First Off not even 9:30 when I pull up to the stall push button and a lil 10-15 min period passes by before they announce stalls are closed. Make a sign or something, I saw plenty of people leave because of that after being told stalls are closed. Post only gets one star because the drinks still good but damn 45+ min and the line was still in the loop. I'm from SJ so when I drive back Into town from LA I make a stop. Clearly can see they have a bad mix of too much young and not enough of balance of these young kids. Finally getting to the window you can see the issue, one short boy on his iphone on speaker carrying out a convo while trying to finish putting lids on drinks. Took forever at the drive thru, and when I finally got to the window they got my whole order wrong, then when I went to let them know they took forever to assist me and my family who had been traveling from out of town. I lived in the South for more than 10 years and adore Sonic. This was my first... and last... visit to this Sonic. After waiting 20 minutes in a stall at this Sonic after we hit the button, with my kids fussing in the back, we gave up and went to the drive-thru. They let one car order in the 10 minutes we say there (that may not have happened... he may have given up and left too. We couldn't tell and never saw food handed to him). We played a game of watching how long other cars would wait before driving away without service. Meanwhile, my father walked to the nearby Subway, got his dinner, walked back and ate it. Food didn't taste good. Specialty drinks didn't taste good. Even their ice cream blizzards or whatever they're called were a let down. Place even gave me the runs & a super huge stomach ache. Been to this place a when it first opened, just went back again on Monday and what a dump. The food was alright, the low rating is based on the place and the knowledge of the server. This place is run down. There's no girls on roller skates, the majority of the order screens didn't work had to get off and order from the middle island and only one side worked except when trying to pay the display wasn't working. The lone server wasn't to familiar with want was going on with the menu. I asked about the half price happy hour specials, he said happy hour was over it ended at 4:00 pm. I had to tell him it was only 2:30 pm. The stench from the garage cans was too much to handle it was obvious the cans had rarely been cleaned as was the concrete. The majority of the neon lights were broken and the whole place was in dire need of a paint job. Didn't bother using the bathroom I could only imagine what condition it would be in, so went to the Tractor Supply store near by to use there's. You'd think Sonic as a multi-dollar corporation would keep their restaurant in much better shape, in this case and restaurant they let the place turn into a dump. I don't think I'll be going back to this place until they fix, paint and clean it up. read more

First time trying a Sonic today. Decided to eat at their outdoor tables. Had good service from some caring employees.

Expect this location to be out of food when you arrive. My first attempt on a Sunday evening, their milkshake machine was "down". My second attempt, on a different day, they had run out of chicken strips, had no plain tea, only sweetened. My cheeseburger had no cheese and when I drove back around to complain that my order was "wrong" a server said, yeah that's because we ran out of cheese." Apparently they had run out of napkins too, because those were no where to be found. The actual hamburger and milkshake I ordered were just ok, nothing special. Tater tots were mushy. Don't waste your time. This place is over rated. read more

I've seen Sonics commercials on TV for like 10+ years now, so recently I caved and decided to try it with some friends while shopping at Gilroy Outlets. We ordered $50 worth of food for 4 people, and none of us felt very full or happy with what we ordered. Burgers tasted dry and the only flavor came from the cheese. Tater tots weren't consistent; some were crispy and others were soggy and sad. The "real fruit" smoothies were basically snow cones that had mini fruit bits in them and tasted hella artificial. None of us would recommend Sonics. At best it's the type of place your friend might suggest and you'd go "eh sure" instead of "YO IM DOWN". If you're shopping at the outlets too, there's an In-N-Out and McDonald's there that are better tasting, cheaper, and also much closer. But c'mon Sonics. How are you gonna let McDonald's have cheaper food that also tastes better. Like what are YALL DOIN? 1 Star for food based on value, taste and quantity. But 2 stars because our server was dope on those skates. read more

