Sonic has some very good featured sandwiches, especially the Toasters. I really like online ordering.

We ordered a plate of fried jalapeños, the Rooster Booster burger (Natalie's way), and a veggie plate. Delicious home cooking. We are already talking about coming back for dinner!

I've lived and worked around Eustace, Texas for years, and I know most folks in this community…read more That's why it bothers me to speak up, but what I've seen over at The Roost just doesn't sit right. From what I've experienced, it seems like the place hires people who are already having a hard time finding work elsewhere. There's one waitress who, as I understand it, lost a previous job at a vet clinic after some issues with missing medication. These days, she'll sometimes show up with her own mix of what she calls a Bloody Mary--heavy on the vodka--and while she might offer it around, she mostly drinks it herself during her shift. She's married to a local police officer, and I've even seen him there in uniform helping bus tables. Another waitress is a local girl--friendly enough--but not very sharp, and she ends just about everything with a nervous little laugh that wears on you after a while. In the kitchen, things are worse. One of the cooks reportedly brings in liquor in the mornings, keeps it in the cooler by the register, and drinks from it throughout the day while working. I've also noticed basic cleanliness and food safety don't seem to be taken seriously. Hair shows up in food more often than it should, and when it's pointed out, it's sometimes just picked out by hand and tossed aside, no handwashing after. I've never personally seen staff washing their hands the way they should, and gloves and hairnets don't seem to be used. Food handling practices raise a lot of concerns--things like cheese and ingredients sitting out for hours, reused bowls without washing, and no clear labeling or dating on food. The equipment doesn't seem to be working right either. Freezers and refrigerators aren't holding proper temperatures, and instead of fixing them, it looks like staff are working around it with ice or just using the equipment anyway. I've heard of meat and seafood being served even when it didn't seem fresh. There are also bigger issues. The building doesn't appear to meet basic accessibility standards for folks with disabilities--parking, entrances, and restrooms included. Plumbing problems have reportedly backed up into the café area, and instead of shutting down to clean properly, the same mop used in the dining area was used to deal with it. Altogether, it paints a picture of a place that may not be taking health, safety, or basic standards seriously. I care about this town and the people in it, and I believe folks deserve to know what they might be walking into.

She was attentive, kind, and always paying attention to whether we needed anything without hovering. We started with the appetizer sampler and chose the fried pickles, okra, and green beans. Everything came out hot, fresh, and lightly breaded, which I really appreciated. Nothing felt greasy or overly heavy. Also, the sweet tea was actually sweet and delicious, not that sad "dark water" tea you sometimes get other places. We split the chicken fried chicken sandwich and an order of 8 honey BBQ wings. Both came out at the same time, and honestly, we probably could have chosen just one because the portions were huge. For the price point, that was a big plus. Everything I saw on the menu looked reasonably priced and fair for today's economy, no price gouging. The chicken fried chicken was cooked perfectly. The breading was light, the outside was crispy, and the chicken was still juicy. The wings were fried naked and crispy before the sauce was added, which I loved. My only tiny nitpick would be that there was a little more sauce than I personally prefer. I would have liked the option to add more sauce if needed, since you can always add more but can't take it off once it's on. Overall, this was such a good experience. Great service, fresh food, big portions, fair prices, and a true local restaurant feel. I'm so glad we chose this place and will definitely be sending people this way!

There was some good reviews both on Yelp and Google - not many but enough. We decided to give it a shot. We called the number associated with the place and the lady said they didn't serve burgers.. say what?? Red flag #1. Then changed her tune and said they only take online orders. Okay... so we placed an order online. It asks you to customize each burger - Mayo, mustard, onions, tomatoes, etc. The total ended up being like ~$65+ for 5 burgers and fries! A little pricey but whatever if they're good. We arrived to the Dickey's and apparently they're just a part of Dickey's BBQ. They didn't have the order ready when we got there.. they didn't even start making them yet! The staff looked like they didn't want to make the burgers at all! Then we were given soggy fries, burgers that looked like they came from frozen patties (who knows how long they've been frozen for), and the condiments/tomatoes/lettuce, etc were given separately all in a box! They had you customize it on the online order and couldn't even bother to put the sandwiches together! Not to mention they didn't give enough tomatoes for more than a slice for each burger.. and it was shredded lettuce (the stuff you buy in at grocery store in the bag). The burgers tasted horrible - quality was worse than Whataburger and McDonalds. Do yourself a favor and just order from the fast food chains.. you'll probably get better burgers for half the price!
