remedying the situation...hope he at least washed his hands :/ Given the state of this place, I have to wonder. I want to like this place, but it scored an F on this visit. Fast food doesn't have to be messy, crummy, and lacking in service...just look at chick-fil-a. read more

Food was good. Service was decent. Had a receipt for my order that said I owed $8.39 for my meal which was fine. Checked my bank account as I was eating and the charge said I paid $10.07 for the same meal. This location seems to use card readers and cell phones. Buyer beware: use cash or go to jack in the box. I wish I could give this location zero stars. I came here on 4/13/19. I typically love Sonic-- I live out of state, so I made it a priority to come. I waited at a stall for over 25 minutes. I was nervous that the speaker was broken so I got out of my car and tried 2 other stalls. Then, they turned out the lights (15 minutes before closing). I was pretty frustrated that I waited so long for nothing. What a waste of time and such poor service. I was especially annoyed when I saw employees talking by the dumpster and leaving (at this point) 15 minutes early. read more

We stopped by around 9:45 on a Friday night (after leaving Carowinds) for a late dinner/snack. First, we got shooed out of the indoor dining room because it was past dining room hours. Fine, no actual problem. Then, when we ordered from the patio the waitress with our food didn't realize we'd already paid, nor did she have our drinks. I asked for ketchup to go with my tots; the waitress said sure, but never brought us any. Well, Sonic tots are good enough to eat without ketchup, right? Not in this case. My tots were half-raw and disintegrating in the cardboard sleeve. Five minutes or so later, the manager swung by and asked if we had everything; we told her we didn't have our drinks (and my daughter's kid's meal was missing its toy), and my tots were half-raw and falling apart. She said she'd take care of it right away. She did get the drinks out shortly, and my daughter's toy, but fifteen or twenty minutes later I still didn't have the tots (which was my only food, btw - I have some allergies that prevent me from eating a lot of Sonic's menu choices). Everyone else was pretty much done with their food (my son was dragging out his last onion rings so I wouldn't be eating alone, having finished his burger, as my husband and daughter had done as well.) No waiters or waitresses have come anywhere near us, and I'm debating with my husband whether we should press the order button and inquire, when the manager sticks her head out and asks whether we ever got those tots. I said "no," and she says she'll go check, and then a few minutes later she comes out and says they're having trouble with all the tots inside, they're all sticking together in the fryer. She asks if I'd like fries or mozzarella sticks instead. At this point it's been more than half an hour since we first placed our orders, it's past 10:00 pm, and my family still has a two-hour drive to get home. I explain that I can't have the mozzarella sticks because of my milk allergy, and I'm not in the mood for fries (I might have taken her up on the fries if she'd been on top of this twenty minutes earlier, but I'm thinking that if I say yes now, it'll mean another ten or fifteen minute delay.) So she says well, then all I can do is take them off your check, and I say that's fine. THEN she says, oh, but you paid with a credit card, I can't refund that without canceling the entire order, and starts to dither about it. My Mom Voice came out and I said, "Don't worry about it, it's not worth it." Frankly, I think that sums up my feelings about ever stopping at this Sonic (or maybe any others) again: it's not worth it. read more

I'm from the state that this chain originated in and it makes me sad to see this place so poorly ran. They don't carry any change on them so they have to go back inside. It's 11:30am on a rainy Tuesday and I order a route 44 diet coke with limes and a medium sweet tea. They are out of sweet tea and have to make more?? At 11:30am you've allowed yourself to run completely out of sweet tea and expect me to wait while you brew more? What kind of planning of a lunch establishment is that?? Who's running this place? Certainly not someone that understands how to properly stock for the lunch rush or how to make money from a fast food establishment. I love Sonic. When I was away from Charlotte I would go to a Sonic to help me get over my homesickness. Sonic off Arrowood Rd is awesome. I used to LOVE Sonic when I lived in NC, but since we moved to MD, there isn't one near me. I revisited my long lost love while in Charlotte on vacation and was somewhat dissapointed. I don't remember them microwaving their chili dogs and the tater-tots seemed very old.... The only reason I give it 3 stars is because the server was great. As a huge sonic fan this is by far the worst sonic I have ever been to. The service, seeing as how there wasn't many people there (wonder why), was slow. The credit card machine in my parking spot was broken. When I told the car hop she did not really seem to care. Once I got back home, which was across the street, my food was cold and very sloppily put together. I had a chili dog. Nothing crazy. The staple of sonic drive ins. By reading the other reviews, poor decision hindsight, this place is in desperate need of some new management. read more

This is the worst managed Sonic I've ever visited. There are only about 5 Sonic restaurants in the Charlotte region, and this is the only one close enough for me to visit. They almost never have onion rings in stock or even long straws for their tall cups. It seems like they could be smart enough to order enough supplies if they notice that they ALWAYS run out of some things, but for almost a year now the same thing happens. Last fall, Sonic ran specials on their BLTs, but, of course, they ran out of bacon. Way to think ahead, genius! I keep going back because I like Sonic's food, big drinks, and their ice, but it seems to be a bad experience every time now. I would like to use their app to order food, but every time I do, when I arrive, they are out of half of what I ordered and they try to give me something else instead. The wait times are always ridiculous. Hire some more people and order up more supplies, for crying out loud! read more

Their half price shakes aren't really half price! I have gone here several times for the half price shakes after 8pm. Every time I order the same thing and it is a different price pretty much every time, but never half price. I'm not sure why they claim to charge half price when it's more like you are paying 3/4 the price. I have asked the manager himself why I am being charged more than I should and he claimed that half price for $7.28 was $4.36 including tax. It should be $3.64 plus tax. Even if the tax was 10%, the most I should be paying is $4.00. I find it very frustrating to the point I wouldn't go back if it weren't for my kids because I know their math doesn't add up but they won't admit that they are overcharging me. The shakes themselves are pretty good but beware if you order chocolate because they add chocolate syrup to vanilla ice cream to make chocolate and sometimes it just looks like a slightly darker version of the vanilla. read more

This place's intercom system you couldn't tell if they got the order or not , and the menu is too small to read . Some people aren't prepared to drive over the concrete wall to get a good look at the menu. So we got the food the server was nice but the fries smelled and tasted like burnt grease and the Coney was tough and tasted weird. Maybe I should have ordered a straw instead. Upon leaving the lot my car bottomed out at the edge of the downward driveway. So my wife and I got out to see what the hell we ran over and it was a huge hole . Now surely they know that this is there , after all even if they walked to work they would have seen it, They could have put up caution cones or something to warn of the damaging crater that's there. I was willing to accept the food being bad and just forgot about it until I bottomed out in that crater of a pot hole. Sonic will never get the chance to serve me anything again.