This place is good for a quick slushy or shake. The last few times tho haven't been as great. We just went. And sat at the drive thru for about 10 minutes before pulling up to the window. We pulled up and looks like they were just sitting there. The girl walks up "can I help you?" We told her we were there for a good 10 min. We got our eventual order. Came here last night, clearly the employees felt it more necessary to have their music blasting while taking orders, why should I have to yell my order out just for them to hear it. As soon as I approached the window, it was obvious the employees were careless and rude as they had an attitude with me for no reason. The music was still blasting and all I was asking for was napkins. I shouldn't have to honk the horn after sayijng "Excuse me" multiple times only to catch their attention. Sonic has great food but as of lately the service has been the absolute worst. Last weekend we sat in a stall for 5 minutes before they told us it was drive through only. And the line wrapped around the entire building. Then yesterday it wasn't very busy when we got there at 730 at night. Yet I was 2nd in line for 20 minutes! When I got to the window I had learned they shut off the head set, so it was like dead air for that entire time. I get it, stuff happens, but there was no apologies or no empathy shown at all!!! Very horrible service. For my family and I sonic is a treat since we live 25 miles away. So it's heartbreaking to me that twice in a week they have let us down. read more

This was the worst experience at Sonic Burger I've ever had. This used to be the one we always went to. We drove all the way from San Jose to eat here for dinner tonight. We ordered 2 bacon Texas toast sandwiches, a chicken sandwich and footlong coney. We also ordered a grape slush. So disappointing. The guy who took our order (heavy set young man with long curly hair pulled into a pony tail) sounded like he could care less. I asked for no tomato, lettuce or pickles on one of the Texas toast sandwiches. He said it didn't come with pickles and asked if i wanted it added. I said no. It looked like there were pickles in the picture. I asked not for tomato or lettuce on the #10 chicken sandwich. He said it didn't come with tomato even though the photo on the menu clearly shows tomato on the sandwich. He sounded a little rude. When he came out with our food, he brought us a cherry slush. I told him it was supposed to be a grape slush. He came back with a slush that was still almost all just white ice with a small swirl of grape flavoring around the edge. My husband asked me to take it back and ask them to make a new one. I asked if they could they could make a new one since this was not blended and was still mostly ice. The girl who came to the door said you have to stir it yourself. I couldn't mix it if I tried. A flimsy straw was not sturdy enough to blend the frozen drink. I said, I've been here plenty of times before. We've never had to stir our own slushes before. She tried to say it's the way the machine is. Even the cherry one the guy brought out by mistake looked perfectly mixed. It was at least all the way red at the top. She then offered to use their ice cream mixer to mix it for us. The promised to wash it off first. I said okay. She brought it back. My husband tried it and said it tasted watered down. We started to eat our food. The burger patties were overcooked and dry. They looked and tasted like they were cooked the day before. The onion ring that came with the burger was not even layered correctly and was completely smashed and soggy in the melted cheese. They didn't give us a receipt. They didn't even wear name tags so you could comment about them. I am so disappointed. If I could give 0 stars or a half star, I would. I would never recommend this Sonic Burger. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Drive through at 8:50pm on a Sunday was atrocious! Was on my way back to San Jose after a long drive and thought to myself, "man I haven't had sonic in forever...and I slush sounds bomb". Decided to stop by and hit up the drive thru real quick, wrong! Worst decision ever. I was stuck in the drive thru line for MORE than 30 minutes!!! At this point I felt dumb for waiting just for a drink so I decided to get some onion rings and popcorn chicken along with a blue coconut slush. Got to the window and not even so much as a sorry for the wait or anything just, "$10" . I handed my card and the door shut. The girl at the window chatted up another girl who was twirling her hair. A guy in the back was standing around and another one leaning on a mop talking to him. No wonder it's so slow the employees were just standing around. To top it off the rings were over cooked and not edible and the popcorn chicken was nast. The slush was ok but not worst that wait or service. Never again read more

I've been to this location a few times before and the latest experience was not up to par. In the past, I've come here during the late afternoon to order their chili cheese tater tots and both times, I've had a fairly good experience! The ordering system from the several car hops was quick and efficient; allowing you to order, pay, and eat all in the comfort of your car! However, this time, my friend and I were in the mood for a cheap late night snack and chose Sonics because it had been a long time since we've been. We arrived at around 10PM and had to order from the drive-thru as the car hops close after sunset. The customer service was no different from previous visits. But the food was drastically different. My friend and I ordered the tater tots, onion rings, and fries. Although bearable, the tater tots and fries were so stale that it tasted like they had been left out for days. However, I did not like the onion rings at all. I was honestly shocked by the quality of the food i received because I have had much better quality from this same location. My theory is that it was too late at night and the food served had been sitting there all day, but who knows what really happened. I'm not all that sure that I'd come back. But my tip for anyone wanting to try their food is to come before sunset. read more

I've always heard people talking about this chain which setup looks like a scene in the classic movies. People parking their car, ordering their food and have it delivered to the car by roller skating waiter. However, Don't come here if you don't plan to eat in your car or do a take out. We came here after cherry picking at the Borello family farm and we didn't want the kids to make a mess eating in the car so we opted to dine there. They have a couple of round tables that fit 4 adults+4 kids perfectly. The area is also shaded. However, you have to order through some speakerphone and there's only 1 for the whole dine in area. The person who's taking orders seems to have hard time listening. I saw that she got our order wrong on the screen, told her about it, she came out but no fix until the order came out. The payment option is kinda interesting too. You can pay right after you order in the machine. I think you can pay with app? (but can't order from app). Or you can wait for your food to be out and just pay the waiter. We ordered the bacon double cheeseburger and the chicken burger + the combo chicken fingers/tater tots/onion ring (singular! Coz there's only 1 piece). The tater tots are very good. Onion ring is meh. Fries that comes with combo is very small portion. The strawberry limeade is soda based and just already. Kiddos like the grape slurpees kind of drink but apparently grape flavor is extra charge and the cashier didn't elaborate on that. They have some thing like the mcD mcFlurries. I ordered the oreos sonic blast. Medium size is definitely too much. Will suggest kids size instead. read more

Great experience. First I read Yelp reviews and based on these I had set myself up for a bad experience. Turned out after setting low expectations, that it was one of the best experiences and reminded me of my childhood days at Sonic. We used the App, which I highly recommend as it was Saturday around 1:00 pm and totally crowed. We had chili cheese dogs, fries and shakes. Everything was fresh, hot and we even received all condiments. The service was great and the carhops were friendly. The only downside, but not enough for a lower rating was no roller skates and no leaving tray on window. This was a childhood moment. read more

My husband and I have somewhat (but not really) jokingly named this location "the worst Sonic in America". The only time I'd ever recommend someone to go here is if I really despised them, because otherwise that'd just be mean. It's literally always something with this place. We're originally from the midwest where there's a Sonic in every town, so the only reason I've given it so many chances is because it's familiar and tastes like home. Thankfully, after reading other reviews, I'm glad to know it's not just me who loves to hate this place. The only thing you can count on them for is to get your order wrong. Any deviation from the way an item is listed on the menu is met with total confusion; even something simple like, "no onions, please". Once time I sat at the drive thru speaker for 10 minutes with no answer, no "be with you in a minute", nothing; I assumed it was broken, so I pulled up to the window. I tried to explain but before I could get anything out, the girl cut me off with a lovely, "so what'd you want?" Several other visits I have pulled up to the stall, pressed the order button, and have been met with a curt, "DRIVE THRU ONLY." Once, I ordered an item with no issues, then ordered the same item again a day or two later and was told they didn't have that item and never have. It's truly laughable. We've stopped going - it only makes me miss Oklahoma more, lol. read more

Usually have a pretty decent experience. However tonight I was less than pleased with the ice to fluid ratio. As you can see in my picture The cup had more ice then soda. Additionally they messed up on our entire order. We asked for no mustard they put mustard we asked for no pickle they put pickle. We asked for berry lemonade that they give us a regular lemonade. My wife and I stopped at this location on our way home. We were excited to get food as we have enjoyed other locations (Vacaville/Oroville) but could not purchase food due to the condition of the restroom at the Gilroy location. Both the men's and women's restrooms were in such a disgusting state that we left. The entryway that shares access to the kitchen was sticky on every surface, covered in grafitti and obviously not thoroughly cleaned in months if not years. The restrooms themselves had blood stains on the walls (women's), human waste on the floors. There is no possible way an employee can use these facilities and return to work clean (even if washing their hands they would have to touch filthy sink and soap handles). This shows a lack of commitment to cleanliness and if a Health Inspector were to view it I can't imagine how the facility could stay open for business. How could a manager allow this? I have worked in food service and this is unacceptable. read more

We always stop here for drinks when we pass by on our way to Southern California. Thank goodness it's usually happy hour when we drive through because the food and drinks are nothing to write home about it's just the most convenient. They are pretty slow so also have to consider that into your time if you stop here. read more

If I could give this dump zero stars , I would . We have given this sonic several chances on different occasions . They have disappointed us time after time . They have either taken too long or given us the wrong order when we specifically confirmed our order . This last time was the last straw , we arrived and drove into stall 21 and ordered , took the employee 15 minutes to take our order . After 30 more minutes or waiting , everyone around us , keep in mind they arrived after we did , all got their orders . After 50 minutes we left with no food , cause they still hadn't brought out our order . This place either needs to close or get employees that can actually work instead of teenagers that don't know what they are doing . We will not be eating here anymore , I hope they go out of business soon. read more

Came here a couple of times and was not impressed at all. The first time we decided to come here we were on the way to the central valley and wanted to get something to eat for the trip, but as we parked in on of the stalls, it took somebody a very long time to even respond to our call box, to the point I was ready to back out and leave. We ordered our food, burgers, fries and drinks. Well the fries were cold and the burgers were tasteless. The positive I can say was the drinks, I have a milkshake while my friend has a slushy, both were very good. We would have to say our experience the second time we came here was much better, but honestly the only reason we came here was for the drinks, we did not order any food. We had to wait but not as long as we did the first time, which was a positive. We did enjoy this trip, but like I said we only came here for drinks, so if you are looking for a quick stop with drinks only, yes this is your place. read more

I've been holding on to this one for a couple of weeks now and what more fitting for my 100th review than Sonic!!?? We've all seen the commercials for Sonic as they taunt us with their slushees and tater tots---and then pause to think, where is the closest Sonic for us to fulfill this craving? For the many of us in the South Bay, that used to be Tracy. And although gas prices are a bit down these days, I could never justify that far of a trek for fast food. But one glorious day, I get a message from a fellow Yelper telling me that they were opening one in Gilroy! Yipppeee!!! So, as a treat after some very successful holiday shopping at the outlets, the BF and I cruise over to finally have some Sonic goodness. (Note to you all: this Sonic is not at the Gilroy Premium Outlets exit but off of the 152 East exit--towards the road to LA). We pulled up to the "classic" intercom and place our order. The system was pretty efficient though it isn't clear if the "card sliding system" is just for the Sonic card or if you can use debit/credit cards with it too. Our delivery gal rolls up (literally "rolls" since she's on skates) to our car with our tray of Sonic yummy-ness. Jalapeno Bacon Burger, Coney Dog, tater tots and limeade slushees. Mmmm-hmmm... Did it hit the spot? UH-HUH! Was it tasty? HECK YEAH! Did I have remorse from eating all of that grease? Um, little bit...but we got over it. Guess I know where I'm stopping on my drive up back from LA this weekend. Granted 4 stars may be a bit high but I think I'm still reveling in the fact that this location is so much closer to us. For now, I say our food was Sonic-riffic!!! :) ps. Everyday from 2-4pm they have a "Happy Hour". 1/2 off of their drinks and slushees. read more
